The Canon EOS Rebel T2i Digital SLR Camera (Body Only) incorporates a number of advanced pro DSLR features in a compact, and very affordable camera body. Driven by a DIGIC 4 image processor, the T2i contains a high-resolution 18.0 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, and can capture JPEGs, RAW (14-bit, Canon original), or RAW+JPEG stills at burst rates of up to 3.7 frames-per-second. The EOS Reel T2i can also capture Full 1080p HD video with monaural sound, or stereo sound when using (optional) 3.5mm external microphones.
In addition to the camera's bright eye-level optical reflex viewfinder, the Rebel T2i also features Advanced Live View (with dedicated Live view/Movie button) for composing and editing your stills and video using the T2i's 3.0" Clear View LCD, which contains a whopping 1.04 million dots of resolving power.
Additional image enhancing tools include Auto Lighting Optimizer and Highlight Tone, which further improve detail in the highlight, mid-tone, and shadow areas in both stills and videos. As you'd expect there's also a 3-point Dust Deletion System and the option of shooting in either sRGB or Adobe RGB.
Videophiles will appreciate the Rebel T2i's Improved EOS Movie mode that allows for full manual exposure control, expanded recording 1920 x 1080 (Full HD), 30p (29.97) / 24p (23.976) / 25p, 1280 x 720 (HD), 60p (59.94) / 50p, 640 x 480 (SD), 60p (59.94) / 50p), Movie Crop recording in 640 x 480, and an external microphone IN terminal for improved sound quality.
An enhanced 63-zone dual-layer metering system and a 9-point AF system featuring a precision f/2.8 cross-type center point enable rapid focusing and accurate exposures. For low-light shooting, the Rebel T2i features an ISO range of 100-6400, which can be expanded to an equivalent of 12800 when necessary, and there's a Quick Control Screen that enables easy access to frequently used settings.
The Canon EOS Rebel T2i records imagery onto a choice of SD memory card, SDHC memory card, or SDXC Memory Cards and powers off an LP-E8 lithium-ion battery, which is good for up to 550 still exposures or 1 hour and 40 minutes of video recording. The EOS Rebel T2i is compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S optics.
The Canon DIGIC 4 Image Processor dramatically speeds up the entire EOS Rebel T2i's camera operations for intuitive operation and offers improvements in both fine detail and natural color reproduction. It works in concert with the EOS Rebel T2i's CMOS Image Sensor to achieve phenomenal levels of performance in nearly any situation.

This is TECHNICALLY, a rebel in size, shape, composition, etc., but don't let that fool you. The T2i is a wonderful piece of D-SLR equipment, either as a backup to a more professional camera (7D, 1D series, etc.) or as a first D-SLR for someone who either came from point and shoots, or from Film SLRs (I'm the latter). However, when I saw my first photos from Central Park, I was blown away by not only the resolving power of the camera, but also the quality of pictures even at 1600 ISO speeds, with 3200 being completely usable. There isn't much noise at these two levels; levels that were pro-territory just 3 years ago, and that will be a great surprise to those coming from small-sensor point and shoots, where such high ISOs result in noise.
As this is a camera that can shoot at 18MP JPG and do basic RAW (18MP), this is not a camera that will suffer low capacity or low-speed SD cards. To really get the best out fo it, a quality (ie: sandisk extreme class 6 or higher, or hoodman class 6 or higher) card would serve the camera well for functions such as 1080p recording, or for those times one wants a very long burst of photos. JPGs in Large / Fine are 5 to 8 MB each, and RAW Files are 25MB and up. You get a LOT of detail from this camera, and 11 x 17 shots at 300dpi are a reality. The Buffer is small relative to the 18MP / shot and 3.7 fps the camera is capable of... thus making a fast card all the more important. (NB: This camera IS compatible with upcoming SDXC cards, so it will be able to hit MUCH higher write speeds in the future)
A note of warning: the "kit" lens (i got mine separate) of 18-55 does not do this camera justice; there is just so much sensor resolution that it's not a bad idea to invest in the 18-135, or if finances permit, the 17-55 f/2.8 or the 24-70 f/2.8 L USM. Be forewarned, the sensor has a 1.6x crop, so any EF lens you put on needs to be multiplied by 1.6 (ie: 50mm lens on a full-frame = 80mm on this camera). You won't lose f-stops though in the crop, so it will still be the marked f-stop on the lens.
Nothing bad to report, loving this camera, looking forward to procuring more lenses for what is a baby 7D (it even has the DIGIC 4 processor!)

I really wanted to like this camera. It takes wonderful photos. However, certain issues were dealbreakers for me. First, I got the "oil-flinged-from-the-mirror-to-the-sensor" problem. Canon officially acknowledged this problem for their top models. Also, the manual indicates it can happen on rare occasions. I'm not happy about that. Second, there's the overheating issue and it's annoying red icon in the screen. Probably, not a problem if you limit the use of Live View and the Video features. Live View isn't useful if I can't use it for extended periods of time for the kind of work I do. Perhaps I'm being too harsh but I'm comparing the T2i with my old Canon, which is trully a workhorse camera: works nonstop for hours without overheating issues or other problems. I wouldn't mind some sort of cooling system grip even if it makes the T2i bulkier or requires more batteries. Finally, the T2i body feels fragile. The battery door looks really flimsy. There's the possibility of digital pellix cameras coming out soon which would mean less moving/mechanical parts and perhaps a more reliable Live View. I might wait for that.

I use this body primarily for wild bird and animal shots, it takes great pictures and in my opinion is an excellent value. Also, it works well with all the Canon auto focus lenses I have purchased since 1986.

In the fast changing digital world this older technology is still a great value. The movable screen on the 3Ti seemed a little vulnerable. This is too much of an investment in the short interval to better technology or when my use requires a better body ( One rebel ago I had a 20D which I loved until it got fungus on sensor when I lived in tropics)

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel T2i Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):
After traveling for nearly seven months through South America with only my Canon Powershot 200 IS, I decided to upgrade my gear before starting my trip through South East Asia. The T2i will be my primary camera during this trip and afterwards.
The learning curve on this camera is very small. Thankfully I was already relying on Manual mode shooting on my Powershot before purchasing this DSLR, so I was already familiar with the basic setup. After navigating through the main screen everything else is a cinch.
So far I don't think I am an advanced enough user such that the camera is limiting my capacity to do anything that I want. I'm sure in due time I will hit a wall, but that is definitely not the case yet.

I love this camera! It is so easy I use it everyday, the nice thing about this one is that you get professional photos without actually having to be a professional photographer, and trust me if youve got kids, family, pets etc. you'll want to have this good quality high durability camera by your side at all times!!! Then you too can be getting high quality photos, but seriously don't be surprised when you go down to pick up your prints and they ask you for a release form!! Its that good!

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel T2i Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):
I have been working with Canons and researching them for a while now and the biggest thing I found out while trying to decide which Canon to buy was the Canon EOS T2i vs Canon EOS 7D argument. Well The T2i is the best as far as price. The 7d has a better build but the picture quality is better on the T2i just barley (not enough to tell the difference buy looking at a photo side by side) The 7D has more FPS (Frames per second) then the T2i. The T2i has a brighter screen and better resolution then the 7D. In a nut shell if your are set on FPS and a weatherproof body then the 7D would be your go to camera but both camera's are great for HD video shooting so for anyone that's interested in film, music videos, documentaries then the T2i is a great camera to have. The T2i and 7D both get hot after filming for 45 minutes straight in 720p or 1080p but still not a huge deal for me at least, the main reason I say choose the T2i over the 7D is the fact that they have the same Censor in them so why spend $1500+ for the same camera ?

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel T2i Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):
I bought this as a second body to use along with my 50d. So far I'm quite pleased with the image quality. I use L lenses so that's a big part of it, but even with a Sigma 150-500 they are sharp and clear. So far I've only played with the video, but I'm looking forward to exploring more while on vacation this summer.

Comments about Canon EOS Rebel T2i Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):
Camera has many of the features of the larger 7D, although without additional firmware is not nearly as customizable.
Although not as durably built as 1/5/7D cameras, this is MUCH smaller and lighter, which has its advantages.
The scroll wheel from the upper level cameras is missed, but once you learn the button combos to get the same effects, it's not so bad.
Great for use with small lenses and a small rig for handheld footage, fitting into tight shooting locations (cars, etc.).
If Canon made this camera with a full frame sensor instead of APS-C, I think the 5D would be in real trouble. Compares very well with 7D and has some distinct advantages with lighter weight and smaller size, although many fewer options with customized ISO/WB etc.
Overall, great value for the price.

Simply put...buy at T2i!
Everyone thinks the latest and greatest is what you need, but really this is the same as the T3i with the exception for the LCD (T3i flips out).
To upgrade to a better model in the Canon line, you have to go up $300 to start seeing minimal improvements (not on the sensor or noticeable quality differences) but rather in frames per second. To get a noticeably better camera in build and quality pics you have to spend around $2000 or more.
Get this model (w/out the standard 18-55mm lens) and use that money to get a better lens that will fit your needs.

I use this camera for video and am very pleased with the image quality and control you get with this dslr. From what I gathered from my research is that ths camera has the same sensor as the 7d and the quality of the video footage is Identicle to that of the 7d. If you are just looking to do video then save yourself the $ and get this camera and spend the savings on a lens.I use a sigma 30mm 1.4 lens, great fast lense for video for those shallow DOF shots.
