This Di lens is currently the most compact and lightest in the history of fast zoom lenses. Its compactness makes it look and feel like an ordinary standard zoom lens, yet provides the versatility that a fast constant maximum aperture offers and will definitely reshape photographic horizons.
Features like LD glass elements and Internal Focusing put this lens in the same category of professional lenses as much bigger and more expensive Tamron lenses.

So I'm moving up from 28-135 IS USM, which I'd put as as top-end "tier 1" lens (where the kit lenses live) or entry level "tier 2" where you first encounter the USM lenses but well below the "L" series lenses. I'd put the Tamron way high in "Tier 2". While it doesn't have the IS or USM, the image quality of this lens, along with 2.8 thru the entire focal range, are just so impressive. I've never owned a 24-70L, but based on what I've seen this lens do, it's photos rival what I've seen online when it's being compared to a 24-70L, so I have no reason to not believe the rave reviews/comparisons on IQ - it's really good. I've shot f/2.8 vs f/4 and the f/4 shots are a tad sharper, but the 2.8 shots are very impressive. Back to the 28-135 - it's a huge difference zooming in to say - 70mm and having the tamron stay at 2.8, but the 28-135 can only manage an f/4.5. The resulting image differences are massive!
The USM focus of the 28-135 is faster and quieter than the Tamron, but we're talking degrees of separation. I personally have no issues with how loud it is or how quick the autofocus is - it's fast enough for me. I'm sure there are some venues where this would concern a pro - i'm not there yet :-)
weight-wise it feels about the same as the 28-135. The 28-135 has a loose end and constantly extends out when pointed down (common behavior, not just my lens). The tamron does not exhibit this behavior, which is nice.
The only weird thing on this lens is getting used to the zoom ring going the opposite direction of canon lenses - i'm constantly getting that wrong :-)
If you're looking for professional-level image quality in a great walk around lens that won't break the bank - this is your lens!
attached is a single image shot with the tamron and a single off camera flash.

I bought this lens because of the price and focal range. I am shooting with a Canon EOS 5D. I only have experience with EF mount lenses so this review may not be helpful for nikon users.
I would have preferred to buy the Canon 24-70 f/2.8L lens, but the Tamron is less than half the cost.
Most reviews say this lens has good center sharpness but is a bit softer in the corners. I found this to be true. Other reviews called this lens soft on the wide end, and I have also found this to be true as well. The above problems are balanced out, however, by very good sharpness at 40mm and above. The lens handles colors very well, with little or no chromatic aberration and no there is no significant barrel distortion to speak of.
In short, this is a good general use lens. It is not as nice as the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L lens, but it is good for the price. If you are looking for a good wide angle lens for shooting high quality landscapes, I would probably invest in the Canon 16-35mm L lens. However, for general all around use this is a good lens for the price.

Comments about Tamron Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I purchased this lens for portrait and some event and concert photography. The 2.8 comes in handy for all situations. And the zoom range suits both situations as well (albeit more so the portraiture side).

Comments about Tamron Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
After having used the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 and the Canon 24-105 f/4 lenses, this Tamron seems a little rough around the edges (not literally). That being said, if you are looking for a reasonably priced mid-range zoom, you can't go wrong with this lens. In the image quality department it easily stands up to the afore mentioned lenses and even though the AF is a bit noisy, it works great. If you can keep it in the f/4-f/11 range, this lens will produce very high quality images and it has quite good close-up performance as well.

It is honestly the best value lens out there. The price is relatively affordable for the quality. Great for "everyday" use.

Was so excited to get this lens but after using it for a day I was SOOOO dissapointed! Basically every picture was soft, dull and grainy. It didn't matter what apature setting I used, ISO, etc. Every picture looked like I used a camera phone. My kit lens took better pics then this lens. I returned it and am awaiting a refund.

I needed an intermidiate range lens. A 24-70 would have been best but it's twice as much also.
Overall sharpness is comparable to my 70-200L. Manual focus is smooth. I noticed, albeit just recently, that the zoom function is a bit stiff. It has a very plastic feel. The lens sometimes slide in or out when making sudden upwards or downwards action.

This is a very sharp lens. It also produces great color. I use it primarily for portrait, wedding and nature work. Yes, the motor is not as fast as its two major competitors. However, for my purposes, speed is not an issue in the first place.
I like this lens so much that I purchased a second copy after the first was stolen.
If you are on a budget (who isn't?), then, you get more "bang for your buck" with this lens.

I picked this up at the end of February and promptly took it with me to New York City on a weekend trip. The pictures came out great. I mostly just took scenery shots both in Central Park and at the Empire State Building and am impressed.

I've only had this lens for a couple of weeks, but I can already see that it will be one of my favorites. I find it to be a very nice all around lens. Other's have called it a nice "walk-about" lens, which is fitting. It doesn't autofocus well in low light, but I knew that before buying.

I use the product in mainly portraits. I love the clarity although the canon L series is better. But for the price, you get great quality. I love the lock switch when not using the lens which helps to keep the zoom stiff and steady. Great build, it feels sturdy and secure. Overall a great lens and great quality pictures.

Comments about Tamron Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
Had high hopes for this lens but I thought the zoom took a lot of effort to reach 75mm. I have used the Canon 18-55mm 2.8 (rented) and the Canon 18-135 and am able to reach the entire zoom range with one twist were as with this lens I had to twist a few times (it seems). Plus it was stiff. Anyhow, I returned it since I basically could achieve the the same focal range by taking a few extra steps with my 30mm prime lens and could shoot at bigger apertures. Maybe if Tamron would make a 24-105 or so it would be worth it.

Pros: Compact, sharp, quite focusing - overall a great lens.
Cons: The only negative I can say about this lens is that it is a little too compact for weddings, etc. I am not an equipment snob but people do want to see a lens "that means business". This lens takes sharp photos and is lightweight for walking around, just wish the lens looked a little more muscular for those paid gigs.
