I was looking for a wide angle lens and like everyone else, started searching reviews on the web. The Tokina got consistent positive reviews for being sharp, and for the fast aperture. The Sigma 10-20 and the Canon 10-22 were the other choices. I have other "fast lenses" and appreciate the advantage in low light and/or no flash conditions. In the end I felt that a faster lens would be better for me than the extra zoom range. Just got the lens today. All I can say is wow! The images at f2.8 are very sharp. Better than expected. Stopped down outside the images were even more crisp. The wide field of view is incredible. You get everything in. Close focus lets you get some cool foreground/background shots that you cannot get without a wide angle. Less than Canon and comes with a hood. If you are on the fence about which lens to buy, this is it. I kept checking daily for weeks until I found it in stock. It was out in hours. The demand for this lens is great for a reason. B&H had the best price and was the only one that had it in stock. [...]

When I bought an f/2.8 "pro" lens, I expected it to be usable wide open. I was very disappointed to find my copy of this lens was unsuitable to achieve professional results when used wide open. At f/2.8 it was sharp enough at the center, but consistently too soft around the edges. The lens did much better when stopped down to f/5.6. Perhaps I just didn't receive a very good copy.
If I have to stop down the Tokina to f/5.6 to get professional results, I figured I might as well exchanged it for a Sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM which gets terrific reviews and has a greater zoom ratio.

Comments about Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX Autofocus Lens for Canon APS-C DSLRs:
Better than 10-22 because of constant 2.8, build, and color. Focus speed is very fast and very accrate. Don't shoot into light source as flare control is just average. Otehr than that, it is an amazing lens.

Comments about Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX Autofocus Lens for Canon APS-C DSLRs:
I use the Tokina 11-16mm with my Canon 60D. It is absolutely a must buy wide angle lens for crop sensor cameras. Works great for landscape and architecture photography, as well as event videography.
My only complaint about the lens is that the auto focus is a little slow.

Comments about Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX Autofocus Lens for Canon APS-C DSLRs:
I have been using my 7D for filming only and I have played around with several wide angles for it. This Tokina is about as wide as you can possible get without much barrel distortion. It's low light capability at f/2.8 is perfect for concerts, receptions, and night time shots.

Comments about Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX Autofocus Lens for Canon APS-C DSLRs:
This is a really great lens for the cropped frame sensor cameras and I would use it all the time if I never need telephoto (zooming). It works best with straight on shots vs. angled shots but still looks real good in all shots I took with it. Great in low light.

Comments about Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX Autofocus Lens for Canon APS-C DSLRs:
This product is made for the aps-c sensor which means it focuses to infinity properly and also is really 11mm wide at it's widest. Amazing crisp, fast, very little distortion. I'm just wondering if a regular filter works on it without vignette. Great for indy-film making because it makes tight spaces look very wide. Oh yeah, super smooth aperture and focus rings.

Shipping was fast. No frills unit, shade and caps, no bag, but at this price, no complaints.
Shot one project so far, 1/2 the price of an "L" lens and almost as clear. I'd buy it again.

I checked out the Canon lens as well and for me..it was too light. I prefer a bit of weight in my hand.
The Tokina is good piece of equipment to have in the bag.

I can't say nothing but good things about this lens, low distortion at the edge, if you like to do videos on the 7D with a glidecam or any other stabilizer system, this is the lens you need. As always buying from B&H is a pleasure.

Comments about Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX Autofocus Lens for Canon APS-C DSLRs:
I purchased this lens mainly for some video work and i cant be happier. Great Lens even better than the Canon 10-22 that i have tried working with before. Specially if you are shooting in low light this lens does wonders.
Have to say the autofocus for still shots is a little bit slow, but i always use manual focus on all my lenses specially for video work.
Overall very happy with this Lens, have it on my Canon 7D and the sharpness is just amazing. At F2.8 you cant go wrong with a lens like this.

I love this lens, i have been using it to shoot video on my canon 60D. It give a supper wide image with some distortion but is a very useful and flexible tool.
THe coat and the performance of the lens is great, but you do get distortion at 11mm.

Comments about Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX Autofocus Lens for Canon APS-C DSLRs:
* I'm a Music Video Director and I use the Canon 7D for a majority of my shoots. I needed a wide angle lens with a very good F Stop and it was a toss up between the Tokina and Tamrons wide angle. Did plenty of research and lucky had friends that had both lens. In the end the Tokina is the best fit! It's built stronger and feels comfortable focusing/zooming unlike Tamrons.
Only draw back is that at times the images are a bit soft but that can be because I like shooting with the lens wide open.
Other than that it's a great buy.
THIS WASN'T A GIFT!

Comments about Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX Autofocus Lens for Canon APS-C DSLRs:
I will mostly be using this lens for HD video work on my Canon 7D. This becomes a great compliment to my 24mm-70mm zoom lens. Only drawback is its use for still images with my on-camera flash where I get curved blacked out areas at the bottom of images. Need and external flash to fill this problem area. If no flash is needed then no problem.

Use it for interiors and video on my 60 D. There is a small flare issue but I controlled it with a BW ND .9 filter. I was surprised by the bokeh at 2.8 .
The build is as good as my old Nikon Ais lenses, nice and solid. I will be looking closely at other Tokina lenses. Af could be faster. Manual is nice for closeup video.
