The Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base is a gimbal-type tripod head that incorporates an elevated tilt mechanism and adjustable platform to make the camera/lens' center of gravity and tilt axis of the head be perfectly aligned.
Things once thought of as impossible with a ballhead are nothing short of mundane with a Wimberley, because a weightless camera/lens combo (even a 600mm f/4 w/ large body) can literally be controlled with one finger. Point the rig where you want and take the hand away, and it stays exactly where you put it.
The Version II head is more compact and lightweight, features a redesigned panning base, "soft-touch" knobs, and includes a built-in Arca-type quick release base. Visit lens chart for a chart of compatible lens plates and cameras.

I can only echo all the other good things said about the WH-200, agree that lighter would be even better and throw in a plug for the usual B&H excellent service.

Wimberley WH-200 is the champion of panorama heads, period, used by pros and avid enthusiasts alike, most useful for big lenses, and very big lenses. Wildlife photography, and bird photography, but also video work is so much easier with this head that can balance your lens and camera combination perfectly.
The only heads like it are copies of it!

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:
It's always a pleasure to buy something beautifully built, that does the job it says it will, and then some. This Wimberley gimbal is clearly built up to achieve excellence, not down to a price. While I can't vouch for it's longevity, it looks capable of outlasting me. When the Wimberley is atop my Gitzo 5541LS carbon tripod, my Nikon 400mm f2.8G lens/Nikon D3s combo is solid as a rock and beautifully balanced. The full setup is rapid and accurate to manoeuvre, allowing me to track rapidly moving subjects in sports such as rugby, alpine skiing and surfing.

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:
Use with an old FD 800mm and can move with 1 finger. Precise machining. Awesome for birds. Not real heavy. I re-check both main knobs and clamp and throw the whole rig over my shoulder. No problems so far. Not an issue as of yet but knobs will not tighten rig to the point where I cannot move it. It takes a lot to move it when it's cranked down, but it does move. Probably keeps it from breaking/overstressing something.

What is something worth, what you will pay for it. Well this is a perfect example, Pac Man commercial video games cost a ton, but worth it considering their return on investment. I felt this was overpriced but considering the return on investment and the fact it is supporting a $12,000 lens maybe not. Watch the Wimberley's video on the setup, the balance of the front loaded lens if setup correctly is amazing, you will get shots you would only be thinking about with a ball head.

The wimberly head is perfectly designed, it comes out of the box and can be used immediately, no instructions needed for fixing...
The only negative is there is no easy solution for using the same for landscape shots...but this head was not designed for landscapes...

Comments about Wimberley WH-200 Gimbal Tripod Head II with Quick Release Base:
I have had many tripod and head combinations over the years. When I recently starting doing a large volume of bird photography with 400mm and 800mm lenses, I purchased this Wimberley Head. It is fantastic, and, for use with long teles, far superior to any other head I have used. It is rock solid, easy to operate and there are a wide range of accessories available to enhance its performance (eg. off camera flash brackets that mount onto the tripod mounting plate).
Excellent and highly recommended.

Maneuver your long lens (300 mm or longer)with ease. With this tripodhead you balance your lens and kamera to perfection. Just follow the easy instruktion video on the manufactors website. Then you kan maneuver your equipment with two fingers if you like. Perfect if you shooting birds or other fast moving object.
The head has large sturdy knobs and the overall 'feel' of it ooze of quality.
The only thing i can think of that's a little negative is that it's a bit heavy - 1.4 kg. But if you own a long lens that is hard to shoot with on free hand than this is the tripodhead to buy!
