Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 AT-X 107 DX AF Fisheye Lens for Nikon Digital SLR
The Tokina Fisheye 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 AT-X 107 DX Lens was designed exclusively for use with digital SLR cameras, and combines "full-frame fisheye" (180° diagonal angle of view at a focal length of 10mm) to super wide-angle performance in a single unit.
This lens makes it possible to capture images with an expanded perspective - wider than the human eye can see - including creative deformation of subjects and sharp pan focus that extends throughout the entire frame.
Note! Not suitable for 35mm film SLR cameras, or for 35mm size "full-frame" digital cameras, e.g. Kodak Pro SLR/n. AF not supported by D40 and D60 cameras.
- Ultra Wide Angle
- This lens enables the shooting of full-frame fisheye images with a 180° angle of view and a focal length of 10mm. Furthermore, the lens offers super wide-angle performance that allows photographer to make use of dramatic changes in angle of view resulting from slight changes in focal length.

- WP (Water Proof) coating made of a special fluoride compound has been applied to the front surface of the new lens through the use of a unique evaporation process. As a result, the lens offers excellent water- and oil-repellent performance and makes for easier cleaning should the lens be accidentally smeared with fingerprints or cosmetics.

It's very fun to use...
Of all the lenses in my collection, I carry 2 lenses at all times. This one & my workhorse Nikon 18~200 DX VR-II.
It does fabulous close-ups with an extra twist. When using the macro capability, minute adjustments in lens relation to subject (distance, angle, etc...) can have very dramatic effects on the image.
Great for close range hip shots... with the 180º field of view you can't miss! Mind your feet & camera strap though... they're always sneaking into the frame!
Because of the extreme wide angle, over exposure was a problem at first. You'll definitely will want to back off on the TTL metered exposure and avoid matrix metering... spot works best.
Portraits, both human & pet, are also a great application. Serious portraiture at 10mm ... no. A sense of humor is a must! However, at the 17mm end of the range, very nice effects can be achieved with much less distortion.
However, distortion is a given throughout its entire range. That's why you buy a fish-eye!
Landscapes aren't really my thing, so I can't really comment, except to say I've seen some very interesting & pleasing pseudo-landscape shots (Urban & Architectural...) made with this lens.
The lens is crisp, crisp, crisp, even wide open! This is probably my highest criteria when judging a lens. I just cannot tolerate any softness whatsoever!
No manual focus override on the lens, so you must use the switch on the camera body. Has not been a problem at all for me.
When considering buying this lens, I was concerned that the f/3.5~4.5 might become a problem to me. Because of this, I also considered the Tokina 11~16mm f/2.8, which only has an angle of view of 104°~82°. Ultimately, I chose the 180°~100° angle of view of this lens (which is wider at it narrowest than the 11~16mm at it's widest) over the faster f/2.8 of the other. After having worked with it for a while now, this has not even remotely been a problem. However, I haven't tried using it in low light yet.
Color is Great... maybe too much so.
Has a tendency toward Cyan & Magenta abberations, especially fringing at high contrast interface such as very dark foreground object against very bright background... a relatively minor annoyance in light of all its other pluses.
Have also noticed a tendency to add cyan cast to whites... easily correctable during image editing, and again only in high contrast situations (whites against blacks in broad daylight).
Have not had any problems with flares or internal reflections, and I use this lens frequently in situations where this has been a problem with other lenses.
The lens hood is built in, but I don't really know why they bothered... it's so tiny! I can't really see it doing much more than help protect the glass, which bulges out so far you can't thread any filter over it. I imagine vignetting would preclude using a filter anyway, even a Cokin... I haven't even bothered to experiment with that.
This lens seems to be very sturdy & well built. I'm very impressed with this Tokina product, and would definitely buy another Tokina lens, especially if I can't get what I want from Nikon. I can't say the same about Sigma or Tamron, with which I am singularly unimpressed.
I have absolutely no regrets about buying this lens.

Only problem i can say that i see a lot mostly in bright areas is Purple Fringing,You can always fix it in post editing for the photos but its also on Videos too! This is great price lens when you just need a fisheye since the recent increase in price in nikon glass!

I bought this for underwater photography specifically because it's one inch focusing distance allows for incredible wide angle closeups. Its important to get closeup to a subject with uw strobes to preserve clarity and good color. If you add a teleconverter you can boost its macro capabilities even further. I did notice that it had some trouble autofocusing in low light levels with poor contrast (such as divers wearing black wetsuits against a dark water background.). But it's really the most versatile uw wide angle lens available.

I bought this to use with my new Nikon D3100. The description says that it doesn't work with the D40 and D60 however there's no communication to the D3100. I didn't find this in any reviews at the time and it's a bit disappointing.
CPU aside, it's a great price for a fisheye zoom and takes quality pics and feels solid.

I got this lens for Christmas from my father and I got out and shot with it the other day. It auto focuses better than the other lens I have. I was able to get some very creative shots with it, and it has a ridiculously wide capture range. I cannot wait to get out and shoot some intense scenery with it. It's also small which makes carrying it around easy and great for shooting outdoor portrait shots. I haven't been able to find something I dislike about it yet, and I hope that I don't. Wonderful product, and affordable enough for my price range if I ever want to purchase another lens from the company.

If you are looking for a lens to complete your kit and are not afraid of playing with the large distortion of fishey lens, this might be the one for you.
Not as fast as the nikon 10.5mm, but you benefit from the zoom to cover up to 16mm.
Great optics quality and sturdy build.
Good picture quality in the center of the frame.
great for special effects.
Small vignette... Nothing serious.
Against bright light the output is not as consistent as I'd wish... but if you are crafty you will adapt and find a way.
large chromatic aberration especially at 10. But it seems to be a recurring problem with all the fisheyes I've played with.
Buttom line this lens is not flawless but it's a great buy and lot of fun.

I always wanted a Fisheye lens but could not afford the Nikon 10.5mm Fisheye, so on a recent holiday to NYC, I bought this from B&H.
I LOVE THIS LENS!!
It came in so useful during my holiday because lets face it, NYC needs a fisheye lens to get everything in the photograph plus looks kinda cool! The thing I love with this, is at 10mm you get the full on 180 degree fisheye experience and at 17mm it's only slighty curved but wide enough to still fit a lot in frame. Build quality is really good. feels solid & expensive, well built with a bit of weight to it. It does not feel at all cheap and plasticky, in fact it survived 8 days of being thrown in and out of my backpack whilst stomping all around NYC. Its my best purchase so far! (apart from my D300s)

I've been using a lot this lens looking for something bad to say about the .... and I find nothing, not one but. Excellent clarity, focus faster and better, the color, the color is great. Despite being fish eye the curvature of the photos can not be overstated and can take pictures of people without distorting too much (not in the foreground of course ).... I've used it in wedding photography with excellent results.
It is a great acquisition and I must confess that I buy with fear and not used to use a different brand lenses to nikon, but the 10-17 zoom features seemed very different from what you normally get in the market

Because it's light-weight, small, durable, I take this lens everywhere. Great for the price. It's a fun lens that takes good pictures. Of course it's not as crisp on the edges and there is significant distortion at 10 mm, but I can fix it easily with Photoshop. Not much problem at all unless you are shooting in dark.
