Overall, a very versatile camera. My team uses this and the older EOS XT models for crime scene photography and have had very good results. The included lens is great for normal shots, but you may want to consider telephoto and macro lenses if you are going to get into any type of distance or detail shots. Works extremely well out of the box.
Two downsides we have noted are the weight and the slow response time when using the installed pop-up flash unit. The weight makes it a little difficult when you need to let the camera hang from the strap to do something else. The body is very light and the weight of the lens causes the camera to always point downward. Not a huge hit, but is a bit of a pain. If you use the available (and optional) battery pack, this issue is taken care of.
The slow response time is only when using the pop-up flash. When using no flash or an external variety, this is not an issue.
For the price, though, this is a very solid camera and the included kit items make it even more attractive, especially for folks like us who are on a very strict budget. Low cost and flexibility made this a no-brainer for our Crime Scene Unit.

This is my first SLR Digital camera and have had it for over a year. Lens purchased and used with this camera are "L" series 16-35 mm, "L" series 24-70 mm and 60mm Macro lens. Main subjects are flowers and macro for work.
NEGATIVE: Photos of flowers and macro photos leave a lot to be desired even with these very expensive lens. Thus I've gone back to my film camera for macro work to get razor sharp details of flowers, insects and macro subjects.
I actually love every thing about the camera except its inability to give the same razor sharp focus that I seek.
Pro: For landscape, family photos, general photography this is an very good introductory digital camera.
I'll continue to switch between SLR film and the Rebel xTi until Canon comes out with a digital SLR that meets the razor sharp details I seek and does not cost $2000 plus (I have too many $$ in Canon lens to change to another brand.)

Comments about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm Lens:
We have been using the XTi as our high school digital photo lab camera for a semester and a half with only two failures. These were both due to improper insertion of the CF card by our high school students. The XTi's are holding up remarkably well and we plan to purchase a few more while they are still available.
I have never liked the compact size of the XTi. I much prefer the size of my 50D. However, I have never heard a student complain about the size of the XTi. Students have easily mastered the controls and have no problems working in AV, TV and M mode. Their photographs in RAW format have been excellent. We are very pleased with this camera.

Comments about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm Lens:
I had a film Rebel and decided to make the jump to digital. After reading reviews on a number of competing cameras, I decided to again go with Canon and chose the Digital Rebel XTi. I mostly shoot pictures of the kids, but will occasionally get "artsy" with nature and landscape photography. The XTi offers great bang for the buck, and allows me to switch into "automatic" or override settings for more control at will. Ease of use, photo quality, [...]t. The only "con" I could suggest would be the built-in flash - I wish it gave a bit better performance, as it tends to cast dark shadows. I have my eye on the Speedlite to remedy this situation!

Comments about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm Lens:
This camera was reviewed as a good starter SLR, and it's proving to be so. It's intuitive and takes great pictures indoors and out. This may be my own concern, but I love the fact that the manual is written clearly and gives quite helpful advice on how to improve my skills with the camera. The only drawback I've noticed so far is that you can't use the LCD display to see what you're about to take a picture of; it's only used for interaction with the menu and for playback. The flipside is that when you look through the viewfinder, you're actually seeing a real-time view so that your pictures turn out closer to what you saw than if you were to see the view through the computer-generated LCD. I've so far used the camera outdoors at night at a large event and indoors day and night for portraits, and the pictures are turning out beautifully. In general, this is a wonderful camera for learning more about good photography, and I'm happy with the investment.

Comments about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm Lens:
I wanted to step up from a point & shoot because I was sick of the horrible low-light photos, and wanted something with a bigger zoom. The Canon Rebel XTi has met both these requirements of mine. The built-in flash does a reasonable job, and with an external flash, the pictures are immensely better. The higher ISO setting of 1600 has also helped prevent the need to use the flash. I did debate getting the 40D, which can go to ISO 3200, but the weight turned me off.
The ability to use a larger zoom goes without saying.
The quality of the photos are great, the weight and size are easily manageable. Overall, a great camera.

Comments about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm Lens:
This camera seems wonderful for a person who is making a jump from a point and shoot into DSLR. I have had it for 3 weeks, coming from a Coolpix S4. While I am new to DSLR, and LOVE the xti, I will be moving to a 40D shortly. I can see the limitations with this camera already, and since I intend on becoming a serious photgrapher, I want something more I can grow into. For what this camera is, though, it is a wonderful place to start in the exciting and fullfilling world of photography. Get the battery grip, it really makes a difference!

The camera is lightweight, which my wife loves, and makes an awesome entry-level DSLR or back-up.
The kit lens is quite useful, especially as a wide-angle. Great price to have the lens included, if you're getting into semi-professional work.

Comments about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm Lens:
I just started a photography class, and this is one of the cameras my teacher suggested purchasing. It is easy to use and takes wonderful pictures. I have been very happy with it. The one thing I don't like is that you can't view the pictures as you are taking them on the LCD screen, only through the viewfinder.

Comments about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm Lens:
We purchased the EOS Digital Rebel XTi Digital Camera recently, our second, and it is doing as great a job as our first. This makes our 4th Rebel in as many years. We use these for our annual staff at a community college in Mississippi. I can send a new staff member out on his or her first assignment and the student generally comes back with great photos.
I think its greatest feature is the ease of use. That's important for me, since at community colleges staff members must wear many hats. I just don't have the time between start of classes and the first football game to adequately train a student in all the elements of an SLR. I just have them put the camera on automatic (the green square) and point and shoot. I have not been disappointed with the Canon yet.
Our first Canon is still working as well as our last. They are built to last, and that's important to me because community colleges are generally underfunded, so I look for value, dependability, and ease of use in the equipment I purchase. I've also used this camera on college trips I've covered and it operates well under duress.

I`m orthodontist and this camera fits perfectly well for our professional photos. Greatest thing: portability (considering it`s a profesional camera) and the LCD size. Not so great: at the beginning you may have some trouble to get started using it. Read the manual.

I am very satisfied with my Rebel. Since I have a Canon SLR film camera, I am able to use my other lenses with the Rebel. The pictures are fantastic and the controls are easy and comfortable. It is light weight for an SLR. I am strictly an amateur but I was able to take some great professional looking wedding pics. I am very happy with my purchase!
