Before I make specific comments, I must say I just like Canon color, and the S90 doesn't disappoint. It simply looks rich and lively, unlike my Olympus 550WP which renders lifeless, grey and slightly washed out.I was ready to give up on point and shoot digital photography when I got the Canon. I need a reliable travel camera: small, relatively quick, with manual control. I recently returned from a long trip with the above Olympus which was almost worthless-slow, noisy, unreliable exposures...This was my second try at digital PnS and I was ready to smash the thing-it was so frustrating to use. So far, the Canon has exceed my expectations. So I was careful before purchase. I tried everything! Canon G11-too big and IMHO not worth the extra money for same processor and worse lens than S90. Olympus PEN-a second choice for me, but of the two I would have wanted the $1000 model. I felt for travel, I didn't want to drag lenses. The camera's a bit faster, the micro 3/4 processor is bigger, with the viewfinder and wide angle lens it feels a bit like a Leica-BUT I decided at the money, I'll just wait and get a Canon 7D and have a real camera. That said, I still like Canon S90 color better.I looked at Lumix GF1 and couldn't stand it. Very noisy at high ISO. I also don't like its color or menu set-up.I played with the $2000 Leica as well: this would have been my first choice, but no way do I pay 2K for a single fixed lens. Likewise with every other possibility-I just kept coming back to S90.REVIEW: This is not an SLR. However, the combination of size, color quality, manual set up, and "camera intelligence" make this unbeatable. In a pinch, AUTO mode gives quite nice results in most situations. However, I notice a tendency to blow out the whites. So I'm preferring P mode underexposing -1/3 to -1 stop with better results.I also manually preset the ISO to the lowest possible for the light condition, altho I've used the LOW LIGHT mode for night shots in the Lincoln Tunnel that I'm very happy with. I also shot a series inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art-low light, spot-lit art that came out great. The camera is fast enough for my purposes, with an adequate continuous mode. I'm a street photographer, and I need to capture an instant intuitively, without getting in my head to try to outsmart the camera. So far, the Canon is giving me living pictures I can use. My Olympus was USELESS in this regard.People complain about the back control ring moving too easily and changing settings. (And there are easy on-line mods for this). I, however, have found a left hand cradle grip that leaves the right dials alone. I purchased Richard Franieck custom grip which I've yet to use. I wish Canon would have made cleats on both sides of the camera so you can use a real neck strap. That said, I use the nice Lowe Rizzo 30 horizontal case with shoulder strap for pretty quick access to camera.I'm still learning the manual settings: the online Canon forums are useful for setting tips, as well as a couple of G11 books at [...]. For me, I like to keep it simple-Low ISO, keep the aperture in the "sweet spot", keep exposure compensation in the back wheel, keep the flash off.I'm still learning about the focus options. For the most part, I'm happy to let the camera do the work. I LOVE THIS CAMERA. I ENJOY learning the camera. For my use, it's the ONLY camera out there: a great pocketable point and shoot, with manual controls. And at $350, it won't break the bank. The best performance vs price small point and shoot out there.

If you are looking for a camera that fits into your jeans pocket this is a good choice. It takes good pictures during the day (ISO 100) or if it's mounted on a tripod. However be ware that if you are not using a tripod and go above ISO 500 you will have a lot of noise in your pictures. Also it shows some noise in high contrast scenes as well even at ISO 320. Be prepared to tweak it to get some decent color. Given the size of the camera I am ok with the IQ. This is a good compact camera if you understand its limitations. I would rather have some noise in my pictures than not have an image that I liked just because I did not feel like carrying my DSLR that day. Trek-Tech has a little grip/clamp called VersaMount I highly recommend it with this camera.

The amount of control you have with this camera is amazing for it's size. I would have liked the front ring to move smoothly though, and it doesn't have a viewfinder.

This was my answer to portability and pro functions without having to carry around the bigger G11 which has the same sensor and same functions with less zoom. If you have a big capable DSLR but you do not carry it around with you at all times and you do not want to miss its functions buy this product.
I am using it around the world and i am very happy with it!

This camera was a move up from a lower end Canon point and shoot. The quality of the images is outstanding--far superior to my other camera. I'm still getting comfortable with its features and capabilities but so far I'm very impressed. I bought this S90 refurbished and it is worth every penny and then some.

I bought this camera as a pocket camera that I can carry around with me anywhere. It sure fits for that. It has amazing image quality and very impressive low-light/high iso performance. Seeing how the guts are the same as the s95, I saved almost $100 buying this on instead. I've had it for two weeks now and it's been fantastic. Shot a few hundred images this weekend with it, some video, everything is great. This is my second B&H refurbished purchase and I'm super happy with both. [...]

I've had Canon camera's my whole life and they've always taken amazing pictures. I've only had this one a few weeks, but have taken it to a BBQ and around Manhattan taking photos. So far, this camera has taken some amazing shots that even surprised me. The colors were excellent and the shots crisp. I absolutely love that you can zoom in further than the 3.8x that it says you can and still get fairly spectacular shots. The menus are easy to use and intuitive. For some reason, I keep missing the click button, but I think I just have to get used to my new camera. I haven't had a chance to use the manual functions yet, so I cannot speak to those. All in all, a great camera at a decent price.

I love my new camera. Had Canon powershot S30 before and it served me well for 5 years. I also have Canon D30 with good lenses, but it is heavy to carry around all the time. This is great backup. I love it!

Comments about Canon PowerShot S90 Digital Camera:
I carry this when a DSLR would be obtrusive. It provides very good quality to about 400. 800 with some post processing (but don't underexpose). I tend to use the raw format which processes the same a my Canon DSLR's. Having F2 at the short end is useful, F4.9 at the long end, not so much. Battery life seems a bit short.

Incredible. I love this camera. I'm an avid (sometimes pro, mostly for fun) photographer. Until now, I've been a Nikon user, but this little camera has changed my mind completely. I'm now saving for a Canon t2i.
What's great- takes crystal clear, beautiful shots. Fantastic low-light capacity. Dummy-proof for those with less photography experience. Takes great HD videos too!
One small challenge is that the menu is a bit difficult to use and takes some times getting used to. Also, flash is typical of any small camera.

Comments about Canon PowerShot S90 Digital Camera:
This camera blows away everything else I've seen in terms of soaking in all available light to produce realistic looking photos of inside shots. Seriously: tired of tossing pics because your subjects are dark? I was. Both WIRED magazine and NYTimes call this camera (and it's successor, the S95, if you want to pay another hundred bucks for the same basic thing) the very, very top. DSLR type pics for just over 300$??? Incredible. My family pics and outdoor landscapes, colors, and ESPECIALLY close ups look like National Geographic shots. In fact, I lost my first one and didn't think twice about buying a duplicate. Now, all my friends have one and family members, within a few months of showing S90 pictures to them. They can't believe it. Plus, AUTO function essentially does it all. Easiest camera I EVER USED.

This was the first time I had used B&H. I was sent here by a friend who is a professional.I was in the market for the new S95 but after reading the reviews, thought the S90 would suit me just fine (wasn't going to shoot HD video). When I saw this factory refurbished deal, I thought it was too good to be true. It was a $100 savings over the S95 and > $60 over a new S90. As it was reconditioned by the factory, I decided to take the risk. I was pleasantly surprised.Camera [...] was as good as new. I couldn't believe it...it is a NEW camera. On top of all that it takes exceptional photos. All the reviews I have read about it are true. It may be the best point-n-shoot on the market.Bravo to Canon and Bravo to B&H!

Just got my s90 recently after a photog friend recommended it as a replacement for my old Coolpix. It is the best camera I've ever used -- so easy to point and shoot, but lots of settings if you want to go manual. Love the macro for tight shots of food (my personal hobby)and the adjustments on "Auto" setting ensure your most spontaneous shots are great. Highly recommend!

I recently purchased this camera for my wife for her birthday. We had talked about getting a camera for awhile as we were expecting our first child on November 3rd and wanted to capture those special moments in the first days of our daughter's life. We love the camera and have captured many precious moments to share with others.

I'm no pro, but like a camera that has short lag and good low-light capability.
This camera fits that need beautifully. The Canon S90 is nice to hold and small enough to fit in my purse. A CaseLogic zippered case fits it snug enough to fit in a jacket pocket. So far I have not found anything negative about the camera other than it does have a learning curve. :) Great camera from a great vendor!
