This monitor has made a big difference in my photo editing. In researching the whole issue of monitors, I was a little concerned that the P221W is an S-PVA, rather than an IPS monitor, but now that I have it, the viewing angle seems excellent, unlike my old TN monitor and the color, contrast and brightness is very stable. Certainly more than adequate for my purposes. I can move my head all around while sitting in front of it and nothing changes and that's what I was looking for! It took a few tries to get the Spectraview II callibration working the way I wanted. It defaults to a high luminance (120 cd/m2 I think) and aims for high contrast. To get the display to more accurately match the prints from my Epson 3880 in my particular working conditions, I had to turn the luminance down to 90 cd/m3, but this resulted in a high Delta E (circa 5). Turning down the contrast to 250:1 did the trick and the match is now very close. Certain colors aren't a dead-on perfect match to my printer, but that might have something to do with the printer profile (a generic one from Epson) I am using or whatever. Anyway, it's certainly well in the ballpark and so, so much better than my old TN Viewsonic. I am very happy with this monitor and wish I had realized how critical a good monitor is before I wasted all that paper over the years making proof prints.

Product has a quite noticeable shift from green to red, left to right respectively. Most notable when veiwing a blank white document. This is the first thing I noticed when I started working on it.
I expected much better uniformity. Terrible for important color matching work, and viewing images side by side.
I will be returning and buying a NEC with an IPS panel, which i understand will be much better at achieving uniformity, although about double the price, but if you need it, you need it.

When I received this monitor and plugged it in it was dead. BH was great about the return and I am waiting for a new monitor with hopefully great results.

Comments about NEC MultiSync P221W-BK 22" Widescreen LCD Computer Display with Calibrator:
I needed a new monitor to replace my aging NEC 21" CRT monitor. I had a very difficult time choosing between the P221W 22" monitor and the PA224 24" IPS panel monitor due to the fact that I am really very quality oriented. I finally convinced myself that being an amateur I really couldn't justify the cost difference between the two and purchased the P221. I hoped that I would be satisfied with it when it arrived. I received the monitor from BH and after 3 days had time to set it up. Basic set up was straight forward and took little time. I then installed the calibration software and hardware and calibrated the screen for the first time. It took 3 calibration runs to get the E values to a .83 level. After calibration the monitor displayed gorgeous color (better than my old calibrated CRT) and a very smooth, detailed image. Later, I took the time to re-visit some of my Nikon D2X raw files in Photoshop and was very excited to see correctable faults such as chromatic aberration, etc that I had not seen with my old monitor. The colors and brightness levels are extremely even across the viewing area and the viewing angles have little effect on the screen appearance. Black levels are also very good for an LCD monitor. Also, after a month's use, not a single dead pixel. I have no doubt that the PA224 IPS panel monitor is a great monitor, but for my use as an amateur, I am very pleased with my purchase. I would think that even professional users would be quite satisfied with this monitor.

Comments about NEC MultiSync P221W-BK 22" Widescreen LCD Computer Display with Calibrator:
After working with an inexpensive monitor for the last several years I wanted to go to the next step and get a professional grade display. Couldn't afford the 24" models so I got the P221W-BK. It is amazing the difference in color this thing makes. I now have two monitors, both calibrated, side by side, and the difference is clear as day. All my old monitor is good for is parking photoshop tools on to make more room on the P221W. My whole editing process just got supercharged. Looking like a lot less wasted paper and ink for the future. Got it with the Spectraview option because I didn't have a puck that could do wide gamut, and I'm glad I did, it's painless.

Comments about NEC MultiSync P221W-BK 22" Widescreen LCD Computer Display with Calibrator:
I moved from a iMac LED display to this when I built up a PC to run both Photoshop and Premiere Pro. I am currently only running with the one monitor, but might go with a duel setup. I love everything about this display other then its a bit smaller then my previous setup. The calibration setup was super easy and my prints are looking just as good if not better then what I was getting before. It displays greens almost as if I had never really seen green before. -More vivid or rich. This might be the expanded gamut of the display. My budget for my new display was $750 to $1000 and this came in well below that. Too good a deal to pass up!

Comments about NEC MultiSync P221W-BK 22" Widescreen LCD Computer Display with Calibrator:
To my surprise I received an MDSVsensor in the box (custom calibrated for wide gamut displays, great!). I intend to use this display for photo-editing and am aware of the importance of calibrated displays. The NEC P221W has an excellent contrast ratio and wide gamut near AdobeRGB. Unfortunately, I didn't realise that "HD Graphics (GMA HD) chipsets (based on Core i3, i5 and i7) are not currently supported" by the Spectraview II software (I should have read the "fine print") and NEC told me that it's a hardware (Intel) problem and there will not be any support in the future. No worries, I am figuring out how to calibrate this display with third party software.Buy this because there's nothing better available at this price point. Way cheap [...]

Comments about NEC MultiSync P221W-BK 22" Widescreen LCD Computer Display with Calibrator:
I bought this monitor and colorimeter combo to match the display to my printed photos. After selecting the initial target values, calibrating the monitor using the NEC-branded colorimeter and SpectraViewII software takes just a click of the mouse. Previously, I had used an i1Display calibrator with i1Match software on a 3rd party monitor. There's no comparison in terms of ease of use.
SpectraViewII offers the handy ability to lock out the monitor's controls, making it easy to prevent others from inadvertently changing the calibrated settings. SpectraViewII also runs natively on Macs with Intel processors, so I have a level of confidence that NEC will be able to keep the software current when Apple removes Rosetta emulation from OS X 10.7 (Lion).
The P221W impressed me with its ability to be calibrated down to a luminance of 90 cd/m2. A luminance value of 100 cd/m2 provides good match for my print viewing conditions. The monitor's stand allows you to raise the height by pushing up lightly on the bottom of the monitor's bezel, or to lower the monitor by pushing down. The screen has a wide viewing angle and requires little effort to tilt. It also pivots into Portrait orientation.
All the necessary cables (power, DVI and VGA) are included and the monitor connects directly to my Mac mini's DVI port. NEC thoughtfully includes a cover to create a cable chase for the power and video cables down the length of the monitor's neck, which does a good job in keeping them neat and reducing clutter.

Comments about NEC MultiSync P221W-BK 22" Widescreen LCD Computer Display with Calibrator:
I am very pleased in the early going. Setup was a snap. The color gamut of this display is remarkable, and the SpectraView II calibration software and colorimeter permit calibration and profiling at a level that mimics the luminescence of photographic paper. There was very good correspondence between display and print right out of the box, and things get better with repeat calibration. This is not a display for everyone, because it lacks bells and whistles, but it is affordable and serves the needs of serious photographers quite nicely.

Comments about NEC MultiSync P221W-BK 22" Widescreen LCD Computer Display with Calibrator:
I bought the NEC P221W-BK with the spectraview software because I wanted a better monitor for photo editing. The colors are great and everything worked perfectly. I've never had to calibrate a monitor before but I had no troubles installing the software and then running the program. Naturally, a monitor this size is going to be on the heavy side but given I don't plan on moving it that is not really an issue. I actually have it setup to both my laptop and desktop computer which made my setup a little more complicated but because it has both DVI-D and VGA ports, I was able to plug in both computers without much hassle.

Comments about NEC MultiSync P221W-BK 22" Widescreen LCD Computer Display with Calibrator:
Im a photography student and i need my colors to be 'on point' or my grade will surely suffer. Thankfully this monitor is great at what it does. Setting up the calibrator was easier than expected and is very fun to watch. The stand, alone, is awesome because of how easy it makes adjusting the monitor. It has a well balanced center of gravity(no tipping) which makes swiveling easy with no drag. Adjusting height and rotating the screen works with ease. The only thing i find a bit awkward is carrying the monitor from desk to desk. It is a bit heavy and unbalanced(?) but that doesn't matter since its meant to be stationary, not portable.

Great monitor and I am using it for photography. The included Calibration software and calibrator worked flawlessly. I followed the online review and calibration procedure by David B. Brooks and had no problems. If you only use to for viewing the monitor a much brighter screen than my replace Viewsonic. I can't be happier.

Thus far I have zero complaints about this monitor. Set up was a breeze for both the monitor and the Spectraview calibration system. My Mac Mini recognized everything in a snap. I am a photographer who does a lot of work with Photoshop and a high quality monitor is an important tool. The P221W is a great monitor at a very reasonable price. Color is great and the clarity even better. The inclusion of the ability to calibarate the monitor is a plus.
The monitor is a bit cumbersome to setup but with a little assistance from a very good help desk I was up and running in about 30 minutes. Another 30 minutes and another call to the help desk and I had calibrated the monitor to fit my needs.

Great automation of settings with the calibrator. However, it looks darker than I had anticipated, though with some very rich and lovely tones. Haven't printed from this view yet, but things should definitely end up a little brighter! At least, it makes things more beautiful, if it does nothing else . . .

I bought this monitor for pro photo work mostly based on price, calibration and Adobe RGB gamut range. The NEC calibration software is extremely precise and straighforward. You have to spend a lot more on an EIZO to get similar results.
