It is equivalent to 70-200mm on a 35mm camera, and covers from medium-telephoto range of natural angles to telephoto area with a compressed perspective effect. Its fast shutter-speeds and beautifully soft out-of-focus image behind the main subject are an ideal for portrait, theatrical and sports shooting under the low-light. I have the complete line of Olympus "high grade" lenses. They're all great lenses, but this 35-100mm lens (in Olympus' "SUPER high grade" line) blows them all away. This lens produces images that are so rich and vibrant, so razor sharp, so absolutely beautiful, that it's as if I'm shooting with a completely different camera. I wish it weren't so big and heavy because I'd love to have this as my all-around lens.
Pluses:
Color quality. Very rich and vibrant colors.
Sharpness: Very crisp. Edge definition is outstanding, and a vast improvement on the already very sharp "high grade" lenses
Performance: No distortion or abrasion to speak of. Haven't seen any so far. Focus is pretty fast. No hunting.
Another plus is that sweet 2.0 aperture. Nice bright/fast lens. And it's 2.0 throughout the focal range, which is an added plus.

Negatives:
BIG HEAVY lens. Probably can't be avoided when dealing with a lens of this quality. But the thing weighs even more than my 50-200mm lens, and it's bigger, too. Be very careful mounting and removing this lens. And avoid carrying your camera around with this lens attached. You'll strain the mounts, and you're also liable to knock it against a door frame, or a wall while walking around.

Ideal for medium telephoto and portraiture.

Okay, so this baby is priced in the stratosphere. Heck, one can get 3 Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 camera bodies of this single lens from Olympus. Hmmm....

This thing is so heavy, you will need tripod support/tripod mounting at all times. Hmmm....

Lamentable zoom range of only as very modest 2.5x. Hmmm....

Yeah, it is "fast" at F2.0. But then again, compared to the latest M4/3 primes with F0.95, F1.4, F1.7 maximum open iris settings, it is not all that bright at all.

I'll just get three top-notch ultra-fast primes instead, plus have money left over for another Lumix GH2 body as well. Just sayin'....

Comments about Olympus 35-100mm f/2.0 ED Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens:

When I first saw the size and felt the weight of this lens being a woman, I thought "what have I done", but after a little practise I soon changed my mind.
Last weekend I went on a model photo shoot in a park and walked around for 3 hours hand holding my camera. At then end of the day did not even notice the weight.
I was worried that my shots would be blurred by movement but when I down loaded them every one was perfectly clear.
I would recommend this lens to anyone who it considering it.

Believe the reviews on this one -- it's some beautiful glass, with amazing clarity and minimal distortion. I was forewarned that it was heavy, and buyers should take that into account. I use it on the solidly built flagship E-5, but even so there's a challenge dealing with balance issues. And yet, I'm balking at ever taking this one off the camera...

Comments about Olympus 35-100mm f/2.0 ED Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens:

This is the best medium telephoto zoom lens and portrait lens for 4/3rds and beyond.

Lens is extremely sharp and detailed with beautifully smooth bokeh and great color and contrast.

It's focal lenght is very versatile for portraiture, indoor events and even close quarters sports which in which longer lenses can be too long.

Autofocus is quite good, not as fast as 50-200mm SWD or 150mm f2 for instance, but it does the job. One great point is that it's quite accurate and AF will rarely if ever miss.

Downside is that the lens is quite big with huge lens hood, but it's built like a tank with full weather sealing, internal zoom and focus action.

Contrary to specs, it's minimum focus distance is 1.2 meters, not 1.4m and the lens works really great with EX-25 extension tube for macro.

It's is not cheap, but it's worth every penny if you shoot portraits, events, concerts and generally need a fast lens.

Comments about Olympus 35-100mm f/2.0 ED Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens:

I've gone to many weddings where photographers had (of course) a cannon or nikon taking pics inside the church under lower inside lighting at longer distances and produced reasonable results. I differently knew I couldn't do this with my E-1 and 14-54 lens. Well to my surprise my wife surprised me with a E-5 last x-mas. First time tears came to my eyes in a long time!! I later bought the 50mm macro and 12-60 SWD lenses.
My nephew's little boy was to baptized in July so I decided to be like a nikon or cannon photographer and try to take pics in church conditions. Since it was a christening and not a wedding there would be little pressure who ever wanted to take pictures could.
Guess what-- just for the hec of it I rented the olympus 35-100. The minute I put in on the E-5 I was in photo dream land. I first started in the choir loft about 60 ft from the altar. These pictures were incredible with 2.0 aperture the pictures were like having the 50mm at 10ft NOT 60 FT. From that distance the pics were incredibly sharp and very bright and colors popped. I then moved to the altar and took the rest of the photos from 4 to 15 ft away. Afterwards I took pics at the reception.
You would really have to see my photos to realize the IQ of this lens. The colors, sharpness, creamy backgrounds are truly magical.
When I do go to another wedding I will look at those nikon and cannon wedding photographers definitely in a different light (Ha Ha) I may just pull out my own 35-100 lens (I hope next xmas) and see them run for the megapixel hills!!
P.S. I had such a great time taking pictures with this brilliant lens I really couldn't remember the weight everybody complains about.

I use this lens for all types of videos. It is beautiful at f 2 but using the Panasonic AF100, you really must use the focus assist to truly tell if you're sharp. At 100mm, it's nice and crisp. You just need to note that the minimum focal distance is about 4 1/2 feet. Be warned that this is not a macro lens. Overall, a solid lens (and definitely heavy).

Comments about Olympus 35-100mm f/2.0 ED Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens:

I got this lens just less than a week ago, was able to do an impromptu photoshoot with a friend and then photograph a large community service event to test drive it. Today I was able to film a short video with a friend.

My overall experience with this lens so far has been far better than with any other lens I have ever used. I had slight trouble with backlighting, my foreground continuously came up underexposed (nothing a little lightroom couldn't fix) using spot, center, and matrix light metering. The resolution is incredible. I use this lens on the Olympus E-5, and I've never seen images so clear. I shot mostly at f/2, the edge to edge clarity was outstanding and the bokeh was beautiful.

Not a light lens. Luckily I also use the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 which weighs in at about 3lbs. This is not too different than the 4.5lbs that this weighs. This brings the entire weight of the camera to around 6lbs... without the battery grip and flash unit. I used it straight for about 4-5 hours and didn't get tired, but I could tell I used it the next day, slightly... If you can learn to brace it effectively, it's not unmanageable.

Only fault i can find is the case that it comes with is too big so i just place in my normal camera bag and all is solved.

Great lens, you will not disappointed.

I use the 35-100 as a faster replacement for the 50-200. The build quality and resulting image quality of this lens is amazing. I now have a much more capable indoor sport shooting setup with this lens.

Pros: Sharp at f/2, sharper at f/2.8, focus limiter to assist with focus hunting, focus stop buttons for use with C-AF.

Cons: Heavy. AF motor slightly noisy. The lens is heavier than I anticipated, so I use it on a monopod. The tripod mount on the lens is very stiff, and has no problem supporting the lens, E-3 and grip.

I use this lens in many types of situations. It has low light strengths as well as use in the outdoors. The color, clarity, resolution are superior. I use this lens with a E-30, an E-3, and an E-5. The biggest draw back is the weight. I have a number of high grade lenses but this 30-100 is very special. The cost is worth it. I keep it in my shooting bag when I travel.

Comments about Olympus 35-100mm f/2.0 ED Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens:

Although hefty, this lens has no peer. It is extremely well made and optically superlative. It's reasonablly fast to autofocus and the limiters do help. I use it with the E5 and have also used it on the panasonic GH1 to shoot video which it also does very well.

This lens is actually reasonably priced when you consider it's performance against other FF lenses. It is however heavy, and that is it's one downside, It's heavier than it's FF competitors, but every time I look through the viewfinder, I know it's worth it.

Comments about Olympus 35-100mm f/2.0 ED Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens:

This is an outstanding zoom lens for the 4/3 system. I use this lens often, second only to the 14-35 mm lens I leave on the camera for general use. It is outstanding as a portrait lens especially when used outdoors; the shallow depth of field allows for a pleasing bokeh. I use it primarily on the E3 body; this combination is weather resistant and I have used it in the rain and in all sorts of foul weather and adverse conditions. The optics are fantastic. It is heavy but still good for handheld use. I keep a neutral density filter on it to protect the optics.

Comments about Olympus 35-100mm f/2.0 ED Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens:

This lens is very useful in low light and with fast action events. The lens is very fast (bright) which allows for fast shutter speeds to capture the action. The auto-focus is very fast and works very well while tracking moving subjects and in low light conditions.

The lens is very high quality and is extremely sharp

The focus range switch is very useful for shooting sporting events. The focus lock buttons are very convenient to use in both landscape and portrait orientation.

The only drawback is the weight of the lens - which is to be expected with a lens of this focal length and brightness. The lens can be used hand held if you are steady, but a tripod will be very helpful.
