The Tokina 100mm f/2.8 - AT-X M100 PRO D is a macro lens capable of life-sized (1:1) reproduction at 11.8" (30 cm).
The lens' multi-coating has been re-engineered to match the highly reflective silicon based CCD and CMOS sensors in today's digital SLR cameras. This lens gives the best of both worlds because optics still give full coverage and excellent sharpness on 35mm film. A macro lens that can handle both the digital and film worlds with ease.

Owned the 100mm f/2.8 AT-X for about one month. So far I've used this lens primarily for pet portraits, and also have taken some outdoor test shots to compare it to other Canon lenses that cover its range (an EF 28-135mm IS USM f/3.5-5.6, and an original EF 75-300mm USM f/4-5.6). The 100mm AT-X is perfect for pet photography, just long enough to keep itself out of range of wet noses, and fast enough for nice, softly blurred backgrounds and indoor use without flash. The first non-Canon lens I've owned that I really like - very solid without being too heavy, extremely good fit and finish, doesn't feel 'cheap' and 'plastic-y' like so many other 3rd party lenses (and even some Canon lenses) that I've tried. As warmer weather approaches and the critters begin to emerge I plan to use this as my primary lens for outdoor/nature close-up work, its macro capability is very impressive.

Bad Focus
I tried using this product to photograph rings and such. I don't know if I just got a bad egg or if this lens isn't worth the savings from the canon lens.

It does not like to focus. I will sit there pushing the button in and it will take it forever. I really hope I can exchange this lens. I am not happy at all with it.

Comments about Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
The reason I bought this lens is due to its ability to be used on film bodies as well as digital. I find myself moving more toward film and this lens is excellent. The close-up capabilities are great, even though it extends out away from the lense body. Using it as a portrait lens gives me more flexibility for closeup photography of lips or the eyes, or just general portrait work. Canon does make a wide variety of professional lenses, but I am finding some very reasonable alternatives in Tokina and Tamron. They don't break the bank in cost and due to their cost I am able to acquire a wider variety. Maybe one day I will find that one lens which covers all my needs, but until then I will continue to use this fine product for the duration of this photographic experience. Reading the reviews can help in your decision, but once you try this out you most likely will change your mind on the Canon only concept. This is a fantastic lens.

Comments about Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
External focusing was a problem for me, it seems to always get in the way. I felt that the lens wasn't as sharp as I think a Macro lens should be. It wasn't that much cheaper than the Canon lens so I exchanged it.

I have only owned this lens for a short time but I am quite impressed and pleased with it so far especially for the price.
Photos are tack sharp and the lens is built like a tank.

Comments about Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
Tokina to me is the most consistent third party lens maker. Always produce very clear images. The only thing I don't want about this lens is i really need a tripod to have crystal clear images. But that's me. Other than that, no complain about it. It's a great lens.

Comments about Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
I feel like I discovered some secret. This lens is a fantastic value. Keep in mind that I was previously using extension tubes, the difference in being able to achieve the results I want is astounding. I have obtained some remarkable images so far and have only been shooting for about a month. The great low light performance also lends this lens to great performance for indoor shooting -- it was perfect for my daughter's ballet recital. I did a lot of research before buying this lens. I have not had the benefit of extended use of its competitors for comparison, but was shocked with the value of this lens.
The push/pull MF/AF switching is not my favorite feature, nor is it particularly troublesome. In general, I am not really switching back and forth, anyway. I am shooting manual for macro and auto for just about everything else.

I use it underwater with an ikelite housing. Slow focus but most macro lens have a slow auto focus. Does the job great.

I actually use this lens underwater with an ikelite flat port. The auto focus is slow, but so are most macro lenses. No complaints at all on my side.

Affordable. Will take good macro photos at 1:1. Takes getting use to switching from MF to AF. A little slower than what most lens will be like in terms of focussing.

I would have given it 5 stars if it had IS or focused faster but a Macro Lens is Macro lens. Get Up-Close and personal with the bugs.
I've used it for Portraits and for Macro and it did a beautiful job in both areas. Nice rich colors on my 5D & 7D. This lens made me fall in love with my 7D because I was disappointed with the 7D performance. Shooting macro with the 7D and Tokina 100mm macro was as easy as turning on the camera.
I love this lens.

Comments about Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
Excellent macro lens! I happen to like the push-pull focus ring for switching from AF to MF more than the hard-to-find-in-the-dark switches on Canon (non- full-time manual) lenses. It's just a matter of preference.
Two things that could be better - AF in low light is quite slow. Just switch to manual to save time and frustration. The last thing is that this lens both feels and sounds to have more friction between itself and the camera body than any other lens I have. Not necessarily a bad thing now but maybe could cause some problems in the long run?

I just purchased the lens a few weeks ago and have not had a chance to
do an in depth analysis, however my results to date have been excellent.
I have been using it for macro photography to date and intend to use it as
a portrait lens eventually. The lens auto focuses very accurately and the sharpness and detail are superb, The lens is very sturdily built and the fit and finish is excellent. The focus limiter works very well allowing the auto focus to be relative fast.
The only issue I have is that it seems a little sluggish in low light conditions.

True. For the money it is a wonderful lense. I have not yet had the chance to really put it to the test. So far the lense has exceeded my expectations.

Use this primarily for video on my 7D. This is definitely my favorite lens. Solid lens, gorgeous bokeh, pristine image. I used to always shoot wide angle, but I find myself reaching for this lens so much it makes me wonder if I should have gotten the IS L-glass, though normally when shooting video with this lens on I either want the camera shake or am using a tripod.

Comments about Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS:
This is an excellent lens with nice quality finish, quick AF and very nice levels of motor noise - the limit switch it very handy to keep AF at a minimum. Images so far have been extremely sharp and free of Chromatic Aberation. Weighting of the lens on the camera gives a nice solid feel, movements are smooth and precise. Using as a portrait lens the AF is incredibly quick considering the focus is not all internal. Price point is also very nice as images compare (and exceed) those taken with pricier units. Only caveat is a small amount of hunting in AF in low light at 1:1 marco level - but that is not the normal way to do macro anyway! [...]

I have used this lens a lot of times since I purchased it. What I have liked about it is the sharpness and great quality I am getting from the images. One great thing about this lens is that you can manual focus during auto focus mode. What i didn't like about the lens is that it is very loud while focusing, it is also very slow in low light situations. Other than that it is a great lens and having macro capabilities a great plus!
