When you first get this tablet, if you've never used a tablet before (like me), you will be a bit stressed out, it's radically different than using a mouse, trackpad or any other pointing device. But once you get the hang of it, you will wonder how in the world you've lived without it.

I use the tablet primarily for Photoshop and Lightroom, but also for web browsing from time-to-time. The "pro" series has a touch ability so it works like a touchpad/trackpad, which makes it really great for activities where you might not expect a tablet to excel. It even has multi-finger gestures like the macbook pro line's touchpad.

In photoshop and lightroom, it will make your life so much easier. It cuts my editing time in half. Being able to precisely edit or draw is wonderful. If you do a lot of editing photos, a tablet is a MUST-HAVE accessory.

It does take a while to get used-to, though, as instead of dragging the pen across the tablet, you just hover across. Tapping the pen to the tablet is the same as clicking your mouse. So it's not quite as intuitive as you'd think, initially. The way I learned it is to go back and edit some of my old photos, forcing myself to use ONLY the tablet to do everything. After 35-40 photos, it was like second nature. This probably isn't something you're going to pick up and instantly be comfortable with, but don't let that scare you away, it's a wonderful accessory. The learning curve isn't as steep as I thought it would be, thankfully, as this was a real concern of mine. Wacom also has some great videos on their website about how to use it and how to get more comfortable with it, including several VERY detailed instructional videos about how it works with various programs.

The "pro" line of Wacom tablets has the buttons along the side and the scrolling area. In my opinion, it's worth every penny of the additional price. All the buttons on the side are fully customizable. You can have the buttons do regular button presses or even program them to do complex actions. The pen also has 2 buttons on it (and an eraser on the top), but I believe the pen is the same model as in the non-pro tablet.

I was told that if you edit photos, get the "small" tablet. If you do drawing get the "large" and if you do both, go for the large or medium. I bought the small and I'm very happy with the area that I have to work with, it's actually larger than I expected. Personally, I think having any larger of a surface might have actually slowed me down a bit. I had a wacom tablet MANY years ago which was tiny and I never used it much because it was TOO small. You won't have that problem with this one though. I think the small is perfect for photo editing and basic computing tasks.

When you take the tablet out of the box, you might be wondering where your extra nibs (the tips for your pencil) are. They're inside the pencil holder. You twist the bottom off and they're neatly aligned inside there (very clever placement, btw, Wacom). It comes with 5 regular nibs, 4 felt and one other type that I don't yet understand. I expect that will be enough to last me many years because there's really not a lot of touching going on when editing photos, other than when you are doing direct edits like dodging/burning or targeted adjustments. Even then, you really don't have to press that hard to make it work. I have read that some people are going through one of these nibs every few weeks, but I have no clue HOW they're doing that, unless they're pushing down too hard or misusing the pen.

Mine came programmed to use for a left-handed person, which really wasn't that big of a deal, I just downloaded the software and changed it to right-handed. The software is super-easy to use, very intuitive and extremely customizable. You can set up different programs in different ways, which I thought was really a nice touch. The buttons can be programmed to do anything you want them to do. I'm using the tablet on a macbook pro retina model and OS X 10.9.4 (the latest update as of today).

The tablet itself feels sturdy and solid, but it's not heavy. It's very pleasant to touch and use. The pen could be a little too fat if you have very small hands, but for me, it's perfect. The tablet has a rubbery-type edge, so you don't have to worry about it slipping out of your hands if you're holding it. It has rubber feet so it doesn't slide around on your desk when you're using it. This model also comes with a six foot cable, which is twice as long as the 3' model in the lower-priced line. I have mine plugged into a powered USB 3 hub, with two hard drives and it works just fine. It also has LED lights on the 4 corners of the "active" area, which make it really easy to see when you're getting close to the edge, the LEDs are adjustable from low light all the way up to very bright that can be seen in a well-lit room.

Overall, this is a really great tablet and I don't think I could live without it for photo editing anymore. Going back to a mouse/trackpad seems unthinkable and quite clunky now. I *strongly* recommend it for photo editors, photographers and anyone who uses photoshop or lightroom. You'll wonder how in the heck you lived without a tablet for so long.

I bought this to primarily use in my photo processing in Lightroom. Although I move quickly with my mouse, I felt that a pen tablet would offer more control.
Pros: Ergonomics are very good. The pen feels natural and the surface of the tablet is spot on. The tablet ships with an assortment of nubs for the pen, all which give a different feel. The tablet has several programmable buttons that add flexibility. The tablet is light and thin. I have the small, which is more than suitable for my needs. The small tablet does not take up much real estate, and offers more than enough room to work. Set-up was not difficult, with both wireless and usb included.
Cons: First, the tablet does require a steep learning curve. Not so much with the technology, but certainly with the comfort. It is a different way of interfacing with your programs that is not necessarily intuitive. You must re-learn how you work. I'm not there yet after 2 weeks, but I have hope. Second con, and hence my two (2) star rating, is that drivers for the tablet get dumped every time the computer (Win7) goes to sleep, hibernates, or reboots. You get prompted that the "Driver cannot be found." After an afternoon wasted deleting and reinstalling the software, I found a work around on the internet, which involve a convoluted processed of terminating the Wacom service and re-initiating the service. No way on this green Earth is this an acceptable flaw. It's an unnecessary hassle. Until Wacom sends out a fix for the driver, no more stars!

I previously owned one of Wacom's Bamboo models with half the sensitivity as this Intuos Pro. This is a phenomenal tool for the photographer interested in fine detail retouching and creating beautiful photographs. Consider the small Intuos Pro if you're a photographer. The larger tablets are better suited to the needs of graphic designers.

I love this thing. I own the largest of an older model wacom tablet and for transportation purposes I decided to invest in the small wireless model. This thing rocks. the size is not a problem for me whatsoever and I really dig how great this thing works. I have yet to experience any kind of lag or anything. awesome product and I highly recommend it to anyone in the design/photography industry.

I debated a long time whether or not I should purchase a pen/tablet for use with editing my photos. I finally gave in and decided to give it a shot. WOW! Doing photo touch up work is so much easier with this tablet than with a mouse or a trackpad. I'll never give it up my tablet!

Installation and setup was a snap on my Mac. You can easily customize the tablet controls globally and/or by specific programs. It is taking awhile to figure out exactly how I want to customize is for each program … but the process itself is very straightforward.

I didn't find the learning curve for basic photo editing to be very steep. I was removing unwanted antennae, wires, etc. from my photos in no time. However, it is taking me longer to get use to using the pen/tablet as a general computer input device (e.g., navigating menus). I'm getting better at it and the touch portion of the tablet is helping since it's similar to my trackpad … although it's a little awkward trying to use the touch gestures while holding the pen in the same hand (I know, I could place the pen in its handy holder).

This was a gift from my dad after I recommended I would like to have one of these because I was learning photoshop. I was completely fine with a mouse and key board and didn't think that there would be much of a difference. After the first time using it however, I can saw I wont edit in Photoshop or lightroom without it. It is so much more accurate. It is not easy to use and I got used to it within a day. There are tons of ways you can program the buttons to meet your personal needs. It has sped up my work flow and has made the process so much better. I would not hestitate to buy one becuase it is well worth the money! The small size is actually perfect. it is actually almost the size of my 15 mac (smaller though). I do have a PC and use it on the PC every now and then but it seems to have problems on the PC. Works much better on my MAC.

I bought this to upgrade from a Wacom Bamboo Capture. The Bamboo is quite good but this tablet us awesome. Buttery touch commands and the pen gives you great control. The increase in sensitivity levels gives much better finite control in my photo retouching. I am far from being an artist but can see where it would give great control for painting. How many of us can afford or justify a $ cintique? Once you spend a few days with this to master the learning curve you will never want to use a mouse again, very quick and responsive. This model includes the wireless kit, I have not had a chance to use it as yet but other reviewers say it is quite slick. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Comments about Wacom Intuos Pro Professional Pen & Touch Tablet (Black, Small):

This thing is incredible, right away it has made Photoshop a thousand times easier! The pen and brush tools are no longer a tedious chore, in fact they are becoming my most favorite tools now. Installation was quick and trouble free on my mac mini; learning to use the pen is an over statement for the most part. Some thing will take some getting used to and customizing the function button and pen setting will likely change often as my workflow evolves with the use of the tablet, but that is not a problem with the easily customizable interface. This is the greatest addition to my post shoot tool chest!

I purchased a Wacom Bamboo4 years ago and just found it difficult to use. A few years later I found myself doing a lot of editing in Photoshop and the mouse just wasn't cutting the mustard. There is no finesse with a mouse. I picked up the Bamboo and realized the tablet is the future for serious editing. I forced myself to use it for a week and it clicked. Next step, get the pro version. I love the Intuos Pro. All the shortcuts at my fingertips and the pen is so much more responsive. I went with the small based on recommendation from an All Star pro retoucher. Glad I did, it's the perfect size. Setting up the pen and the tablet was far easier than the reviews here indicate. It took me 10 minutes to initially set it up. I've changed the settings since and may make a few more changes until I get exactly what I want. No problem, it only takes a minute to open the dashboard and switch. The wireless function is nice also. Get one!

At first, everything felt a bit foreign but the more you use it the more it becomes second nature. So with that said I am really starting to see the huge benefit to using this tablet in Photoshop. The pen technology is simply amazing.

Comments about Wacom Intuos Pro Professional Pen & Touch Tablet (Black, Small):

A great high-quality product once you get it installed. It did not auto-install the driver in Win 7 when the USB connector was plugged in as described in the quick menu. I had to manually install the driver using the provided disk. After that minor annoyance, I found it to be a super tool, very programmable/customizable for command menus which greatly reduces the need for keyboard inputs. It is also easily convertible to left-hand use. I've used an older Intuos2 in the past, so transitioning to the tablet was not a big issue. I really like the smaller size - it's very convenient to use in your lap (especially with it's wireless feature), fits well on the desktop next to keyboard, and requires less hand movement. The wireless feature has worked very well for me and has not presented any problems. It is perfect for Photoshop, Lightroom, CAD work, general-purpose use & web navigation. I rarely use the mouse, although I do sometimes miss the scroll wheel. To say the least, I'm extremely happy with the purchase of this tablet.

I bought this tablet so that I could be more accurate using Photoshop. The small size was the right one for me to buy, it's really not that small. There is definitely a learning curve but so far I am sticking with it. I watched a few tutorials and had no problems setting the product up. The buttons on the pen and tablet are customizable giving you lots of shortcuts to items that you use often. So far, I like using it but still miss the mouse - I am still not totally used to it. (It has been about two weeks.) I have not found it to be a help to me in Photoshop yet, I am hoping that will come with practice.
