The CapturePRO Camera Clip from Peak Design is a camera holstering system that securely holds your camera without the traditional camera strap. The system is made up of a clip and an ARCAplate quick release plate, which together can support up to 200 lb. The quick release plate is compatible with all Arca-type clamps. The clip can attach to any backpack strap, bag or belt less than 3" wide. It is ideal for photographers who need their hands free and also need instant access to their camera. The CapturePRO can also be mounted directly to a tripod or monopod and be used as a quick release clamp.

To use the system, attach the quick release plate to your camera, clamp the clip around a strap or belt and secure in place by tightening the two hand-tightened bolts. Your camera slides into the clip, locks in place, and will not detach until you push the quick release button to release it from the clip.

The CapturePRO comes with a 4mm hex wrench for securely installing your plate on the camera, and a microfiber pouch for storing your clip when it is not in use.

A safety lock can be activated by turning the release button, preventing accidental release and theft.
Loops on the quick release plate allow you to use a hand strap and CapturePRO together.
The quick release plate features a load-bearing D-ring screw that is compatible with sling-style straps.
Injection-molded rubber pads on the quick release plates mold to the bottom of your camera and prevent your camera from twisting during use.
A plate locking-knob tightens down onto the plate for extra rigidity and for point-of-view video.
Your camera can lock into the CapturePRO in multiple directions allowing you to easily change lenses.
All parts are made of corrosion resistant and weatherproof materials.

My wife and I recently took up backpacking. I've been looking for a camera carrying solution. My goal is to not have to drop the pack in order to pull the camera out. I want quick access. At first I tried a top loading chest pack After several trips using the chest pack I started looking for something else. It was too heavy and bulky for backpacking on the Appalachian Trail. It blocked the view of my feet on the trail which didn't feel safe. After hearing a recommendation on a popular podcast I decided to give the CapturePro a try. I've used it once so far and was very pleased with the results. It was 12 mile hike on fairly easy terrain. The elevation changes weren't too crazy. I purchased to longer screws so the CapturePro would clamp to the thick straps of my backpack. My camera was a Canon 7D with a Tokina 11mm-14mm. The camera felt secure the whole time. I was sure to listen for the "click" and moved it back and forth to make certain it was locked. The back plate is contoured slightly and didn't dig into my shoulder or chest. It even felt good with the Canon EF 70-200mm F2/8 IS II which is heavy, but that might have to do the thick straps on my backpack. Moving the camera off to the side allowed for a safer view of the trail and my feet as I scurried about. The Arca style plate attached well to my BHD0 ball head. One thing I noticed was scratches on the paint and machined surface. It doesn't bother me in terms of looks, but I'm concerned that over time the surfaces might wear too much.

If you are considering Capture Pro --think twice if you have a heavy camera! Even with their [$] add on called Propad (meant to add more stability) it did NOT work for me. In fact it pretty much sucked! And I'm out [$]+ dollars for something I won't use. You'll likely find any camera that uses a 2 battery add on pack is going to be too heavy for this sad little appliance. Not to mention the added heft added of a decent zoom lens. Really disappointing for all the hype and promoting... Buyer beware. ........

Comments about Peak Design CapturePRO Camera Clip with ARCAplate:

This clip is so secure I am going to keep it in spite of it not being perfect for me.First I have a larger camera (7D). It looks a bit awkward on a backpack strap where a smaller camera would not (Rebel). But is it SO COMFORTABLE I think I can get past that.My camera feels safe for when I need hands free and it was unbelievable that it took virtually no practice to be handy at taking my camera on and off the clip.Second, it is going to be pretty good on my backpack waist strap and I am considering getting a "photo belt" because it seems like it is going to work well that way also. The drawback with it on the waist belt is the "i've got a camera and I know how to use it" impression. For the "professional photographer" this would be absolutely no issue. But for me this is something I try to be aware of.Third, it is really, really hard to get on a backpack strap. To the point of calling peak design and asking if I needed the longer screws. They advised me to keep the ones I have and assured me that I could get it to work. I believe they are right, but this will take a lot of practice before it is easy. And the instructions are not the best at describing how it all goes together. Once you get it on it is worth it.These things gave me some pause as to keeping it. But I'm going to go ahead with it because it is the best option yet.Note: it says it will work to connect a Black Rapid strap. It does work, but is really tedious and the strap has to be unsnapped from the camera to put it in the clip. This was disappointing. On the positive side the camera seems to be really secure and it is really easy to take on and off the clip.

I use the CapturePRO every time I use the camera. No exceptions.
Its practicality is superb. Finally it is not a pain to carry your camera around and you have it always ready, extremely easy, when your eye stops on a subject you want to converted into an interesting picture. I ride my motorcycle carrying my camera with it...... can you imagine? Congratulation to the young engineer who design it.......
He needs now to design a similar clip to carry at least two lenses on your waist belt........

Comments about Peak Design CapturePRO Camera Clip with ARCAplate:

I have a CarrySpeed strap that is great for camera accessibility but when hiking the camera would be everywhere, including at risk to hit a rock.

With this clip on my belt it works great to secure the camera while hiking and getting up and down embankments for water shots.

I've yet to try it on my pack since my favored backpack strap is too wide to accommodate it.

Comments about Peak Design CapturePRO Camera Clip with ARCAplate:

I had been looking for a solution for carrying my camera with me while hiking that kept it readily accessible but didn't risk me banging the camera into anything. I had used a black rapid strap to keep it handy, but found it swinging around too much for my comfort.

The Capture clip allows me to attach the camera to the shoulder strap of my backpack, keeping it accessible and secure. I can keep it up high so even when scrambling over rocks, I don't have to worry about it banging into anything. It also keeps the camera from swinging around at all. I bought the Pro Pad as well so I had extra padding and the longer screws to allow it to go on a thick backpack strap.

I also love that the plate doubles as a tripod quick release plate and the finger loop on the tightening screw allows the plate to stay on while attaching a black rapid strap. This all means it works with all my support gear and the plate never has to leave the camera, which means you'll never lose it.

Overall this is a great product that I am glad I found and look forward to trying out in other situations as well.

I was hesitant at first. I always had a L bracket on my Canon 6D. And this would require removing that. But after a bunch of hiking, I found that the strap I was using wasn't going to cut it. The camera swayed too much. So on more difficult trails I was torn between risking damaging the camera (hitting rocks, etc) and putting it away. But with this clip, I can keep it solid on my shoulder, where it won't sway. It's at a moments notice when I need it, but secure when I don't.

Comments about Peak Design CapturePRO Camera Clip with ARCAplate:

I didn't know this existed until a couple weeks ago and I'm not sure how I came across it, but it was perfect timing. I was putting together a new backpack for my camera equipment and did not want a backpack that was dedicated to camera equipment. I came across the CapturePro Camera Clip as I was searching for something that would make my camera easily accessible using a backpack, but leave my hands completely free. I always felt that with the camera hanging from my neckstrap, I still needed a hand on it to prevent it from bouncing around. I just got back from a trip to Savannah, GA and Disney World. Lots of walking around and I used this clip everyday. So happy I came across it as it worked perfectly! I'm using it on a 5.11 All Hazards Nitro backpack. The straps have thick padding and I used a clamp to get the clip secured to the strap. Screws about a 1/4" longer could be used, but I got enough bite on the ones supplied that I wasn't worried about it. I did not use the safety during my trip, which is activated by turning the red button 90 degrees so its shape prevents it from being pressed in. I didn't feel like I needed to use it, the camera was very secure on the clip and requires a very deliberate press on the release button to remove the camera. Plus there is a stop in the downward direction, so even if the release was pressed the camera still needs to be removed by lifting up. I also like how it is an ARCA plate as that is what my tripod uses, so it was very convenient to remove it from the clip and place on the tripod. I used my camera more this trip since I did not have to pull it out of my sling bag. Simply just press the red release button, remove the camera, take the pic, re-holster. I leave it on my bag all the time and look forward to using it for many more trips and hikes.

Comments about Peak Design CapturePRO Camera Clip with ARCAplate:

I like to hike with a camera, this makes it so much easier. I've clipped it on my belt or shoulder straps and it works flawlessly. Very easy to use. Also a use a glidecam Hd-2000 and this works perfectly as a quick release while allowing me to use the arca-style plate quickly in other applications. Wonderful product - wish I had invented it!

Comments about Peak Design CapturePRO Camera Clip with ARCAplate:

I bought the clip to take the strain off from hours of suspending the D3200 around my neck, it did a great job. I like that this clip can go an a belt, bag strap or pack strap. I wore it on my belt and found the camera easily accessable, not moving around excessively while I was walking and always felt securely mounted. The camera was easily removed and put in a bag and the clip was not overly visable to indicate I was carrying potentially attractive items that would make me a target. There may be cheaper versions of this on the market but this one is well constructed, sturdy (all metal)light weight and looks like it will give many years of service. It is a good design, read the tips in the product guide as to where/how to mount for right/left hand use and it will feel natural to mount & unmount the camera...making it easy to get used to.

Comments about Peak Design CapturePRO Camera Clip with ARCAplate:

I must say that I was very excited to receive my capture clip, but a little disappointed in the application of the product. To be fair it is a very well built, solid and smooth operating product and does just what it claims it will do. But I don't think the designers had bigger cameras in mind for this product when it was conceived. Large cameras carry a considerable amount of weight, so when I wore the clip on my belt and attached my Nikon D300s w/battery grip to it, It pulled down on the belt so much that it was uncomfortable to ware no matter how I positioned the clip. So as good as this product is I think it is made more for smaller DSLR's and cameras in general. There is a little spring under the screw that attaches the clip to the camera bottom, it sprung out of it's groove after the first finger tightening. I haven't been able to place it back in the groove yet, but it doesn't seem to affect it's performance much.

Use mostly when hiking and for urban photography

Very secure hold on camera once the shoe is in the plate. However getting it in the plate while walking with a grip strap on the plate is a bit difficult. Found that using a bit of firearm lubricant on the shoe and plate make holstering and upholstering easier. Not as smooth as the spider but feels more secure.

Works as described. I used one hiking around southern Utah and riding my bicycle with it mounted on my backpack strap. Keeps your camera easily accessible but out of the way while freeing your hands for other things. Holds your camera securely and saves the weight on your neck or shoulder.
