The Pavilion 14-q070nr 14" Chromebook from HP is designed for a Web-optimized experience. With a minimalist snow white finish and a more user-friendly interface than traditional notebook computers, this HP Chromebook features a unique computing experience enhanced by the Internet.

While most Chromebooks have screens ranging between 10" to 12", this HP Chromebook has a larger 14" BrightView LED-backlit display. The screen has a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 1366 x 768 native resolution, which is powered by integrated Intel HD Graphics. Its resolution can support native 720p HD video playback without upscaling. There's also an HDMI port so you'll be able to output video to a larger external display, such as an HDTV.

The system is powered by a dual-core 1.4GHz Intel Celeron 2955U processor. It also has 4GB of 1600MHz DDR3L RAM, a 16GB solid state drive, a multi-format Secure Digital media card reader, 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, mobile broadband ready, and integrated webcam and microphone. There are also built-in stereo speakers.

Google Chrome OS is a Linux-based operating system designed by Google to work exclusively with web applications. This HP Chromebook combines the aspects of a pure cloud client with the hardware of a traditional portable computer, which puts it in its very own class of netbook and notebook computers.

Please note that in order to take full advantage of Chrome OS, you will need to be connected to the Internet. The HP Chromebook comes with free mobile Internet for up to 200MB a month for two years. The service is provided by T-Mobile. If you require more data, you can sign up with T-Mobile for one of their data plans, which are sold separately.

Chrome OS
Using Linux as a base, Google designed Chrome OS to work exclusively with web applications. The user interface takes a minimalist approach, which greatly resembles the Google Chrome web browser. Chrome OS was built for people who spend a majority, if not all, of their time on the computer connected to the Internet. The only application that comes installed on Chrome OS is a special Google Chrome web browser with an integrated media player and file manager. All other applications are accessed by adding apps from the Google Chrome Web Store. Since Chrome OS relies entirely on Google's web apps and access to Google's services, it is highly recommended that you connect to the Internet to optimize your Chrome OS experience
Wireless Connectivity
Internet access is very important to the functionality of Chrome OS. That's why the HP Chromebook offers 802.11a/b/g/n wireless connectivity so you'll have no trouble connecting to wireless networks. This HP Chromebook also has a HP cr3124 HSPA+ Mobile Broadband module, which supports cellular data. Please note that a data plan is required to use mobile broadband and it is sold separately
14" BrightView LED-Backlit Display
The HP Chromebook boasts a 14" HD BrightView LED-backlit display. The screen features a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 1366 x 768 native resolution, powered by integrated Intel HD Graphics. With native support for 720p HD video playback, the HDMI port allows you to output high-definition video to a larger external display, such as an HDTV
Dual-Core Intel Celeron Performance
The HP Chromebook houses an Intel Celeron 2955U processor. Its dual cores can reach a stock speed of 1.4 GHz. With a dedicated 2MB L3 cache and 4GB of 1600MHz DDR3L RAM, the HP Chromebook provides reliable performance
Compact Design
Just because this HP Chromebook has a larger screen than other Chromebooks doesn't mean it can't be just as portable. Measuring 0.81" thin and weighing just over 4 pounds, this HP Chromebook features a HP satin sparkle imprint finish in a snow white color for a compact and stylish design
Automatic Updates
The HP Chromebook is fast to use and doesn't slow down over time. It comes with built-in virus protection so you don't need to buy or install antivirus software. They come with apps for all your everyday needs and keep your files safely backed up in the cloud
Fast Boot Up and Resume Times
The HP Chromebook boots up quickly as well as resumes instantly from where you left off, thanks to its 16GB solid-state drive

Comments about HP Pavilion 14-q070nr 14" Chromebook (Mobile Broadband, Snow White):

Bought for my spouse who is a home school teacher to our kids. She had a large laptop but the kids were always taking it. After realizing how heavy the laptop was we came to the conclusion that we didn't need such a large laptop. The chromebook is quick and very responsive for email and web content. Just don't expected to run any of your programs. This is a web based system only. Good $ for the money.

Comments about HP Pavilion 14-q070nr 14" Chromebook (Mobile Broadband, Snow White):

It's not a PC, but that's AOK with me. I can still share documents with GoogleDocs and Dropbox, and edit documents created in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

The set of apps is very extensive. Its battery life gets me through the whole day, and it charges quickly.

The most amazing thing, however, is that you turn it on and see the login screen in 3 seconds flat.

          Wow!

Comments about HP Pavilion 14-q070nr 14" Chromebook (Mobile Broadband, Snow White):

My old Win XP desktop died and the cost for the repair was about the same as a Chromebook. I went for the larger 14". Since it is all web based, I needed to change my workflow, but having used Google Drive on the desktop machine, it was easy to get at my files. Quality of the product seems good and the 3 USB ports allow a keyboard, mouse and thumb drive. The surprise was that printing can only be done with a wireless printer hooked to the web. I had a wireless printer, but it still took some learning to get it set up on the web. Printing is a bit delayed because of the transmission delay. The surprise was I couldn't just use a USB port because you can't load a printer driver on the Chromebook. So far everything is working well, but I still have a windows Vista laptop available just in case (like when setting up the web printer). Extremely quick delivery from B&H.

Comments about HP Pavilion 14-q070nr 14" Chromebook (Mobile Broadband, Snow White):

If I could rate components individually, I would rate the Chromebook hardware as 5. Tech support for both HP and T-Mobile as 1, and T-Mobile service as 2-3 because their coverage is poor in my area. First the hardware. I selected this model largely because the 14 inch screen is big enough for my tired eyes to see easily. No one else currently makes a screen larger than 11 inches. A lot of the Chromebook detractors don't seem to understand that Chrome is its own operating system. It is NOT Windows. So therefore it will not run Office, or any other Microsoft product. However, Google has done a good job of coming up with alternative apps for most anything you need. Google Docs for instance will open a Word Doc if you happen to get one as an email attachment. Same for Google's version of Excel and PowerPoint. No, they are not exactly the same, but they are close enough for most ordinary uses. So if your need for a small lightweight laptop is to check email, Facebook, and read some news websites, the Chromebook performs well at about half the cost of a Windows machine. Now to the data service portion of this review. My machine has both WiFi and Broadband capabilities. I really do not plan to use it in Broadband mode very much, but thought was that if I was travelling and was in a motel or airport without free WiFi, I would switch over to Broadband for the duration. The "free" data plan that comes with the unit is a low data volume plan, but it would suffice for occasional use. The data plan comes from T-Mobile and is supposed to work right out of the box. On initial startup, I could get the WiFi to work fine, but could not get a T-Mobile signal. I assumed this was because I live in a rural area with no coverage. I then took the machine to a nearby town of 150,000 population. Surely, I would get a T-Mobile signal there. Nothing. I emailed HP Tech Support. All I got back were links to Knowledge Base articles that I had already read and tried. Then they said call T-Mobile's Activation line. All they could do is try to sell me a new Data Plan.(Bare with me….keep reading) Frustrated, but determined to crack this puzzle, I decided to visit a T-Mobile retail store to see if they could somehow "read" the data on the SIM chip in the computer. Turns out the only T-Mobile retail store in the whole state is in the capital city, over 2 hours away. Fortunately, I had reason to be in the capital city recently, so I found a T-Mobile store and told the young man there my story. He was very helpful, and although he did not know the exact answer to my dilemma, we tried several things together, and when I mentioned that I actually lived over 2 hours away, he said he knew that T-Mobile did not have any T-Mobile owned cell towers in that area, but they have coverage through local partner affiliates. Could that be the problem? So we just fired up the machine in the store there, and it almost instantly came up with "found T-Mobile signal...do you want to connect?" "Why certainly," I said. From there it went to the usual registration screens where you fill in name, address, etc. The only hickup there, was that it would not accept my zip code. Odd, we thought. The young man said, "Try a local Zip code." It took it. After the initial activation, the unit worked fine in the Capital city. And when I got back to my home, it did work in my nearby city where there was T-Mobile Partner coverage.So….moral of story, (and thanks for reading this far) To activate the T-Mobile Data Plan, make sure you are in an area serviced by an actual T-Mobile owned cell tower FOR THE INITIAL ACTIVATION. After that, you should be able to get coverage on their partner affiliates. Also, when you fill out the registration pages, make sure you use a ZIP code that is local for the particular T-Mobile tower. You will be sent information on how to manage your account, and you can update your Zip code later. All in all, the Chromebook does exactly what I want at a very economical cost.

It always depends on what your looking for, but, a computer like this can fill all your needs. You may have to rethink how you do things, but it can do it. I have moved most of my digital life to clouds anyway, so the transition has been pretty easy. Of course, if you are new to the cloud, you will need time to adjust. Microsoft has Word and other office software in the cloud, so that is not a problem. Your music, no matter if it's from itunes or [*], will be cloud based, so that's not a problem. Your pictures should not be stored on your hard drives anyway, so you should already have them in the cloud...right? You are not buying this if you are producing videos or burning dvds. That's not what this computer is about. Just make a list of what you need a computer for, and you will discover you don't need a windows 8 machine or a mac to get your daily computer chores done. No operating system to crash, no learning curve. Just flip it open and start searching. That's it. Chrome has a ton of add ons for your browser as well, so, you have plenty to do. You will need a cloud based printer to make things easy on you. You can use older printers, but you will need to set them up a little differently. Just bought an hp printer for $80. Small price to pay to get away from a Windows computer.

I use a lot of google services, and I pretty much have wifi anywhere in the city, so I like "working in the cloud". I don't need to use any specific installed software, so chromebooks are perfect for me. Amazing value for the build quality and performance. Docs, draw, sheets (now editable offline), gmail, g+, calendar, playstore, youtube... all done on this machine. Haswell celeron + 4gig ram can handle anything on the web. Thought weight would be a dealbreaker, but it's not that bad. Screen quality is fine. Battery life is 8-9 hrs. Aesthetics are a nice clean white. Keyboard is okay, would prefer a bit more travel time on keystrokes, but I think this is because I don't use chiclet style keyboards that often. Boot time seems to be around 5 seconds. ChromeOS is getting better all the time, and is upgraded often - usually with a 5 second reboot. Offline apps/chrome store is improving constantly as well.

Perfect for surfing the web. Note: It cannot edit Word or Excel docs, it's just for surfing and streaming directly from the web! It can't even reliably play movies off a USB stick unless you first load the movie to your Google drive, which can take forever. You can use Google docs to create and save your own notes. The keyboard is not lit, which is my only real criticism of the product. But I'd purchase it again !
