The dark red C Digital Camera from Leica is a stylish, high performance compact camera with a 1/1.7" 12.1MP MOS sensor and a Leica DC-Vario-Summicron lens. The lens is a 7x optical zoom with a 35mm format equivalency of 28-200mm, which enables a comprehensive range of focal lengths from true wide-angle to telephoto. An additional 4x digital zoom is supported for extra reach. With optical image stabilization and a fast maximum aperture of f/2 at the wide-angle end, the Leica C provides effective low-light capability and its easy-to-use interface makes it a versatile everyday camera. Fast autofocus, 10 fps continuous shooting, and manual exposure control provide high-end capabilities, making it easy to shoot in difficult lighting and capture fast-moving subjects.

A 3.0" TFT Color LCD monitor provides composition and playback viewing with 921k-dot resolution and an electronic viewfinder with 200k-dot resolution and +/-4 diopter adjustment allows stable, eye-level composition. A programmable focusing ring enables fast and intuitive control of various camera settings including manual focus.

The Leica C is the first Leica to feature built-in Wi-Fi and an NFC (Near Field Communication) module for easy connectivity. With the free Leica C Image Shuttle app you can utilize the Wi-Fi connection to instantly download images to your smartphone or tablet and then share them on social media sites. In addition, the Wi-Fi connection and app allow you to use your smart device as a remote control for the camera, adjusting aperture, shutter speed, zoom, focus, video and several other functions, including shutter release.

Full HD 1080 video is provided in both the AVCHD and MP4 formats and a built-in stereo microphone is also supported. The Leica C is a sleek and handsome compact camera that is compatible with numerous elegant and practical accessories, including several new camera cases and pouches.

As much as I love my big cameras, I can't really carry any of them with me 24/7...and that's where the little Panasonic LX5 used to come in. The main problem was that it was not exactly "pocketable" (even less so with the EVF attached) but more of a "big coat pocket camera". My venerable LX5 had seen a lot of use and was getting a bit long-in-the-tooth. I'd been looking for a replacement and had been looking carefully at the Panasonic LX7 and, when it was introduced a few months ago, the Panasonic LF1. At the time, the most striking thing about the LF1 was the reach it had for something that size - 28mm-200mm (full-frame equivalent)!

When Leica announced their version of the LF1 recently for a reasonable $200 mark-up, it was a no-brainer as the body style was much nicer and I needed another copy of Lightroom 5 (which is normally about $150 by itself). Plus, I preferred a warranty through Leica rather than Panasonic as they've been so very helpful over the years with my M8, M9 and M lenses, often going that extra mile for me.

I've been absolutely loving the C! In my opinion it is certainly a step up from the LX5 in terms of telephoto reach and photo quality. It's no M9 obviously but, turned off with its lens collapsed, it is exceedingly tiny and really can live in my pants pocket 24/7. Being able to tether it to a tablet or phone is also a welcome bit of utility.

I love the macro capabilities, the decent low-light ability, the RAW file capability and the presence of a EVF on something this tiny. For what it's worth, the EVF won't win any prizes but it certainly does the job in bright light and that's all I need it for.

This is a camera that you can always have with you and it's capable of stunning, high quality images, especially if you shoot in RAW format.

I have been using Leicas since I was a young man. My dad had a IIIF STRD. That is what I learned photography on.
Now it is a Point and Shoot. I give you that. I believe all of these Point and Shoots are made by Panasonic. It will save you hundreds to buy the original manufactures camera and not the rebranded Leica one.
Cons: The WIFI feature is sporatic. Will not stay connected. While toe reaction time to take an image is not that great. the sensor does take nice images, very color saturated contrasty images.
Plus features: good battery life. Nice images if you hold the camera very still. It also has a horizon indicator in it.

I am going to contact Leica service and ask them to make good on the Wifi feature. This camera was a gift for my wife, so I picked it because we have REAL Leica cameras and Binos here at the house and it is cute in its pale gold color.

Comments about C Digital Camera (Dark Red):

Family revolted against me taking my Canon 5DmkII and lens kit to Disneyland. So, I looked at reviews and image samples of point and shoots from various manufacturers. The Leica C kept coming to the top. So i bought it and recieved it 2 days before we left. I just shot and did not have time to read the manual but just dug into the menus. THere is a fully auto mode where you can set it to that and hand it to someone and they can just take great pix. I got into the program mode where you have a bit more control as well as the manual mode. I also set it to recrod RAW as well as JPGs. I also took lots of 1080p video. End result? This will now be my family travel camera 95% of the time. Because of this, i am looking at Leica a lot more seriously now. I still will need to do my 5d2 with my 17mm t/s and 24-70 for specific projects, but i am really liking the freedom this very smll camera gives me. The out of the box JPGs are not bad at all either. Note: if you are not afraid to dig into tech, then this camera will be a good fit for most.
i used a sandisk 32GB class 10 card and off-loaded video each night. I also own an Ankor 13,000mwh UBS battery that i was able to keep the camera charged up on the fly so i cant comment on the battery life.
overall, i took about 1400 pix and about 4 hours of video. slight shutter lag ... very very slight ... faster than most other PAS cameras.
I did a lot of after the fact research on the Leica Digital Rangefinder with an attached TTL electronic viewfinder and 35mm 1.4 lens. - i'd have to take out a mortgage for this but this is now a dream in the future.

Comments about C Digital Camera (Dark Red):

The Leica C, together with the Leica C case, is a terrific system. I spent many months comparing various very small, good quality cameras. This Leica system is easily pocketable, uniquely elegant and boasts many features so that you will want to take it with you wherever you go. Unlike other cameras, Leica has put a lot of thought as to how a camera and a case should work together as a team so that you will actually use it. In addition, I wanted a travel camera with a usable viewfinder, manual controls (if necessary) such as adjustable aperature and shutter speed so that my brain will be engaged in the photographic process, a good quality warranty, and finally, a camera that might have some future trade in value. As a long term value, Leica wins, hands down. Oh, it also takes great photos!

I wanted a camera to replace my Nikon D70 to recorded better images as well as be smaller. Smaller has turned into tiny! I love it anyway. It takes the most fantastic photographs. The controls are simple but also allows for setting up any situation. It is a joy to use.

Comments about C Digital Camera (Dark Red):

A fantastic point and shoot. Of course expensive but that's what you pay for the red dot. I know this is basically a panasonic camera at its core, but I decided to plonk the extra $$$ for the brand and the prestige that comes with owning a Leica. I love the pics it has taken so far. I am not a natural, and even in my hand it takes great pics. All conditions. Lightweight and easy to cart around. Plus transfering pics to the phone is a breeze through built in Wifi.

Comments about C Digital Camera (Dark Red):

My wife and I will be traveling to France in two months. Having been several times, and each trip carrying my large DSLR (Nikon D90, Nikon D7000), I wanted this trip to be less of a tourist and more of a casual, relaxed visitor. So, without the full gear, I still hope to get some nice pictures.I researched and decided to try the Leica C. It has an incredible optical zoom, although I worry about camera shake at distances, and a sleek, user-friendly design. It also has a nifty Wifi feature - I can create an ad hoc network connection between my phone and the camera using the NFC chips in each device. Then I can both transfer images from the camera to the phone, and even more impressively, control the camera using the phone. For example, using a tripod, I can set a shot while standing meters away and trigger the shutter. This is a fun feature, but we'll see how practical when we get to Paris. It also has a feature I had never seen before, which is a wheel circling the lens that can be used to control various features, depending on which mode the camera is in at the time. In automatic mode, it serves as a step-zoom; in other modes it can do the manual focus, or apply various effects. It's positioned in a very handy place if you need to make changes while shooting without looking down or fiddling with the buttons on the back of the unit.Basically this is my first Leica and so far I am pleased.Drawbacks - a unique power/connection cable. I would have liked a more standardized format (micro-USB, for example). No external charger available for a spare battery - you have to put the battery in the camera and plug the camera in. (I may be wrong about this, but this is what I have found.)

I have found this to be an exceptional compact camera. The the sensor renders great pictures in just about any condition - indoors or out, sunny or shady. The lens is top notch. I usually run my photos thru Photoshop to adjust, exposure, color, etc. but have found very little tweeking is needed. I this is based on a Panasonic, but I have not regretted this purchase.

I have not had a lot of time to fully put this little guy to the test, but so far, I'm impressed. After reading many reviews on a lot of its competitors, I decided to finally spend the extra $ and get the Leica. Glad I did. Great smaller size that actually fits in your pocket; solid build; image quality seems top notch; stylish design; and it actually has a view finder. Not the best in the world, but just having one on something this size is nice. Now just excited to see how well it performs in various situations.

Comments about C Digital Camera (Light Gold):

Just returned from Machu Picchu and The Galapagos where the Leica C performed exactly as advertised by both Leica and B&H Photo Video. Unsurpassed when traveling to out of the way places by difficult conveyance where carrying a 35mm digital camera body and various lenses would be both cumbersome and impractical for all but the most seasoned professional photographers.
The camera features significantly surpass my prior Lumix LX-3 and LX-5, especially the 28mm to 200mm true optical zoom..I have not used the video feature yet! I am completely delighted with the quality of the images, the ease of using aperture or shutter speed preference, the endurance of the Li-ion battery. The leather case is perfect for traveling in all but pouring down rain.

I finally moved away from lugging my canon 5D III around, and switched to the Canon M mirror less which I love, but its not pocketable and lack of dedicated lenses in the line up yet had me looking for something more versatile. The Leica C has me floored. The IQ is outstanding, ease of use, a VIEWFINDER!!!!!! I take it everywhere and the the reach to 200mm on something this small while still keeping the IQ is awesome.. I tried the panny LF1 but i personally see a lot of differences in the imaging of the Leica C. I didn't think i would ever find the perfect travel go anywhere P&S, never loved the images from and of my Canon G or S series while both were very good they always left me wanting more….The Leica C finally lets me travel light without compromise or leaving me wishing i had lugged my DSLR.. The wifi both for file transfer as well as remote control is first rate, allowing the ability to recognize and connect quickly to iPhone, iPad and my macbook...Great Job Leica…..Worth every Penny!!!!! I do highly recommend the expensive but great case which BHP finally has in stock, and a few extra power/down load cords i picked up nikons at BHP for[$] so i have one in my car, home office and knapsack, the ability to charge the camera direct from a cell phone back up battery like a mophie is a huge plus to guarantee always being able to shoot.. I also picked up spare LF1 battery and off camera charger, but have no tended to use them.

Comments about C Digital Camera (Dark Red):

I use it as a supplementary camera to carry with me wherever I go. It fits in my pocket just as easily as my iPhone, but captures images in a far superior way the iPhone. It's very simple to operate, the flash works just fine for its intended range. the zoom is quick and easy. I don't use this camera in low light without its flash...if I ever anticipate low light shooting, I'd use a different camera which is suited for that type of shooting (i.e. the Leica M 240).

I prefer working with RAW files in LR and PS, and avoid taking JPEGS whenever possible for that reason. This is another reason why I enjoy using the C, it takes RAW images that are quite malleable in post production.

And, most importantly, you're taking photos with a Leica lens, which are the finest lenses made in the world. While it's not a full frame Leica, the images still have that natural look with excellent contrast that only Leica lenses give you.

The one thing about this camera I'd like to improve is the resolution of the EVF and the LVF. They are adequate, but don't seem to be up to the quality of a Sony or Olympus compact point and shoot in this price range.

Comments about C Digital Camera (Dark Red):

Comments about C Digital Camera (Light Gold):

Just started using it and still have to put it thtough it's paces. The Viewfinder is one of the reasons I purchased this model over Nikon's & Canon's. It's small size makes it very pocketable.
