The Nikon D5200 Digital SLR Camera with 18-140mm VR DX Lens combines a DX-format camera and an all-in-one 18-140mm zoom lens for shooting high-quality photos in various situations. With the camera's 24.1MP DX-format CMOS sensor and EXPEED 3 image processor, this setup provides images with accurate colors and sharp details. The camera also features a continuous shooting speed of 5 frames per second and a sensitivity of up to 25,600 ISO, allowing for sharp images with minimal noise in low-light conditions.

A 39-point autofocus system enables the D5200 to acquire precise focus quickly across the image frame, and nine cross-type points are centrally located for increased accuracy with more critical subject matter. In regard to exposure, a 2,016-pixel RGB sensor is utilized by Nikon's Scene Recognition System to analyze both color and brightness values within a scene to best determine exposure, white balance, i-TTL, and focus settings.

HD video recording is supported in multiple frame rates and formats up to full HD 1920 x 1080 at 60 fps. Manual exposure control is possible during recording by modifying the shutter speed or ISO settings. Audio can be recorded using the built-in stereo microphone or through the use of an optional external microphone, both of which feature 20 levels of manual adjustment.

Image playback and live view monitoring is possible with the 3.0" 921k-dot LCD monitor, which features tilt and swivel capabilities for better use at high or low angles. For eye-level viewing, a pentamirror optical viewfinder is built in for viewing and composing scenes quickly and intuitively.

The D5200 features a variety of built-in imaging technologies, such as Active D-Lighting and HDR capabilities, to further enhance the look of your imagery while shooting. For instantly sharing your photos and video, the D5200 is compatible with the optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter for wirelessly connecting your camera to an Android or iOS mobile device.

The camera works with all Nikon F-mount lenses, both FX and DX-format. Included in this kit is the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Lens. This is an all-in-one zoom lens capable of shooting from wide-angle to telephoto images. It is compatible with DX-format cameras and features an extra-low dispersion (ED) glass element and an aspherical element. These optics improve edge sharpness and correct chromatic and geometric distortions. Additionally, it features Nikon's Silent Wave Motor (SWM) autofocus for fast, accurate focusing and Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization.

Imaging Technology
At the heart of the D5200 is a 24.1-megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor and the EXPEED 3 image processor. The combination of these two technologies enables high resolution imagery with great detail and quality. The power and speed afforded by the image processor also provides high ISO performance up to an expandable range of 100-25600. Noise reduction technologies are employed during use to help render low-light photography with the utmost sharpness and clarity.
39-Point Autofocus System
A 39-point autofocus system, with nine cross-type sensors, is employed to acquire precise focus quickly and easily. The AF system is equally effective with both still and moving subjects and utilizes a unique 3D tracking system to detect and memorize the color of your subject to effectively track its movements.
2,016-Pixel RGB Sensor and Scene Recognition System
The Scene Recognition System paired with a 2,016-pixel RGB sensor is able to analyze color and brightness information within a scene to automatically determine precise exposure, i-TTL flash, white balance, and focus settings. By analyzing both color and overall brightness, imagery appears more naturally-rendered and detailed compared to purely measuring brightness values.
High Continuous Shooting Rates
The D5200 is capable of capturing full-resolution still images at a continuous rate of 5 fps. This speed affords you the ability to easily track moving subjects or record fast-paced events. The optical viewfinder benefits this shooting speed by allowing you to more instinctively pan with your moving subject, whereas shooting in live view will render the shooting nearly silent for more discreet applications.
Vari-Angle LCD Monitor
The 3.0" LCD monitor features a vari-angle design, which allows you to tilt and swivel the monitor to better suit shooting from high or low angles. Its 921k-dot resolution provides high definition quality for more precise monitoring and image review. The menu navigation has also been simplified from past models, providing a more intuitive system for navigating through different camera functions. Additionally, three background color choices are available: black, brown, and blue.
Full HD Movie Recording
The D5200 is able to capture Full HD video up to 1920 x 1080 with multiple frame rates up to 60i/50i. The vari-angle LCD monitor is well-suited to video monitoring and provides a natural method for composing scenes and following moving subjects. The HDMI type-C output allows you to connect your camera to HD displays for movie playback.

When working in manual mode while recording movies, exposure can be easily controlled by modifying the shutter speed and ISO settings. Continuous auto focusing is possible while recording when working in the full-time-servo AF mode (AF-F), which also provides subject tracking for better control of the focus plane in fast-paced shooting situations. Face-priority AF is also available while recording HD movies.

A built-in stereo microphone can be used to record sound during filming, and the camera features 20 levels of manual adjustment. These levels can be viewed before and during recording. Additionally, the D5200 supports the use of an external microphone for even greater control over your recorded sound with movies.
Built-In HDR and Active D-Lighting
For capturing images with immense contrast, built-in HDR is able to extend the D5200's native dynamic range capabilities by recording multiple exposures and blending well-controlled shadow and highlight exposures into a single image. HDR is most-suitable for stationary subject matter, whereas Active D-Lighting can suit moving subjects while still providing exposure and color control benefits.
Scene Modes, Picture Control, and Special Effects
16 different scene modes and six picture control settings allow you to further refine the look of your still imagery in-camera. Scene modes include: Portrait, Landscape, Child, Sports, Close up, Night portrait, Night landscape, Party/indoor, Beach/snow, Sunset, Dusk/dawn, Pet portrait, Candlelight, Blossom, Autumn colors, and Food. Picture Control settings include: Standard, Neutral, Vivid, Monochrome, Portrait, and Landscape.

When working with HD movies, you can apply Special Effects to alter the look of your videos. These effects include: Selective color, Miniature effect, Color sketch, Silhouette, High key, Low key, and Night vision.
Compatible with WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter
The D5200 is compatible with the WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter to provide wireless connectivity to your camera. This enables you to instantly share imagery from your camera to Android or iOS mobile devices for sharing on imaging sites or through email. Additionally you can use your wireless device as a remote viewfinder and shutter release for taking photographs with your camera set at a distance.

The D5200 Is amazing for those new to photography who are serious about getting educated, and simply having fun. There are plenty of features for you to play with and it is a great tool for learning and practicing with settings like White Balance, Exposure Compensation, Metering, Shutter speeds, Etc.. The 18-140mm kit lens is a great starting lens for landscapes, nature, closer distance wildlife, city shots, people, and definitely low light shots (provided you have a tripod). The ISO on this little camera is great for those low light situations, I take a photograph class and the instructor has a D800 as his main camera, but stands by the D5200 as his lightweight secondary camera. It is however slightly small (at least for my giant hands, but you get used to its size very quickly. all in all, a great kit for the price!

I am a 72 yr. old casual camera user and this camera is perfect for me. It lets me take no brainer shots while at the same time it will let me experiment when I feel like it with more difficult themes. This was the first time I ordered from B&H and couldn't have asked for anything smoother as product was delivered fast, packaging was good.

Comments about Nikon D5200 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm VR DX Lens:

Using this as a backup camera for Wedding Photography and landscape photography. the 24mb helps in Wedding photography giving more cropping options without losing resolution and for landscape provides great detail. If you are familiar with Nikon cameras will be easy to use.

The camera is great for carrying as it is small and light, which made me feel uncomfortable at first since I have a D300 which is built like a tank. So a great mobile camera but some concerns with its ruggedness. Funny that when you add the 18-140mm VR DX Lens the camera suddenly becomes a-lot heavier. Lens is ruggedly made, very tight and feels like something that can last a lifetime.

For me the low noise at higher ISOs and expanded cropping options opens up opportunities in taking shots and creating images. so from limited shooting done so far am very happy with this camera.

Comments about Nikon D5200 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm VR DX Lens:

Upgraded from a Nikon D3100 to the D5200 after five years with a longer range lens. The 18-140mm lens is great for portraits- gives your subject some distance and space. Very happy with the additional range over the 18-55 lens. It lets you have access to more situations without having to switch lenses. Also picked up a Nikon SB 500 flash which has been helpful in getting better head shots; faster with more natural lighting than the on camera flash. Looking forward to trying both in more shoots.

Comments about Nikon D5200 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm VR DX Lens:

After using a Nikon D90 with all kind of lenses (DX and FX formats) for the 5 years, I decided to buy a new Nikon DX kit. Did my research online, yet I was skeptical about the 24 MP sensor in a DX format and the lack of a pentaprism in a DSLR.Well, the D5200 with 18-140mm VR ED lens proved the contrary! The camera is light, extremely easy to operate and the swivel LCD display makes possible shooting from various angles (great feature for video recording). The camera's control buttons are kind of small, yet functional. The menu is simplified and more logical compared with the D90. The info button gives you direct access to the most critical parameters directly on your LCD display for quick adjustments. I found the HDR and the Active D light features very efficient in extreme light conditions. The cons are few and what I miss most is the integrated Wi-Fi built in the newest models (D5300). Also, the video button is not ergonomic at all, not to mention the video recording red button which I constantly miss when starting in recording mode (awkward position). The Nikon 18-140 mm VR ED zoom lens is the best wide to midrange lens Nikon ever built in DX format! It focuses fast and without hesitations in most light conditions. I did notice an improvement of the focus mechanism (and SWM) from its predecessor: the 18-105mm DX lens. Nikon may have put together a reliable DX camera with its best zoom lens in this kit!. Yes, the D7100 + 18-140mm VR ED lens would be the perfect combination in the DX category, yet I am pleased with the D5200 since I can get the same results: great HD pictures and video recordings.

Will coming back to B&H, they have the best service, with the best price and fast delivery. This is the best camera for a starter to learn and get the hung of what a DSLR shooting is all about.

Comments about Nikon D5200 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm VR DX Lens:

This camera has enough novice features, using the scenes and effects to satisfy any entry level neophyte. Taking pictures right out of the box is simple, and the pictures are great! Some of the button controls are not as intuitive as I would like initially, but I am sure that I will get used to them. The camera is fairly heavy, especially with the 18-140mm lens attached.

It is easy for students who have never used a camera before to use and immediately produce high quality images. It is being used in a high school class, so this is important.

Comments about Nikon D5200 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm VR DX Lens:

Great camera - no need to carry a second lens as this one has plenty of range for a vacation or sports game.
