I use this monitor to edit photos in PS. My first monitor was a LaCie Blue 19 inch CRT. I have used 2 different iMacs, one a G5 with anti-glare coating and the other an Intel model with a glossy screen. My last monitor was a 24 inch Dell 2407WFP-HC which I used for 6 years. I calibrated it with a Spyder Elite 3.

The Ultrasharp had a nice picture but the anti-glare coating was a bit over enthusiastic and reduced the resolution and contrast of the display. The Menu buttons were not intuitive at all and made calibration with the Spyder a real pain. The pain was increased by the fact that there was so little instruction included regarding use of the Spyder.

The PA-272 is breath-taking in the beauty of the pictures it renders and its simplicity of use. The included colorimeter and software make calibration super easy. All you need to know is what targets to plug into the programme. (Check out TFTCentral for advice). Once you start the process you just sit back and watch for a few minutes. The process completes quickly and you have a beautifully calibrated monitor.

The anti-glare coating is just enough to cut down reflections while still allowing a sharp and contrasty image. You can calibrate to multiple standards if you wish. I primarily use sRGB which is far less than the monitor is capable of but compatible with what is internet standard.

The only problem with this monitor is that it is so good that when you send pictures to people who use $150 dog poop monitors they will not see half of the beauty of the photograph. As an aside, my niece is a professional graphics designer and they all have cheap monitors hooked up to their Macs so they can see what most people will see when viewing their work.

I also have a PA-242 which I use as a second monitor and although it is good and the colour match after calibration is excellent it has a few issues that the PA-272 does not have.

This monitor is pricey but if you have the money don't hesitate. This is truly the finest monitor I have ever used.

Bought the NEC PA272W-BK-SV to replace my NEC LCD2690WUXI2 for photography. It will be used with my new Mac Pro for Photoshop and Lightroom duties.
Overall, it's a nice upgrade to the 2690. Larger screen, higher resolution, satin anti-glare, more ports and MUCH lower power usage. The LED backlight should also outlast the old CCFL backlight and maintain whitepoint more accurately for a longer period of time. Runs cooler, too.
Currently, I'm running the PA272 off of my Retina MacBook Pro. The image quality is excellent.
The bad news is that the Displayport does not output 2560x1440 resolution. I can only get 1920x1200 from that port using the NEC supplied Displayport to Mini-Displayport cable that came with the monitor. I ordered a new cable from OWC and unfortunately, still get the same result.
However, I also bought a Mini-DisplayPort to Mini-DisplayPort cable. It works fine and gives me the full 2560x1440. Good thing the monitor has both a DisplayPort and Mini-DisplayPort port.
I called NEC and they are shipping me a new DisplayPort cable to try. If that does not fix the issue they have agreed to exchange the monitor for a new one.
In addition, the monitor came with a Russian User Manual and no English version. It also had several Euro-only power connectors in the box. No big deal but, weird.
Once we can get all of the ports working I expect to be happy with my PA272 but, I'm not there yet.

Comments about NEC PA272W-BK-SV LED Backlit Wide Gamut LCD Desktop Monitor with SpectraViewII (Black):

What a dramatic difference between the NEC PA272W and my late 2013 iMac. Photos that lacked shadow detail have come to life, along with so many other small details that can make or break a photo.

Setup was simple, as was calibration. The monitor arrived without any dead pixels, and yes, Russian instructions and 5 different power cables. I can travel the world with my NEC! The monitor is easy to adjust height wise on its sturdy base and can also turn from left to right to access the rear ports and adjust the screen accordingly. I'm getting 2560 x 1440 resolution with the provided cables and the screen is Amazing!

Although there is a calibration setting for video, I have not tried editing any video yet with the NEC, but If you're serious about your photography, regardless if you print or post on the web, a high quality monitor like the NEC is a must. Once I saw the difference working on my photo's in Lightroom, I was really pleased with my purchase. Well worth the price of admission IMHO. As always, great service with BH Photo!

I am an avid photographer and it was really important for me to be able to see the colors of my images accurately and this monitor delivers. I had purchased a dell u2713h but could not get it to work with my macpro. No issues like that with the NEC. My only gripe is that access to the extra usb ports are on the back of the monitor as opposed to the sides, like the Dell had.

Very easy to set up with MacbookPro. MiniDisplayPort cable is included. Spectraview II software and sensor calibration is self-guiding. Printed document support is lacking and setup is sometimes confusing: the role of the ambient light sensor is not made clear. A manual was missing (it should have been on a CD) but is available on the NEC website. Also note that the sensor is labeled as MDSVSENSOR3. All in all, am very pleased with this monitor and calibrator.

Comments about NEC PA272W-BK-SV LED Backlit Wide Gamut LCD Desktop Monitor with SpectraViewII (Black):

Bought this to connect to MBPr for the purpose of photo editing. Prior to this I had transitioned for an 24" iMac to the 15" MBPr. I tried to convince myself that I'd be happy editing on the 15" retina display. Don't get me wrong, the MBPr screen is awesome, and there is no reason you cannot edit photos on it. It's just that once you lose screen real-estate you miss it after a while. The MBPr gave me mobility and flexibility I didn't have with the iMac, and the NEC PA272 just completed the package. I now have the best of both worlds. As far as the monitor goes I did the typical internet blitz and researched and read about all kinds of monitors. I looked at cheaper options, and apple options and ended up with the PA272. After using it for only a short period of time I can honestly say I made the right decision. The NEC won't wow you with a fancy exterior design, cameras, or speakers. It is not flashy but it delivers where it counts. The screen is awesome. Coming from using a shinny iMac screen the anti-glare coating is outstanding (especially if you have a less than optimal work space.) It has plenty of resolution for my needs. I also highly recommend the Spectral View. Getting the monitor calibrated is a breeze. I'm no color management guru, but I know enough to know that I have a very solid starting point with the initial setup. As my knowledge increases I know that the tools are there to finely tune and adjust your set up. I also want to note the the monitor height and tilt adjustment are great. You have much more flexibility then say my old iMac display. So what it all comes down to is I feel I purchased a phenomenal monitor that I can grow into. Yes it's more expensive then much of the competition, but you get what you pay for. I paid for the screen, the color management capabilities, and the build quality. Like I said before, I'd buy it again, without hesitation.

I'm using this monitor for photo editing and it was replacing an aging Apple Cinema Display.

The resolution upgrade and light evenness is great. Although you do lose brightness when in the most even mode, it's still the correct brightness for photo work.

As some have mentioned the stand is NOT tall enough for proper ergonomics. I had to buy something to raise it. In my experience, you need 5 more inches of height and I'm short.

I experienced no QC problems. The monitor I got was in perfect shape with no dead pixels.

The control software ( on OSX ) is not intuitive and a little slow, but it does the job.

Mine also came with a Russian manual, which was weird. So weird, in fact, that I emailed NEC directly to make sure B&H wasn't doing something fishy. ( Sorry B&H! ) This is the response I got:

" NEC ships their units in brown boxes. We do not print or ship English manuals with the monitor, it would have come with the printed Russian manual. B&H is an NEC authorized reseller of ours so you would have received an authentic NEC monitor. I can confirm by the serial number that we sold and shipped this unit directly to B&H. "

So expect a great monitor and something to practice your Russian with!

This is the large monitor to have, unless of course you go for the 30"! This monitor is ultra-sharp, with perfect color fidelity. It's calibration system is easy to use, yet offers more advanced options depending on how deep you wish to delve. The frame is nicely matte so that you don't notice it, and the screen is wonderfully matte also. I would buy this again for sure.

I plug it into my 15'' macbook Pro - and the screenspace is great. I edit video and photos with it, as well as some motion graphics. All work great.(Sometimes I plug it in with my 24'' Dell - and it's really fun!)The color calibration was really easy to use and set up too - soon I'll have a great printer to test out it's accuracy!

Comments about NEC PA272W-BK-SV LED Backlit Wide Gamut LCD Desktop Monitor with SpectraViewII (Black):

Love this monitor! Coming from an old Apple 23" cinema display, this thing just kills it. I am using a late 2013 model Retina MBP and have had zero issues so far in the two weeks I have owned both. The included mini display port to display port cable works perfectly thusfar with the rMBP....plugs into one of the Thunderbolt ports on the rMBP. I have also used it with an older MacPro using the included DVI cable. The options on this monitor are great, as you can run a picture in picture mode using different inputs and you can easily switch from aRGB to sRGB by accessing a menu option. This is great when one wants to see what your images will look like on the web. There are a few usb ports on the back and one on the side which help with using a keyboard and card reader. I have yet to rotate the monitor to the vertical orientation, but it can be done easily. Overall this monitor is awesome.

This is a followup to my earlier review where the Displayport port would not provide full 2560x1440 resolution. NEC shipped me a new unit and sent me a call tag for the DOA unit. The new one works perfectly. Yay!

Thanks to NEC for being so responsive.

Also, I found out that pretty much all countries except Russia are ok with digital manuals. That's why NEC includes a Russian manual in the box.

Comments about NEC PA272W-BK-SV LED Backlit Wide Gamut LCD Desktop Monitor with SpectraViewII (Black):

I use the NEC monitor for photography, specifically with Photoshop. It's a terrific monitor, a great replacement for my LaCie CRT monitor. Excellent picture characteristics. The monitor was easy to set up and calibrate with the included SpectraView II software and sensor. Also, I recommend buying the hood that goes with this 27" model. Inside is black plush that prevents stray light. Hood had an opening for the sensor when calibrating. The strange/funny thing about the package is that they include a manual that comes in three languages, all cyrilic alphabet based, the first being Russian. Of course there is an English language version on the internet and on the jump drive that comes with the monitor. The jump drive also contains the calibration software and SpectraView II manual.

Comments about NEC PA272W-BK-SV LED Backlit Wide Gamut LCD Desktop Monitor with SpectraViewII (Black):
