The Pentax K-3 DSLR Camera is an advanced DSLR featuring a 23.35MP APS-C CMOS sensor and PRIME III image processor to produce high-resolution still imagery and full HD 1080i/p video with high low-light sensitivity to ISO 51200. Full-resolution continuous shooting is supported up to 8.3 fps for 22 consecutive RAW frames, with a top shutter speed of 1/8000 sec., and the SAFOX11 autofocus system utilizes 27 focus points, with 25 cross-type points, to maintain sharp focus in a quick and accurate manner. Benefitting the image quality is a selectable anti-aliasing filter, which can be turned on or off to either garner the highest resolution and sharpness possible or provide enhanced protection against moiré. Additionally, in-camera Shake Reduction image stabilization renders any K-mount lens stabilized and helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake when working with greater shutter speeds or longer focal lengths.

The K-3's body design incorporates 92 special seals to render it cold, dust, and weather-resistant and the magnesium alloy cover with stainless steel chassis contribute to overall durability and ruggedness. A 0.95x magnification optical pentaprism viewfinder is incorporated into the body as well as a 3.2" 1,037k-dot LCD monitor for a choice of bright, clear viewing means. Dual SD card slots extend the recording versatility of the camera and FLU memory card support enables wireless image transferring and remote camera control possibilities when in use.

Included with the K-3 camera body is the smc Pentax DA 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 ED AL (IF) DC WR lens, which provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 27.5-207mm, covering wide-angle to telephoto perspectives to suit working in a wide variety of situations. The lens construction integrates aspherical elements to help minimize chromatic aberration as well as improve image sharpness. An SP (Super Protect) coating has been applied to elements to help repel dust, water, and grease and the lens body is constructed to the same weather-resistant standards as the K-3 for use in inclement conditions.

23.35MP APS-C CMOS Sensor and PRIME III Processor
A large 23.35MP APS-C CMOS sensor and PRIME III image processing engine work together to enable high-resolution imaging and full HD video recording with notable low-light sensitivity from ISO 100-51200. The image processor also contributes to a wealth of shooting speed for the camera, including a top full-resolution continuous shooting rate of 8.3 fps for up to 22 consecutive RAW images or 60 JPEGs and a maximum shutter speed of 1/8000 sec. This highly durable, advanced shutter is rated to 200,000 cycles and employs a range of innovative technologies that independently regulate the shutter, mirror, and diaphragm to minimize mirror shock for accurately-render images when shooting at higher frame rates.
Selectable Anti-Aliasing Filter
A unique and innovative mechanism allows you to toggle the anti-aliasing filter's effect either on or off, providing support for both the high-resolution abilities of a filter-less design as well as advanced moiré protection. With the filter in the Off position, the K-3 is more prone to acquiring maximum sharpness, resolution, and detail from an image for the highest attainable image quality. When the filter position is set to On, an anti-aliasing simulator applies microscopic vibrations to the image sensor unit at a sub-pixel level during exposure; working to the same effect as an optical anti-aliasing filter. Having both options available extends the camera's versatility and allows personalized selection of the benefits best-suited to individual applications.
SAFOX11 Autofocus Module
A redesigned SAFOX11 autofocus module has been integrated into the K-3 and employs 27 focus points in order to deliver a metering range of -3 to +20 EV. 25 of the 27 sensors are cross-type, in order to gain the highest precision while focusing, and three of the sensors are dedicated to low-light performance.
Real Time Scene Analysis Metering
The Real Time Scene Analysis System utilizes an 86,000 pixel RGB light-metering sensor with enhanced metering algorithms to increase the accuracy of exposure metering and white balancing as well as aiding the autofocus system.
Full HD 1080i/p Video Recording
Full HD 1920 x 1080 video recording is supported in multiple frame rates, including 60i, 50i, 30p, 25p, and 24p, in the high-quality H.264 format. HD 1280 x 720 video is also supported in 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p, and 24p frame rates. Audio can be recorded along with video using the built-in stereo microphone or, additionally, a 3.5mm microphone terminal is available for use of an external mic. A headphone port is also incorporated into the camera for real time audio monitoring for precise in-camera manipulation of the audio levels. A dedicated switch permits instant transition from still to movie shooting and an HDMI terminal is integrated into the body's design for direct HD output to a television or monitor.
In-Camera Shake Reduction
In-camera sensor-shift type Shake Reduction (SR) works to minimize the appearance of camera shake when using any mounted lens. Ideal for working in low-light conditions or with longer lenses, since the image stabilization is located within the body, both past, legacy lenses as well as current Pentax lenses all receive the benefits of SR.
smc Pentax DA 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 ED AL [IF] DC WR Lens
The included zoom lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 27.5-207mm to suit working in a wide variety of shooting scenarios. It features the same weather-resistant construction as the camera body to enable shooting in harsh environments and also has an SP coating to help repel dust, water, and grease on the front element. Its construction incorporates aspherical lens elements to help minimize chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range and also contribute to producing overall sharper, clearer imagery. Additionally, a Direct Current (DC) motor is utilized to provide quick, quiet, and smooth auto focusing that is well-suited to working with HD video recording.
Body Design
Revolving around a durable magnesium alloy body with stainless steel chassis, the K-3 is fully weather and coldproof due to the inclusion of 92 independent seals. These seals protect the camera from water, fog, snow, sand, and dust for ensured performance in a wide range of conditions.

Two SD memory cards slots are incorporated into the body for greater flexibility and potential capacity when shooting and support both overflow and JPEG/RAW file separation. Support is also availed to dedicated 16GB FLU memory cards, which provides wireless connectivity to the camera for remote adjustment over camera settings, remote live view monitoring, and wireless sharing of files. Eye-Fi wireless cards are supported, too.

Also housed within the body is a bright, low-profile glass pentaprism viewfinder with 0.95x magnification and 100% frame coverage. The glass has been treated with an optimized coating to improve brightness and reflectance for clearer viewing. Additionally, optional interchangeable focusing screens can be used depending on personal preference for critical focusing and composing. A 3.2" 1,037k-dot LCD monitor is available, too, for bright live view monitoring, image playback, and menu navigation and features an anti-reflective (AR) coating and gapless glass design for greater clarity when viewing.

Comments about Pentax K-3 DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Lens:

          The K3 replaced my K100D.
I expected a higher resolution, and this camera did not disappoint me. This camera is extremely fast and sharp, great color rendition and low noise. Better image stabilization, and will support Optical stabilization, But it is not necessary. Focusing is quick and accurate. All older Manual focus lenses are supported, prime lenses can use Shake reduction, But Shake reduction should be turned off for Manual focus zoom lenses. The camera cannot tell what the focal length is. Metering is very accurate, and gives uniform results regardless of the ISO speed or aperture settings. TTL flash is also supported and gives excellent results. 27 focusing points gives excellent tracking ability. But if you're not Shooting fast-moving subjects birds in flight, sports or kids, You should use 9 focusing points or Central point focusing. The simulated Anti-aliasing filter works great. But unless your making poster size prints or larger, it probably won't make a difference in what you see. USB 3 and Dual high-capacity memory cards. USB 3 Speeds up transfer tremendously. Pictures transfer quickly from camera to computer. Wireless access is available along with GPS adapter. But neither would benefit me at all. So I'm glad they're not built into the camera It would just raised the price. The screen does not tilt or swivel. To me that is a plus, less chance of breaking Off. However the screen orientation changes when you go from landscape to portrait. The text is always readable. You don't have to tilt your head to Read it. It also has an internal level to precisely orient the camera square to the subject. A nice feature.

The Pentax 18 to 135 WR lens that came with this kit is sharp, quick and quiet. Excellent color Rendition and Any Distortion is imperceptible.

So far I have had no complaints about this camera. It is easy to use and very reliable. Exactly what I expected.

Comments about Pentax K-3 DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Lens:

The Pentax K-3 is one solid camera! Purchasing it sight unseen because of the good reviews and having had an old Pentax camera which produced sharp quality prints, I opted to take a chance. Being new to the DSLR, at first the technology was a bit overwhelming. But, as I use the camera and read a lot I 'm excited to continue experiencing what the K-3 can and will do. I like the solid feel of the camera, the grip is comfortable and the function button placements are easy to find. I plan to order the camera grip. If I read correctly, it helps balance the camera when shooting pictures. The lens is a very good all around lens. I will certainly purchase other lenses in the future. I have only taken a few photos but was impressed with the quality of them when downloaded. I have a long way to go before becoming proficient but I am very happy with the choice I made.

Comments about Pentax K-3 DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Lens:

The K-3 feels sturdy and professional. This camera is bang for buck one of the best deals you will currently find on the market. The K-3 gives you all of the professional features you are looking for in any competitor at half of the price.

The camera itself has two moderate downsides. One, the camera takes a long time to tweak and find the settings you want to typically shoot with; however, once you do find these settings you can save them as a starting point in one of three users' profiles. Two, the image stabilization and focus are tricky resulting in poor images if not carefully configured. There are many online reviews going over how to tweak the camera into optimal settings and I recommend watching these before considering this camera.

Once the entire tweaking and configuring process is figured out, the K-3 is an amazing find. For the casual photographer moving up in the world or the professional in need of a backup this is the camera for you.

I upgraded form a Pentax K-10 and the K-3 is a whole world better. It was easy to start using the camera but the picture quality and focus ability is so much better that you have to use it to believe it. Pentax offers the features you have to pay much more for from Cannon or Nikon. I use the camera to document construction projects and I cannot say enough about the quality of this especially with the weather resistant construction of the camera, it really protects it form the elements that I'm normally exposing it to.

Comments about Pentax K-3 DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Lens:

The ergonomy is great and the cam with its good user interface is very easy to use for someone who has already some experience with DSLRs. Its set of features is really extensive and provides all what a photo enthusiast needs, and some more.

The AF accuracy and speed is very good, if one has a lens which can provide the necessary AF speed, as for example the Pentax DA 18-135mm F/3.5-5.6.

The build quality is great as with all of the Pentax products I own/owned. And the weather sealing together with a sealed lens allows to shoot in all weather conditions. I used this feature quite extensively, while taking picutures on hiking tours.

What I'm missing is the tilt/swivel screen. Even though I would need it only for a few percent of my shots, it would still be handy sometimes. With a tilt screen this camera would be perfect.

Comments about Pentax K-3 DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Lens:

I'm coming from a Canon 50D an all I can say is WOW!!! I've been shooting for about ten years, but lately I've been stuck in "auto" mode, because my camera just did not inspire me anymore. Instead of just going our big box stores, This time I researched extensively before deciding on the pentax k3. I usually like to "hold & feel" the camera before I buy, but B&H has a great reputation and I took the plunge.. From the moment I opened the box, you could just tell this is no light weight camera(meaning g that it is pure quality). After unpacking everything and reading the manual I was ready to shoot. I started in full auto mode just to get a feel for the camera and on my cannons best day and I had two very nice prime lens for it, it could not shine a light to this section little thing. I have big hands so I ordered the grip with it and it fits like a glove. I'm 47 years old and I'm like a kid in the candy store with this baby. I would also like to add, that a week after my purchase, the camera went on sale with the grip included for free. Never dealing with B&H before I wasn't sure how they would handle my purchase. Let me say that they were great about it and credited my card back for the cost of the grip, no questions asked. They have a customer for life now.. I would also like to add, that in low light I could never get "the shot" with my canon, but the very first night in "auto" mode yet, I was blessed to achieve stunning night photos. So yes I would strongly recommend this camera to anyone, along with the great customer service from B&H. I hope this helps.. P.S. My kit came with the 18-135mm lens..

Comments about Pentax K-3 DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Lens:

Having a roughly 10 year old camera from a less expensive bracket (pentax k10d), we were quite envious of our friends with the latest Nikons (D600) and Canons. We were nervous getting into Pentax again, but we absolutely love this camera. It's a major upgrade for us, and I never believed how much difference the camera can make to pictures. Got some fantastic indoor lowlight pics too. Been playing for 2 weeks now, looking forward to enhancing my relationship with this camera!!

Comments about Pentax K-3 DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Lens:

After being totally satisfied and happy with the k-5ll,I purchased the k-3 as a Christmas gift for my girlfriend. So I only tried it out for a short time comparing it to my k-5ll.
I was instantly impressed and comfortable that she would not find it overwhelming and easier to use than her current DSLR.
It is now her take with camera of choice.
So far only positive results from both my k-5ll and her k-3

Comments about Pentax K-3 DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Lens:

I wanted to upgrade from my EOS550D (Rebel T3 in the US I think), and after reading about every review about all the current APC-C DSLR, I decided for the K-5IIs at first, and then the K-3.

The first thing you notice is the built quality. Stunning! This thing feels like you could use it as a spare hammer... The magnesium does make a difference. And every moving part feels rugged and solid. Even the shutter stands out: zero vibration, you only hear that something moved somewhere, deep into the thing. My Canon feels so clunky and cheap now... (Ok, it WAS much cheaper anyway let's be fair).

The handling is exceptional: I have small hands, and for the first time I am 100% comfortable with handling a DSLR with only one hand (probably not with a heavy lens, of course).

The main reason for upgrading was that the colors and were always slightly off on the Canon, and very hard to fix on the PC, especially when the light isn't ideal. And then nothing looked appealing to me in the current Canon Range. What a change! Even in typical grey-ish Irish weather, or at night, the colors are spot on, apart in really, really bad conditions. My wife who is a total beginner saw immediately the difference. The pictures look much, much more alive.

The high-ISO performance is good, though probably not as spectacular as on the K-5II. There is noise, indeed, but a nice and color-neutral noise, unlike the purple 'bad reception TV' dirt I had before. Looks a lot like analog film noise. Thanks to the 24Mp, you can push quite a bit the noise reduction while keeping a good level of detail. I don't hesitate to use 3200 ISO, and 6400 is perfectly usable if you avoid large black surfaces. I didn't compare with a 7100, so I don't know if it is awesome or just ok. I'm happy with it in any case.

The image stabilization works pretty well, clearly better than on my 'old' Canon. The fact that it's in the body and not on the lens is quite nice. I only had one stabilized lens on the Canon and it was really annoying (I didn't re-purchase the same lenses just because of this novelty, no way).

The autofocus is pretty good for me, but I guess my opinion on it isn't relevant: I always use the central spot to keep things in control, and I very rarely do sport photo. The speed is perfectly fine for me, as good as on the Canon, and it works surprisingly well in the dark (with a limited lens, not so much with the 18-135). Some say it's not as good as Canon/Nikon, but I can't really tell, I use the AF very conservatively.

Sharpness is awesome with a good lens. I realized how sharp it can be when I saw that the picture was perfectly neat in the tiny close-up window of Lightroom :) (the one just above Sharpness).

The shutter is very well dampened, and very, very fast (8.3 fps). Fast enough to use the built-in HDR tool (3 pictures) without a tripod! BTW, you can either set it to simply balance the lighting, or push it to get this fancy HDR look (not my thing).

The ergonomics are good, I had no issue whatsoever to switch from the Canon. I had to read the manual for a few things, but really, everything is at hand and easy to use. Using the wheel instead of spam-clicking the direction buttons to change the settings is really much better. You have a quick access to about every settings anytime with the 'info' button. Very handy. Only it took some time to get used to the trigger: just touching it is enough to focus. I even thought there wasn't a 'half-pressed' position at first ^^'

The video? I don't know, I'm not using it. Even if I did, I wouldn't be able to really judge.

For some reason, the autofocus system is totally different when shooting from the back screen: fast but totally lost when it becomes dark (a contrast-based AF apparently).

There is a level included, that you can show in the viewfinder. Very handy.

What else? I heard that the Jpeg pictures are not great, but I don't really see the point of using Jpeg on it, this is not a point-and-shoot. Probably something that will be adjusted with a firmware update if needed.

I bought it with the 15mm limited and the 18-135 (I wanted at least one weather-proof lens to go with it; I live in Ireland after all!).

The zoom is good but not outstanding, my canon's Sigma 18-70 was better (but not weather-proofed and quite bigger). It is much better build than it looks on the pictures, no 'plastic fantastic' feeling.

The limited lens is awesome, but I wouldn't recommend a 15mm to a beginner: tilt the camera just a few degrees and your house becomes a badly-designed pyramid :D

After all I could read about today's offers, I'm pretty sure it's the best APS-C camera on the market, apart maybe for the sports photography. For the video I have no clue.

I couldn't do comparisons myself, but from what I see of it, and all I could read and watch about the competitors, I think I did the best choice :) They basically put a great APS-C sensor if a top-notch professional body.

Besides, it has a fabulous 'toy' aspect. Every time I see it on the table, or every time I see the limited lens, I want to go out play with it! first time a camera does that to me.

PS: The weather and location didn't allow me to do anything great yet - sorry for the so-so pictures!

I'm pretty revolted to see that nobody even bother to review the K-3 in the press, apart one or two exceptions!!! I use this as a criteria now, to check if a review website/magazine/youtube channel can be trusted to be neutral.

Comments about Pentax K-3 DSLR Camera with 18-135mm Lens:

I'm a prosumer target for the K3. I'm upgrading from the K7. This is a great upgrade. Taking a fine camera in the K7 to tremendous upgrade in all areas. I love all of my existing Pentax equpment (lens,flash,etc..)still work with no issues. But I'm impressed in the picture quality improvement with the new sensor. The focusing speed is a marked improvement, especailly with live view. The Video is much improved (including focusing). Quality at high ISO is definitely improveded as well. This is one of the top cameras on the market, especially at that price point. My only complaint is that the manual for the K3 is worse than all the predecesors, leaving the maket open for a good 3rd party manual.
