Full-resolution continuous shooting is supported up to 8.3 fps for 22 consecutive RAW frames, with a top shutter speed of 1/8000 sec., and the SAFOX11 autofocus system utilizes 27 focus points, with 25 cross-type points, to maintain sharp focus in a quick and accurate manner. Benefitting the image quality is a selectable anti-aliasing filter, which can be turned on or off to either garner the highest resolution and sharpness possible or provide enhanced protection against moiré. Additionally, in-camera Shake Reduction image stabilization renders any K-mount lens stabilized and helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake when working with greater shutter speeds or longer focal lengths.

The K-3's body design incorporates 92 special seals to render it cold, dust, and weather-resistant and the magnesium alloy cover with stainless steel chassis contribute to overall durability and ruggedness. A 0.95x magnification optical pentaprism viewfinder is incorporated into the body as well as a 3.2" 1,037k-dot LCD monitor for a choice of bright, clear viewing means. Dual SD card slots extend the recording versatility of the camera and FLU memory card support enables wireless image transferring and remote camera control possibilities when in use.

The Premium Silver Edition K-3 includes a silver D-BG5 battery grip and a special edition camera strap to enhance the camera's aesthetic appearance.

24.35MP APS-C CMOS Sensor and PRIME III Processor
A large 24.35MP APS-C CMOS sensor and PRIME III image processing engine work together to enable high-resolution imaging and full HD video recording with notable low-light sensitivity from ISO 100-51200. The image processor also contributes to a wealth of shooting speed for the camera, including a top full-resolution continuous shooting rate of 8.3 fps for up to 22 consecutive RAW images or 60 JPEGs and a maximum shutter speed of 1/8000 sec. This highly durable, advanced shutter is rated to 200,000 cycles and employs a range of innovative technologies that independently regulate the shutter, mirror, and diaphragm to minimize mirror shock for accurately-render images when shooting at higher frame rates.
Selectable Anti-Aliasing Filter
A unique and innovative mechanism allows you to toggle the anti-aliasing filter's effect either on or off, providing support for both the high-resolution abilities of a filter-less design as well as advanced moiré protection. With the filter in the Off position, the K-3 is more prone to acquiring maximum sharpness, resolution, and detail from an image for the highest attainable image quality. When the filter position is set to on, an anti-aliasing simulator applies microscopic vibrations to the image sensor unit at a sub-pixel level during exposure; working to the same effect as an optical anti-aliasing filter. Having both options available extends the camera's versatility and allows personalized selection of the benefits best-suited to individual applications.
SAFOX11 Autofocus Module
A redesigned SAFOX11 autofocus module has been integrated into the K-3 and employs 27 focus points in order to deliver a metering range of -3 to +20 EV. Twenty-five of the 27 sensors are cross-type, in order to gain the highest precision while focusing, and three of the sensors are dedicated to low-light performance.
Real Time Scene Analysis Metering
The Real Time Scene Analysis System utilizes an 86,000 pixel RGB light-metering sensor with enhanced metering algorithms to increase the accuracy of exposure metering and white balancing as well as aiding the autofocus system.
Full HD 1080i/p Video Recording
Full HD 1920 x 1080 video recording is supported in multiple frame rates, including 60i, 50i, 30p, 25p, and 24p, in the high-quality H.264 format. HD 1280 x 720 video is also supported in 60p, 50p, 30p, 25p, and 24p frame rates. Audio can be recorded along with video using the built-in stereo microphone or, additionally, a 3.5mm microphone terminal is available for use of an external mic. A headphone port is also incorporated into the camera for real time audio monitoring for precise in-camera manipulation of the audio levels. A dedicated switch permits instant transition from still to movie shooting and an HDMI terminal is integrated into the body's design for direct HD output to a television or monitor.
In-Camera Shake Reduction
In-camera sensor-shift type Shake Reduction (SR) works to minimize the appearance of camera shake when using any mounted lens. Ideal for working in low-light conditions or with longer lenses, since the image stabilization is located within the body, both past, legacy lenses as well as current Pentax lenses all receive the benefits of SR.
Body Design
Revolving around a durable magnesium alloy body with stainless steel chassis, the K-3 is fully weather and coldproof due to the inclusion of 92 independent seals. These seals protect the camera from water, fog, snow, sand, and dust for ensured performance in a wide range of conditions.

Two SD memory cards slots are incorporated into the body for greater flexibility and potential capacity when shooting and support both overflow and JPEG/RAW file separation. Support is also availed to dedicated 16GB FLU memory cards, which provides wireless connectivity to the camera for remote adjustment over camera settings, remote live view monitoring, and wireless sharing of files. Eye-Fi wireless cards are supported, too.

Also housed within the body is a bright, low-profile glass pentaprism viewfinder with 0.95x magnification and 100% frame coverage. The glass has been treated with an optimized coating to improve brightness and reflectance for clearer viewing. Additionally, optional interchangeable focusing screens can be used depending on personal preference for critical focusing and composing. A 3.2" 1,037k-dot LCD monitor is available, too, for bright live view monitoring, image playback, and menu navigation and features an anti-reflective (AR) coating and gapless glass design for greater clarity when viewing.

This Premium Silver Edition includes a silver D-BG5 battery grip that that incorporates a larger grip and secondary shutter release button that enhances handling while shooting in the vertical orientation. The battery grip also provides extended battery life to the camera for longer shooting sessions. Also included is a dedicated neck strap to complement the unique look of the silver Premium Silver Edition camera.

Comments about Pentax K-3 Premium Silver Edition DSLR Camera (Body Only):

My first back in my newspaper Pro days was an ME Super. Almost got a Nikon, but Pentax was the only one with similar quality glass. Lucky me. Minolta - Gone. Canon and Nikon put their image stabilization in their lens !! Bad choice. Make each lens more expensive and renders my old pro glass useless in a digital world because over 5mega pixels you require stabilization. My first digital camera - Apple Quick Take 100... and many since. This pro back is by several orders of magnitude better. They even got the large glove friendly mode knob large enough and with a lock so you can't bump it. Did you notice a film equivalent speed of 51K ASA ??? WOW !!!

          Great version of great camera!

          By BBooDad

          from Wisconsin

Comments about Pentax K-3 Premium Silver Edition DSLR Camera (Body Only):

Loving it! Comparing to my K7, Resolution is has nicely jumped a lot. I can really crop in now. Lower light performance and focusing is considerably better. Autofocus even better. Furthermore, I like that it can automatically save a 1920p JPEG to one card for a quick upload to Flickr, while saving just DNGs to the main card to work with. That way no extra versions of jpegs filling up my directories; I just upload what I want and wipe the rest.

Other things I like: better SD card door; rock solid feel; goes down to colder temps.

The anti-moire is un-needed for full-res DNGs. However, if taking a picture of a roof and saving as a small jpg, then a bit of moire can be seen.

Downsides: battery grip feels like junky Canon Rebel 1 plastic! But is functional and looks ok. Autofocus button instead of knob takes figuring out. A lot bigger files, lol!

          Definitely a great buy.

Comments about Pentax K-3 Premium Silver Edition DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I'm going to start by saying I'm a RAW shooter, and that I haven't really tried out the jpeg settings too much. And that the K-3 is far from the first camera system I've bought into. I actually traded a fair amount of medium format film equipment towards this camera, and I have to say I've never been more satisfied bringing a single body to such a variety of jobs and in so many sometimes trying weather conditions.
So far I've used it for weddings, concept and creative shoots, commercial work, portraits, landscapes, stock and a sprinkling of photojournalism...I've even shot music videos and time-lapse pieces with it. I've never been able to do all that with a single piece of equipment before.
8+ fps bursts, a myriad of quick external controls around a super-intuitive menu interface, external mic and headphone jacks, more resolution than most jobs will ever need, all packed into a rugged, near-silent beast of an all-metal body. I've literally shot with this thing in a hail storm, and the photos looked AWESOME.
If you need a professional camera that you actually want to bring with you anywhere and everywhere, the K-3 fits the bill.

Comments about Pentax K-3 Premium Silver Edition DSLR Camera (Body Only):

Beautifully made camera that holds its own with any of the pro offerings out there. The limited edition silver is easy on the eyes while maintaining a solid construction. AF and FPS are fast and flawless. Would recommended to any one looking at an alternative. Bonus, all my legacy lens mount right up and work perfectly.

Shoots fast with excellent focus. This is the first battery grip I've ever used, and I love the functions for shooting in profile. Lots of options and control over how you shoot and how much the camera affects the photo.

Comments about Pentax K-3 Premium Silver Edition DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I've just changed over from Canon to Pentax and I am so very happy that I did. It's very user friendly and doesn't throw me off trying because I am not familiar with Pentax cameras. It somehow encourages experimentation because even the bad shots still look really good. I am in love with it!

A lot of improvements… too many to even start. Removing the AA filter was needed, and it is much sharper now. (and now no extra cost for a "II" or "s" model)

The only "CON" and not really a big deal… don't know why they didn't supply the AV/HD, etc cables in this package like all the other Pentax's I've owned (K20D - K7 - K5)

Comments about Pentax K-3 Premium Silver Edition DSLR Camera (Body Only):

The Pentax K-3 is proof that a quality professional camera need not be a behemoth. I had used Nikon in recent years, while Pentax pursued consumers/prosumers, but I always wanted compactness. My first SLR was a small H1A Pentax in 1968, then an LX system, but the company had not followed through until the K-3! Intuitive controls, bright viewfinder, rugged build, detailed sensor and great image quality! In addition, it is very quiet in operation. It is a pro camera in every way.

Pentax NEEDS A MORE COMPLETE LINE OF HD LIMITED WEATHERPROOF LENSES TO COMPLEMENT THE K-3 - all with f2-2.8 maximum apertures and compact size. They have the means to do so.

Comments about Pentax K-3 Premium Silver Edition DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I grew up on Pentax, first the K1000, then the Pz-1p. I moved to Canon when I went digital, because I didn't think Pentax was up to speed.
Years later, I'm not shooting so much anymore, and my kit has dwindled down to just a Rebel body and kit lens, but the desire is still there. I'm remembering my halcyon days with my Pentax 35mm, and start looking into them. The reviews of the K-5II and K-5IIs all sound promising, and I likely would have pulled the trigger if I could have decided on AA/no AA. In comes the K-3. Out goes pre-order for the silver.
The controls are reminiscent of any Pentax ever. The image quality is stupid. I paired this up with a Pentax low-end 50mm fixed and a Sigma 70-300 macro, and so far am super-impressed. I've shot Christmas tree lights at night, extreme close-ups, zoo critters, snow-scapes, aquariums...and this camera has exceeded my expectations in every single environment. Low(er) noise at high ISO and it will focus fast in nearly any lighting. I haven't played with the select-able AA feature yet, but did notice some moire in some bird feathers, so will be trying it out soon.
I'm a military photographer with access to some pretty high-end gear, but given my druthers, I'd take this all day long.

Comments about Pentax K-3 Premium Silver Edition DSLR Camera (Body Only):

What a machine the K3 is! From the moment you pick up this camera you are greeted with a robustness and quality not found in the likes of the competition. Now I bought the K3 Limited Silver Edition. Stunningly beautiful The controls just fall into place. There is so much bang for the buck here I am almost embarrassed to tell Nikon and Canon shooters what my K3 does and how much I paid. I moved up from a Pentax K20D. Its like night and day. This camera is fast. The images are beautiful. I could go into a lot of detail but there are a lot of written and video reviews on the K3. Take the time to read and watch a few. If you are sitting on the fence don't hesitate. I added a couple of my images taken with the K3. I am quite happy.

Comments about Pentax K-3 Premium Silver Edition DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I have several incarnations of Pentax's digital lineup aimed at the enthusiast: *istDS, K10, K20, K5 and now the K3. This is in a different league for Pentax/Ricoh than what they have tried before.

I got into the digital SLR world with Pentax having owned a few Pentax films lenses. Most of the previous cameras they made seemed to be digital film cameras, with some features to take advantage of developing digital technology. The K5 was really the first to add what really is available in terms of clean high ISO, low light shooting, great video, speed and HDR. The K3 is finally the camera I wanted--unapologetically digital and still able to use my legacy lenses.

I have this paired mostly with the FA 31mm 1.8 and it is a portraiture gem. The dual card slots allow me to capture RAW images on one card and JPGs on the other to quick preview from one and import for editing with the other.

I don't really make use of the movie capture on this camera, primarily it is for studio and outdoor portraits. Match it with excellent glass and you will not be disappointed. The FA lenses in particular shine with this one, and the AA countereffects in conjunction can give you that "film" quality a hyper-sharp digital camera too often lacks.

The silver/black retro look is awesome, too, and turns heads--and it is indeed something to see.

Comments about Pentax K-3 Premium Silver Edition DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I was (and still is) the owner of a pentax K10D. It was the time from me to change my camera that starts to be tired. So I have looked for its successor and I saw it. With this camera you have the choice with 27 points to do the AF, a better control of the noise when increasing the ISO (can go up to 51200). This premiium edition comes with the grip that is useful for vertical portait for exemple. Actually it comes with 2 grips: 1 for a lithium battery and 1 with regular battery (smart choice Ricoh). This silver edition is, so far, a limited edition, strongly built .So far, I am really enjoying this big step from my K10D. In addition, the K-3 has the ability to record some videos (once again from a K10D is a new feature). The only negative point (that is not one actually) is that because this camera contains much more function that the K10D, we need time to get used to. But it is worth it.

I'm new to Pentex coming from Nikon. This camera is really
easy to use. I really like the menu setup.

Comments about Pentax K-3 Premium Silver Edition DSLR Camera (Body Only):

Excellent as a studio and sports photography camera. Combined with the Pentax 70mm limited lens it becomes the perfect portrait lens (105mm). Combined with the 300mm its the perfect camera for sports and wildlife photography because of the 8.3 per second frames rate and the 1.5 crop factor. Amazingly quick autofocus and tracking capablity. The still images are extremely sharp and crisp. The video quality rivals that of my Lumix GH3. Love the fact that a second SD card slot has been added.

The the only draw back that I have found is that it doesn't have WI-FI built into the body. To enable WI-FI you have to use a FLU Card that is not available yet.
