The Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera from Sony is a compact, point-and-shoot camera that features a large 20.2MP, 1", Exmor R, CMOS sensor producing high resolution still imagery and Full HD 1080i/p video. This sensor's design utilizes backside-illuminated technology to improve clarity and image quality when working in dimly-lit conditions as well as increase the sensitivity to ISO 12800. Updating from the successful RX1 and RX100 digital cameras, the RX10 houses the new BIONZ X image processor. The processor provides impressive performance speeds such as 10 fps continuous shooting as well as an extended tonal range with low-noise and smooth color gradations.

The built-in, Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T*, 8.3x optical zoom lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 24-200mm, covering abroad range of focal lengths to provide versatile, multi-functional shooting from one zoom lens. A constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 is effective in low light and provides shallow depth of field focus control. Optical SteadyShot image stabilization is also available to help minimize the effects of camera shake when working in dimly-lit conditions and with greater zoom magnifications. The lens also features 7 aspherical elements to minimize aberrations and distortion and Carl Zeiss T* anti-reflective coating, which helps to reduce surface reflections, lens flare, and ghosting in order to produce imagery that is rich in contrast and clarity.

A new Direct Drive, Supersonic Wave Motor (SSM) provides fast and smooth autofocus action while Eye AF enables precise eye-detection focusing with confirmation that a subject's eye is in focus even if their head is partially turned. Flexible Spot areas allow precise focus placement, and Lock-on AF keeps focus locked on a moving subject, even if that subject leaves the frame momentarily. Seamless close-up shooting is also supported, which no longer requires the need to switch to a dedicated macro mode, for focusing on subjects as close as 11.8".

For image composition and playback, the RX10 features a large 3.0", 1228K-dot, Xtra Fine LCD monitor with a tilting design to better serve working from high and low angles. WhiteMagic technology is incorporated into the display to increase the effective brightness of the screen. Also, the XGA OLED Tru-Finder electronic viewfinder integrates four aspherical elements for sharp eye-level composition. An automatic eye-sensor recognizes when an eye is at the viewfinder and illuminates the EVF while turning off the LCD.

Full HD 1080 video is supported in both 60i/p and 24p frame rates and in both AVCHD format and MP4. A built-in stereo microphone and an external mic jack are provided as is a headphone jack from audio monitoring. Professional features such as full manual exposure control and uncompressed off-camera recording are also supported.

Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC (Near Field Connectivity) allow for easy wireless connections to smartphones and tablets in order to transfer images for sharing as well as to use your smartphone as a remote control via the free Sony PlayMemories app.

The compact magnesium alloy body of the RX-10 is moisture and dust resistant. It offers a built-in pop-up flash as well as the Sony Multi-Interface shoe for connecting flashes, microphones, lights, monitors, and other accessories. A multi-compatibility card slot enables the use of SD series, micro-SD series, and Memory Stick memory cards. A selectable click or click-less manual control ring on the lens lets you adjust numerous camera settings without taking your eye from the image and customizable buttons provides fast access to the camera settings that you need most.

20.2MP 1" Exmor R CMOS Sensor
The large, 20.2 megapixel, 1" Exmor R, CMOS sensor features backside-illuminated technology to enhance its low-light capabilities to an expanded ISO 12800 while still retaining vivid clarity. Using Sony's Column A/D Conversion, images are rendered with impressive image quality and smooth gradations between tones and colors due to the marked reduction in apparent noise.
New BIONZ X Image Processor
Also benefitting the image quality, as well as overall camera performance, is the new BIONZ X image processor. It faithfully reproduces details and rich tones with lower image noise than was previously possible. Performance speed is also impressive including full-resolution continuous shooting up to 10 fps, high-speed auto focusing and Full HD 1080i/p video recording. Still images can be recorded in JPEG or RAW file formats or both simultaneously.
Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 8.3x Optical Zoom Lens
The built-in Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 24-200mm, covering wide-angle to full telephoto perspectives to suit working in a wide variety of situations. The fast constant f/2.8 maximum aperture enables enhanced low-light capabilities as well as greater control over focus placement for selective focus imagery. The lens also features 7 aspheric elements for reduced aberrations and a Carl Zeiss T* anti-reflective coating to help minimize lens flare and ghosting in order to produce imagery with rich contrast and clarity.
Built-In Wireless and NFC Connectivity
Built-in wireless connectivity enables the RX10 to instantly transfer imagery to mobile devices for direct sharing with social networking sites, via email, and to cloud storage sites. NFC (Near Field Communication) is also supported, which allows for one-touch connection between the camera and compatible Android mobile devices; no complex set-up is required. This technology when used with the free Sony PlayMemories Mobile app also provides the ability to use Smart Remote Control, which provides for remote shutter release that is controlled by a smart device.
Full HD 1080p Video Recording with Stereo Sound
Full HD 1920 x 1080 video recording is supported in multiple frames rates, including 60p, 60i, and 24p. When recording in Full HD, the AVCHD Ver. 2.0 codec is used for highly detailed image quality that translates well to editing and sharing on HDTVs. Recording in the Internet-friendly MP4 format is also supported in 1440 x 1080 and 640 x 480 sizes at 30 fps. Manual exposure control is available in video mode. Sound is recorded during filming using the built-in stereo microphone, or additionally, an external microphone can be used in conjunction with the multi interface shoe. A headphone jack allows you to monitor sound directly from the camera and a built-in HDMI output terminal provides direct connection to your HDTV, computer, or external recorder for real-time uncompressed video recording.
High-Resolution LCD Monitor
For live view monitoring, image playback and review, and menu navigation, a 3.0" 1228K-dot LCD monitor is integrated into the camera body and features a tilting design to promote easier use from high and low angles. The screen can tilt approximately 84° up and 45° down, giving a wide range of viewing angles. The LCD also employs WhiteMagic technology, which enhances the brightness of the display for easier use in bright conditions. Real-time image adjustment can be seen on the monitor and Grid Display and Peaking can be customized for better image control.
XGA OLED Viewfinder
See spectacular clarity, contrast, and detail in every scene, regardless of conditions, on the built-in, bright, high-resolution OLED Tru-Finder electronic viewfinder. Four dual-sided aspherical lenses provide a big, 33º view angle and maintain excellent edge-to-edge visibility of the electronic viewfinder. An eye-sensor on the viewfinder senses when your eye is at the finder and illuminates it while simultaneously turning off the LCD monitor.
Smooth High Speed Autofocus
Aided by the rapid throughput of the BIONZ X image processor, auto focusing on the RX10 is fast and accurate. The Direct Drive SSM (Super Sonic Wave AF Motor) provides fast and smooth autofocus action, and Flexible Spot frames enable versatility and precision when choosing your focus spots.
Precise Autofocus Tracking and New Eye EF Function
Lock-on Autofocus precisely focuses on moving subjects by continuously adjusting target frame size based on its recognition of subject characteristics. Even when a subject goes out of frame temporarily, tracking resumes at the moment that it is recaptured after re-entering the frame. Advanced Eye Detection technology creates Eye AF Function which detects and focuses on the subject's eye even if the head is turned slightly.
Close-up Focusing
Close-up shooting is seamless and no switching to macro mode is needed. The minimum focus distance for the RX10 is a constant 11".
Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization
Optical SteadyShot image stabilization works to minimize the appearance of camera shake when working in low-light conditions or with greater zoom magnifications. The system can counter the effects of both vertical and horizontal movements, and, furthermore, Active 3-Way stabilization adds digital rolling control that balances both clockwise and counter-clockwise movements while recording videos.
Diffraction-Reducing Technology
This maintains outstanding clarity by applying aperture-appropriate filter processing to suppress and compensate for diffraction - a phenomenon that can otherwise limit photographic resolution and cause points of light to appear blurred, especially in images that have been shot using a small aperture (large f-number) setting.
Detail Reproduction Technology
By minimizing digital artifacts that tend to overemphasize hard outlines and rough edges when pictures are reproduced, detail reproduction technology makes images noticeably more natural-looking in detail, texture, and dimension.
Area-specific Noise Reduction
Noise reduction, even in images shot in low light, is individually adjusted based on imaging pattern variations for superior clarity and finer details.
Built-In Flash and Multi-Interface Shoe
A convenient pop-up flash with several flash modes is provided but the RX10 features the advanced Multi-Interface Shoe that dramatically expands compatibility with Sony digital imaging accessories such as flash units and microphones, thus increasing the potential of your photo and movie shooting.
Selectable Click/Click-Less Manual Control Ring
The manual ring gives you direct control of certain settings, zooming, and focusing, according to the focus mode in use. In addition, before turning the aperture ring to set f-stop, you can turn Aperture Click Switch on for clicked aperture adjustment or off for a quiet, smooth feel when setting the aperture. A display panel on top lets you see key settings without moving the camera as you look through the viewfinder.
Multi-Compatibility Memory Slot
The one memory card slot on the RX10 is compatible with Memory Stick PRO Duo, Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo, Memory Stick XC-HG Duo, Memory Stick Micro, Memory Stick Micro Mark 2, SD, SDHC, SDXC, microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC memory cards.
Rugged Design
Magnesium alloy top and front casings make the RX10 light, solid, and robust enough for long, rigorous use by advanced photographers and videographers. The camera's dust and moisture resistant design even allows shooting in rugged outdoor environments.
Advanced Interface and Customizable Buttons
A new, improved graphical user interface makes access to frequently used functions easier, just press the Fn button to display a list of them. In addition, seven control buttons can be customized to adjust up to 40 function types for faster, personalized access to camera controls
TRILUMINOS and 4K Compatibility
The RX10 supports Sony TRILUMINOS Color for exceptionally rich, natural colors when viewing images on a TRILUMINOS display. Also, photos can be viewed on a 4K television via HDMI or wireless output.

This camera strikes me as a quality tool. It is not a small pocket camera. It has a reassuring heft to it with excellent build quality. Still images and Video exceed my expectations. While I was at it I purchased the Carl Zeiss 62mm UV filter as well as the Tiffen Digital HT neutral density filter kit and Digital HT Circular Polarizer. These are of fantastic quality and work like a gem. The internal video mics are great for indoor use, but outdoor on a slightly windy day wind noise is present. I purchased the Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone with dead cat wind screen, all is good now for outdoor video! I recommend using the Tamrac N-45 leather padded strap, very comfy and a good upgrade for the RX-10. I would also recommend purchasing a longer USB to micro USB cable as the one provided is only about 18 inches long. Also get yourself a HDMI to micro HDMI cable to playback video on your TV. Wow, looking at pics and watching video in full 1080/60p HD is just marvelous! Very satisfied with this Sony product, not to mention all of the additional support items available from B&H!

After further use of this product I am disappointed.
The pluses are the design and build quality, the 2.8 lens and zoom range.
In any auto mode it tends to shoot everything at 2.8 which limits creativity. The limited range of the tiltable screen in only a vertical range can be frustrating. It is very, very slow to record raw images, even with high end card. So rapid shooting is slow manually in raw. Noise and sharpness are not near the quality of my beloved Sony R1 Zeiss lens. I attribute this to the small size sensor and too many pixels for its size, which I had my reservations about when buying the camera. Once again the manual and documentation are a joke (using latest RX100 third part books insufficient). I was surprised at all the 5 star ratings from other reviewers. I think they might be users of point and shoot cameras that are upgrading their cameras. Which it could be a good upgrade. But for me it certainly is a downgrade from a APS-C sensor mirror-less camera such as the outdated R1. I am interested in high quality images that can be printed to 16x20. I have not used the video at all so can't comment on it. I have been involved in photography for almost 50 years. I am not a pro that earns or cares to earn a living at photography but am an advanced photographer that felt that others should know I don't consider the RX10 as a 5 star product. Admittedly I have been spoiled by other cameras by (including Canon and Nikon) as to my expectations, especially with the quirky, outdated, out featured Sony R1.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

From a videographer's point of view the Sony RX10 is a different product and as such must be consider.
The lens is top-notch and exceptionally flexible .. also the quality of the videos it delivers is great and well above the compact bridge cameras from its own segment (and better than many DSLR's sold with cheap lens as well).
Even if you are considering to buy a Canon or Nikon's DSLR body... you still have to spend another $1000 for a comparable lens.
This camera is for people who enjoy exploring manual settings and its creative possibilities... and its also too expensive and capable to use it mostly on auto-mode by very-casual photographers.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

The RX10 works great for me for handheld ENG, documentary filmmaking as well as filming action sports on a tripod (I've only used this camera in video mode.) For handheld I use a cheap flash mount bracket with a Manfrotto quick release adapter (so that I can quickly move from hand held bracket to tripod). I have the Sony XLR-K1M adapter attached to one of the cold shoe ports on the bracket. I also have a Sennheiser G3 receiver attached for use with wireless microphone transmitter. This set up works great for run-n-gun interviews. The zoom function is very slow but I typically don't do much fast zooming. Also, because of the way the electronic focus ring works, I am unable to use a follow focus. Having Zebras and built in ND really help. The focus peaking doesn't seem to work very well and so I just leave it off and use the magnification function to focus. So far I've only used the internal avchd which works fine for me. The LCD is a bit small but works, and the EVF seems unusable for video. What I like most is how small my whole kit is now. I'm able to do almost everything I could do with a Sony EX1 but in a much smaller kit.

Used this camera on a Washington DC trip with my 5th grade son. Pictures for his scrapbook project for school were excellent. Many other dads on the trip were begging to borrow my pictures because they saw that I was getting pictures in low light that they just couldn't get with their DSLRs and kit lenses. The lens on this camera is the #1 feature of it. Love the videos that it delivers. Image stabilization allowed me to get pictures from a moving bus that would have been a blurry mess on my Nikon D7000.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

I traveled to Peru with this camera and loved it. I only had it a couple of days before the trip but the controls are so stright forward I had no issues. I even gave it to a couple of locals to use while I was unable to shoot. They loved it and both had very little photography experiance. They too had no issues with using the RX10.While hiking in a down pour near the sun gate the camera handled the rain like a pro. The videos off this camera make me look like I have years of experianced, Silky smooth zooms and pans.I had so much fun using this camera I made it a point to test all the features and modes it has to offer. I mean all of them. From the built in ND filter to the 10 FPS. I even customized the controls 4 or five different times to find my best liked layout. After thousands of shots and dozens of videos this is by far the funest and best overall experiance I have had with a camera. Sincerly,40 years of being a photo and photo equipment nut.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

I recently bought the Sony HX300 thinking/hoping it would be the answer to my photographic prayers, but it turned out to be somewhat of a letdown, not because of how it worked but rather because I didn't have my expectations in line.Like the other bridge cameras I have owned - Nikon P500, Canon Powershot S3 IS - I was simply expecting too much from the HX300. Long lenses + small sensors = mediocre images. I had been fixated on zoom power so long that I kept missing the point, so I learned something new: larger sensors + quality lenses = MUCH better pictures.I already knew that I liked the output of my Nikon D5200 with its 18-200mm lens, so when I quit making zoom power a priority it opened me up to other options, and I stumbled onto the Sony RX10.I read/watched every review on the web and ordered mine with very high expectations, and I am delighted to report that it did not disappoint in any way whatsoever. The RX10 focuses as quickly and accurately as my Nikon rig, and it handles super-close macro to full zoom and everything in between with ease. The images are just as good as any I have seen from ANY camera (and this is my 25th digital camera since 2000, so I've used a lot of them!), at least as good as my D5200 produces and I think probably better. On top of that is the great build quality. The RX10 is so much more than any other bridge camera past or present that it defies comparison. If that kind of thing matters to you, don't wait another day to buy this camera. It's got some weight to it and the narrow strap that comes with it will irritate your neck - my Tamrac Boomerang neoprene strap is perfect on it.Comparing the RX10 to any other bridge camera currently on the market is the apples/oranges thing. It has no equal. If you want the perfect blend of P&S convenience and SLR quality then look no further. What's more, nobody cam compete with Sony when it comes to video, so it's a great videocam as well, making it an even better bargain.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

I owned a NEX-6 but got tired of carrying extra lenses and equipment. I traded the NEX for the RX10 and cannot be happier with the decision! The all-in-one package works much better for my needs and this camera takes excellent photos and videos.

Every type of photo or video I take with this camera turns out great. I bought it several months ago, but have reviewed it only now due to an extended trip I took with it. It is easy to learn, and the best way to learn is experimenting. There are still features that I have to learn, even after a month's vacation with it! The lens is magnificent, and the image quality superb. If toting around several lenses with a DSLR is not for you, then this camera is!!

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

Though I bought this camera several months ago, I wanted to wait to review it until I had taken my full month cruise, and vacation to the far east. Learning to shoot a camera with this much potential is slow, and I was lucky to find a great book, ("Photographer's Guide To The Sony DSC-RX10" by Alexander S White, The camera does everything perfectly, and actually improves upon that if you use it at it's best settings. I am referring to scene settings, as opposed to auto. The lens produces great focus, as long as you are focusing on the right area. Sometimes you tend to shoot and realize that the autofocus was on a leaf in front of the person you wanted to shoot. But that is about the person pressing the shutter, not the camera. I cannot impress upon you, the reader, the image quality, the colors, the lifelike feeling the images produce. The video is flawless, and I even was able to shoot the performers during the shows onboard the cruise with no additional light. I am thrilled with this camera. I started with Sony digital in 2001, switched to Nikon in 2010, but the photos did not have the pop in them that Sony delivers. I'm back for good now!

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

I have been in broadcast television for close to 30 years and this camera is amazing. I've used the stills for head shots which then are then chopped and cut for full screen graphics. And while we use mainly C-300s and 5D MKIIIs now, I've slipped in a couple of 60P slo-mo slider shots with the RX10 and no one knows the difference. I'm not saying the Sony can stand side by side and do the same things consistently but in the right hands it's a good B camera. By itself, and not cutting with a vastly more expense setup, I would not hesitate to do an interview and some B-Roll with the RX10 for broadcast application. Again, let's be honest, in this day and age you are going to light it well and during editing you are going to use a coloring program of your choice. With that said the bare bones raw output is more than adequate for any broadcast application. That's the quality imagery coming out of this camera.
I had previously bought a Nikon D5300 and put a beautiful Sigma lens on it but out of the box the Nikon felt cheap and the tolerances did not appear to be able to handle consistent outdoor shooting. In addition the body's light weight coupled with the canon of a Sigma lens made it tremendously front heavy. I'm sure that combo would have put out excellent photos and video as well. A couple of buddies have the 5300 and it's output is fantastic. However, when I whip out my little Sony in a compact, balanced, weather proofed package I feel confident I can match anything out there within reason. And afterwards put it back in my backpack or satchel without taking up a ridiculous amount of space. Plus it was about $600-700 cheaper than the Nikon Sigma combo I returned to B&H.
Yes if you are in a pro scenario with other shooters and/or videographers they are going to look down their noses at you. But have the confidence to show up with the best bang for your buck. And remember, you don't always have to have the biggest in the locker room if you know what I mean. Results are what count. Realistically, I say the RX10's output is on par with the 7D. Although the 7D is faster and has more AF sensors. Video wise the RX10 is as good as 90% of the 50MBPS palm corders out there. And as I wrote earlier, if you are a pro or even a semi pro you will be using a program to alter your raw images and video.
So here's the bottom line, I am more of a videographer than a photographer. Video wise, when used in a controlled environment and colored after the fact, you can attain broadcast quality. Still wise, the RX10 has a lot more competition. Nevertheless, you will not be disappointed when comparing the quality of the RX10 vs similarly priced cameras. I have purchased and used just about every make or model video camera to come along. This is my first venture into a still/video camera and I am amazed at the quality. And after all the talk about output quality I have left out the best thing about the RX10...it's compact all in one weather resistant footprint...Sony camera and Carl Zeiss lens working together in perfect synergy like peanut butter and jelly. Double thumbs up.

I was looking for an alternative to lugging around my full-sized DSLR and lenses. I had begun to notice that I was leaving my camera behind due to it being cumbersome, but I realized I was missing great photo opportunities. I wanted a camera capable of producing full sized prints with a fast lens. This camera provides both. The bonus is that it also produces high quality video. Better than a super zoom, it's sensor is capable of capturing photos you can print out rather than only display on a monitor. I've printed out 13 x 19 inch prints and they are of high quality.

This was purchased to replace my Panasonic GH2...

I've only had this camera for a couple of weeks - I am an Event Videographer, and bought this to shoot parts of wedding videos such as bride's preps, and for some high shots on a raised monopod during a reception. As long as you're aware of the 29 minute limitation as far as length of a single clip, it works very well.

I will also use it as a still camera to capture much higher resolution stills for my disc faces, dvd liners, website, etc.

Overall, with only a small amount of test footage shot, I'm very impressed at this early stage.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

I work with Nikon full frame & CMOS cameras when not using 2 1/4 film cameras. I was looking for a great TRAVEL camera that would be light weight with: a decent sized sensor, a viewfinder, a good zoom range with a fast lens (f2.8), work well at night or in dark interiors, and have an articulating screen. The RX10 answered all those demands & more. I carried it all day without feeling encumbered. Remember, I am used to DSLR with heavy lenses; so by comparison it's a featherweight. It's buttons & menu system were straightforward & easy to navigate. I frequently changed WB, ISO (what a range!), and other settings with ease.

The zoom is leisurely as reviewed, but it rarely caused a missed shot. What did was the image record time, which caused the camera to be a beat too slow when taking a quick 2nd shot & I missed the moment at times. However, there was no shutter lag for the 1st shot, & it's silent, a big plus in candids. I had to recharge the battery each night after a day of being on all the time. I always travel with at least one spare, so this wasn't a problem. Also, I thoroughly enjoyed it's video capability and used the panoramic more than I thought I would.

A lot of debate revolves around the cost, which is high. BUT, the functionality the RX10 provides really can't be addressed by any other camera out there. I did lots of research before making the decision. And found nothing else appropriate for my needs.

After reviewing the images at home, I am mostly pleased with the results. I have yet to print any Raw images, but they look sharp with good tonal range on my iMac. I really liked the feel of the camera & highly recommend it. The Zeiss lens gives awesome results!

Read many reviews before deciding to get this camera. Having an optical viewfinder and the Zeiss lens was a bonus. I have only had this camera for less than a week, but it is easy to use, takes great photos. I also wanted a pS that would take macro shots. So far so good, and the movies have turned out great too.

I traded my alpha 99 for this and I don't regret it. This camera is by far the best I ever had. The video is just amazing. And I don't need to carry around ton of lenses.

                          Good Riddance DSLR.

                          Well Done Sony!

The camera feels just right in terms of size and weight. Focusing is fast and the shutter is noticeably quieter which is a plus in in areas or situations requiring silence. Photos come out crisp, have good contrast and the colors are excellent. The zoom ring takes some getting used to and is a bit slow but shouldn't be a concern except with sports or action shots. The camera is a bit pricey but if you can get past that then it's quite a gadget.

An incredibly versatile camera with a great lens/sensor combo. I've had a number of DSLR's and Micro 4/3rds cameras, and this is the most amazing digital camera yet for me. Everything I want on a fairly compact package, without the hassle of carrying and changing extra lenses. Prints a gorgeous 12X18 300 dpi image without any re-sizing on my Epson R3000. Not just a camera that does it all - it does it all well.

This is my new carry everywhere camera and although not small it pack a great punch. Good wide angle range, very usable zoom and produces high quality images and videos, the Zeiss lens is outstanding. Very impressive results and no need to carry additional lenses or concerns of field lens changing.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

I researched cameras for about a year before deciding of the RX10. I have an older Nikon that I really liked, but wanted to get away from changing lenses, after taking a kayak trip with my son. I was constantly changing lenses trying to get some wildlife shots along with landscape shots. That's when I started looking at something that would accomplish both well. I also wanted to get something that would take good videos as well. No camera that I had researched did what I was looking for until the RX10. I love everything about it. It would be nice to have a little bit longer reach on the telephoto, but it will do probably 95% of what I want to shoot. It'll take a little while to learn all the many settings the menus offer you, but I think that most of it is easily understood will a little time. It seems to do everything that I had anticipated. The ONLY problem was that on the third day that I had it, when I turned it on to use it, it would not focus properly. Wow, was I bummed! It would kind of focus, but would not "beep", and the focus seemed to waver in and out. B&H was very good at responding to my concern about the camera, and quickly sent me what I needed to ship it back to them for a new replacement. One thing that I decided to do after this experience, was to buy the 3 year replacement insurance, just to make sure. I'm sure that this is just a fluke. At least I hope so! I think it is a great camera for what I'm going to use it for. I'm 65 years old, and love to take pictures! I take mostly landscape, but take also wildlife, and macro. I have many grandchildren that the video is going to come in very handy also, since I don't have that on my older Nikon. I'm going to enjoy having a camera that I don't have to worry about carrying around more than one lens. This camera is quite a bit smaller than my old one also which is nice, and the build quality feels very capable of standing up to a lot of hard use. Oh, and I should mention that it can take 1:1 macro shots which it great too.
