The 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens from Sigma is a wide-angle to medium telephoto zoom lens with a constant f/4 aperture. It is designed for both full frame and crop sensor Nikon DSLR cameras.

The lens integrates three aspherical elements into its construction as well as two SLD and two FLD glass elements to help minimize aberration, field curvature, and distortions throughout the zoom range as well as provide greater image sharpness while avoiding reduced peripheral brightness. Super Multi-Layer Coating has also been applied to lens elements to reduce surface reflections, lens flare, and ghosting to produce images with higher contrast and color fidelity.

The barrel of the lens is constructed from a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material that offers minimal thermal shrinkage and exceptional hardness. For autofocus, a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) delivers high speed focus with minimal noise, making it well suited for continuous shooting and video recording.

An optimized algorithm offers smooth auto focusing with full-time manual focus override.
A brass mount combines high precision with rugged construction, adding durability to the lens.
The lens is compatible with Sigma's USB Dock and Sigma Optimization Pro software for adjusting focus position, and updating its firmware to better suit your needs.
The rounded 9-blade diaphragm produces aesthetic bokeh at both large and small apertures.

I just visited the store to compare Nikon 24-70 2.8 and Sigma 24-105 today - plus I also used basic 50mm 1.4 lens at a same spot. Briefly Sharpenss - 50>sigma 24-105>nikon 24-70. Constrast(let me say,, vivid color) sigma 24-105 > 50 > Nikon 24-70. Auto Focus speed and smooth Nikon 24-70 > Sigma 24-105 > Tamron 24-70 > Sigma 24-70 (Only one reason I couldn't get sigma 24-70 was very slow auto focus but this new lens has pretty fastauto focus with NO SOUND. I am doing wedding photography for weekend job and am a professional photographer who has had several exhibitions. Most of case I use a fixed lens such as Samyang / Zeiss with D800 or film cameras from Mamiya 7II to an 8x10 camera for my personal work so I do know how to check and find a right lens for me.Here is my suggestion and some tips for you who has considered and can't make a decision what to buy. If you are dying for 2.8F, then go for 24-70 with any company for your budget. If you don't really need 2.8F, GO FOR this new Sigma 24-105. Sharpness. Fast and silent auto focus. Only $. There is nothing you need to hesitate to get this, unless you really need 2.8. For wedding? I guess only situation you really need 2.8 is when you shoot in a church because constant flash isn't allowed in most the case. Can you cover it with other lens or slwo shutter speed with 1600iso? Then go ahead. Dude, this lens can even cover upto 105mm. Say good bye to the freaking heavy 70(80)-200. P.S This lens is really fat.. It seems very slim and neat from the "profile picture" but don't believe it. It is one of the most chubby lens. (but 1oz lighter than Nikon 24-70)

First copy of the lens I got had a severe front focus I could not even correct with Sigma USB dock. They allow -20/+20 focus correction, but the lens needed at least 25! So I exchanged the lens for another copy. The second copy also had front focus, but not as bad as the first one. The biggest correction I needed was 18. I own several Nikon and Tamron lenses I use with my D600, and I've never seen such issues with AF. Did I get two "lemons" in the row? Without the correction the lens was clearly inferior to Nikon 24-85 VR. By using the USB dock I was able to adjust the AF so that the Sigma slightly beats the Nikon kit lens at shorter focal lengths, and is noticeably better at longer zoom. But it took me many-many hours to do so. I'm going to try to add a screenshot of the correction I had to do.My other complaint about the lens is its weight. It seem that a decent part of the lens is made out of metal, however, I doubt it makes the lens any stronger, and I would not feel comfortable dropping this lens. And the fact that it has no weather sealing of any kind makes me wonder why couldn't Sigma go with more plastic. The extra weight does not make this lens a high-end lens anyway.Considering the weight, absence of weather sealing, price, bad quality control, and the long painful process of correcting AF I feel that this lens is at best 2.5 stars. Unfortunately for people who want a general-purpose walk-around lens that could go past 70mm there are not that many choices. Nikon 24-85 and Nikon 24-120 (overpriced considering not so ideal performance) are the only alternatives. And only because of this lack of better alternatives I will give the lens 3 stars instead of 2.I will probably keep the lens just because I've put too much effort into adjusting it. I, however, would not recommend anyone to buy it unless you know how to test and adjust it, and unless you are prepared to keep exchange the lens until you find a reasonable copy. If you just want to buy something and be done with it then save some money and stick with Nikon 24-85.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

I've shot about 60k photos with my D600 and the 24-85 kit lens. I mostly photograph landscapes and portraits. I decided to get the Sigma because I wanted to "up my game." I believed, perhaps naively, that this big piece of glass would expose a new world to my D600. Colors would pop more, everything would be sharper, and bokeh would be better. Goodbye kit lens, hello pro lens.Even at 100% zoom, I found it difficult to tell the difference between the Sigma 24-105 and the Nikon 24-85. Both appear to take similar photos. Yes, the Sigma 24-105 is sharp, but how much sharper than your other full-frame lenses? Both lenses give pretty much the same color, sharpness, and bokeh. Will the Sigma be sharper in the corner? Yes, but when was the last time you needed to use the corner? If your subject is in focus, especially in landscapes, then corner sharpness won't draw positive or negative attention. Pros for the Sigma 24-105+ Well built. Tight tolerances, zoom ring feels perfect.+ Pretty good Optical Stabilization, but not as good as Nikon's+ Great Bokeh, especially @105 mm+ Good focal range.Cons for the Sigma 24-105- I found my 2012 D600 draining battery 2x the normal rate. There are similar reports from Nikon users on DPreview. After 150 shots the battery would be down a tick mark. At 300 shots it would be at 50% or less. Some speculate it's the Optical Stability System running.- Heavy and big. I thought I wouldn't notice the weight, but it's there. I got used to it on the D600, and it does give the whole camera a nice heft, but you will feel this lens when you're hauling it around on a strap. Although I've never used one, this lens seems more appropriate for a bigger body like a D4.- Occasionally, the lens refuses to autofocus, but this went away after the first 1000 shots.- Occasionally the autofocus would hunt excessively- Strong distortions and vignetting at 24mm, but I guess this is an acceptable fact for lenses with such ranges. The price difference is dramatic enough that I would recommend going with the Nikon 24-85. The Nikon is lighter, smaller, has more reliable VR, and takes comparable photos. Don't let the words 'kit lens' fool you. Nonetheless, the Sigma delivered excellent photos.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

For what it is, an all around, cost effective lens covering a wide focal range, it is quite decent. Not sure it deserves the "Art" label compared with the other uncompromising lenses in the lineup though.I like to use this lens for mostly video. For photos, preferably, I use either the 35mm or 50mm Art. When the situation I am working in does not allow me full control, I grab this lens. There has been much talk about a future super wide and all around Art lenses. I will not be interested in them if they do not surpass this lens significantly. This lens is what it is, very comparable with it's Canon/Nikon counterpart, but slightly better, especially in the centre.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

I bought this lens along with Nikon D610 after very long analysis and study. I was much confused about the lens I should buy with D610 and I almost went for Nikon 24-120 f4 which was much costly. But, after considering many reviews especially ------------- also, I chatted with experts from B&H, Cameta Camera etc and also some semi-professionals who are also my friends, I decided to go with Sigma 24-105 f4. Now I am very much glad about that decision. The reasons are listed below, which may help you to make a decision.1. This lens covers a good range 24-105, which makes it perfect for an all round lens.2. Especially good for Landscape and portrait Photos.3. Exceptionally sharp at centre.3. Fast & very smooth autofocus.4. Study finish compared to even costly lenses like nikon 24-120 f4. It seems more durable too.5. Far cheaper than alternative options with similar quality.6. Wonderful optical stabilization. It is not causing blur for handheld shots at shutter speed 30, F16, in moderate light which can be considered as very best. The only porblem (which I don't worry) is that the lens is bit heavy. So, why you want to wait???Go ahead and purchase sigma 24-105.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

First of all... I just want to make clear that I am not a professional... just a photo freak amateur who moved from a DX5300 to the FX D750...

I just took a couple of pictures with this lens only... less than 15.... and I can said that every good review about the IQ is true. it is amazing! the Focus is really fast!

BUT.... please pay attention with the weight of this lens... it is pretty heavy and BIG!...

This for sure is not a lens that you can use on a 5-6-7 hours wedding... you will break your wrist...

other than that "cons".. i dont see anything bad with this lens... the construction is really good...

I will give this lens a 4 star just because of the weight... maybe 4.5...

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

I was using a Nikon 24-120mm f/4 lens as a walk-around zoom and just wasn't happy with how soft it was. Can't afford the Nikon 24-70. In looking for a replacement I shot the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 and this Sigma 24-105 alongside my Nikon 24-120, all hand held at various focal lengths, indoors. Both the Tamron and the Sigma were sharper than the Nikon 24-120. I really wanted to like the Tamron but found the images "flat" in appearance, the color saturation lacking, and I found the image stabilization not as good as the Sigma. The Tamron was brighter, but that was the only thing I liked about it. The Sigma's image stabilization was great, the colors were similar to Nikon color, and it was more consistently sharp. I've shot about 200 images so far and I'm very happy with it. The only downsides so far: it is a heavy lens, it focuses in the opposition direction as Nikon, and won't fit in my bag with the hood on, which is why I gave it 4 stars. However, even though it's weighty it balances well on my D610. This is a very good lens at a great price.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

Since I've always used Nikkor lenses in the past, I spent a great deal of time comparing the Sigma 24-105 to Nikon's 24-70 and 24-120. Since purchasing the Sigma lens, I've been on 2 major trips and taken well over 3,000 photos. In analyzing my pictures, my satisfaction and confidence with this lens continues to grow. Outstanding clarity throughout the range. Solid feel on my D610. Heavier, yes, but I expect a great lens to be so. Please, Sigma, continue to produce quality lenses. I'm now fully open to using 3rd party gear.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

I used this lens for a trip out west and while a little heavy it has given me wonderful results especially under good lighting conditions. The OS is a huge plus in low light and video situations. I have this lens paired with a Nikon 610 so it is a commitment to use while hiking, but the results, paired with a comfortable neck strap, are worth the effort.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

The Sigma 24-105 F/4 DG OS HSM lens will be used as my everyday lens mounted upon my Nikonn d800e..

The zoom range of this lens is ideal for an everyday, all around lens. Albeit photos thus far have been less than being totally sharp, I am certain that once after I've hooked this lens up to my Sigma USB Dock, corrections made will bring this lens into total sharpness!

OS works so well I can shot handheld at 1/15th of a second.

Great all purpose lens. I do use this extensively with video and I am equally happy in that regard.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

This lens is sharp. It does have it's issues like all zoom lenses do but in reality it handles them better than most. I looked at all of the lenses in this category as well as those in the 24-70mm range. I narrowed the group down to the Sigma 24-105 and the Nikon 24-120, and though I have beeb a lifelong Nikon user the bottom line was that the Sigma out preformed the the Nikon glass. I would buy this lens again. The Sigma build quality is first rate. The lens is heavy but that just keeps me in shape with all the other glass in my backpack. I also own the Sigma 12-24mm f/4 as well.

I received this lens today and have never been more impressed by any brand of lens. Everyone is reporting how sharp this lens is, and it is. I expected that, but the OS is incredible. I can hand hold my D610 with this lens at 105mm and shutter at 1/15 second and get sharp shots time after time. At 70 years my steadiness is not what it once was; I am really enjoying the OS.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

It seems that I have been waiting for a Nikon version of this lens since my brief foray into Canon World a few years ago, where I really enjoyed using the Canon version of this focal length range. This Sigma version is better than the Canon and considerably better than the closest Nikon lens, the 24-120 f4. Indeed, it is heavy and bulky, but the payoff of excellent IQ and precision operation is, for me, well worth the trade-off. I was fortunate enough to have the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 to compare this lens to and at the same focal lengths and f-stops (f4, -f8), this lens equalled or surpassed (consistently better at f4)the Nikon and with the addition of the OS feature and the additional range, for my use this lens clearly is a better option than the beloved Nikon (I sold mine used for $ more than the cost of the new Sig). The Nikon 24-70 weighing in at about the same as the Sigma, is no doubt an excellent optic, but at but at twice the cost new, for many, I think the Sigma is a worthy competitor. The testing of some reviews, point out a softness at the margins of this lens' images, but in my real world shooting experience I am not seeing anything to be concerned about.

                            Sigma's Art Line really impresses!

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

I've owned this lens for about 4 months now, and I must say, I LOVE this thing. If you're a Canon user, this lens is miles ahead of the aging Canon 24-105. And if you're a Nikon user like myself, you'll find it better than the 24-120, and cheaper as well. The construction is top notch (if not slightly heavy, but hey I'm willing to accept that for the quality), the images are superb and crisp, and the OS is wonderful. I've used this for a couple family photo shoots and they have turned out GREAT. Do yourself a favor and save some money over a 24-70 f/2.8 if you really don't need it. The extra stop loss of light is more than made up for by the Optical Stabilization, and the extra 35mm on the long end is very helpful when using this lens as a day to day walk around lens. I'd say the only drawbacks, as I mentioned above, are that the lens is definitely on the heavy side, but nothing I can't handle with a BlackRapid strap on my shoulder all day long. I did notice a slight tendency for lens creep when walking around with it all day hanging off my BlackRapid, but this honestly may have been more of a problem with my leg hitting the lens hood and slowly causing the lens to extend. It's going to stay put when you're shooting, definitely. The only other down is a slight degradation of image quality at 105mm, but this is negligible. I am quite picky when it comes to lenses, but I have little bad to say about this new Art line of Sigma's so far. The 24-105 lives on my camera about 80% of the time. If I were you, I'd pick one of these up ASAP!
