The sensor design omits the traditional optical low-pass filter in order to gain the utmost sharpness and resolution from both photos and videos. Complementing the imaging assets are both a versatile 39-point autofocus system, with nine cross-type sensors, and a 2,016-pixel RGB sensor for precise exposure metering in a wide variety of lighting conditions. Additionally, 1920 x 1080p movie recording is supported, in multiple frame rates up to 60 fps, with full-time continuous auto focusing capabilities.

The compact, yet durably designed, camera body incorporates both an optical pentamirror optical viewfinder along with a large 3.2" 1,037k-dot vari-angle LCD monitor, which features a 180° swivel design to better support working from high and low angles. Also integrated into the D5300 are both Wi-Fi and GPS modules, which enable advanced image sharing capabilities as well as location-based image tagging. When paired with an Android or iOS mobile device, remote viewing and control over the shutter release is possible from a distance and a vast network of pre-populated Points of Interest adds to the overall geotagging functionality.

For creatively enhancing the look and feel of imagery in-camera, a wide range of Picture Control modes, Scene Modes, and Special Effects modes are available as well as a host of in-camera image editing capabilities for adjusting settings prior to sharing. Built-in HDR and Active D-Lighting modes can also be used to optimize exposure results by preserving highlight and shadow details for an extended range of apparent tones.

Included with the D5300 body is the wide-angle to telephoto zoom AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-140mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens, which features VR image stabilization to minimize camera shake to suit working in dimly-lit conditions and with longer focal lengths. One aspherical element and one extra-low dispersion element are integrated into the lens' design to minimize aberrations and optimize image sharpness and an SWM autofocus mechanism is used to acquire focus quickly, silently, and accurately.

Comments about Nikon D5300 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm Lens (Black):

I have a Nikon D40X and decided it was time to upgrade. After several calls to B&H (Abraham was a great help) I settled on the D5300. Was going to get the 5200 because of the lower price but Abraham told me you need an adapter for the 5200 to have WiFi. It's built in the 5300 so that made the decision for me - not sure if I will use WiFi (probably will)but having it built in is less to carry around. The speed with which it takes pictures is what I noticed first - I like that. And, I really like the 18 - 140 lens that came with the camera body. I was concerned about the weight but it's not bad. I also like the "effect" and "scene" options - I think I will use some of these. I am trying to go totally manual but these scene options may be a good try. The thing I wish this camera had is separate buttons for shutter speed and aperture but I can deal with the setup on the 5300. The weight of the camera body is good and the grip is nice, too. All in all, I am delighted with my purchase.

Comments about Nikon D5300 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm Lens (Black):

I'm very happy with this camera so far. Body + lens are about 1kg, so it's a bit on the heavier side for my use (a lot of outdoor photography) but manageable. One thing I especially like is how little noise the sensor has. This reflects in excellent low-light (and really anything-other-than-sunny-light) perfomance.

Comments about Nikon D5300 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm Lens (Black):

This camera makes it incredibly easy to get great pics in all situations. I am not shooting for $ or as an advanced hobbiest. I want to be able to get family type pics that I can print or use no matter how good or poor the lighting. I want to get sports/action pics of my kids. For non-pro use, let it go to ISO 6400 and you can still get quite acceptable pics. Shoot under ISO 2000 and be amazed at the image quality. The auto white balance is very good. The 18-140 lens is a little bulky but the range is really nice and mostly eliminates the need to lens swap in everyday situations. The lens is quite sharp even at 140mm and is very high quality with the metal mount and smooth zoom. The Bokeh is pleasant and portrait type shots are easy given the sharpness of the lens in the portrait range.

Comments about Nikon D5300 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm Lens (Black):

This camera is amazing it's ease of use will come handy to starters but don't be fooled by me say ease of use the images it captures is amazing they are so clear. I am a amateur and take picture of sports and nature some of the hardest images to capture with good clarity. If you do buy this camera make sure to buy a lens hood because that is the one thing in packaging it lacks be sure to get the 67mm lens hood. It takes time to get used to the articulating screen and which way it rotates so until you are fluent in knowing which way to spin it to close and open I recommend opening and closing it softly so you do not break it. Also I use the mode which is Aperture Priority and the shutter is quick but remember if you use the S mode Shutter Priority the images will usually be dark or faded. The RAW images are amazing I don't use JPEG so I don't how those images are like but I imagine they are good to. The 18-140 lens is great they combined the 18-55 and the 55-200 lens together yes you lose 60mm but when you take the shot you can barely recognize if you are looking for one lens to walk around with and take picture of everything from birds on the sidewalk to a group of people this is the lens.

Comments about Nikon D5300 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm Lens (Black):

This is my first DSLR and I am very pleased with it. I had been using basic point-and-shoots for ever, and this is just far more fun. I'm amazed at how fast it autofocuses, and how good pictures are in low light. Also, the ability to snap a bunch of pictures in quick succession is great. I'm amazed at the quality of the pictures in general. This camera removes all the frustrations I had with the cheap digital ones. I've had it for a few weeks now.

Why this camera? I was deciding between the Canon T5i, Canon T3i, Canon SL1, and the Nikon D3300, and leaning towards the D3300 because it seemed to have newer electronics. I went in to B&H thinking I'd get the D3300 and an extra lens or two, and the person suggested I look at this D5300 as well. I decided in favor of the D5300 because I liked the 18-140mm kit lens compared to the options with the D3300. I came down on the side of getting the best single lens that was in my budget, and waiting until I know the camera more before deciding what other lenses to buy. This lens will keep me busy for a while and it captures close up and distance much, much better than anything I'm used to.

Everything worked great out of the box, and I have enjoyed getting familiar with the camera. There are enough features and settings to keep me tinkering for a long time. It seems like you will be rewarded with better pictures, the more time and practice you put into it. The only feature I miss from my $100 digital camera is a panorama mode. I figure there's software that can stitch that together if I really want it.

I also picked up the ML-L3 wireless remote control along with this. It's very convenient. There's also a smartphone app you can download and then you connect to the camera by WiFi. It's alright, but compared to just using the little remote button it's awkward.

This camera comes with both WiFi and GPS. I'm still not entirely sure how much use I'll get out of those. Time will tell. In any case, with the whole bundled sale price, it didn't feel like I was paying too much for the extra features.

For the money, this camera is hard to beat. I did a lot of research before upgrading from the D5000. I wanted to get as good of video quality as I could without breaking the bank. So far, I'm very satisfied. I thought the video effects would be more of a novelty, but they have turned out to be an easy way to get what is normally done in post.Along with the kit lens, I bought the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX Lens. I've been having a lot of fun with that lens.

Comments about Nikon D5300 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm Lens (Black):

I've been using this camera for about a month and I can not say enough about it except that I have a lot to learn. The GPS and log tracker works great for my hikes and tracing your hike on google maps is neat. Get an extra battery though because it will use it up when you have this function turned on. It is a great camera.

I've only used this camera a few times since getting it but so far I like it. I took some great shots of my girls soccer game with no blur in the action shots & I love the wifi feature to transfer pics straight to my phone without having to use a computer/cable/SD card.

This is a great camera with no anti-alias filter. It takes great pictures and has good quality. The kit lens is amazing and sharp. I only give it 4 starts because of lack of manual button to control the features.

Comments about Nikon D5300 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm Lens (Black):

My last camera was a Sony A55 with a Sigma 18-250 lens. Even though I felt that the lens in some situations was a trade-off in respects to image quality (especially sharpness), I really was fond of this combo as changing lenses (while travelling etc.) is not an option at the moment. Unfortunately the A55 body got damaged and I needed a replacement. I asked B&H for advice (see below) and they recommended the D5300 with the 18-140 lens. Still quite fond of Sony, I again got in touch with B&H telling about my affection for the Sony A77. B&H once again recommended the D5300 for my use and so I gave it a try, but included the Nikon version of the Sigma 18-250 in my order. 5 days later, I received the shipment from B&H here in Norway. I´ve been using the Nikon for a couple of days now with both the Nikon kit lens and the Sigma. Personally, I do prefer the Sigma both in regards the zoom range and the colors produced. But still, the Nikon lens is really nice. Coming form a DSLT I instantly missed the live view of the Sony. This was really a fantastic feature and I have to get reacquainted with the small optical viewfinder. It might sound a bit harsh, but Nikons live view on the LCD is a joke - it's slow and inaccurate. BUT, the optical viewfinder is perfect and allows composing pictures perfectly, it's just not as comfortable as using the LCD screen, especially when you are wearing glasses. The pictures produced by the Nikon-Sigma-combo are surprisingly crisp and with nature true-to-live color reproduction. Especially taking into account the use of the travel-zoom Sigma, the images are amazing.Low-light performance is quite astonishing.Settings are easily accessible and the menus are logical. The Nikon body is nice to hold and nicely balanced, even though space between the camera grip and the lens is rather limited, resulting in your fingers getting somehow stuck. The Nikon can be used as a point-and-shot-camera, but invites to explore the world of photography to a higher extend as my previous Sony A55.All in all I'm glad I listened to B&H and got the D5300 and not the A77 (which by now has become quite old in terms of date of release).Part of my original question send to B&H:The problem is, I really don't know in which direction to go. I love taking pictures in all situations, indoors, outdoors and often in low-light conditions. With a child in the house, video-functionality and high fps (the Sony could shoot at a rate of 10 fps) as well as GPS and a swivel-mounted display are so to speak a must. In regards to the lens, the Sigma was just perfect for my use, but a faster lens would be nice - even though some of the zoom range would have to be scarified. So getting to the point, what I'm looking for is a camera that offers the specs of the Sony a55, but more refined, faster and most of all more reliable. Any feedback from your side would be highly appreciated.

This camera does it all..with ease and with the quality you've come to expect from Nikon. Pictures are amazing, video is exactly like being there. The manual functions for those more advanced are intuitive and precise. An excellent camera for that person taking it to the next level but able to take what many professionals would be jealous of.

Comments about Nikon D5300 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm Lens (Black):

I recently purchased the Nikon d5300 and I love it. I upgraded from a Sony Alpha 300. The image quality in low light is impeccable and the addition of video is amazing. The only feature that I have a complaint about is the mildly slow refresh when shooting in Live View. The lens is a fantastic piece of glass and the wide range of ISO gives me the ability to capture much better images in low light. The in-camera HDR and other effects allows me a wider range of creativity without the use of Photoshop. I currently use the camera on a daily basis for my job as a Graphic Designer/Photographer for a local Visitors Bureau. This means I do a variety of shots from landscapes, to architecture, to inside restaurants and/or hotels. This camera will definitely give me an edge and upgrade my ability to produce professional quality images and take my design/photography to the next level. I am beyond pleased.
