Product Highlights
  • Decrease Minimum Focus Distance
  • +3 Diopter Lens
  • Rugged Black Brass Filter Ring
  • Single Anti-Reflection Coating
  • High-Quality Schott Glass

The B+W 62mm Close-up +3 Lens (NL3) is a close-up diopter lens which allows you to decrease the minimum focus distance on any lens, in turn increasing the effective maximum reproduction ratio of your lens. Additionally, you can combine close-up lenses to increase their strength and to fine tune your close-up settings.

With its +3 diopter, the near-focusing distance of this close-up lens begins at 33cm (13") from the front rim, regardless of the focal length of the main lens. When close-ups have to be taken because of the wide-angle effect of a 35mm lens, the NL3 close-up lens is ideal for a seamless extension of the normal close-up range up to approximately 1:5.5.

B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter has a single anti-reflective coating, which helps to improve light transmission to over 98% while preventing internal reflections and ghosting. Additionally, it features a brass filter ring for increased durability as well as jamming prevention.

This filter decreases the minimum focus distance of any lens, providing macro-like results.
The maximum magnification achieved with these attachments will depend on the focal length of your lens as well as the actual close focusing capability of that particular lens

      Comments about B+W 62mm Close-up +3 Lens (NL3):

With the filter my lens (18-250mm) minimum focus distance decreased from about 14" to about 12", measured from the back of the camera to the target object. Doesn't sound like much, but makes a significant difference in the image size. Not as much as expected, but satisfactory for me. But I'm just experimenting, not trying to capture huge closeups of bugs ...One thing I didnt realize is that with the filter on, the distance focus is severely limited. With the filter on, I can't focus beyond a meter or so away. So if you're catching butterfly closeups and that alien spaceship flies overhead ... you're not going to get it.Another caveat - the depth of field across the image is severely affected. Focus is not sharp across the entire frame with this filter. That may be good or bad depending on what you're doing. That may also be largely due to the fact that I'm taking pics with a 250mm lens at a distance of a foot or so :) DOF is so shallow at this magnification that a tripod becomes almost mandatory. For me, this is a fun toy while I save up for a dedicated macro lens.

      Comments about B+W 62mm Close-up +3 Lens (NL3):

have not had a lot of chances to use this filter yet -- played with it a little and it looks like it will be something I'll enjoy using when macro shots present themselves. Definitely a good quality filter, arrived [...] with a case to keep it in. So far I'm very pleased with it.
