Product Highlights
  • Fits HERO, HERO2, and HERO3
  • Handheld Mechanical Stabilization
  • Provides Isolation from Shake/Vibration
  • Helps Reduce "Rolling Shutter"
  • Handle Folds for Transport
  • Requires LCD BacPac

The black Steadicam Curve a gimbal-based handheld stabilizer for GoPro HERO, HERO2, and HERO3 action cameras. It requires the LCD BacPac for proper balance and monitoring.

Once properly balanced, the Steadicam Curve is designed to allow you to capture extremely smooth shots without restricting your range of movement. Since the HERO models the Curve is compatible with lack optical image stabilization, a mechanical stabilizer such as this is the only way to truly avoid shaky footage when shooting handheld, and it can also help reduce some of the motion-induced "jello effect"--wobbly, distorted video--caused by the GoPro's "rolling-shutter" CMOS sensor.

The Steadicam Curve is a scaled down version of its bigger sibling, the Merlin, its size and form-factor designed to be in keeping with the compact, dynamic nature of the GoPro camera. When not in use, the handle tucks away beneath the camera mount, locking to the frame. In this folded configuration the Curve acts as a handle allowing you tote the camera around and can even function as an alternative camera rig for those shots where a handheld look is desired without sacrificing the control a rig provides.

Comments about Steadicam Curve for GoPro HERO Action Cameras (Black):

I have a Steadicam Smoothie that works great, but due to its somewhat large size and awkward shape, it's not very convenient to carry around. The Curve, with its smaller form factor, would be something that I could carry in my backpack at all times. I knew it wouldn't perform as well as the Smoothie, but better to have it than nothing at all. It costs about two thirds the price of the Smoothie but performs only half as well. Almost useless if there is any wind. There are probably better options for the money.

Comments about Steadicam Curve for GoPro HERO Action Cameras (Black):

The Steadicam Curve for the GoPro Hero is what you'd expect. It is small, light and versatile. Turns tend to float off horizontal a bit, but the action is smooth and even pretty good when running. It's not something you can use for a long period of time because of the way you have to hold it, but it will give you some great shots. Who can complain for the price? This kind of gadget for delivering this kind of quality video was pie in the sky 20 years ago!

Just purchased this steadicam curve before our family cruise and can't wait to try it out. Takes some time calibrating it, but once you get it it's ready to go. Love the handle lock feature. Nothing negative to report at this time about this product. Make sure you use the LCD backpack so it works how is supposed to.

Poor handle material, good for indoors activities. Don't recommended for outdoors it's very sensitive for the wind.

            Digital stabilizers are better

Comments about Steadicam Curve for GoPro HERO Action Cameras (Black):

This gadget is an attempt to provide stabilization thru mechanical means since the GoPros have no digital stabilization. But the end result is not as good as a decent camera like the Canon V1X1A, which has a terrific dynamic stabilizer.

I'll challenge anyone to beat the Canon in video stability using only a GoPro with the Curve.

The Curve is hard to balance and has to be re-balanced if you change the cam's configuration, like adding a video display or changing the backdoor. There may not be enough spare weights in the package to compensate.

I wasn't able to get it to "glide" in the same plane without using anotther finger or a second hand, which means you are introducing another motion when what you want is to reduce other motions. It takes a lot of practice and skill to make it work.

The professional Steadicams are great, but are a full body harness. If you can afford those, get one. But this poor imitation is not worth the money. Get a cam with a digital stabilizer instead and put your GoPro to work other places.

Comments about Steadicam Curve for GoPro HERO Action Cameras (Black):

Steadicam works good. The only problem is in high winds it gets moved like a wind vane so you gotta use your finger to keep it in place. It take a lot of practice and like all other video stabilizers it will take you a few weeks to get used to it. Construction is good and it is super light and does not catch much attention which is excellent. A must for walking shots with the GoPro if you want smooth moving footage.

Comments about Steadicam Curve for GoPro HERO Action Cameras (Black):

It's amazing how these stabilizers get smaller and smaller without compromising their abilities. I first saw this product at CES 2014. I bought one as soon as it was available and I love it. Built and setup for the GoPro, it's a joy to operate. Now it's possible to take better dynamic shots of those scenes in tight spaces. Although they work on the same principle as those bigger models, it takes practice to achieve the awesome shots it is capable of.
