Questions? Ask our experts:

The B+W 62mm Close-up +5 Lens (NL5) is a close-up diopter lens which allows you to decrease the minimum focus distance on any lens, in turn increasing the effective maximum reproduction ratio of your lens. Additionally, you can combine close-up lenses to increase their strength and to fine tune your close-up settings.

With a +5 diopter, the NL 5 serves for the seamless extension of the range provided by the NL 3 close-up lens on a 35mm main lens (up to approx. 1:3.5). If you can tolerate a small gap after the NL2 close-up lens on a 50mm main lens (approx. 1:4.4-1:4), then you enter a little farther into the macro range with the NL 5 instead of the NL 4 (up to approx. 1:2.6).

B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. This filter has a single anti-reflective coating, which helps to improve light transmission to over 98% while preventing internal reflections and ghosting. Additionally, it features a brass filter ring for increased durability as well as jamming prevention.

This filter decreases the minimum focus distance of any lens, providing macro-like results.
The maximum magnification achieved with these attachments will depend on the focal length of your lens as well as the actual close focusing capability of that particular lens

      Comments about B+W 62mm Close-up +5 Lens (NL5):

You can definitely get closer with this lens, but it is so soft that it's basically worthless with apertures under f11 or so. In many cases you may be better off just cropping your photos. With lots of light and a tripod the results improve.

        Comments about B+W 62mm Close-up +5 Lens (NL5):

I have this filter as a 77mm to use with my 5DII, I decided to experiment by buying a smaller version to add better macro capabilities to my newly acquired Canon SX40 HS, macro function in that camera is so good that did not improve image quality in the SX40. I gave the filter away to a friend that is currently using it with a 7D and an ordinary 18-55mm kit lense making amazing images with it.

          Comments about B+W 62mm Close-up +5 Lens (NL5):

I love how this inexpensive, exceptional quality filter has created such a new dimension to my nature photos. This is a really well made optic. I was really impressed by the construction and the weight of the glass. I recently spent a day at a tidal pool along the northern California coast and came back with stunning macros/close ups of sea urchins, hermit crabs, starfish, mussels, etc. I didn't need to spend $1000 on a new macro lens to capture tack sharp images.

This lens works well with the Tameron 28-300 macro zoom. It enables one to get closer to the subject when working in close quarters.
