The SRT6 Night Officer Tactical LED Flashlight from Nitecore is a powerful and compact light built for military and law-enforcement use. Its primary output comes from a white Cree XM-L2 T6 LED that is infinitely-variable from 0.1 to 930 lumens. Press the 2-stage pushbutton tailcap switch for momentary activation, press and click for constant-on. The output intensity, strobe, SOS signal beacon are managed using a magnetically-controlled rotating Smart Selector Ring, located at the base of the head.

Built for durability, the light features an aluminum housing with a Type III hard-anodized black finish that resists scratching and corrosion. It is o-ring sealed to be IPX8 rated and submersible to 131', making it capable of being used as a dive light. The light is also impact and recoil-resistant for use in the field. The crenellated stainless steel bezel is designed to be used for self-defense, or as a window-breaker. A textured diamond pattern is machined into the handle to provide a sure grip, and there is a removable tactical ring that fits on the handle for use with a 'cigar-style' two-handed pistol grip.

Comments about NITECORE SRT6 Night Officer Tactical LED Flashlight:

I bought 2 of these for general use - one to keep in the car, one for photo field trips where I'm often out in the woods until dark. They're compact, well made and I like the controls. What tipped the decision in their favor was the claim that they are also certified to 40 metres (dive lights).

WARNING 1: If you're familiar with 18650 batteries you may know that many if not most are "flat-top": there is no metal "nipple" at the positive terminal - they don't have room because they have to fit in a short-circuit protection chip (and it is almost always a bad idea to use unprotected 18650 batteries). THIS FLASHLIGHT WONT WORK WITH FLATTOP batteries, unless you're willing to risk removing a plastic bit in the flashlight head. That's what I've done. This does defeat the light's protection against installing the battery backwards, and probably voids the warranty. So if you intend to use (or already have) the better quality, higher capacity batteries, you may not want this light.

WARNING 2: The description says the light is certified to 40 metres depth (ie that it is a dive light). Nothing on the packaging says this however. I will be testing this claim next time I dive, but won't be that surprised if it fails. If you are looking for a nicely made compact dive light this might be a good choice, but be careful that B&H still advertises it as a dive light the day you buy it.

Comments about NITECORE SRT6 Night Officer Tactical LED Flashlight:

I've been using, collecting, and researching a lot of flashlights recently and this is one of the best. Before this flashlight, I had the Fenix PD35 which was already a great torch. However I wanted to find something with more variety and speed and this light delivered it.

The ring that controls the brightness and modes is super smooth yet has enough drag to it so you don't accidentally change the setting you're in too easily. It helps to know what your flashlight is going to do before you turn it on, once you memorize its ring positions. Very helpful in the dark when you just want to turn it on its dimmest mode without waking up other people in the room. That goes to say the same thing with its strobe mode. Just turn it all the way to the right, on or off. SOS is in the opposite direction to the left, very appropriate in my opinion as it's perhaps the least used mode. This is extremely more efficient than the PD35's method of turning on the light first and then going through the mode switch.

The battery I had bought with this light, Nitecore's 2600maH 18650 is a decent value and I see it holds up to the specs well for runtime. Granted I only use this light sparingly and most of the time on its lower settings. The battery on this light seems to last forever. The indicator is very helpful to let me know the status of the 18650 inside once it drops below 50%. The PD35 did not have any indicators on battery status though runtimes were about the same.

Overall build quality is fantastic. I've dropped this from 3 feet up, not a scratch. I've also hit it many times inside the holster by swinging too far when it's on my belt and still, no damage. I got this light over the SRT7 because of the window breaker bezel and I didn't have a need for the color LEDs. It's not as bright or throws as far as the SRT7 but the difference is too minimal for me to care. It's definitely more durable than the PD35 however, the PD35 was already a durable light. However, one thing I also noticed too is that the SRT6 runs cooler than the PD35. Both lights get warm after on turbo for a few minutes but the Fenix light just heats up too fast too quickly and I've always worried about the lifespan for the LEDs in that light. The Nitecore never gets as hot at the Fenix, at least to the touch, which is remarkable considering it's brighter in lumens and is actually rated as a diving torch.

I've tested this light over a frozen lake in the middle of the night and it just lights up the entire path over 600' away. Amazing light.
