The PTC224 Carbon Fiber Tripod from Photo Clam is a lightweight tripod that is ideal for travel. Its legs fold up against the center column to give it a folded length of only 20.3". Made from carbon fiber, this tripod is lightweight at only 2.8 lb, but strong enough to hold up to 55.1 lb. The twist locks allow quick adjustment of the tripod's height from 4.3" to 54.3".

The legs can be individually locked at three different angles: 24°, 55°, and 85°.
A spring-loaded ballast hook on the bottom of the center column can hold extra weight to stabilize the tripod.
The center column is removable and replaceable with an optional long center column.

Comments about Photo Clam PTC224 Carbon Fiber Tripod:

This tripod is rock solid, and easily supports my Canon 1DS Mark II with the 400mm. It is compact and lightweight, which is exactly what I was looking for backpacking and travel. With my Arca-Swiss Monoball Z1 dp attached, it stands exactly 26" tall when fully collapsed. The documentation on removing the center column is a little strange to read, but it didn't take long to figure out. The locking collars have a nice feel to them and are smooth throughout the turn, unlike some I've felt that seem to "catch" or bind as they rotate. All in all, I am very happy with this tripod.

Comments about Photo Clam PTC224 Carbon Fiber Tripod:

After just two uses the tripod started falling apart. One of the legs came out of its groove, and began twisting completely around. Somehow, the counter-weight hook unscrewed itself and fell out of the bottom of the centerpost. Also, I found it to be a very complicated process to set it up for low-to-the-ground shots.
