The red Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera is a compact and versatile camera featuring a DX-format 24.2 megapixel CMOS sensor and EXPEED 4 image processor. The sensor and processor combine to realize high-resolution imaging, notable low-light sensitivity to an expandable ISO 25600, continuous shooting to 5 fps, and full HD 1080p video recording capabilities. Additionally, the sensor design omits the traditional optical low-pass filter in order to gain the utmost sharpness and resolution from both photos and videos. These imaging assets are complemented by an 11-point autofocus system, which provides quick and accurate focusing capabilities to suit working with a variety of subject types in nearly any lighting situation. A range of shooting modes and features are also available to help creatively accentuating your imagery, including an Easy Panorama mode as well as Picture Control settings for in-camera adjustment of the color and contrast qualities of your photos and movies.

For live view monitoring, image playback, and menu navigation, a large 3.0" 921k-dot LCD monitor is available and features a wide 160° viewing angle to better support working from high and low angles. Also enhancing the viewing and shooting abilities of the D3300, the optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter can be used to provide Wi-Fi connectivity for wirelessly transferring imagery and remotely controlling the camera from a linked Android or iOS mobile device.

Included with the D3300 camera body is the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II lens; a standard zoom providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 27-82.5mm. This lens incorporates a robust VR image stabilization system, which helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to four shutter speed steps to benefit working in low-light conditions. A Super Integrated Coating reduces flare and ghosting to optimize image clarity, contrast, and color neutrality and a rounded seven-blade diaphragm works to create a pleasing out-of-focus quality in shallow depth of field images.

24.2MP DX-Format Sensor and EXPEED 4 Processor
The 24.2 megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor and EXPEED 4 processor work together to produce overall high image quality with notable detail, dynamic range, color accuracy, and low-light sensitivity to a native ISO 12800, which is further expandable to ISO 25600. Additionally, the sensor's design omits an optical low-pass filter in order to acquire the greatest amount sharpness and detail from subjects. The EXPEED 4 processor also enables a wealth of speed throughout the camera system, including support for full HD 1080p movie recording and a full-resolution continuous shooting rate of 5 fps.
Multi-CAM 1000 Autofocus Sensor
Benefitting the high image quality is an apt AF system that employs 11 distinct AF points to quickly acquire focus in a range of lighting conditions from -1 to +19 EV.
Full HD Movie Recording
Full HD 1920 x 1080p movie recording is supported in multiple frame rates up to 60 fps, as well as HD 720p and SD 480p in multiple frame rates, in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format. During recording, full-time autofocus can be employed, with face-detection and subject-tracking capabilities, for ensured sharpness with a wide variety of subject types. A built-in monaural microphone can be used to record high-quality sound or, alternatively, a microphone input is integrated into the body design to support the use of an external microphone for enhanced quality and control over audio recordings.
Body Design
The D3300 integrates a large 3.0" 921k-dot vari-angle LCD monitor, which features a 160° viewing angle to better support viewing capabilities from high and low working angles. Alternatively, a bright pentamirror optical viewfinder is also integrated into the design for precise eye-level viewing and real-time monitoring of subjects.

A built-in pop-up flash is also available for additional illumination when working in low-light conditions and supports Nikon's i-TTL flash metering system. A hot shoe can be used, too, for connection and optional external flash for even greater lighting control.
AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II Lens
Included with the camera body is the standard zoom AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II lens, which provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 27-82.5mm. Designed to be as compact and lightweight as possible, this lens features a retractable lens barrel design that extends 2.6" from the camera. Benefitting the low-light imaging capabilities of the D3300, VR (Vibration Reduction) technology is incorporated into the lens' design to provide up to 4 stops of compensation against camera shake for cleaner, clearer imagery. Additionally, a Super Integrated Coating (SIC) has also been applied to lens elements to maintain true color fidelity and contrast by suppressing flare and ghosting.
Other Camera Features
  • The optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter can be used to provide Wi-Fi connectivity for instantly transferring imagery and remotely viewing a live view image from a linked mobile device.
  • Easy Panorama Mode simplifies the creation of panoramic images by allowing you to capture a high-resolution single image simply by panning across the scene.
  • A helpful Guide Mode is available to aid in becoming acquainted with the D3300 through a series of step-by-step tutorials.

The Nikon D3300 digital SLR camera arrived at my door last night. Charged the battery and tweated a few menu setting perferences. Took my first photos (see examples here) this morning in my backyard, under overcast sky conditions. The JPG images are sharp as a tack with spot-on brilliant colors. Will experiment with shooting raw later, but right out of the box, the JPG images this camera produces are remarkable! My menu tweats included increasing sharpness to +6, image quality BASIC, and image size SMALL for smaller file size--I never print larger than 8"x10").

BTW: Got this Nikon D3300 to replace a wonderful Canon 50D that I sold because the Canon 50D was just too heavy for me to carry around. The weight of this Nikon D3300 with kit lens feels like it's just slightly heavier than my point-and-shoot!

Popular Photography2 Park Ave.New York, NY 10016[@]I had my first camera when I was 10 years old—that was over 70 years ago. Since I am going to Italy soon I wanted to upgrade my Nikon D-80 and the Nikon D-3300 sounded like the perfect piece of equipment to allow photos and movies. Wrong. The photo part works well. Unfortunately the movies are a major problem. It automatically turns off after a short period of filming time so instead of one large file you end of with many small files. But that is not the major problem. I have been using Adobe Premier for years, my latest being the 5.5 version which works like a charm. Unfortunately Nikon apparently does not want you to use it and sends you ViewNX2 with very confusing instructions available only on line and very difficult to download and print. The movie files cannot be opened in Premier, which is an outstanding movie editing program. If you only want to take photos, the D-3300 does a great job—if you want movies which can be edited easily, look elsewhere. I called Nikon support and the representative did not appear to know much about the problem or their ViewNX2 program. James L. Windeck, M.D.Scottsdale, Arizona

This camera is the ultimate device for photography and capturing 1080p videos. Very lightweight, durable, lots of features including panorama mode etc. Great camera for a beginner or intermediate photographer who likes sports and action especially with the different lens options and the 1080p video recording.

Comments about D3300 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

Absolutely stunning image quality, great ISO performance, fast continuous shooting, gorgeous video, pretty much everything about this camera is fantastic. The kit lens is a little slow to focus, but if you can afford to invest in a 35 or 50mm f/1.8, you'll be shocked by the shots that come out of this little camera. Autofocus on non-kit lenses is near instant and highly accurate, and the viewfinder presents a large and clear picture. Autofocus in live view is pretty abysmal, but it's not really an issue for me. Battery life is excellent, I've gotten well over 800 shots out of a single charge, 600 of which were all in a short amount of time.

I purchased this camera to take photographs of birds. I watch/monitor local peregrine falcon nests and am also a backyard birdwatcher. I wasn't able to get most shots with my point and shoot, so I bought this. Even though I haven't progressed beyond the auto feature yet (have only had it for 2 months), I have been able to take AMAZING photographs. I can't wait to take a class to learn how to use it to its fullest capacity.

For my purposes, street and casual photography, it's been all I need. The kit lens does well enough and stores compactly since you can lock it closed, making it easier to fit extras in my bag. I've yet to run into any issues with it so far.

Comments about D3300 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

So far I've only used this on the auto settings, including the settings in the guide mode. The advanced settings in guide mode are fun to play with and help you learn more about aperture and shutter speed. However, I haven't been super impressed with the auto settings. It only does a little better than my last point and shoot really, but it's also likely I just don't have the eye to make detailed comparisons. I got this camera to learn more about photography and I will have to do that to really see its full potential. B&H had the best value since it came with several additional items for "free" (bag, lens filter, and memory card), which I was really pleased with. Be careful when buying a lens hood. You'll want the Nikon HB-69 since this comes with the VR II lens (not the HB-45 as I mistakenly bought).

We use this camera to take photos of our daughter and her friends who compete in beach/sand volleyball tournaments. The sports setting and the frames per second catch all the action! It's a great, lightweight camera and we equipped it with the 18-140mm zoom lens. A great combination!

I received this camera as a gift from my husband after I had been using my smartphone as a camera with some really successful results for a year. I love my new D3300 and the great pictures I can get with it. I am a total amateur but love looking for a great shot. This camera gives me lots of tools to get the best shot. I love that it is fairly easy to use but the small manual that came with it is not all encompassing and I have had to look on line for instructions for some aspects of the camera. My husband may have created a monster as I can't wait to find that next great shot!

Comments about D3300 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

I finally came to the conclusion I won't be migrating to a full-frame DSLR anytime soon, if ever. This left me with the choice of picking the Nikon D7100, D5300 and D3300. I was looking for a replacement for my Nikon D80. After carefully reviewing the three cameras I determined the D7100 was more camera than I needed, and the D5300 too closely matched my D5100 (which I still have). The D3300 met most of my requirements so I went with it. So far I have been pleased with the camera. I've noticed that when using the included 18-55mm VRII lens I've had to use more "shot discipline" than when using the old D80. By that I mean I have to wait a second for the VR mechanism in the lens to settle before squeezing the shutter at lower shutter speeds. The D3300's 24MP sensor is much more pixel-dense than the D80's 10MP, and I noticed sloppy shooting technique in some of my magnified images in the form of slight blur. The other thing I observed is that I too often shoot the D3300 at ISO100 when I don't need to. I shot the D80 at low ISOs because things got out of hand very quickly north of ISO400, and I've carried this habit with the D3300, which forces more reliance on the vibration reduction in the lens in darker shooting situations. Trusting the D3300's auto-ISO would remedy this. All in all a very good camera.

Comments about D3300 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Grey):

Since this is the first camera I have purchased in over twenty years, I was really concerned. When getting things "put together", the instructions were concise and easy to follow. Within a matter of minutes, I was taking pictures:):):).

My purchase was based on wanting quality pictures of a "Celebration of Life" for my Dad (passed away at 86, after a good life). I am so grateful for the timely manner this camera was delivered to the doorstep, arriving in time for me to have these memories. I was also successful in visiting several War Memorials and obtaining fabulous pictures.

I am looking forward to exploring all of the features and making more memories!

                        Thank you so much!

                        Always,
                        Diane

The first thing I would like to mention is that THIS CAMERA IS FANTASTIC. The image quality is awesome, and it's really simple to use. I bought this camera to shoot nature photography, and to make short films. This camera shoots great videos too, considering that this is the only entry level DSLR camera that gives you 60fps option with which you get very smooth videos. For still images, this camera (24 megapixels) definitely beats the Canon EOS Rebel T5i (18 megapixels). The image quality is sharper and beautiful. The camera is light and very simple to use. Even the kit lens provided with this camera works just fine. And finally the price, at $ CHEAPER THAN T5i, you really can't find an awesome DSLR camera for this price.

I consider myself a Photo Enthusiast. I originally started taking pictures of my kids and it grew into a full blown obsession. Most of my pictures are taken in Elementary/Middle/High School sports settings. (I haven't had a chance to photograph High School Football with the D3300) I photograph all family gatherings. I occasional photograph High School Senior Pictures. The D3300 is a upgrade from my D40. I absolutely love it! I'm impressed with the ISO range and the battery life. I find it very easy to use, although I do have to search through the menu to use some of the settings. The only negative I can think of: the LCD screen is fixed and there is no WiFi. However, I'm not sure how to use either.

Comments about D3300 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

I started using Nikon D models with D100 and can't begin to say just how satisfying this new D3300 is. from daylight to low light it preforms very well indeed. it is ultra light weight but packed with tons of features. Love this combo with kit lens and the extras that came with it from B&H are terrific! Thanks B&H Photo, I remain a very satisfied customer.

Comments about D3300 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Red):

I love taking pictures and wanted a step up from my point in shoot. I read the reviews on this camera and talked to several people who own a Nikon and I always got good feedback. I take scenic shots as well as posed and candid shots. I love the light feel of the camera and the crispness of the auto shots. In the beginning, I found the menu options confusing but I've got the hang of it now. Still learning about all the features, particularly the manual ones.

Comments about D3300 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

I upgraded from D3200 for two reasons: Better battery life, and sharper photos. I sold my D3200 and got this, and my calculated risk proved out to be a great move.

Photos are noticeably sharper than the D3200 and battery life way better. The first thing I noticed when grabbing this camera is I did not like the new grip (the D3200 was perfect for my size L hand). However, it's only a touch on the small side so I can live with it, still better than any of the Canon Rebels for my L size hand). The buttons on the back have the same function as the D3200 but are now flush (LV, trash, and timer buttons) so much more difficult to accidentally go into LV mode by pressing the protruding button (something I disliked on the D3200).

The new panorama mode (not found on the D3200) is easy to use, and makes the camera more of an all in one solution so you don't have to take out another gadget (I.E. phone) to get a panoramic photo.

The stereo audio meters when recording video are longer throw than on the D3200 so will allow more accurate analysis of audio levels. I think this is part of the Expeed 4 engine.

Using the nicely priced Nikon f1.8 35mm prime lens on indoor photos, the clarity is unmatched by any other camera / lens combo I've ever used. Using the same lens on the D3200 there was no hope of getting this kind of clarity. It's not just due to no anti-A filter, but I believe I'm getting much better focus on this body than I did on the D3200. I never got any photos this clear on the D3200 with the same exact lens.

I have no conclusion about the kit lens, but early observations ... I noticed it doesn't focus well with center point focus mode for indoor (close up) shots. Indoors I think you are better to use multiple focus points with this lens. Otherwise with this lens outdoors (longer distance to the subject) photos are sharp and video is clear.

See my recommended lenses, listed elsewhere in this review. If you get the 18mm to 200mm, that's a 10:1 zoom (in point and shoot camera lingo).

Comments about D3300 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

Was not in the market for a DSLR, but a friend was looking for one and asked me to do some research for them when I stumbled upon this camera. At the price point I could not resist and after some gear swapping it was mine. Once set up to my liking (time spent with the manual will be rewarded) it was able to effortlessly rip some great pictures (attached) in many various situations. Still life shots have amazing color depth and the dynamic range is impressive. Low light performance was stellar. Shots in a ball room and around the house, that challenged my other camera also on hand with a prime lens (no slouch itself) were a breeze with the kit lens on this camera. The kit lens! This was bought to fill the extra body niche in my little collection, but the image results have me seriously considering trading in the balance of my other system to add another higher end Nikon body.
