The grey Nikon D3300 DSLR Camera is a compact and versatile camera featuring a DX-format 24.2 megapixel CMOS sensor and EXPEED 4 image processor. The sensor and processor combine to realize high-resolution imaging, notable low-light sensitivity to an expandable ISO 25600, continuous shooting to 5 fps, and full HD 1080p video recording capabilities. Additionally, the sensor design omits the traditional optical low-pass filter in order to gain the utmost sharpness and resolution from both photos and videos. These imaging assets are complemented by an 11-point autofocus system, which provides quick and accurate focusing capabilities to suit working with a variety of subject types in nearly any lighting situation. A range of shooting modes and features are also available to help creatively accentuating your imagery, including an Easy Panorama mode as well as Picture Control settings for in-camera adjustment of the color and contrast qualities of your photos and movies.

For live view monitoring, image playback, and menu navigation, a large 3.0" 921k-dot LCD monitor is available and features a wide 160° viewing angle to better support working from high and low angles. Also enhancing the viewing and shooting abilities of the D3300, the optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter can be used to provide Wi-Fi connectivity for wirelessly transferring imagery and remotely controlling the camera from a linked Android or iOS mobile device.

Included with the D3300 camera body is the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II lens; a standard zoom providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 27-82.5mm. This lens incorporates a robust VR image stabilization system, which helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to four shutter speed steps to benefit working in low-light conditions. A Super Integrated Coating reduces flare and ghosting to optimize image clarity, contrast, and color neutrality and a rounded seven-blade diaphragm works to create a pleasing out-of-focus quality in shallow depth of field images.

24.2MP DX-Format Sensor and EXPEED 4 Processor
The 24.2 megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor and EXPEED 4 processor work together to produce overall high image quality with notable detail, dynamic range, color accuracy, and low-light sensitivity to a native ISO 12800, which is further expandable to ISO 25600. Additionally, the sensor's design omits an optical low-pass filter in order to acquire the greatest amount sharpness and detail from subjects. The EXPEED 4 processor also enables a wealth of speed throughout the camera system, including support for full HD 1080p movie recording and a full-resolution continuous shooting rate of 5 fps.
Multi-CAM 1000 Autofocus Sensor
Benefitting the high image quality is an apt AF system that employs 11 distinct AF points to quickly acquire focus in a range of lighting conditions from -1 to +19 EV.
Full HD Movie Recording
Full HD 1920 x 1080p movie recording is supported in multiple frame rates up to 60 fps, as well as HD 720p and SD 480p in multiple frame rates, in the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format. During recording, full-time autofocus can be employed, with face-detection and subject-tracking capabilities, for ensured sharpness with a wide variety of subject types. A built-in monaural microphone can be used to record high-quality sound or, alternatively, a microphone input is integrated into the body design to support the use of an external microphone for enhanced quality and control over audio recordings.
Body Design
The D3300 integrates a large 3.0" 921k-dot vari-angle LCD monitor, which features a 160° viewing angle to better support viewing capabilities from high and low working angles. Alternatively, a bright pentamirror optical viewfinder is also integrated into the design for precise eye-level viewing and real-time monitoring of subjects.

A built-in pop-up flash is also available for additional illumination when working in low-light conditions and supports Nikon's i-TTL flash metering system. A hot shoe can be used, too, for connection and optional external flash for even greater lighting control.
AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II Lens
Included with the camera body is the standard zoom AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II lens, which provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 27-82.5mm. Designed to be as compact and lightweight as possible, this lens features a retractable lens barrel design that extends 2.6" from the camera. Benefitting the low-light imaging capabilities of the D3300, VR (Vibration Reduction) technology is incorporated into the lens' design to provide up to 4 stops of compensation against camera shake for cleaner, clearer imagery. Additionally, a Super Integrated Coating (SIC) has also been applied to lens elements to maintain true color fidelity and contrast by suppressing flare and ghosting.
Other Camera Features
  • The optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter can be used to provide Wi-Fi connectivity for instantly transferring imagery and remotely viewing a live view image from a linked mobile device.

I own a D7100, a D3200, and a D600. The focus on the D3300 is great. I had given up on a Sigma 150-500 mm lens and after using it on the D3300, the focus with the combination is working as it should. I do a lot of wildlife photography and image focus is the proof of the pudding. I also love the panoramas that are generated by the camera. A very welcome addition to my photography package....

Popular Photography2 Park Ave.New York, NY 10016[@]I had my first camera when I was 10 years old—that was over 70 years ago. Since I am going to Italy soon I wanted to upgrade my Nikon D-80 and the Nikon D-3300 sounded like the perfect piece of equipment to allow photos and movies. Wrong. The photo part works well. Unfortunately the movies are a major problem. It automatically turns off after a short period of filming time so instead of one large file you end of with many small files. But that is not the major problem. I have been using Adobe Premier for years, my latest being the 5.5 version which works like a charm. Unfortunately Nikon apparently does not want you to use it and sends you ViewNX2 with very confusing instructions available only on line and very difficult to download and print. The movie files cannot be opened in Premier, which is an outstanding movie editing program. If you only want to take photos, the D-3300 does a great job—if you want movies which can be edited easily, look elsewhere. I called Nikon support and the representative did not appear to know much about the problem or their ViewNX2 program. James L. Windeck, M.D.Scottsdale, Arizona

Comments about D3300 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

This was our entry in the DSLR world after using several point and shoot cameras over the years. We still have much to learn about photography and the features of the camera but have been thoroughly impressed with the performance and quality of this new Nikon. We chose it over other models and similar Canons as it was the most recent to hit the market with reported improvements over previous models. Often we rely on the automatic and guide features of the camera to help us set things up and have not been disappointed. We also appreciate that there is a viewfinder, rather than having to rely on the LCD exclusively.

Comments about D3300 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

In general I like the camera but I had not done my research enough to know that the DX format give you only 66% of the field of view of a full frame camera. This allows for a smaller, lighter lens, but means you get less in view for the same focal length. As such a fixed 50mm lens would be much too narrow. The panorama feature does not allow you to stop partway like you can with an iphone, so you cannot just widen your view using panorama. In video mode, if you try to focus with autofocus the lens noise is louder than any other audio and manual focus you hear the lens shuffling - so don't expect it to operate like a video camera. Use a tripod and preset the focus/exposure.In live view (through the LCD) expect quite a long delay when the screen goes black and the mirror opens, closes and does whatever it does, before you see your image again. I would have expected a simple blink, since the mirror is already open - not sure why it has to close then open again.Face detection is only active with live view mode. With live view under certain circumstances, you need to cover the through the lens eyepiece (part not included) or some light may leak through to change the metering. Doesn't show up on picture, just changes the auto metering (according to the manual). The pictures look good. Lightweight. Just know there are some tradeoffs to achieve that weight/size.

Comments about D3300 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

I'm a casual photographer that takes pictures of my everyday. I use this camera for that purpose. It goes above and beyond what I need from it, but for the price its so worth it. I definitely could have gone with something cheaper, but I'm happy that I put down more money and got this camera. The quality is unreal (in RAW), it's light, it's quick, the video is unreal. It's all I need from a camera and so much more.

The screen is a little small, but that's not that big of a deal.

My daughter got me re interested in photography when we talked about her buying a new camera. I did a lot of research and it was a choice between this camera and the Canon T5. I recommended this one and she got the other one. I ended up buying the Nikon because of the quality of the stills vs other cameras in its class. I cannot afford a "professional" camera but other than very specific functions, and extra knobs it is hard to imagine why one would. The processing algorithms are similar from what I can tell, the detector is very close to the same, and you can use whatever quality lenses you want. The reviews refer to this as an entry level camera. The only reason I think this camera could be called that is because it is not as feature rich as the more expensive Nikons.

Comments about D3300 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

The camera is very light and the controls are simple and straightforward. I've only shot about 50 photos so far but exposures look good and the autofocus is working well. The collapsible lens sounds good but in practice I don't think it's all that useful. You can't shoot photos when it's in the retracted position. The materials feel cheaper than my previous Nikon DSLR but I guess this is what facilitates the lighter weight. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase and with the freebies that B&H included, especially the Ruggard holster bag.

Comments about D3300 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black):

This is my first digital SLR in re-entering my photography hobby. I had a lot of experience with film in my old Olympus OM1 and OM2 many years ago with the most complex work coming from auto race photography. The D3300 arrived the afternoon that I was leaving for a full race weekend and its first use was at the track with the cars at full speed. I was able to understand all of the controls quickly and create some amazing speed shots on the first day with panning to create a blurred background and an in-focus car. Color saturation and exposure were both great and the ease of adapting from my old film knowledge to a new digital platform was surprisingly simple. Once I got away from the "normal" file default settings and set the image quality to "fine," things improved again. This seems like a good starting piece of equipment for a hobbyist like me.

This camera was purchased to replace an aging Nikon D 50. Well worth the price. It is much lighter than the D 50. Set up very similarly, not a huge learning curve from my old Nikon. Love the clarity and the LCD screen. Many more functions than the D 50, especially the video. I am going to have to try that, but may have to get an external mic for better sound. SO far, extremely pleased with the purchase.

Although this camera is almost always referred to as "entry-level", it offers many features usually only found on much more expensive models. I did my research, and this is THE camera for 2014. I had no brand loyalty, so I searched for a DSLR that was easy to use and that could give me the high quality images I need. No other camera in the $ or under price range offered anywhere near what you find on this Nikon D3300. And...I really appreciated the great price and support from B&H, an authorized Nikon dealer. Great camera...great price...great dealer! What more could you ask for when buying a new DSLR?

Use for indoor/ outdoor... Portraits, Nature and action/sports. Perfect camera for a starter. Easy to use guide and info instructions built into the camera. Lightweight body with a firm grip. Wish it had exposure blocking.. would make learning a bit easier. Mannual mode prretty good, but knowing which dial and button that controls which setting is not intuitive. Should be clearer. The kit lens is just ok with a varaible F-Stop thats nothing special. But its a good lens to see what you see for a beginner.
