This hard drive is large, relatively cheap and has a fast thunderbolt connection. I love it compared to firewire 800 version of the drive. The only reason it gets 4 stars and not 5 stars is that it only has one thunderbolt port, meaning you can't daisy chain additional thunderbolt drives or accessories. It does come with a thunderbolt cable and a usb3 cable which is very nice,

Should have just gone with my gutt and gotten a glyph in the first place. i have glyphs on the mac system and they perform great. got this one cuz i thought the thunderbolt would come in handy in the future. in short, RMA'd for the glyph equivelent (on it's way back to me soon). i tried, i tried, i tried - when i received the g-tech, it needed to be reformatted for windows and i knew this going in. so, i connected it to my USB3 hub. no connection. connected it to dedicated USB3 out on system (with included USB3 cable). should have known right there there was an issue. it was found and then not found several times till it finally stabilized. i should shipped it back right there, but i continued. To make sure it wasn't the port or cables, i switched to different direct ports and different cabels i know work. even tried the thunderbolt way and same unstability. once stabilized on the original USB3 port, i did the system management and disk thing. the drive unmounted and remounted by itself peroidically till i got it to be recognized, initialised, partitioned, and formatted. It did format. and i thought it was finally stable. nope. trying to capture and encode via premier cc with an awesome little device, the BM intensity pro, it started to randomly dismount and remount - dropping the encode process. that was a painful and slow day. i just stopped and tried to 'eject' the drive and it wasn't even showing up anymore. i shut down my entire system then unplugged it and packaged it up. it was probably just this one drive, but i cant risk any more down time. long live glyph.

              Comments about G-Technology 3TB G-Drive with Thunderbolt:

My friend has Been working in film production for 8 years and has been only using g-drives since he started. He said that he has never had one fail on him, so when I asked what I should get to replace my failed drive, what do you think he suggested?

Works great so far. The drive is fast, and has a nice solid feel to it.
I also like that the drive itself has feet that elevates it from the desk surface, so if someone were to bump the desk, and spill someone's misplaced coffee, the drive will not be sitting in a puddle.

I hope it lasts at least 8+ years like my friends.

              Comments about G-Technology 3TB G-Drive with Thunderbolt:

So far this has been great for my production needs. Thunderbolt makes everything run so much quicker. It takes at least half the time now to transfer data. One thing I think the retailers did on purpose, but is confusing the first time you use it, is that it won't turn on unless the thunderbolt cord is connected to the computer and the drive. Its a smart idea because if the drive is plugged in and on, if its not connected it won't just waste power. Its a little nerve-racking if you plug it in without knowing and try to turn it on before connecting to the computer- nothing happens. Knowing how the drive works, now makes everything easier and so much smoother.

With stacks of hard drives I always feel more confident when I'm using a G-Drive. I've had issues with many including another brand of T-bolt drive.
This seems really fast and consistent. I'm editing video with FCPX on an iMac.

Four stars only because it has one thunderbolt port (big advantage of thunderbolt is ability to daisy chain devices). Thunderbolt on a single drive may be overkill but if, like me, you only have usb2, FireWire, or thunderbolt ports than this is the way to go for max throughput.

We use these drives quite a bit for project storage and they've been quite reliable.

I Use this hard drive for video editing
                              and I am extremely disappointed
I used it to save premiere pro projects and from one day to another
The hard drive just did not respond to my Mac it said "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" with the options "Initialize" "Ignore" "Eject"
at this point I do not know what to do
I need to recover my lost files
Im Going through a NIGHTMARE !

                                Comments about G-Technology 3TB G-Drive with Thunderbolt:

I've used G-Techs for almost everything. I use them at home and my company uses them as well.

I work in Video Production and Editing wich requires a lot of data movement and creating and deleting. The Thunderbolt drive works just as well as all others I've used before. The data rate is significantly faster transfering data, opening projects, and playing back footage.

It is just as noisy as the others I've had before but put it on a shelf or below the desk and it's no big problem.

The biggest issuse I have are the ports. With only 1 thunderbolt and 1 USB 3 port there really isn't an oportunity to daisy chain. But at 3TB the need to daisy chain might not be a neccesity until it's getting full.
