The Sense 3D Scanner from 3D Systems is a portable, full color, three-dimensional scanner for quickly and easily creating 3D models of real-world objects. It has a wide scan volume from small 8 x 8 x 8" items up to 118 x 118 x 118" objects. The Sense also has a convenient working distance of 15 to 60".

The Sense 3D Scanner works by using two cameras on the front of the device. One camera is utilized for capturing the shape and size information while the second is solely for color. This helps to create accurate models perfect for 3D printing. This works well with the Sense's full integration with the Cubify Sculpt software and Cubify's website for direct 3D printing from home or through the cloud.

For general operation, the scanner sends a 30 frame per second image stream over the 7' USB 3.0/2.0 cable to a Windows 7- or 8-based computer. The computer then processes the information to create a 3D model. This can then be enhanced and edited with the use of the specialized software to create printable models.

Comments about 3D Systems Sense 3D Scanner:

This product is great for larger objects such as humans, furniture, and motorcycles. It takes a bit of practice to do the scan, but once that's done the software is very easy to use.

Wanted to us to scan 3d people and things.

It might work if you had a harness to wear a computer while trying to scan.

You have to be at lease 15" away from the object. If you lose sync with image either get in sync. only been able to do once. or start the scan over.

Comments about 3D Systems Sense 3D Scanner:

There are many bad reviews for this device and I think much of it is due to unreasonable expectations.
I bought it because the latest version of Geomagic Design software has built in support for it, and I like to play around with new tools.
This is not a precision scanner, and you can't expect it to be for the price, but as a fancy toy and a way to begin affordable 3D scanning I think it's OK.
As you pan around the object being scanned the individual scans are knitted together in real time, you don't need to do it manually from multiple scan files. However, since it has limited resolution the accuracy of the final scan suffers.
The ability to capture color information along with surface is cool, but doesn't matter to me very much. Maybe if I wanted to create avatars that look like me for a game, I would care more.
If you have software to process the scans, and/or a 3D printer to print scanned objects, it isn't a bad way to start playing in this area, just don't expect precision.
My ratings are made with these expectations in mind...

Seeing the ad on the website seems to be very good. But when you have it seems that 20 year old a digital camera. Should be wireless. The cable management very difficult to scan. Needs special lighting conditions. I would not recommend
