The Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera features a 16.3 megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor and an EXR Processor II to produce high-resolution imagery with an expandable sensitivity range from ISO 100-51200 as well as a top continuous shooting rate of 8 fps. Fujifilm's proprietary X-Trans sensor uses a unique randomized pixel array in order to avoid the use of a resolution-reducing optical low-pass filter, therefore providing images with the utmost sharpness and clarity. This imaging system is benefitted by the Intelligent Hybrid AF system, which uses both contrast- and phase-detection methods to acquire focus quickly and accurately. Enhanced manual focusing capabilities are also a result of these technologies; Digital Split Image and Focus Highlight Peaking are two methods for quickly and precisely determining focus using intelligent focusing aids for improved control and optimized efficiency.

For image monitoring, review, and menu navigation, both a 2,360k-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and a 3.0" 1,040k-dot tilting LCD screen are available. The body design extends this versatility through the implementation of manual, physical control dials on the top plate of the camera as well as customizable buttons and a Q Menu button for expedited access to some of the most useful settings. This control scheme further enables an intuitive built-in Wi-Fi system for direct sharing of imagery to an Android or iOS mobile device for instant sharing online.

Full HD 1080p movie recording in multiple frame rates is possible and a 2.5mm microphone input permits the use of an optional external microphone for improved audio quality with recordings. Full-time continuous focusing is supported while taking video, also, as well as the use of Film Simulation modes. Film Simulation modes make use of Fujifilm's history of producing both negative and slide films, and allow you to apply those films' characteristics to your digital imagery to better suit your intended look.

Included with the X-T1 is the XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS lens; a standard zoom lens providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 27-84mm, covering wide-angle to portrait-length perspectives. This lens integrates optical image stabilization to minimize the appearance of camera shake to benefit working with longer shutter speeds or greater focal lengths and a linear motor-drive AF system provides fast, smooth focusing capabilities.

16.3MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS II Sensor
A large 16.3MP APS-C CMOS image sensor is integrated into the X-T1 to provide high image quality and detail. Using Fujifilm's unique X-Trans bespoke pixel array, the sensor is designed with a randomized pixel pattern to eliminate the need of an optical low-pass filter for reducing moiré and aliasing. By removing this filter from the design, higher image sharpness is possible. Lens Modulation Optimizer (LMO) factors are also taken into account using the EXR Processor II, which helps to automatically compensate for aberrations and diffraction blur in order to produce images with the utmost inherent sharpness.

The X-Trans sensor also works to provide highly effective noise reduction and a clean signal-to-noise ratio. This enables smoother-looking imagery that becomes especially apparent when photographing in low-light situations with an expanded sensitivity range of ISO 100-51200. Additionally, a top continuous shooting rate of 8 fps is possible, for up to 47 consecutive frames, to benefit working with moving subject matter.
EXR Processor II
Aside from benefitting low-light performance, the EXR Processor II also provides quick performance throughout the entire camera system. The camera start-up time is about 0.5 seconds, shutter lag is about 0.05 seconds, and the shooting interval time is about 0.5 seconds. A fast autofocus performance speed of 0.08 seconds is also enabled using the advanced Intelligent Hybrid AF system using both contrast- and phase-detection focusing methods.
Intelligent Hybrid AF and Enhanced Manual Focus
Intelligent Hybrid AF is a quick, responsive autofocus system that employs both contrast- and phase-detection methods to acquire focus quickly in a wide variety of lighting conditions and shooting situations. Clear focus can quickly be attained to aid in catching fast-paced movement more easily. Three focus modes are available (AF-S, AF-C, and M) for greater control over how the X-T1 achieves sharp focus. When working with autofocus, the AF area is divided into a 49-point matrix in order to gain clear focus of any type of subject matter. Additionally, a built-in AF assist lamp is available for aiding the focus system when photographing in low-light situations.

When working with manual focus, two additional features can be employed for enhanced critical focusing in a more controllable manner. By using the phase-detection pixels located on the imaging sensor, Digital Split Image technology is able to assist in acquiring precise focus through the implementation of four striped focusing aids; akin to a rangefinder focusing method, once these stripes have been lined up, sharp focus can be ensured. Also contributing to manual focus accuracy, Focus Peak Highlight has been integrated and enables a more objective system of focusing by way of highlighting sharp edges and lines of contrast, using one of three colors, once they are in focus.
Multi Mode Real Time Viewfinder
An advanced electronic viewfinder has been incorporated into the X-T1's design to support clear eye-level monitoring along with a host of unique viewing features to better support a more efficient overall workflow. The Real Time Viewfinder is comprised of a 2,360k-dot OLED display and features an exceptionally high magnification of 0.77x, along with a 31° angle of view. This perspective is further complemented by the 0.005 sec. lag time, which smoothly and seamlessly renders scenes and moving subjects.

Beyond the technical aspects of the viewfinder, an adaptable graphical user interface has also been designed to increase efficiency during shooting. Four different viewing modes are available:

  • FULL: This mode takes advantage of the high magnification ratio of the viewfinder and produces an image that fills the majority of the viewfinder in an unobstructed manner. Shooting information is presented at the top and bottom edges and does not interfere with the image frame itself.
  • NORMAL: This mode enables you to focus on the composition at hand while still having an in-depth understanding of camera settings and shooting conditions.
  • VERTICAL: When the camera is held in a vertical orientation, the information display automatically rotates so it is facing upright for easier reading of camera settings. When working in this mode, images can also be reviewed in the vertical orientation.
  • DUAL: Serving to benefit those working with manual focus, this mode presents a split screen view of the scene where you see both a regular view as well as the Focus Assist View (Focus Highlight Peaking and Digital Split Image) at the same time, allowing you to concentrate on the image composition as well as critical focus accuracy.

  • In addition to the four viewing modes, the shooting information displayed within the viewfinder can also be customized to suit one's needs. 19 different settings can be toggled on or off depending on preference.
    Classic Camera Design
Featuring a body design reminiscent of SLR film cameras, the X-T1 exhibits a meshing of both analog exposure controls along with intelligent automated technologies. The clean and functional body design incorporates physical shutter speed, ISO, drive mode, AF mode, and +/- 3 EV exposure compensation double-deck precision-milled aluminum alloy dials that pair well with the manual aperture rings found on many of the XF lenses for intuitive exposure setting selection. Depending on individual needs, six customizable buttons, dual command dials, and an easily-accessible Q Menu provide an efficient solution for modifying some of the most frequently used camera settings, such as ISO, white balance, and file settings. For more extensive menu navigation, as well as live view monitoring and image review, a 3.0" 1,040k-dot LCD monitor is available and features a tilting design to better support working from high and low angles.

Furthermore, the magnesium alloy body also features approximately 80 points of weather sealing to protect itself from dust and moisture, as well as temperatures as low as 14°F, for confident use in trying conditions.
    Full HD Movie Recording
Full HD 1080p video recording is supported up to 60 fps, with other frame rates and formats also available. Full-time AF tracking is available during recording with subject tracking capabilities for ensured sharpness when either the subject is moving or if the camera is moving, panning, or zooming. +/- 2 EV exposure compensation is available during recording as well as the use of Film Simulation settings.

An HDMI port enables high definition playback of movies to an HDTV and the inclusion of a 2.5mm input supports the use of an optional external microphone for enhanced sound quality.
    Built-In Wi-Fi Connectivity
Wireless connectivity is built into the camera and allows for instant sharing of images directly to an Android or iOS mobile device. The Fujifilm Camera Remote app allows you to browse the image contents of your camera from your mobile device and transfer both videos and photos, and the entire sharing process is further expedited by simply pressing and holding the dedicated Wi-Fi button to begin transferring immediately. Remote camera control and monitoring is also supported through the use of the app, which enables Touch AF, shutter release, exposure settings adjustment, Film Simulation modes, white balance modes, macro, timer, and flash controls to all be adjusted from the linked mobile device. Location data can also be embedded into image file's metadata for geotagging.
Film Simulation Mode and Advanced Filters
Taking advantage of Fujifilm's vast history in traditional film-based photography, the X-T1 integrates several Film Simulation modes to mimic the look and feel of some Fujifilm's classic film types. Pulling from their line of transparency films, PROVIA offers natural-looking tones for everyday shooting, VELVIA produces a more dramatic and rich tonality with deeper color saturation, and ASTIA gives less contrast for a softer depiction of skin tones. Mimicking their negative films, PRO Neg. Std. gives smooth image tones that are suitable for accurate color renditions, while PRO Neg. Hi produces a more dramatic feel with the ability to draw color out of a variety of lighting conditions. In addition to the colorful benefits of these Film Simulation modes, there are also monochrome modes that simulate the look of traditional yellow, green, and red black and white contrast filters. A sepia mode is also available for producing an inherently nostalgic look.

Eight Advanced Filters are also available to creatively enhance the look of imagery, and include: High Key, Low Key, Soft Focus, Toy Camera, Miniature, Pop Color, Dynamic Tone, and Partial Color (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple).
    Fujinon XF18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS
The included XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 27-84mm, covering wide-angle to portrait-length perspectives to suit working with most everyday subject matter. An optical image stabilization system counters the appearance of camera shake by up to four shutter speed steps and a linear-driven autofocus motor helps to produce quick and smooth focusing performance. Three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element work to minimize chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range while also benefitting overall image clarity and sharpness. A Super EBC coating has also been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for a enhanced contrast and neutral colors.
    Other Camera Features
  • An in-camera RAW converter lets you record your images in 14-bit RAW and process them prior to computer-based editing procedures. This process enables you to modify the exposure, white balance, and other controls directly through the menu interface. Additionally, for more thorough processing of files, RAW File Converter software is included for RAW image processing on your computer.
  • Interval shooting is possible with intervals of 1 second to 24 hours for up to 999 frames.

I am mainly a landscape and portrait photographer. I had been in the Micro 4/3rd camp for the last several years having gone through more pro DSLR's over the years than I care to count and now OUT of Micro 4/3rds. This camera is one of those rare ones that comes along, that is so conceived for and by a photographer with the intent to be able to easily use all of the powerful capabilities it has, as well as discover your create side as well. It is so solidly construction, fits in one's had as if they took a mold of your hand. The controls and adjustments are moments away and rarely have to to be explored in their still comprehensive menu. The colors produced are all Fuji, extraordinary. One of the most enticing things about this camera is the utterly noise free files it can produce. For best results from RAW I most highly recommend you download and purchase the latest version of PhotoNinja by Picturecode. it is by far the best Demosaicing and control rich program for THIS camera if you want the best results. Noise free and sharp detailed images will result. The micro contrast of the sensor and detail is surgical in it's nature. Yes the high speed focus tracking WORKS and well indeed. Far better than anything short of a pro DSLR. Shutter response is superb and immediate so as to allow you to simply mash the shutter on a moving subject and end up with a in focus shot. The EVF is class leading and presents a FF DSLR sized image with all details present. You simply have to work with one of these cameras to appreciate what Fuji has accomplished. I would not hesitate to shoot any wedding or event with this camera, fast moving children, animals etc. bring it on. This is THE camera to own right now.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

As a photography professor for 30 years as well as a fine art photographer I have had my hands on many cameras. I bought the Fuji XT-1 because of the stunning black and white photos that come straight from the camera. This camera performs in every genre I enjoy shooting and I absolutely find it the best little camera with a big camera photo.
I was extremely excited how well it performed in a very dark environment pushing it to 6400 ISO.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I have shot a lot with a Nikon D7000 before buying this camera. The image quality from the Fuji is very good. If you are on your feet all day carrying this and a few lenses, you will will really appreciate it. Although I owned film cameras with dials, I honestly like the handling on the Nikons. Setting aperture on the lens, without any click stops is not so easy. Having to push buttons to unlock the shutter and ISO dials when the camera is up to your eye is not easy, either. And the controller pad on the back - enough has been written about that.
That being said, perhaps slowing down to take pictures while traveling is a good thing. The autofocus may be good for mirror less, but it doesn't seem as good as the Nikon for shooting people, even in face detect mode. High ISO performance is also very good and the noise is not a big deal.
But the images are very nice, the lenses are really good, compact and light. This is a wonderful travel and hiking camera. I have already spent a week walking with the camera and two lenses in a shoulder bag and no complaints. Get extra batteries, the Watson ones work well and are inexpensive.
Expect great image quality and easy to carry. Just not as easy to handle. Seems a little slow to import into Lightroom, and there are no built in lens corrections, BUT, these lenses don't seem to need it, or it has already been done in camera ( I am shooting RAW).
Probably not a good choice for action/sports, but I don't do that.

I bought this camera for a trip to Japan. It is easy to carry around without hurting my neck. The performance of this camera is excellence.
The only thing to complain is the battery life is not long enough for one day shooting. Buy an extra battery when if you want to purchase this camera.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

Overall very happy with the camera. Focus accuracy isn't comparable with a mid-range DSLR of course but if you want a mirrorless this is the camera to get right now. Battery life is mediocre but I find that I can go through a full day with at most 2 batteries (400 shots give or take). I chose this camera over Sony A7 because the lens selection was more exciting, but if low light or dynamic range is your absolute priority then consider the full frame Sony A7 (in body 5 axis stabilization versus Fuji's in-lens stabilization). XT-1 renders remarkable low noise images even at ISO 6400 though.

I've used this camera for a few months now and absolutely love all the manual controls that Fuji has to offer. True, you can do the exact same things in any other camera by going through menu options, but with XT-1 it's right there in front of you and all can be adjusted without taking your eye off the view finder.

I've used the 35mm f/1.4, 10-24mm f/4, and the kit zoom 18-55mm with this and overall happy with the results. I recommend getting extra batteries, I got the Wasabi power and Watson brand replacements and am happy with them.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

For some time I was looking to get something more portable in weight, size and less obtrusive then my FF DSLR. Having used the FujiFilm X100 for a few years the ideal of a interchangebale lens mirrorlese camera was high on my list. While keeping my Nikon D600 with large glass for wildlife and sports, I sold a few Nikon lenes to get the X-T1 system and a few lenses, this kit lens and the 56mm f/1.2. No regrets whatsoever. The image quaility for my purposes shooting events, street and personal photos is excellent. Fujifilm has some wonderful lenses and more on the way and they seem to listen to users with timely and effective firmware updates. With this camera, once I learned all the controls and settings, I seem to think less about the camera and more about the composition, making photography exciting again for me.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

In 1957, when I was 15 years old, My Dad and I went on a private tour of the Leitz factory at Wetzler. (There were elevators at Wetzler without doors that moved continously. You just jumped on and off!) At the end of the tour, with money I had saved up from my paper route, I bought, with a little help from Dad, a leica IIIg with a 50mm Summicron lens. When I held the Fujifilm X-T1 in my hands for the very first time I had that same feeling I had when I held that IIIg for the first time. Wow, what a camera!I was forced to go digital for practial reasons, but I wanted a real camera with real camera controls. I would never consider buying one of those giant plastic cameras that look like a toaster or some other home appliance. So I started looking at the Lumix and Sony cameras, and a few others that were less toaster-like. But then I saw the Fujifilm X-series cameras and it was love at first sight. I loved all of them, but I wanted to be able to use some of my favorite lenses, and using them manually was just fine with me. I also wanted a really big and bright viewfinder. I narrowed my search down to the X-T1 for three reasons, but after using it, I found that there are many more reasons for buying it. But, of course, the main reason to buy any expensive camera is the image quality, and that Fuji really delivers on. My original three reasons for purchasing the X-T1 were 1) the viewfinder (It is as big and bright as my old Topcon Re supers' finders, which is probably the best optical viewfinder ever made for a 35 mm SLR camera; 2) the Fuji optics. I've owned Leica, Minolta, Olympus, Topcon, and other lenses, but the sharpest lens I ever owned was a Fuji EBC 100mm; 3) The tilt LCD display. A display that tilts makes so much sense and makes the camera much more versatile. No more lying on your stomach or standing on a step ladder. And the X-T1's LCD display is bright enough to be useful outdoors! The Fujifilm X series cameras are masterpieces of design and function. I love using the XT-1. I love the image quality it's capable off. I wouldn't change anything at all about this camera, it's perfect. (Mine was manufactured after the light leak and D-Pad problems were fixed.)If Fuji wanted to make any changes, it would not hurt to put a conventional door and latch on the receptical compartment. It would be nice also if the instructions for using Fujii software that are available via the Fujii website could be brought up to the same standards as their beautiful X series cameras. The Fujifilm X-T1 is a masterpiece of design and engineering, and the 18-55mm zoom lens is equally fine. Some folks have complained about the lack of markings on the aperature ring and said that it was too easily turned. There is no need for marks! They wouldn't make sense if there was any, because the aperature ring turns continuosly in either direction. The ring's movement is transmitted electronically, not mechanically. All you have to do is learn which direction to turn the ring to stop down and open up. If you want the f-stop, look in the view finder or glance at the LCD display. The ring won't turn by itself, just keep your hands off it, if you don't want to turn it. That requires that you learn where it is on the lens. The aperature ring is well separated from the zoom ring, and the knurling is different so you can also tell it is the aperature ring just by feel. Beautifully designed actually. It's a gorgeous lens.Thank you Fuji for giving us one of the greatest cameras yet. The X-T1 will become a classic! WOW! What a Camera.! I love this thing! And what a bargin. You have to pay thousands more to achieve in other cameras what the X-T1 can. The only reason to have a full frame, back breaking, ugly, plastic behemoth is if you have to blow your images up to giant size, or for some other bizarre purpose --sports photography through a 1000mm lens the size of a bazooka. If you have to have more then the X-T1 can give you, then wouldn't it make sense to go to a medium format? Hmmm, I wonder if that's on the drawing board at Fujifilm.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I bought this camera for street photography to supplement my Nikon D810. I wanted something lighter. This is a photographer's camera with lots of settings and capability. The surprise was the image quality. Super raw file images. The only negatives would be I tended to bump the shutter dial and shot in bracketing mode without knowing it. This is a give-for small cameras; however. The battery life is low so buy an extra or two!

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I agree with everything that folks say about this. I had a large DSLR and got tired of dragging it around. THIS X- T1 is fantastic. The focus is astounding. I got it with the 18-55 lens which is a brighter and lighter. Now the ONLY problem is the stupid battery charger. Why spend all this effort on making a small useful camera with a charger with a cord the width of an Anaconda snake. My charger is still in the box. Get the small Watson charger ( i got 2) which has no cord and plugs into the wall. Simple and small. Apart from that ( and short battery life - get an extra battery) the camera is a jewel. Can hardly wait for the firmware upgrade later this month.

Besides being light and easy to use the 18-55 is a sharp little lens especially for street and night photography. I have the 18 -135 now but it's smaller aperture and just big enough that it doesn't fit under the coat as easily.

One thing would be great if the camera would retain the settings and not default to the original setting when you turn it off, e.g. self timer.

What a fantastic camera, so versatile, well built, amazing picture quality – I have almost no complaints whatsoever. However, for this review to be of any use I shall list those minor flaws because ultimately as a potential buyer they're the only thing you need to know about this amazing machine. For everything else I award top marks.1. Battery display – it only has 3 bars, and when you're down to the last bar it doesn't last very long AT ALL. So be aware of that. You'll certainly need at least one spare battery. This is something Fuji could improve upon on a firmware update perhaps.2. Multiple exposures - this camera makes double exposures very easy, with its live preview of your original shot, and option to reshoot the exposure you just made, but double exposures are your maximum. There is no triple exposure function.I thought I had more little issues to complain about than this, but I honestly can't think of them. This camera has now replaced my Nikon DSLR and I look forward to building a collection of Fuji's excellent lenses. I recommend you do the same!

Both me and my wife enjoy photography, and go out and shoot regularly. We had an entry level Canon DSLR for a couple of years, and were planing an upgrade to 70D, but when we added up weight of a new body + better walk-around lens + lenses we already have, we went for the Fuji instead. Two main problems people point out in their reviews are completely basic video and not that fast continuous auto focus for action shooting. As both of those issues are irrelevant to what we do, I can only say that I find everything about this camera awesome. Only thing I've noticed is that battery life is significantly lower, but even that isn't such a big issue, as for our usage it means that instead of not even having or ever needing a backup battery for Canon, we will now buy one.

Pros: light, compact, fast focus, best LCD and EVF. Best color rendering for skin and landscape work.
Cons: picture sometime not as sharp as expected. could be lens or my focusing technique. Not impressed by OIS.

Los diales de control son muy cómodos, aunque el dial de puntos para enfoque es un poco pequeño, el iso de esta cámara es excelente y aunque solo tiene 16 mega pixeles su calidad es comparable a cualquier cámara full frame actual.

The Fuji XT1 is by far the best camera I have owned .I love the EVF and all the manual controls just make it feel like like a real camera should. The IQ is excellent.

I bought this camera to replace my Canon 6D because I didn't need or want to lug around a big heavy dslr. This camera does not disappoint. The image quality is outstanding, even at high ISO. The lens included is also great very sharp and small. Take the time to learn everything about this camera and you will shoot just like a dslr. I love this thing and I can't wait to get more amazing Fuji lenses!

Smaller than my old equipment and about the same picture quality. Focus speed behind the DSLRS, everything else excellent

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I am a semipro Landscape Fine Art photographer. I've used the Canon 7D/5D MK II for a few years now very successfully. We had previously acquired an X-Pro1 and loved the image quality. When the X-T1 came out, I knew I wanted it. It's an incredible camera. "Small But Mighty" This is my take everywhere/travel camera, but I think it stands a good chance to becoming my main squeeze. My prints are no larger than 12"x18", and the X-T1 is great for this size. The print image quality is excellent.I shoot mainly B&W and have a certain style with SEP. But as I learn more about the abilities of the X-T1 with film types and styles I get excited about the opportunities for re-inventing my photographic style. This camera is not only a tool for capturing images; it's a tool for inspiration. The only problem I've encountered with this camera is receiving "Card Errors" It's very finicky. You don't want to do anything with the files while on the SD Card. As long as I insert the SD Card in the reader, import into Lightroom and ensure that I eject the card before removing from the SD Card it's working fine. Also, you need to format the card in the camera immediately before use. I'll keep a close eye on this problem an update this review as needed. The card error issue is th only reason I gave this camera 4 stars. Oh, and improvments with battery life is expected.

Every time I turn on the camera with the 256gb sd card, it always ask to format the card (error message = card is not initialised)
