The Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera features a 16.3 megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS II sensor and an EXR Processor II to produce high-resolution imagery with an expandable sensitivity range from ISO 100-51200 as well as a top continuous shooting rate of 8 fps. Fujifilm's proprietary X-Trans sensor uses a unique randomized pixel array in order to avoid the use of a resolution-reducing optical low-pass filter, therefore providing images with the utmost sharpness and clarity. This imaging system is benefitted by the Intelligent Hybrid AF system, which uses both contrast- and phase-detection methods to acquire focus quickly and accurately. Enhanced manual focusing capabilities are also a result of these technologies; Digital Split Image and Focus Highlight Peaking are two methods for quickly and precisely determining focus using intelligent focusing aids for improved control and optimized efficiency.

For image monitoring, review, and menu navigation, both a 2,360k-dot OLED electronic viewfinder and a 3.0" 1,040k-dot tilting LCD screen are available. The body design extends this versatility through the implementation of manual, physical control dials on the top plate of the camera as well as customizable buttons and a Q Menu button for expedited access to some of the most useful settings. This control scheme further enables an intuitive built-in Wi-Fi system for direct sharing of imagery to an Android or iOS mobile device for instant sharing online.

Full HD 1080p movie recording in multiple frame rates is possible and a 2.5mm microphone input permits the use of an optional external microphone for improved audio quality with recordings. Full-time continuous focusing is supported while taking video, also, as well as the use of Film Simulation modes. Film Simulation modes make use of Fujifilm's history of producing both negative and slide films, and allow you to apply those films' characteristics to your digital imagery to better suit your intended look.

Included with the X-T1 is the XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS lens; a standard zoom lens providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 27-84mm, covering wide-angle to portrait-length perspectives. This lens integrates optical image stabilization to minimize the appearance of camera shake to benefit working with longer shutter speeds or greater focal lengths and a linear motor-drive AF system provides fast, smooth focusing capabilities.

16.3MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS II Sensor
A large 16.3MP APS-C CMOS image sensor is integrated into the X-T1 to provide high image quality and detail. Using Fujifilm's unique X-Trans bespoke pixel array, the sensor is designed with a randomized pixel pattern to eliminate the need of an optical low-pass filter for reducing moiré and aliasing. By removing this filter from the design, higher image sharpness is possible. Lens Modulation Optimizer (LMO) factors are also taken into account using the EXR Processor II, which helps to automatically compensate for aberrations and diffraction blur in order to produce images with the utmost inherent sharpness.

The X-Trans sensor also works to provide highly effective noise reduction and a clean signal-to-noise ratio. This enables smoother-looking imagery that becomes especially apparent when photographing in low-light situations with an expanded sensitivity range of ISO 100-51200. Additionally, a top continuous shooting rate of 8 fps is possible, for up to 47 consecutive frames, to benefit working with moving subject matter.
EXR Processor II
Aside from benefitting low-light performance, the EXR Processor II also provides quick performance throughout the entire camera system. The camera start-up time is about 0.5 seconds, shutter lag is about 0.05 seconds, and the shooting interval time is about 0.5 seconds. A fast autofocus performance speed of 0.08 seconds is also enabled using the advanced Intelligent Hybrid AF system using both contrast- and phase-detection focusing methods.
Intelligent Hybrid AF and Enhanced Manual Focus
Intelligent Hybrid AF is a quick, responsive autofocus system that employs both contrast- and phase-detection methods to acquire focus quickly in a wide variety of lighting conditions and shooting situations. Clear focus can quickly be attained to aid in catching fast-paced movement more easily. Three focus modes are available (AF-S, AF-C, and M) for greater control over how the X-T1 achieves sharp focus. When working with autofocus, the AF area is divided into a 49-point matrix in order to gain clear focus of any type of subject matter. Additionally, a built-in AF assist lamp is available for aiding the focus system when photographing in low-light situations.

When working with manual focus, two additional features can be employed for enhanced critical focusing in a more controllable manner. By using the phase-detection pixels located on the imaging sensor, Digital Split Image technology is able to assist in acquiring precise focus through the implementation of four striped focusing aids; akin to a rangefinder focusing method, once these stripes have been lined up, sharp focus can be ensured. Also contributing to manual focus accuracy, Focus Peak Highlight has been integrated and enables a more objective system of focusing by way of highlighting sharp edges and lines of contrast, using one of three colors, once they are in focus.
Multi Mode Real Time Viewfinder
An advanced electronic viewfinder has been incorporated into the X-T1's design to support clear eye-level monitoring along with a host of unique viewing features to better support a more efficient overall workflow. The Real Time Viewfinder is comprised of a 2,360k-dot OLED display and features an exceptionally high magnification of 0.77x, along with a 31° angle of view. This perspective is further complemented by the 0.005 sec. lag time, which smoothly and seamlessly renders scenes and moving subjects.

Beyond the technical aspects of the viewfinder, an adaptable graphical user interface has also been designed to increase efficiency during shooting. Four different viewing modes are available:

  • FULL: This mode takes advantage of the high magnification ratio of the viewfinder and produces an image that fills the majority of the viewfinder in an unobstructed manner. Shooting information is presented at the top and bottom edges and does not interfere with the image frame itself.
  • NORMAL: This mode enables you to focus on the composition at hand while still having an in-depth understanding of camera settings and shooting conditions.
  • VERTICAL: When the camera is held in a vertical orientation, the information display automatically rotates so it is facing upright for easier reading of camera settings. When working in this mode, images can also be reviewed in the vertical orientation.
  • DUAL: Serving to benefit those working with manual focus, this mode presents a split screen view of the scene where you see both a regular view as well as the Focus Assist View (Focus Highlight Peaking and Digital Split Image) at the same time, allowing you to concentrate on the image composition as well as critical focus accuracy.

  • In addition to the four viewing modes, the shooting information displayed within the viewfinder can also be customized to suit one's needs. 19 different settings can be toggled on or off depending on preference.
    Classic Camera Design
Featuring a body design reminiscent of SLR film cameras, the X-T1 exhibits a meshing of both analog exposure controls along with intelligent automated technologies. The clean and functional body design incorporates physical shutter speed, ISO, drive mode, AF mode, and +/- 3 EV exposure compensation double-deck precision-milled aluminum alloy dials that pair well with the manual aperture rings found on many of the XF lenses for intuitive exposure setting selection. Depending on individual needs, six customizable buttons, dual command dials, and an easily-accessible Q Menu provide an efficient solution for modifying some of the most frequently used camera settings, such as ISO, white balance, and file settings. For more extensive menu navigation, as well as live view monitoring and image review, a 3.0" 1,040k-dot LCD monitor is available and features a tilting design to better support working from high and low angles.

Furthermore, the magnesium alloy body also features approximately 80 points of weather sealing to protect itself from dust and moisture, as well as temperatures as low as 14°F, for confident use in trying conditions.
    Full HD Movie Recording
Full HD 1080p video recording is supported up to 60 fps, with other frame rates and formats also available. Full-time AF tracking is available during recording with subject tracking capabilities for ensured sharpness when either the subject is moving or if the camera is moving, panning, or zooming. +/- 2 EV exposure compensation is available during recording as well as the use of Film Simulation settings.

An HDMI port enables high definition playback of movies to an HDTV and the inclusion of a 2.5mm input supports the use of an optional external microphone for enhanced sound quality.
    Built-In Wi-Fi Connectivity
Wireless connectivity is built into the camera and allows for instant sharing of images directly to an Android or iOS mobile device. The Fujifilm Camera Remote app allows you to browse the image contents of your camera from your mobile device and transfer both videos and photos, and the entire sharing process is further expedited by simply pressing and holding the dedicated Wi-Fi button to begin transferring immediately. Remote camera control and monitoring is also supported through the use of the app, which enables Touch AF, shutter release, exposure settings adjustment, Film Simulation modes, white balance modes, macro, timer, and flash controls to all be adjusted from the linked mobile device. Location data can also be embedded into image file's metadata for geotagging.
Film Simulation Mode and Advanced Filters
Taking advantage of Fujifilm's vast history in traditional film-based photography, the X-T1 integrates several Film Simulation modes to mimic the look and feel of some Fujifilm's classic film types. Pulling from their line of transparency films, PROVIA offers natural-looking tones for everyday shooting, VELVIA produces a more dramatic and rich tonality with deeper color saturation, and ASTIA gives less contrast for a softer depiction of skin tones. Mimicking their negative films, PRO Neg. Std. gives smooth image tones that are suitable for accurate color renditions, while PRO Neg. Hi produces a more dramatic feel with the ability to draw color out of a variety of lighting conditions. In addition to the colorful benefits of these Film Simulation modes, there are also monochrome modes that simulate the look of traditional yellow, green, and red black and white contrast filters. A sepia mode is also available for producing an inherently nostalgic look.

Eight Advanced Filters are also available to creatively enhance the look of imagery, and include: High Key, Low Key, Soft Focus, Toy Camera, Miniature, Pop Color, Dynamic Tone, and Partial Color (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple).
    Fujinon XF18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS
The included XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 27-84mm, covering wide-angle to portrait-length perspectives to suit working with most everyday subject matter. An optical image stabilization system counters the appearance of camera shake by up to four shutter speed steps and a linear-driven autofocus motor helps to produce quick and smooth focusing performance. Three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element work to minimize chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range while also benefitting overall image clarity and sharpness. A Super EBC coating has also been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for a enhanced contrast and neutral colors.
    Other Camera Features
  • An in-camera RAW converter lets you record your images in 14-bit RAW and process them prior to computer-based editing procedures. This process enables you to modify the exposure, white balance, and other controls directly through the menu interface. Additionally, for more thorough processing of files, RAW File Converter software is included for RAW image processing on your computer.
  • Interval shooting is possible with intervals of 1 second to 24 hours for up to 999 frames.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

This is one product that exceeded by expectations. I was tired of carrying around my D800 plus lenses for vacations, outings and most non critical functions and the XT-1 was the perfect solution. I was also surprised at how good Fuji's XF lens are. Certainly on a par with Nikon or Canon. The Xt-1 performs flawlessly and is intuitive to operate. While there are just a couple of things I would have changed (like a manual focus override after auto focus without having to set the focus to manual), none were more than just annoying. i would recommend this for anyone who wants to shed the weight of a good DSLR while not giving up any quality or functionality.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I have been holding off buying a mirrorless as an alternative to my heavy DSLR FF due to the lack of acceptable EVF. With the X-T1, the wait is over. The EVF is large, bright and smooth. I also like the film simulations. Nice color. First time I had a camera which gave me so many images that did not require PP. Focusing speed cannot compare with DSLR but more accurate. Good for travel, portraits and landscape.

      Awesome Versatile Camera

      By Blitz

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

This camera is exactly what I needed. Sharp photos, weather sealed smaller body, tilting lcd, versatilty, lenses, app to export photos to phone via wifi and app to remote control the camera. The only downsides I can think of is that Fuji has yet to put out a flash system that at par with Canon or Nikon snd battery life could be better.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

Excellent image quality. The kit lens (18-55 mm) provides stunning image quality from edge to edge. I am still mastering the Fuji filemenus and further features of this camera, but have been taking stellar photos from day 1. Highly recommended piece of equipment for amateur and laboratory photography.
To the blog and review readers: The back-buttons have apparently been improved significantly from the original iteration of the device.
However the battery life is 1 day of shooting.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I had a bunch of DSLR equipment that was gathering dust, since it was heavy and cumbersome. When I started investigating into a smaller and a bit cheaper system, I found the X-T1. Don't be fooled by it's small size, it's a powerful camera that can rival older DSLRs, like the one I sold. The only drawback is action shots, which isn't its strong suit. There is a learning curve too, if you are coming from a different system, but it adds to the excitement of the camera. Fuji's lenses are amazing and I don't miss my old ones at all!

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I spent 18 months reviewing camera systems before purchasing this camera, and went through the whole process, from thinking I would buy the Nikon D610 full frame for image quality to wanting a mirrorless system for light weight. In the end I decided that it was more important to take this on a 15 mile dayhike than to have a heavier camera that wouldn't fit my go lite hiking style. I was not disappointed. Image quality is excellent, and the lens options are super, with more fine lenses on the way.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I had to lighten my equipment due to shoulder and back problems. I've been using Nikon D700 and 3 Nikor lenses that range from 14mm to 200mm - all 2.8 fast lenses. Heard about Fugi X-T1 to use for a recent photography workshop trip and boy am I hooked. It takes great images and so light. I also bought the 55-200mm and the 10-24mm. I won't sell off all my Nikons just yet, but I know it won't be too long in the future.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

So far I am very impressed with the X-T1. I decided to get it as a lighter travel camera and have enjoyed the quality of build and images. The kit lens is giving me nice, sharp images and I look forward to adding a new lens soon and try out my Nikon F lenses with a lens adapter soon to arrive. It's also great to be able to shoot full manual with retro controls instead of going through digital menus or buttons to set iso, f-stop and shutter.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

Smaller, lighter, and more usable than my DSLR's. Complete control of almost all common settings without going through menus. The clarity and color are superb, noise is almost non existent, and the lenses are outstanding. Some of the buttons are difficult to access by touch, and the lock on the ISO dial is unnecessary. Just about everything else is difficult to fault.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I bought this camera for travel and street photography based on the experience of serious photographers whom I respect. The image quality is excellent especially with a bundled lense. The speed of focus is very good. The rotating lcd screen is useful in street photography situations, allowing one to compose without tipping off the subject. Multiple exposure, panoramic setting, etc. are icing on the cake. It takes a while to get used to the electronic viewfinder image (as opposed to an optical viewfinder) as, depending on the light direction and intensity, there may be temporary flare. The included on camera flash works seamlessly with the camera when flash is needed. The "Auto" setting for white balance is very good. The only negatives are related to the lack of aperture markings on the barrel of the lens and the camera top knobs for setting Iso, shooting mode, and shutter speed. While zooming it is too easy to change the aperture setting accidentally. While selecting the ISO it is too easy to unintentionally change the shooting mode, eg. single, continuous, pano, or multiple exposure.

I traded in my bulky SLR gear, and went for the Fuji. I honestly have to say, it has made me enjoy taking pictures again.

The image quality has blown me away, and the handling of the camera is very comfortable. I honestly can't see me going back to a DSLR again.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

First off, I need to give some perspective on where my opinion is coming from. My last camera (Olympus E-510) is 8 years old so this is a major upgrade for me. If you are switching from a more modern camera the features of the X-T1 might not be as "wow" for you. Also, I'm in my 40's and grew up with film cameras so I was very excited to see the return of dials. I HATE menus and buttons!

In a week of using the X-T1 I have absolutely loved being able to glance at the camera and know exactly what my settings are. The controls/settings are intuitive, at least for someone of my age. It has a very nice look and feel, with the exception of the side doors, which are extremely flimsy. The programmable function buttons are easy to set up, and if you press and hold them it takes you right to the possible settings for that button. Nice touch. But I do have to agree with everyone else that the directional buttons on the back are pretty bad and are very hard to feel.

Some online reviews have been very critical of the auto-focus system. The auto-focus has not been an issue at all for me and has been spot-on, whether it's in single or continuous auto-focus. Continuous high and low speed shooting have also worked well, and I'm using a UHS-I card (SanDisk 32 GB SDHC Extreme Pro Class 10 UHS-I) since the UHS-II cards are $$$, and as I predicted, unnecessary. Transferring the data from the card to your computer is best done with a card reader, since the X-T1 does not come with a USB/data cable to attach it your computer, plus the wifi connectivity is way too slow to transfer files.

The kit lens is great and the auto-focus is very quiet. The shutter noise/feel is a nice tactile "click", but it can be turned off in silent mode. The EVF is totally fantastic! If you have any doubts or concerns about it, don't. The image is crisp and as clear as you'd see on any DSLR/SLR and you see all the information that you'd see on the large screen in the EVF.

It is hard to be totally objective in reviewing the X-T1 because so much of the experience is emotional. The dials, look and feel make taking photos fun again! As I stated, it has only been a week with the X-T1, but I can only think that my opinion of it will increase. It is not only a joy to use, but also to look at and feel. Dare I say it's sexy? I look forward to years of shooting with the X-T1.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

My first ever mirror less camera and i am highly impressed. Great build quality and great picture in a small form factor. The EVF works beautifully and I love the histogram overlay in the viewfinder. After carrying a Nikon D800e all day, you really appreciate that this rig weighs only half as much. Batt life seems to be a little below average. Auto focus is reasonably fast and very accurate with the 18-55 kit lens which is a stunning performer. The six (yes, six) assignable function buttons let you quickly access the most important settings easily. There is also a "Q" or quick menu access button to further access settings by category to avoid the too frequent forays into the whole menu system. The integrated WiFi works like a charm on my iPad Air, and my iPod touch, giving a real time Live View and control of shooting with numerous parameters. I feel there are a few items missing but the feature works great and is presumably a work in progress. This is something that Nikon and others should have done a long time ago. In conclusion, the camera is a joy to hold and to use . If this was the only camera and lens I had to use , I would never complain.

Bought sight unseen to replace weighty and fading DSLR kit, the Fuji X-T1 delivers in spades: intuitive control pelcement (even the multiple function buttons which are easy to program to suit), full and finely tuned adjustments, awesome EVF, essential feedback on screen - all lead to a rewarding shooting experience. Then you see the results - a leap into higher quality territory: sharp across the frame, accurate colours, great subject separation. Looking forward to a long life together....

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I am enjoying learning how to use this camera. I like the manual controls with the 6 programmable buttons. The pictures that I have taken are great, I am impressed with the low light performance. I haven't found the directional controls to be difficult to use as others have indicated. My only regret is that I purchased this camera too early since my camera does have the light leak problem when the connector cover door is open. I know I can cover up the leak with tape but that shouldn't be required on a high quality product. Quality control has failed on the early batch of cameras, this should not have happened! Hoping that Fuji is very prompt fixing the problem on my camera, I was planning to take the camera with me on an extended trip soon.

I would give it five stars if the manual was any good since some functions are not explained at all and even online you can't find.
A very big con on the camera itself is the 4 way control buttons. It is almost impossible to feel them when you have the camera on your eye. Really terrible.
                    The rest is pretty good.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I only had the X-t1 for 2 weeks, but I am already regretting returning it!
I am on a limited budget, and when I heard that the Nikon D4S was announced, I was sure that I would need to upgrade for better low light performance. (I shoot theater and stage shows, predominately.)
Now, that more info is coming out on the D4S, I am not so sure.
The X-t1 gives really great clean files at 3200 and even at 6400 iso, if you have the exposure right.
My only complaint with it, not fuji's fault, is that there is no real support for the raw files, yet
It is a solid, lightweight, marvel, and I may rebuy very soon.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

                      Pros:
Great images, great bokeh (with the 23mm 1.4)
small and light, good AF speed (when it worked). I intended to use this to photo our new baby.

                      Con:
Focus was broken on my camera (my old panasonic would focus faster), since it would only grab 1 in 10 pictures (tried different lens), there was dust spots on the new sensor, and the LCD would go blank at odd times when using the kit lens. I'll wait until they get all the gremlins out of the production line, but this camera is great.

Comments about Fujifilm X-T1 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I switch from full frame camera to this mirror less. I love its size and weight. It's hard to control at first but you'll get used to it so soon.
