The silver Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera is a compact, ergonomically-designed camera featuring a 16.1 megapixel Live MOS sensor and TruePic VII image processor to produce high-resolution still imagery and full HD 1080p video with notable low-light quality and high-speed performance. The combination of these two technologies enables a high sensitivity range from ISO 100-25600 and continuous shooting up to 8 fps. The sensor also lends itself to an enhanced FAST autofocus system that utilizes a contrast-detection focusing method to efficiently acquire focus with selectable focus areas for even greater precision. Also benefitting image sharpness is in-body 3-axis image stabilization that compensates for angular shifts and rolling camera shake.

Both a high-resolution electronic viewfinder and tilting touchscreen monitor are available for live view monitoring, image playback, and menu navigation. The EVF features a 1,440k-dot resolution and 1.15x magnification for comfortable eye-level viewing with the ability to preview image effects in real-time. Alternatively, the 3.0" 1,037k-dot tilting touchscreen LCD monitor can tilt upward 80° or downward 50° to suit working from high and low angles and its touchscreen design provides an intuitive means for controlling settings and navigating through the menu system. For refined off-board control and image sharing, built-in wireless connectivity is available and, when paired with the Olympus Image Share app for iOS and Android mobile devices, remote sharing and control over the camera is possible.

Included with the camera body is the M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R standard zoom lens, which provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 28-84mm. It features quiet autofocus and zooming operation to benefit recording movies and also incorporates three aspherical elements into its design to reduce aberrations and produce notable image sharpness and quality.

16.1MP Live MOS Sensor and TruePic VII Image Processor
The 16.1 megapixel Live MOS sensor and TruePic VII image processor, with Fine Detail Processing II, work in concert to enable high-resolution still imagery, full HD video recording, and notable low-light quality and sensitivity to ISO 25600. The combination of these two technologies also helps to promote high-speed performance throughout the camera system, including a top shutter speed of 1/4000 sec. with a mechanical shutter, a continuous shooting rate up to 8 fps with single-shot AF, and continuous 3.5 fps shooting with continuous autofocus.

Additionally, full HD 1080p movie recording is supported at 30 fps with stereo sound in either the MOV or AVI format. Simultaneous shooting, up to 5 fps, is also possible in P/A/S/M modes at 5.8MP resolution, without interrupting the movie recording.
In-Camera 3-Axis Image Stabilization
In-body VCM (Voice Coil Motor) image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake with any lens in use and compensates for camera movements that become especially noticeable when working with telephoto shots, macro imagery, and long exposures. Furthermore, this unique image stabilization system works across three axes, versus the conventional two axes, and compensates for vertical and horizontal shifts (yaw and pitch) as well as camera shake along the optical axis (roll). This range of detected movements serves to benefit traditional still image shooting as well as movie recording and working with moving subjects more effectively.
Electronic Viewfinder and 3.0" Tilting Touchscreen
For eye-level viewing, a bright 1,440k-dot electronic viewfinder is integrated into the design and features an automatic eye-detect function, 0.007 sec. display lag time, and 1.15x magnification. This finder enables realistic, high resolution viewing in a comfortable position that is especially beneficial when working in bright conditions. The adaptive brightness settings also enable easier viewing in different lighting conditions, with the brightness being set according to surrounding conditions to better simulate the use of an optical viewfinder.

In addition to the viewfinder, a large 3.0" 1,037k-dot tilting touchscreen LCD monitor is also available for live view monitoring, image playback, and menu navigation. The monitor's design can tilt 80° upward and 50° downward, making it well-suited to use from both high and low angles. The intuitive touchscreen control offers a range of additional functionality, too, including the ability to touch to release the shutter, select the focusing point, magnify the image, apply filter effects, and navigate through images and settings.
FAST Autofocus System
Benefitting the quickened shooting performance of the E-M10, a contrast-detection focusing method employs 81 AF areas to quickly and accurately acquire focus. Aptly named, FAST (Frequency Acceleration Sensor Technology) is able to home in on subjects using single-shot or continuous focusing methods, as well as AF tracking to benefit working with moving subjects. In addition to standard Small Target and Group Target focusing areas, Super Spot AF can also be used to acquire focus in a smaller, more refined area for critical accuracy.

When working with manual focus, focus peaking and manual focus assist functions are available to simplify attaining precise sharpness, which is especially useful when using selective focus or shallow depth of field techniques.
Built-In Wireless Connectivity
By using the Olympus Image Share app, wireless control of the E-M10 is possible through using linked iOS and Android mobile devices. The mobile device can be used to preview compositions, choose a specific AF point, and release the shutter via the intuitive app interface. Linking of mobile devices to the camera is possible through an intuitive QR Code Connect system, which displays a unique QR code on the camera's monitor which can then be recognized by a mobile device for instant linking.
M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R Lens
Included with the E-M10 is the versatile M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R zoom lens, which provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 28-84mm. Three aspherical elements have been incorporated into the lens' design to help reduce chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range and also contribute to high image sharpness and clarity. The lens is designated as MSC (Movie & Still Compatible), making it ideal for video recording due to its quick and near-silent focusing performance.
Other Camera Features
  • Constructed from metal, the camera body features retro-inspired design with easily-accessible 2 x 2 dial controls for streamlined adjustment over camera settings.
  • A built-in pop-up flash is available for additional illumination and supports wireless flash control within four channels and four groups.
  • The Color Creator feature allows for adjusting hue and chroma directly in the EVF with results visible in real-time. This, coupled with an intuitive GUI, permits more finite and exacting control over the color balance of an image.
  • Fine Detail II technology automatically corrects for chromatic aberration based on the specific lens in use. Natural-appearing high-resolution quality is attained by applying intelligent sharpening techniques based on the lens' focal length and aperture value being used.
  • HDR Preview emulates the finalized look of an HDR image in the viewfinder prior to the camera processing the images together, allowing greater control and selectivity over how extended dynamic range images are taken. HDR photos are possible with up to a 12 EV-wide range of bracketed shots.
  • 12 Art Filters are available for creatively enhancing imagery and movies: Pop Art, Soft Focus, Pale & Light Color, Light Tone, Grainy Film, Pin Hole, Diorama, Cross Process, Gentle Sepia, Dramatic Tone, Key Line, and WaterColor. 7 Art Effects are also available: Soft Focus Effect, Pin-Hole Effect, White Edge Effect, Frame Effect, Star Light Effect, Diorama Effect, Pict. Tone (Sepia, Blue, Purple, Green).
  • Photo Story allows recording of a scene from multiple viewpoints, which are then composited into a single image using a range of pre-defined formats and themes.
  • Interval shooting permits sequential recording of 1-999 shots, with 1 second to 24 hour intervals, to easily shoot a series of consecutive photos. Furthermore, the series of images can be converted to a time-lapse movie for more simplified playback.
  • Live Bulb and Live Time modes allows you to view the progression of exposure during bulb and time exposure in real-time and a live view histogram shows how the exposure is built-up across all points of the image.
  • Live Composite Mode allows you to intuitively capture star-scapes and other long exposures in real time.
  • Multiple Exposure shooting allows for the stacking of sequential exposures within the same frame for creative results.
  • Face Detect, Face Priority, and Eye Detection allow you to select different priorities for basing focus and exposure on. Up to eight separate faces can be detected and Eye Detection allows you to select either the right or left eye to prioritize.
  • A built-in level gauge aids in creating perfectly level compositions based on the horizon and architectural elements within the scene.
  • Picture Modes: i-Enhance, Vivid, Natural, Muted, Portrait, Monotone, Custom, e Portrait, Color Creator, and Art Filters.
  • Language support: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Russian, Czech, Dutch, Danish, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Croat, Slovenian, Hungarian, Greek, Slovakian, Turkish, Latvian, Estonian, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Rumanian, Indonesian, Malay, and Thai.

I'm a photo enthusiast who was looking to get into the low-mid level DSLR cameras when I stumbled upon the mirrorless cameras. After much investigation I narrowed down my search to the E-M10 and the Sony A6000. Both cameras received excellent reviews, have great features, and scored high marks for image quality. What swayed me to the E-M10 was the micro 4/3 lens mount and the large selection of lenses available for it.

I've been using the E-M10 for a couple weeks now and it is a great camera to use once you familiarize yourself with the settings and controls. There is a lot that can be configured and customized to help you get the most out of the system. The RAW image quality is excellent and is what I will use from now on. The camera does a decent job with JPEG compression but you can get better results in a similar file size by exporting a JPEG from the RAW file on a computer. The twin control dials are very easy to access and have a great feel. The function buttons can be a little difficult to access if you have big hands or longer fingers. The camera body feels high quality and has good thumb and finger grips. My hands are medium sized and I like how the camera feels. The auto focus fast and works well in most situations but it does have trouble in low light or low contrast shooting situations. The electronic viewfinder has great resolution, brightness, and can display all kinds of information while framing your shot. The touch screen LCD is also great and can help you change settings quickly if you don't want to use the dials and directional pad. The in body image stabilization works very well but you can turn it off and still use lenses with built in image stabilization.

There's a lot more to this camera but overall this is an excellent camera that you can just pick up and start shooting or dig deep into the settings, customize the controls, and take advantage of the high end features it has to offer.

After I got the battery all charged up, I tried to operate the camera. It made a faint clicking sound, the monitor turned a very dark shade of blue-gray, and then the camera shut itself off within 4 seconds. After multiple tries, I finally boxed it back up, and of course I'll be sending it back in for a refund or replacement.

However, I was impressed by the manual. The camera has tons of things you can tweak, like auto-bracketing not only exposure but also flash intensity. BTW it is the only OMD camera that has a built-in flash. And you can add an "art effect" after you take the picture---and so the camera saves the newly modified photo as a separate image. The camera's menus are a geeks paradise

I have. a LUMIX GH3 and a small assortment of micro 4/3 lenses, but I wanted to get a smaller M4/3 camera for an overseas trip. I was planning on getting an (operating) M10, and taking the LUMIX 15mm, the Leica 25mm, and the Olympus 45mm on the trip. But it has occurred to me that that combination of lenses (wide angle thru slight tele) is pretty much what comes on an all-in-one camera such as the LUMIX LX100. So now I am contemplating getting that camera instead. There are sure a lot of great choices nowadays for digital camera buyers!

Comments about OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens (Silver):

I've been looking for an easy to use camera to use as I try to improve my photography skills. The OM-D E-M10 with it's automatic and numerous optional settings was just what I needed. I can already tell a positive difference between pictures taken with this camera and the quality I've settled with on my phone for several years.

This is the perfect travel camera based on its small size and the quality of images. This will replace my full size DSLR for my general travel opportunities. I purchased this camera and a number of accessories including the 150 mm lens, extra battery, and remote shutter release. So far, extremely happy.

Comments about OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens (Silver):

This is the second Olympus EM-10 I have purchased. Both of them are in the hands of my sons who are wanting to get more serious about their photography. This camera produces high quality files and I have printed 30x40 inch canvas prints from this camera that look very nice. The technology in this camera is very impressive for those who want to venture out into new features. The bracketing options are plentiful and I love the feature that allows the image to develop before you eyes on the LCD screen when doing long exposure photography. The menus are somewhat complex and it takes some commitment to dig in and understand the many options offered by this camera. That might turn off some photographers but be a plus for others. Focus on this camera is very fast for static subjects but it is not the right camera for fast moving sports or wildlife. Overall it is a great value for the price.

Decided to try out mirror less camera system, after shooting with DSLRs for years this felt like a toy to me but the pictures are really good.
I had no problem with the menu but then again I love playing with menus on new cameras I get Turned off the wireless function because I never use it and so far the battery life is good with this turned off
I am happy I got it--and another thing what sold me on this model was that it had a viewfinder even though it is EVF and in the bright Arizona sun I could see it clearly and also the menu Nice fast autofocus also

Comments about OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens (Black):

The last time I owned an Olympus camera was back in the 60's and when looking for a new camera I ran across the Super Deal that B&H was offering so I bought one with the kit lens (14-42mm IIR). Just like the "old days", the camera is well built. Extremely compact but beefy feeling. The kit lens is extra small and very light since it's plastic but much to my surprise it is plenty sharp. I did some research on the Internet and ended up changed some of the camera settings from the factory defaults as advised which improved the quality of the images considerably. Head shot portraits with flash yield very rich images. Not only can you see the eyelashes but every blood vessel is crisp. I was floored!

I bought this camera as a backup for my Nikon D610 as there are times that I do not want to lug around such a big camera and lenses. I am amazed at the quality of the pictures that I am taking. I am shooting in RAW and they are very sharp and very little noise. I took it into a museum that does not allow flash photography and the light level was very low. I set in on "P" and it set the ISO @ 1600 and the clarity of the pictures is amazing. I thought that I would be wanting to have much more that 14-42mm lens, but it really works quite well especially for inside work and walk around in crowds. The movable LCD screen is great and being able to touch the area that I want to focus on and it takes the picture is great.

        Arrived DEAD on Arrival

Comments about OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens (Silver):

I have a d5200 that I have used for quite a while now. I wanted a smaller camera that I could carry in cargo pants when I go out in the warmer months here in Michigan. This is a nice compromise of portability vs. IQ....the camera is just a lot of fun. I am still learning the menus but will get the hang of it....the 3-axis IBIS is phenomenal. The EVF is pretty amazing!

One small problem is the front dial became loose shortly after I received it and eventually fell off! I contacted B&H and got a replacement RFA. The new camera seems more solid (front dial-wise).

Images are really nice when a fast lens is used like a Panasonic 20mm f/1.7. The kit lens (14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 R)is excellent in good light.

I am a professional photographer getting back into the profession after twenty years. I have been very pleased with the quality of the photos. The learning curve on all its *many* features has taken some time, but after a few weeks of practice and a careful study of the manual, I'm finally getting comfortable with it.

I was very pleased to find a camera with such a high quality result for such a reasonable price.

I needed a camera to take on vacation. I normally use a Nikon D800 but it has become to heavy to travel with. The Olympus ill not take award winning photo, but for travel snapshots, it is a great camera. Also .... you will get very good photos for a small investment in equipment ...

Olympus always have the best design and the O-M10 is no exception. It's beautiful. And don't judge it by the small body, this one can take very good photos.

People with large hands will feel the need for a grip though.

Comments about OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens (Black):

This camera (camera type more specifically) isn't for everyone. I'm only an amateur photography, shooting the occasional portrait and architecture mostly. I had a DSLR for many years and loved it. The only problem for me was, it was clunky. If I wanted to carry my camera around and just toss it into my backpack when I wasn't shooting, I felt that I was adding a lot to my bag.

With this camera, the size is what sold me. It has a slim design, but not to slim where it feels flimsy. It's all metal, and feels like it! It's a sturdy camera.

The image quality is amazing too. I was hesitant in putting my trust in such a small camera, but I was proven wrong with some of the photos I took and published.

If you're looking for a more casual camera, go with this one. It has everything your DSLR has, if not more. I would consider converting completely to this family of camera.

Comments about OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens (Silver):

This camera is great for beautiful quality photos for everyday use. The zoom range is very limited but is not a deal breaker for me personally. The weight is light but substantial at the same time so it doesn't feel cheap or easily breakable. I was a bit intimidated to use the dials when I first got the camera but with just a short time playing around with the manual next to me and I realized there was nothing to it and I was having a ton of fun playing with the various shooting options. Pop-up flash is fine for me. There is a a place to attach a better one at the top if that is something you want to improve. I expect this camera to last me a long time and would highly recommend it.

I have played a little bit with this camera over the past 3 days and I keep finding more reasons why I love it! First off I am a pro photographer and I love my D4s. However I wanted a camera I could take anywhere any time. This is a great system for that. I will be bringing this on a mountain summit trip in CO and I look forward to having a lighter setup, a quality sensor, RAW, Timelapes, video, and image stabilization. The 3 axis stabilizer is awesome and excellent with the video. Great camera so pleased I got the Em10. I can see Mirrorless being the way of the future even for the working pro. Take & Talk Pics
