The silver Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera is a compact, ergonomically-designed camera featuring a 16.1 megapixel Live MOS sensor and TruePic VII image processor to produce high-resolution still imagery and full HD 1080p video with notable low-light quality and high-speed performance. The combination of these two technologies enables a high sensitivity range from ISO 100-25600 and continuous shooting up to 8 fps. The sensor also lends itself to an enhanced FAST autofocus system that utilizes a contrast-detection focusing method to efficiently acquire focus with selectable focus areas for even greater precision. Also benefitting image sharpness is in-body 3-axis image stabilization that compensates for angular shifts and rolling camera shake.

Both a high-resolution electronic viewfinder and tilting touchscreen monitor are available for live view monitoring, image playback, and menu navigation. The EVF features a 1,440k-dot resolution and 1.15x magnification for comfortable eye-level viewing with the ability to preview image effects in real-time. Alternatively, the 3.0" 1,037k-dot tilting touchscreen LCD monitor can tilt upward 80° or downward 50° to suit working from high and low angles and its touchscreen design provides an intuitive means for controlling settings and navigating through the menu system. For refined off-board control and image sharing, built-in wireless connectivity is available and, when paired with the Olympus Image Share app for iOS and Android mobile devices, remote sharing and control over the camera is possible.

Included with the camera body is the M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R standard zoom lens, which provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 28-84mm. It features quiet autofocus and zooming operation to benefit recording movies and also incorporates three aspherical elements into its design to reduce aberrations and produce notable image sharpness and quality.

16.1MP Live MOS Sensor and TruePic VII Image Processor
The 16.1 megapixel Live MOS sensor and TruePic VII image processor, with Fine Detail Processing II, work in concert to enable high-resolution still imagery, full HD video recording, and notable low-light quality and sensitivity to ISO 25600. The combination of these two technologies also helps to promote high-speed performance throughout the camera system, including a top shutter speed of 1/4000 sec. with a mechanical shutter, a continuous shooting rate up to 8 fps with single-shot AF, and continuous 3.5 fps shooting with continuous autofocus.

Additionally, full HD 1080p movie recording is supported at 30 fps with stereo sound in either the MOV or AVI format. Simultaneous shooting, up to 5 fps, is also possible in P/A/S/M modes at 5.8MP resolution, without interrupting the movie recording.
In-Camera 3-Axis Image Stabilization
In-body VCM (Voice Coil Motor) image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake with any lens in use and compensates for camera movements that become especially noticeable when working with telephoto shots, macro imagery, and long exposures. Furthermore, this unique image stabilization system works across three axes, versus the conventional two axes, and compensates for vertical and horizontal shifts (yaw and pitch) as well as camera shake along the optical axis (roll). This range of detected movements serves to benefit traditional still image shooting as well as movie recording and working with moving subjects more effectively.
Electronic Viewfinder and 3.0" Tilting Touchscreen
For eye-level viewing, a bright 1,440k-dot electronic viewfinder is integrated into the design and features an automatic eye-detect function, 0.007 sec. display lag time, and 1.15x magnification. This finder enables realistic, high resolution viewing in a comfortable position that is especially beneficial when working in bright conditions. The adaptive brightness settings also enable easier viewing in different lighting conditions, with the brightness being set according to surrounding conditions to better simulate the use of an optical viewfinder.

In addition to the viewfinder, a large 3.0" 1,037k-dot tilting touchscreen LCD monitor is also available for live view monitoring, image playback, and menu navigation. The monitor's design can tilt 80° upward and 50° downward, making it well-suited to use from both high and low angles. The intuitive touchscreen control offers a range of additional functionality, too, including the ability to touch to release the shutter, select the focusing point, magnify the image, apply filter effects, and navigate through images and settings.
FAST Autofocus System
Benefitting the quickened shooting performance of the E-M10, a contrast-detection focusing method employs 81 AF areas to quickly and accurately acquire focus. Aptly named, FAST (Frequency Acceleration Sensor Technology) is able to home in on subjects using single-shot or continuous focusing methods, as well as AF tracking to benefit working with moving subjects. In addition to standard Small Target and Group Target focusing areas, Super Spot AF can also be used to acquire focus in a smaller, more refined area for critical accuracy.

When working with manual focus, focus peaking and manual focus assist functions are available to simplify attaining precise sharpness, which is especially useful when using selective focus or shallow depth of field techniques.
Built-In Wireless Connectivity
By using the Olympus Image Share app, wireless control of the E-M10 is possible through using linked iOS and Android mobile devices. The mobile device can be used to preview compositions, choose a specific AF point, and release the shutter via the intuitive app interface. Linking of mobile devices to the camera is possible through an intuitive QR Code Connect system, which displays a unique QR code on the camera's monitor which can then be recognized by a mobile device for instant linking.
M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R Lens
Included with the E-M10 is the versatile M.Zuiko Digital 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 II R zoom lens, which provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 28-84mm. Three aspherical elements have been incorporated into the lens' design to help reduce chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range and also contribute to high image sharpness and clarity. The lens is designated as MSC (Movie & Still Compatible), making it ideal for video recording due to its quick and near-silent focusing performance.
Other Camera Features
  • Constructed from metal, the camera body features retro-inspired design with easily-accessible 2 x 2 dial controls for streamlined adjustment over camera settings.
  • A built-in pop-up flash is available for additional illumination and supports wireless flash control within four channels and four groups.
  • The Color Creator feature allows for adjusting hue and chroma directly in the EVF with results visible in real-time. This, coupled with an intuitive GUI, permits more finite and exacting control over the color balance of an image.
  • Fine Detail II technology automatically corrects for chromatic aberration based on the specific lens in use. Natural-appearing high-resolution quality is attained by applying intelligent sharpening techniques based on the lens' focal length and aperture value being used.
  • HDR Preview emulates the finalized look of an HDR image in the viewfinder prior to the camera processing the images together, allowing greater control and selectivity over how extended dynamic range images are taken. HDR photos are possible with up to a 12 EV-wide range of bracketed shots.
  • 12 Art Filters are available for creatively enhancing imagery and movies: Pop Art, Soft Focus, Pale & Light Color, Light Tone, Grainy Film, Pin Hole, Diorama, Cross Process, Gentle Sepia, Dramatic Tone, Key Line, and WaterColor. 7 Art Effects are also available: Soft Focus Effect, Pin-Hole Effect, White Edge Effect, Frame Effect, Star Light Effect, Diorama Effect, Pict. Tone (Sepia, Blue, Purple, Green).
  • Photo Story allows recording of a scene from multiple viewpoints, which are then composited into a single image using a range of pre-defined formats and themes.
  • Interval shooting permits sequential recording of 1-999 shots, with 1 second to 24 hour intervals, to easily shoot a series of consecutive photos. Furthermore, the series of images can be converted to a time-lapse movie for more simplified playback.
  • Live Bulb and Live Time modes allows you to view the progression of exposure during bulb and time exposure in real-time and a live view histogram shows how the exposure is built-up across all points of the image.
  • Live Composite Mode allows you to intuitively capture star-scapes and other long exposures in real time.
  • Multiple Exposure shooting allows for the stacking of sequential exposures within the same frame for creative results.
  • Face Detect, Face Priority, and Eye Detection allow you to select different priorities for basing focus and exposure on. Up to eight separate faces can be detected and Eye Detection allows you to select either the right or left eye to prioritize.
  • A built-in level gauge aids in creating perfectly level compositions based on the horizon and architectural elements within the scene.
  • Picture Modes: i-Enhance, Vivid, Natural, Muted, Portrait, Monotone, Custom, e Portrait, Color Creator, and Art Filters.
  • Language support: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Russian, Czech, Dutch, Danish, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Croat, Slovenian, Hungarian, Greek, Slovakian, Turkish, Latvian, Estonian, Lithuanian, Ukrainian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Rumanian, Indonesian, Malay, and Thai.

Very happy with M-10 Did research for a long time, then I went to B&H (best and biggest photo shop in the world!, I could spend days in that place, just amazing shop, great people!!!!) I bought with grip, it is a must, I have small hands but this makes it much more comfortable to hold. Bought it with kit lens, 75-300 and Sigma 30mm. It won't replace my Nikon D-800 but whenever I travel this is the way to go.

Don't think twice about it. JUS BUY IT. WONT REGRET!!!!!!!

Comments about OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens (Black):

The learning curve is a little tedious partly because the camera can do so many functions.
Beyond the learning curve, the quality is tremendous! I have 3 lenses. I was looking for small/compact with good quality and speed.
This does it all for my purposes.

Comments about OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens (Black):

Shooting with a Nikon DSLR most of the time, I thought it would be difficult to get a second camera system for travel. The OM-D E-M10 is a 1/3 of the size of my D610, but is a great addition to my photographic arsenal. It's compact size allows for easy packing. But I've been really impressed with the quality of photos and ease of use. I'm not one to use all the fancy in-camera art settings, but they are some interesting options which seems easy to use.The wi-fi connectivity to devices is nice, but is a bit confusing to use. Battery life seems a bit short.

The camera is well made, works real well and it's veey easy to use. Leaning the menu and setup was something that took me a few days to understand how to operate. Once it's undterstood, the menu is easy to use. It has a 2 great manual focus modes which I think is very necessary with any contrast focus camera. Overall I think it is exactly the camera for me because it's quick and easy to make adjustments.

Comments about OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens (Silver):

Unbelievable what can be done with this little gem. Have done nature photography as well as family Christmas photos. Have done lots of candids with and without the flash. Both are good. Flash seems a little underpowered but still good. Shot nature photos to experiment and have been impressed. Used the 40-150 for most of those shots but also used 14-42. I like the ability to control imaging, just like with a full size DSLR. After a back injury, I was able to carry this rather than my full size Nikon system and still get some great shots. The weaknesses include a relatively short battery life so get an extra one. The battery charging cycle is long- 3.5 hours. Also the charger needs a cord wich is too bulky compared to the petite size of the system.

I purchased this camera intending to supplement a heavy Nikon D7000. After about two weeks of daily use, I'm impressed. It's small and light. I tend to keep a 25mm prime (50mm 35mm equivalent) on it, and with that lens it's a fast little shooter.I'm not thrilled with the menu system. It's confusing, and difficult to navigate. I'm still learning how to use the option of setting personal preferences.I'm not thrilled with the on board flash. It's small, it's very close to the lens (as is typical). It's slow to recycle.I can't find anything to complain about when it comes to the photos it lets me make. My typical subject is my family, and street shooting in NYC. It's more than capable of shooting in those situations.

Comments about OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens (Silver):

So, I'll start with the fact I am pretty new to photography - maybe a year or so..I'd been shooting with an Fujifilm X20 previously and this was my upgrade into a more "pro" world. I've had it for a couple weeks now and it's great! The physical makeup of the thing is great, unlike some compact systems - they put the various manual setting wheels in great places that you can reach with your thumbs and stuff on the top, unlike X20 which was all on the backside.I read lots of reviews of a confusing menu system, and it's not that bad.. I mainly do outdoor photography and street - so the small size is great. And for it's size, it makes lovely pictures. The moveable rear LCD is a good feature but I haven't really used it yet..Lens seem a bit expensive, but what can you do? The kit lens is great, but I'm thinking of getting a f1.8 25mm prime soon..Not so good..? I guess like any compact system, it can mean your struggling to find comfortable hand space when holding - but a $ 'grip' that seems easily available would answer that problem. My favourite thing so far - interestingly - is both the LCD viewfinder with all your exposure settings on there as you're shooting - but mainly, on that screen (and back LCD) is an exposure +/- rating.. So as your shooting manual, you can look at a numerical 'rating' of your exposure settings with 0 being ideal, and then under and over exposed being demonstrated up to a +/- 3.. This is great for me as I am trying to learn, but then am lazy and default to the priority settings because I found that trying to get the right exposure combo settings just took me forever in the first place - then the shot was gone. All in all - it's a great camera for most uses, extremely portable, and great quality for that portability.. It rained yesterday so I kinda envy the EM-5's weather proofing, but other than that.. 10/10 would recommend.

Casual photographer here. Best uses: Family photos, scenery, travel, lots of light. Worst uses: Action, video, low light. I downsized from a D60 for something smaller, plus I wanted to try out the mirrorless cameras. I love how small and compact it is. I love that there are 5x more lense options than the Sony? alternative. I love that it has a view finder--even if digital. I wish focus was faster (minus half a star) and I wish battery life was longer (minus half a star). The camera is REALLY fun to use and it has a great classy design to make you feel nice as you carry it around.

My plan was to downsize from a Nikon with big lens because the weight was just too much. I was directed to the Olympus Four Thirds by a friend and I am not disappointed. Light weight, easy to use and capable of quality images.I will not return to a larger camera after enjoying the convenience and size of this one. I will be adding more lens to the arsenal but for now am content with the 14-42 kits lens. Buy an extra battery but that is a small inconvenience compared to what this camera can do.

Comments about OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens (Silver):

Bottom Line: This does all that I required at the price I wanted to pay.
I purchased this to use while on the move- hiking, biking, traveling, street photography. While I love my Nikon D 610 camera I don't like the weight of the lenses I own. The Olympus was not meant to be a replacement for the Nikon so perhaps my criteria is less stringent than some.
The good- EVF, excellent picture quality, sharp pictures, touch screen controls including focus, RAW format, on camera flash for use as commander, 16.1 MP, size, weight, choice of lenses, live histogram, bright LCD- ability to use in sunlight, in camera stability, RAW format is supported in Photoshop CC. Expect a sharp learning curve but when it's all set up it is user friendly. This is a grab and go camera and fun to use.
Not so good- not weather sealed but I accepted that going in, user manual while detailed is not organized to my liking and must be downloaded/printed. Would suggest purchasing extra battery and hand grip.
              This camera has not disappointed.

I must confess that for the first thirty minutes I thought had made a serious mistake getting this camera. The settings and menus were completely inscrutable in the beginning, and the manual was not much help. Soon, however, I began to figure it out. Once I got the myriad of options set to my liking, I found that I really love the camera. The ergonomics are good for my small hands, and I am extremely happy with the image quality. I have almost the same capability as with my dSLR but without the weight.

Comments about OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens (Silver):

This camera has been great since day one. I chose to purchase a mirror less camera to travel with. I usually use a Nikon D-300 so I did not want to loose the ability to use my camera on fully manual and still have a view finder.

The camera takes great photographs that can be expanded up to 11x14 without any noticeable difference from the D-300.

The size along makes this camera worth while. It does have a little bit of a learning curve, but if you are familiar with DSLR cameras this shouldn't be too big a challenge.

Comments about OM-D E-M10 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm Lens (Black):

I consider myself a hobbyist. I have taken a few courses and have had the Canon G9, t2i and 70D. The 70D is a great camera, but it is too big to carry all the time. The OM-D E-M10 feels like it is a third of the size but has all the functionality.
I can take it on the street and not feel conspicuous. I find it very easy to shoot in manual with both shutter and aperture controls on the top. Aperture priority is easy too. The back top dial controls Aperture, the front Exposure Compensation.
You can research all the features, but if you are considering moving up from a point and shoot, I would recommend this camera over a DSLR. You can get a complete kit for much less money.
