The Comodo Orbit Handheld Stabilization Rig is a mechanically driven, twin grip gimbal stabilization system. Designed to support HDSLR/mirrorless cameras and small to medium sized camcorders weighing up to 11 pounds, the Orbit allows the camera operator to move freely around the subject, capturing entire scenes in a single take with just one camera. It is easy to balance and operate, requiring no additional weights, motors, or batteries. This makes the Orbit ideal for filmmakers of all levels to capture fluid and steady footage without a steep learning curve or long set-up times.

The Orbit utilizes two gimbal handgrips to isolate the camera from bumps and shakes, helping the camera to seemingly float in space. With a twin grip design, the stabilizer has the unique ability to be passed from one operator to another, allowing it to travel through windows or other tight spaces. Having two handgrips also reduces operator fatigue, letting you shoot longer than with single-handed stabilizers.

The camera attaches to the mounting platform via the included 1/4"-20 screw, which is conveniently stored on the unit in one of the many threaded accessory holes. The mounting plate is then attached to support arm. Balancing the camera is all about adjusting its horizontal and vertical position. The goal is to have it balanced along the pivot axis - the horizontal plane extending between the two gimbals - and to have its weight centered on the mounting plate so that it doesn't want to lean forwards or backwards.

Balancing adjustments are made using the vertical adjustment knob on the top of the unit and the horizontal adjustment knob on the back of the camera mounting platform. For larger camcorders, you may need to use the included extension arms to properly align it on the pivot axis. The Orbit comes with three pairs of extension arms, approximately 1", 2", and 3" in size, which can be used individually or added together to create longer lengths. A carrying case is included to store and protect the Orbit.

Dual Gimbal Handgrips
The Orbit is built around two advanced gimbals atop each handgrip, which provide fluid movement along multiple axes. Each gimbal independently moves to give let the camera seemingly float through the air. Having two handgrips also allows you to change directions quickly and smoothly, as well as reduce operator fatigue common to single-handed stabilizers.
Tilt Control
Unlike other stabilizers which keep the camera level at all times, the Orbit lets you adjust the tilt of the camera using your thumbs. Easily tilt the camera up or down while operating, letting you capturing low-angle and high-angle shots, or even mimic the effect of jib or crane-style shots.
Multi-Operator Capable
Passing the camera through a window, over an obstacle, or under a subject can often require highly trained camera operators with extensive amounts of equipment. The twin-style grips on the Orbit give filmmakers of all levels the ability to easily pass the rig from one operator to the next without upsetting the fluidity of the shot.

Comments about COMODO Orbit Handheld Stabilization Rig:

I didn't even want to give one star for this waste of money. I have used many stabilizers and was excited by this one thinking it might be like the MOVI. The footage they showed passing the stabilizer on can't be accurate as this thing takes on side to side movement like nothing I've ever seen before. The worst part of it was the medium extension tubes that came with it weren't even tapped to screw in. B&H contacted them for me and the company contacted me and shipped new ones to me. I just went to attach them and the diameter is too large to fit into the hole making them useless. Also the carrying case that it comes in is useless because as soon as you adjust it to your camera and go to put it away it won't fit back in the case. They told me they were redesigning a new case and would ship it to me when complete and this was 3 months ago. Now when I email them asking about this and my extension tubes that don't fit, they just ignore me. The only thing I have the power to do is to warn others to steer clear of this junk with horrible customer service. The Glidecam HD series is a far better product at less than half the price of this gimmick.

Comments about COMODO Orbit Handheld Stabilization Rig:

This would be a five star review, however, since I'm shooting anamorphic, it becomes difficult to stabilize many of the front heavy lenses I have. Thus, I have to add extra weights to the back in order to compensate. However, for normal lenses, this is a really fun to use and easy to use stablizer system. Relatively light weight and it gives you more control than motor based systems. It allows you to do long continuous shots without having to worry about battery life other than the camera. You can get a lot of good shots in small spaces and can imitate jib shots. The two handle system is also a major plus as it allows handoff shots.

Comments about COMODO Orbit Handheld Stabilization Rig:

I tried this at NAB in Las Vegas and it works better than anything in the range. I have used it with Blackmagic Pocket camera with a cage, a GH4, A 5D markiii, Canon C100 and the Sony 4k handycam. It is a must for any pocket camera, or similar size camera owner that wants to introduce camera movement without shakiness. It also let's me decide when and how I want to move myself without requiring any coordination with multiple crew members, etc. It's a little expensive, but after I tried all the other options at NAB, it made sense for me to buy and it is the most versatile. Although it works with heavier cameras, it works best with a GH4, sony 4k handycam or similar size. Highly recommended.
