I needed a good IR-only filter for my Sony digital camera that has the IR "Night-Shot" feature to shoot IR photos in daylight. Not wanting to invest a lot of money into this experiment I thought I'd try this filter. I cut one into a circle and mounted it into an old daylight filter holder. Sony cripples all their "Night-Shot" capable cameras by limiting the shutter speed on full-aperture only, so they can't be used in this mode in bright light situations. You need to stack this filter with another filter to cut down the IR levels in daylight for these cameras. A Wratten Green filter is perfect for this purpose, "Hoya G" being a good example of one, it's what I use. Then the camera's crippled "Night-Shot" shutter speeds and open-aperture are at the perfect range to take images from full sunlight to anything in between. When the IR light levels are too low then just remove the Wratten Green filter and you are all set to shoot from that light level all the way down to total darkness. I highly recommend this filter combo to any Sony camera owner that wants to use their camera's "Night-Shot" mode for creative IR photography under any and all lighting situations.

I wanted to try this filter with a digital camera, but this IR filter passes no visible light, only wavelengths above 900nm. It's well made, like all Lee filters, works well for B&W film photography. For digital, a better choice would be something like a Hoya RM72 which cuts at about 720nm

I bought this because it was cheap and to see how my Nikon D600 would work with it, and it did pretty well! If you buy this or other polyester filters you should get a folder for them. I just taped my on a lens hood and held it in front so no light could get in and it worked well but was not very functionally sound.

I purchased this to see ifI could make it work for my sigma 8-16 since you can't use a screw on filter for it. It kinda worked, but not good enough, so I cut it down to insert for my skylight 62mm to create a makeshift IR for my Super Tak 35/2.3 lens. It worked incredibly well on my KX IR.

Used a piece of this filter to IR modify my Nikon D70. Removed the in-built ir filter above the sensor and replaced it with this filter and a microscope slide to correct for depth. Works great and the AF didn't even need re-calibration!

I use this for infrared film as well as digital infrared photography. The effects of the filter are just what they should be and it works great. The filter itself doesn't fit so well in the 3x3 cokin gelatin holder and i need to use a darkbag over the sides when i use it to keep out reflections. The filter is very reflective and shiny and unless all light between the lens and filter is infrared there will be reflections.

                              Use with a 3" x 3" filter holder.

An inexpensive way to filter light and allow only wavelengths above 730 Nanometers (non-visible Infrared light) through to the sensor or film. Most glass filters that work on 77mm lens throats cost a big multiple of one of these gels and and maybe an appropriate holder (Cokin P?) with adapter ring.

So, if you want to try out IR photography without out spending the big bucks, or already have a holder for gels, this is a good choice.

Bought this filter because it was the cheapest way to experiment with IR with my Nikon D-80.
Already have 2 Nikon AF-2 filter holders.
                                      Works great.
I found using my D-80 in BW, RE red filter mode. works great for black and white IR photos, with this filter.
