The Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Canon is a wide-angle to telephoto zoom lens for Canon EF-mount APS-C cameras that features a versatile 35mm equivalent focal length of 25.6-480mm. This provides users with an extremely wide-angle and super telephoto lens in one convenient package. Also, it has an aperture range from f/3.5-6.3 to f/22-40 across the zoom range.

The 16-300mm is also capable of decent macro capabilities with a reproduction ratio of 1:2.9 when zoomed in to 300mm. This is due to a minimum focus distance of 15.3". Also, for excellent image quality, numerous special glass elements are used in the lens design. There are one Hybrid Aspherical element, three Molded-Glass elements, two Low Dispersion elements, one Extra Refractive Index element, and one Ultra-Extra Refractive Index element.

For general use, there is a Piezo Drive autofocus system which is powered by a fast and quiet standing-wave ultrasonic motor. This allows you to quickly achieve focus for sharp images. There is also Vibration Compensation which provides optical image stabilization that reduces camera shake at slow shutter speeds and longer focal lengths. And, included with the lens are a flower-shaped lens hood as well as front and rear lens caps.

Enhanced support for contrast-detection autofocus and when using Live View modes. Also, this lens has full-time manual focusing capabilities
Lens construction of 16 elements in 12 groups
Angle of view of 82°12' to 5°20'
Uses 67mm threaded filters

Moisture-resistant construction
High quality lens coatings minimize ghosting and flares in order to provide sharp, high contrast images
Aspherical elements work to correct spherical aberrations and limit distortion
Low dispersion elements reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in an image
XR and UXR elements help to decrease the size of the lens, enabling this zoom lens to remain compact

I use this lens for everything from portraits, candids, wildlife, still life… It is nice to not have to change the lens as this goes from wide to telephoto nicely. Of course there is some compromise in quality when a lens tries to do it all, but overall, I am very happy with the performance. I have gotten great candids of the kids, sharp, beautiful colors, and I have been able to capture the bees on the flowers very well. I used it to photograph an outdoor party that went from day to night and the pictures came out beautifully. I wold have given 5 stars, but in dim illumination, and with a bright sun directly behind the subject it sometimes takes a bit longer to focus, and I am used to the zoom ring being closer to the camera, and it is on the front of the lens now, but I will get used to that eventually. I am happy with the selection of this lens. I use it on my Canon T5i.

I ran through comparisons of this lens against the Canon EFS 18-135 and EF 75-300 using my CAnon 7D. The Canon lenses blew the Tamron away in sharpness and brightness. Even more problematic, the Tamron would not focus on a small object, even in Spot AF mode, but would focus instead on some larger object further behind. The only use I can think of for this lens is form small format viewing with no cropping. So the lens has been returned to B&H and they promptly issued a refund. I'll continue to use two cameras to cover the range when needed. Bummer!!

I decided to buy this as my main lens for traveling to Costa Rica so I wouldn't have to carry a lot backpacking. It took many great shots, some almost 3D. I haven't noticed the chromatic aberration noted by some. I will definitely continue carrying it as my default because of the wide zoom range.

To begin with...I was told that the lens would show up 3 to 4 days after ordering. With the weather back east, I wasn't too worried when it became about 5 days and the lens still wasn't here. We had some torrential downpours, so I was checking for the UPS truck, and by the end of Saturday I figured it wasn't coming. Couple of days later I noticed a box by our gate, and it was fairly well hidden. Turned out it was the B&H box with the lens inside. Took it into the house and put it in our sink...."it was sopping wet", with sow bugs coming from the seams that had separated because of the rain. THANKFULLY, because of the professional way B&H took care of their packaging, the lenses wasn't hurt one bit. Have not been able to use the lens as much as I have wanted, but so far it is working perfectly. I thank you very much.

I have and use Canon L lenses, and I love them. But this Tamron, for its range, low weight, and clarity amazes me. And the VC, which I'd read some worrying reviews of, is superbly quiet and fast. As a travel lens particularly, it's the best . This is my first non-Canon lens in 30 years, but if this typical of what Tamron is doing these days, it may not be my last. And, as always, B%H have been a pleasure to deal with.

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Canon:

The on line technical reviews of this lens were of little help (to me) in making my selection, but on the recommendation of a photographer friend I made my purchase as I found the 18-300mm telephoto range did everything I needed. When I got the lens and tried it, I was blown away by it's performance. Each image was tack sharp from 18 mm to 300mm. The lens performed flawlessly and the autofocus was so silent I questioned if it was even working. I've tried lots of lenses and this one is without a doubt the best I have tried. I get excellent wide angle coverage allowing me to cove and entire room and then shoot wildlife at an acceptably safe distance - THIS IS ONE VERY EXCELLENT LENS and meets ALL my expectations. From the travel photographer to the wildlife photographer, whether you are a pro or amateur this lens will impress you at a price point that makes owning it a must.

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Canon:

I purchased this lens to replace my kit lenses so I wouldn't have to switch between lenses. I did a lot of reading and watching reviews before making my decision on purchasing this lens. From all the comparisons and reviews this lens met what I was looking for. I haven't thoroughly used the lens due to time restraints.

                    A few pros:
                    - Quality of material is good.
                    - Size of the lens is perfect.
                    - Once on the camera, it looks like it belongs on the camera.
                    - Zoom range.
                    - images look great

                    Cons:
                    - Not consistent with the focusing (this could be due to my old camera T2i)
-Zoom range (not really the stated 300mm (480mm on crop frame)

Those are the only things that I have noticed and will update review once I get to use it little bit more. I already like the fact that I do not have to switch lenses when I take pictures.

The weight is perfect for me, the zoom ring is a perfect stiffness and the focusing ring is great especially when I need to make a quick focus and then let the auto focus kick in. The 300mm mark falls short when compared to my 55-250mm kit lens. Minor concern for me, because I already like the fact I do not have to switch lenses when taking pictures.

The Tamron 16-300 lens Gives me all I need for my on-the-go travel adventures. Yes there is some quality and distortion elements, most of which I can fix in lightroom, but for me the convenience of an all in one lens is worth the small negatives.

I recently purchased this lens after having rented it for few days. I took it on a couple trips and tried it out. We travel a lot and was looking for a good multipurpose lens. The photos with my Canon 60D looked very good, good detail pretty much throughout its range. I had some issues trying to capture some macro shots, but I didn't attempt extensively. At home I mounted my camera on a tripod and took some comparison shots with the lens and with my EF-S 17-55 and EF 70-200 at the same focal lengths. The results were very favorable. (I don't have a 300 mm equivalent.) This prompted me to purchase for my travels.

I just got this lens over the holidays and it lived up to my expectations. I am an enthusiast and not a professional but love taking photos. I used it indoors for family events then outdoors in Yellowstone. I was very impressed with the image quality given the range.

I shoot with 5 Canon L series lenses plus their 100mm macro. Got the Tamron 16-300mm for my wife who has taken up photography for use with the 7D. The Tamron shows great versatility, ease of use, very good VC, good autofocus and good image quality. Very nice compromise between the pro lenses and the plastic kit lenses.

Great multipurpose lens from family snapshots, portraits and even some birding. Just so handy not having to switch lenses. The lens can get in the way of the attached flash, so get a speed flash.
