The Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Canon is a wide-angle to telephoto zoom lens for Canon EF-mount APS-C cameras that features a versatile 35mm equivalent focal length of 25.6-480mm. This provides users with an extremely wide-angle and super telephoto lens in one convenient package. Also, it has an aperture range from f/3.5-6.3 to f/22-40 across the zoom range.

The 16-300mm is also capable of decent macro capabilities with a reproduction ratio of 1:2.9 when zoomed in to 300mm. This is due to a minimum focus distance of 15.3". Also, for excellent image quality, numerous special glass elements are used in the lens design. There are one Hybrid Aspherical element, three Molded-Glass elements, two Low Dispersion elements, one Extra Refractive Index element, and one Ultra-Extra Refractive Index element.

For general use, there is a Piezo Drive autofocus system which is powered by a fast and quiet standing-wave ultrasonic motor. This allows you to quickly achieve focus for sharp images. There is also Vibration Compensation which provides optical image stabilization that reduces camera shake at slow shutter speeds and longer focal lengths. And, included with the lens are a flower-shaped lens hood as well as front and rear lens caps.

Enhanced support for contrast-detection autofocus and when using Live View modes. Also, this lens has full-time manual focusing capabilities

I got this lens prior to an Alaska vacation. The focal range is as great as it gets for every situation I ran into. I took two photos in really dim light with my Canon 60D with far better than expected results. This lens can do macro photography quite well. There is some slight optical distortion close to 16mm or full wide-angle. Focusing is somewhat slower than my Canon lenses, but quick enough so that I never missed a single shot. Overall, I am well pleased with this lens and am solidly convinced that I made the right choice by getting it. With all of the great photos I took, I had to give it 5 stars.

In the name of full disclosure I've become very spoiled by prime and "L" lenses, but thought I'd give the latest and greatest superzoom a whirl for ease of getting around.
The pictures weren't bad, but didn't have that "professional" look that I've grown accustomed to.
Can't necessarily knock this lens for that and will likely serve most very well who can appreciate all that's gained from a one-lens solution.

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Canon:

I'm a novice photographer but I wanted to replace my 2 kit lenses from my Canon T1i. I initially looked into an 18-250 lens. Then I saw this one, and couldn't resist. The range in incredible and now I can use one lens instead of carrying 2 around in a bag. I've had it only a couple of weeks so I haven't had lot of experience with it yet, but so far the shots I've taken are fantastic. The rebate was also a nice bonus so I didn't wait in buying this lens.
The lens has a lock which is a great bonus.

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Canon:

The Tamron's new superzoom for crop body is very good lens.
It has 16-300 so there is no need to change lens for different view.
The quality of the photo itself is really good.
When the weather is sunny or even cloudy, this one can make great results.
The F value is 3.5 minimum so it is not great for dark inside photo shooting.
Still the best point about this one is that this is the only lens that you need to carry for traveling.
Overall, I will give 4 for this lens

          Tamron 16-300 f3.5 Lens

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Canon:

I am very pleased with this lens. It's a great tool for travelers. No need to carry more lens to shoot. This one does it all. It is quite sharp and light to carry and performs very well. The manual zoom works contrary to the Canon 18/200 which I was familiar with for a number of years, and which was smoother to use. It's just takes a little time to get used to the function of it. All in all and for the price, one can't go wrong. A good investment.

This lens worked great for the first few weeks: sharp images, vibrant colors. I did start to notice there was some unnecessary motion when focusing in on an object and now, increasingly, I keep getting an error message which says the lens cannot communicate with the camera. Very frustrating when shooting action shots. I'm starting to see this problem mentioned elsewhere and am wondering if this is getting to be a common occurence once the lens gets to be a few months old.

The PZD drive did not communicate with my camera, sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. Very soft dead center of most photos, maybe because of the lack of communication between lens and camera. I returned the lens to B&H and of course used the awesome free shipping return service they provided. IF YOUR NOT BUYING FROM B&H, YOUR WAISTING YOUR TIME AND MONEY......

I was looking for a lens to replace my canon 18-55mm and 55-250mm. I thought this would be a great lens, because I do a lot of live event coverage and need to be able to switch between wide angle and telephoto often. To my disappointment the image quality just wasn't there with this lens. I was very surprised and frustrated. What you are really paying for here is the convenience of the large range of focal lengths. This was my first Tamron lens and will probably be my last.

I use this lens for everything from portraits, candids, wildlife, still life… It is nice to not have to change the lens as this goes from wide to telephoto nicely. Of course there is some compromise in quality when a lens tries to do it all, but overall, I am very happy with the performance. I have gotten great candids of the kids, sharp, beautiful colors, and I have been able to capture the bees on the flowers very well. I used it to photograph an outdoor party that went from day to night and the pictures came out beautifully. I wold have given 5 stars, but in dim illumination, and with a bright sun directly behind the subject it sometimes takes a bit longer to focus, and I am used to the zoom ring being closer to the camera, and it is on the front of the lens now, but I will get used to that eventually. I am happy with the selection of this lens. I use it on my Canon T5i.

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Canon:

This is a beautiful all purpose lens. Great clarity at all focal lengths. Zoom adjustment ring is a bit stiff but not unmanageable.

I wanted a single lens for travel that would cover wide to telephoto. This lens does just that. So far I've been very happy with it. (It'd give it 5 stars, but I don't give out 5 stars unless something performs far above expectations.)

This lens is light and accurate, easy to use with all the focus ranges I want in a lens. I never have to change lenses, so it stays on my camera all the time. The price was right and I am delighted with it!

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Canon:

I bought this as a birthday present for myself and I am not disappointed. I saw this lens as a way to take 2 lenses out of my bag. I need a macro when I'm shooting flowers and I like a zoom and/or wide angle when I'm shooting landscapes. This covers both and does a beautiful job capturing close ups of flowers. Had to get use to the turn in the opposite direction from Canon lenses, but aside from that I am very pleased.

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Canon:

I ran through comparisons of this lens against the Canon EFS 18-135 and EF 75-300 using my CAnon 7D. The Canon lenses blew the Tamron away in sharpness and brightness. Even more problematic, the Tamron would not focus on a small object, even in Spot AF mode, but would focus instead on some larger object further behind. The only use I can think of for this lens is form small format viewing with no cropping. So the lens has been returned to B&H and they promptly issued a refund. I'll continue to use two cameras to cover the range when needed. Bummer!!
