The Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Canon is a wide-angle to telephoto zoom lens for Canon EF-mount APS-C cameras that features a versatile 35mm equivalent focal length of 25.6-480mm. This provides users with an extremely wide-angle and super telephoto lens in one convenient package. Also, it has an aperture range from f/3.5-6.3 to f/22-40 across the zoom range.

The 16-300mm is also capable of decent macro capabilities with a reproduction ratio of 1:2.9 when zoomed in to 300mm. This is due to a minimum focus distance of 15.3". Also, for excellent image quality, numerous special glass elements are used in the lens design. There are one Hybrid Aspherical element, three Molded-Glass elements, two Low Dispersion elements, one Extra Refractive Index element, and one Ultra-Extra Refractive Index element.

For general use, there is a Piezo Drive autofocus system which is powered by a fast and quiet standing-wave ultrasonic motor. This allows you to quickly achieve focus for sharp images. There is also Vibration Compensation which provides optical image stabilization that reduces camera shake at slow shutter speeds and longer focal lengths. And, included with the lens are a flower-shaped lens hood as well as front and rear lens caps.

Enhanced support for contrast-detection autofocus and when using Live View modes. Also, this lens has full-time manual focusing capabilities

I got this lens prior to an Alaska vacation. The focal range is as great as it gets for every situation I ran into. I took two photos in really dim light with my Canon 60D with far better than expected results. This lens can do macro photography quite well. There is some slight optical distortion close to 16mm or full wide-angle. Focusing is somewhat slower than my Canon lenses, but quick enough so that I never missed a single shot. Overall, I am well pleased with this lens and am solidly convinced that I made the right choice by getting it. With all of the great photos I took, I had to give it 5 stars.

I have been a Canon guy since the Ftb QL days, have had experience w/ numerous lens manufacturers from Canon to Vivitar to Sigma to Tamron (and others). I currently have or have access to a number of APS-C and FF bodies...and lenses, both black and grey, w/ & w/o red circles. This is the first product I have ever returned. My current walk-around, a 6 y/o "kit" 18-200, has such bad "creep" that I was seeking a replacement. Tamron 16-300 seemed to be the perfect choice, but using it proved otherwise. For starters (to quote another review) "This lens suffers from...the display shaking when VC starts and ends. The jump effect is strong and irritating [and]...makes the focus jump every time you press the Shutter Button [and]...renders the lens useless." In addition, the images taken w/ several different bodies were not very sharp, some were out of focus, and the colors were anything but vibrant. I took multiple identical shots with this lens and the (6 y/o)18-200 Canon, and the results were dramatic...with the Canon ($ more on B&H) being so much better that I will put up with the "creep" for now.

I intend to keep this lens on my DSLR as my standard for close-up to zoom. The 16mm is amazing and the 300mm suitable for general use when you don't want a heavy lens needing a tripod. The best money spent on a wondrfull basic lens.

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Canon:

This lens is used as my walk aroung lens. It is not meant to replace any of my other lenses, especially prime lenses, but us meant to replace my 18-270mm Tamron that replaced my 18-200mm Canon lens. Besides being an extremely sharp lens throughout the zoom range, I found this lens ergonomicly designed and easy to use.

I'd give this 5 stars for a budget lens. A very useful lens for an all in one lightweight lens. You can't compare it to a higher end Canon lens, but it is far better than I expected. The stabilization and auto focus work well and are very quiet during video recording.

So far I have used this lens to cover a band in an outdoor night performance, a 5K race, a horseshow of barrel racing, a car show, and some telework in my backyard with very small birds that required 50 to 100% crops.

So far I am absolutely delighted with this lens, its reach on my APS-C is amazing. So far I have not had to lock the lens as I have not experienced any lens creep at all. Looks good, works good, and it will see many hours on my camera.

This lens just made my life easier. It pretty much does it all while eliminating the need for constant lens changes. Picture quality is great with crisp edges throughout the entire range. Focus is fast and stabilizer does at least as well as the one on my Canon lens. I have already gotten a couple of nice macro shots and was impressed. Not surprisingly the best pictures for distant shots were taken at f 8. Living next to Acadia National Park it's nice to be able to take friends and family for hikes and only pack a single lens.

Here is another Tamron Super Lens which does more than the previous version. With having owned the other two before, the changes become obvious. As with the previous models, these convenient travel companions have their shortcomings. For getting an incredible zoom range of 25.6mm to 480mm for my Canon DSLR with 1.6 crop factor sensor, something has to suffer. Even todays latest computer assisted design technology can not overcome these gigantic optical criterias of such a large zoom range. Tamron has done a decent job to find a compromise as far as approaching the lens distortion and optical deviation over such a zoom range is concerned. Pincushion distortion goes into barrel distortion, corner sharpness at wide angle will not the same at the tele end and light fall off is surprisingly low, but the one thing which really suffered is Chromatic Aberration. At the tele end CA is so bad that the images need software correction no matter how small the picture size you would like to end up with.Bottom line: Positive:The lens is what I bought it for. A convenient optic for my travel camera. I have such a wide zoom range with incredible close focussing macro function, that I can cover pretty much everything without having to change lenses. I therefore have less problems of missing a good shot, keep my sensor clean and travel light and simple. Knowing the weak spots of this optic, I keep this in mind when framing my picture and also just work with a certain aperture range. Furthermore, this lens seems to be better sealed, which would improve the dust exposure, there is also no zoom creeping. All in all, an incredible accomplishment considering its still relative small size, manageable weight and reasonable price.Negative:What I do not like is the strong CA and that the zoom ring is now located on the front of the lens. If you do not use the lens sunshade and store it on the lens (mounted reverse), then it covers the zoom ring and makes it almost unaccessable when in wide angle position

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Canon:

This lens suffers from something called "The phenomenon of the display shaking when VC starts and ends". The jump effect is strong and irritating, Vibration Compensation or the rest of the mechanism makes the focus jump every time you press the Shutter Button. Most zoom lenses over 5x range raises a warning flag about this problem, but in this lens is alarming and it renders the lens useless. I bought one and I could not believe I got a bad one, so I went to the store in New York and tried 2 more Tamron 16-300 lenses; the second one had the same problem, and the third one the exact same thing. I tested 3 lenses, convinced that the problem was not just in one but in all of them, I returned the one I bought. The photos are clear, that's the reason for 1 star, but the Jumping Image phenomenon is frustrating and unacceptable.

I have used this lens about a week. I find it very good. The fact I can use it for this range makes it the perfect lens to take on vacation.

For an all in one lens, this one is quite sharp and a pleasure to use. I like photographing flowers and bugs - close up shots. I have gotten some unbelievable sharp shots. It is much better than expected. For those days when I don't want to carry multiple lenses, it is great.

Solid lens here with a great all-in-one range. Relatively compact; good for travel and events. Overall a good compromise if you can't afford the red line and want a step up from the kit lenses for the 70D.

Seems to be well built. Some have said that the way you have to focus (reverse from other lenses) is something to get use to, but I don't see a problem. I know I will use this lens a lot - and say good-bye to my canon 18-200.

Great all-in-one lens for the Photo Enthusiast.... Instead of having to carry several lenses, this one will take care of it all. It has a great focal length equiv. to 25mm-465mm length. With the Optical Stabilization it makes holding the lens steady very easy. Although not a Full Sensor, the APS-C/DX Sensor captures the light and images well. The Auto focus with PZD is smooth and quick. Overall a Great lens to have. If you have to pick a single lens, this would be the one....
OK, now some weak points; at 300mm length, you will get some image blur at the edges, some chromatic abberation at the 150-300 mm range, is it noticable, probably not to the general photo enthusiast. If you purchase this lens, you will not be disappointed.

I have the 18-270 lens for one of my Canon T3i cameras and wanted another one for my other Canon 5D. When I saw the slight difference in the range, I thought I'd give I a shot. It is super. Very versatile. Glad I went with the new one!!!
It's little more expensive than the 18-270, but I feel it is worth the price.
