The Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Nikon is a wide-angle to telephoto zoom lens for Nikon F-mount APS-C cameras that features a versatile 35mm equivalent focal length of 24-450mm. This provides users with an extremely wide-angle and super telephoto lens in one convenient package. Also, it has an aperture range from f/3.5-6.3 to f/22-40 across the zoom range.

The 16-300mm is also capable of decent macro capabilities with a reproduction ratio of 1:2.9 when zoomed in to 300mm. This is due to a minimum focus distance of 15.3". Also, for excellent image quality, numerous special glass elements are used in the lens design. There are one Hybrid Aspherical element, three Molded-Glass elements, two Low Dispersion elements, one Extra Refractive Index element, and one Ultra-Extra Refractive Index element.

For general use, there is a Piezo Drive autofocus system which is powered by a fast and quiet standing-wave ultrasonic motor. This allows you to quickly achieve focus for sharp images. There is also Vibration Compensation which provides optical image stabilization that reduces camera shake at slow shutter speeds and longer focal lengths. And, included with the lens are a flower-shaped lens hood as well as front and rear lens caps.

Enhanced support for contrast-detection autofocus and when using Live View modes. Also, this lens has full-time manual focusing capabilities

I love to cover literary readings, street festivals and political protests. Now, instead of carrying around two lens, I'm down to one that does it all - the 16-300 from Tamron. It works just fine with my Nikon d800. It's like they were made for each other. Taking a photos of patrons at an art gallery and/or showing protesters in front of a public building, I'm very pleased with my purchase of the Tamron's 16-300. The photos I've included in this review were taken at a street festival. One was set at 16mm and the other at its furthest range - 300mm.

    Not very good at 300mm

Didn't really think the performance was that great at 300mm. Its only reasonably sharp at f/11+ which makes it only really usable when its perfectly sunny out. 16-200 works much better.

I was looking for a lens that replaced the 18-55 and 70-200 that came with my Nikon D5000 and avoid constant lens switching. This lens fits the bill with an even wider range. I used it for general photography from travel to sports.

If you have to get out of the door in a flash just grab your camera with this lens on, a 16-300mm,f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD Macro, you can shoot almost every things. Colors are so saturate (of course you have to remember to set the Vivid option in your camera), even at the longest end 300mm the sharpness still very good. Mounted it on my D3200,it made a world different(compared to the 300mm of the 70-300mm!)The VC feature is the big plus, I highly recommend this lens to the Senior Shooters or who doesn't bother lugging the tripod/extra gears!. The lens looking a little bit flimsy & odd when it was extended but who cares as long as it was functioning and light to carry. I'm happy to order this lens at B&H.

16-300mm covers 90% of what I shoot. Like other superzooms it's weakest at the long end, but it's still sharp enough to make very good prints up to 8.5x11 which is the largest that I print. It's light weight and compact considering its range. It focuses quickly and quietly. It has no zoom lens creep, and it's well made. Flare is well controlled and it shows good contrast.

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Nikon:

After I purchased this lens, I made some test shots to compare it with my Nikon kit lenses (18-55, 55-200, both AF/VR). The Tamron 16-300 lens is almost identical in image quality and anto-focus speed and accuracy with my Nikon kit lenses. It is even better in some test shots (in IQ and auto-focus). As I didn't test with small aperture, I didn't notice vignetting or chromatic aberration. Two noticeable shortcomings are: 1) distortion; 2) focus breathing. Many reviews have commented on the first one, but I had seen no review about the second one until I noticed it in my testing. However, both shortcomings are understandable for a lens with such a zoom range. As long as you stay away from straight lines, distortion is hardly noticeable. As for focus breathing, an easy fix is cropping (but I think focus breathing may have some adverse effect on Bokeh). On the whole, I find it a very satisfactory (cost-effective, lightweight and high-quality), versatile walk-around lens.

Just got this lens. Replaced an 8 year old Tamron 70-300mm with this 16-300mm.

I put the 16-300mm to the test this weekend, taking photos of my very active granddaughter, animals, sunsets, low light shots , spider webs, flowers and landscapes.

The 16-300mm was fast , responsive and easy to use. I really enjoyed using this lens and I am very pleased with the results.

Highly recommend this lens to anyone who wants a excellent, fast tele-zoom.

Works beautifully with my Nikon D5300! Fantastic range and then add maco abiliy, can't be beaten.
I used it in the Smoky Mountains this weekend and it it produced great pictures as advertised.
                I highly recommend this lens.

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Nikon:

This lens doesn't quite do it all, however, it comes so close! I recently went to Vietnam and Cambodia via motorcycle. Since space and weight was a premium, I began looking for a zoom lens that could also shoot close up. I also wanted an F-stop below 5 or 6 for more versatility in low light. This is it. I took more than 4000 pics in the month I was there and am very happy with the results. Though the zoom at max is not the most crisp, it is key for subjects in third world countries as many do not necessarily want their pictures taken.
Overall, 4 out of five stars. This lens really shines in the mid range of its capabilities, 80-200, but can get that long shot when you need it (sunny, too).

Didn't really think the performance was that great at 300mm. Its only reasonably sharp at f/11+ which makes it only really usable when its perfectly sunny out. 16-200 works much better.

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Nikon:

I had an 18 to 200 and a 70 to 300 lens. This lens, 16 to 300, does everything the other two lenses did, is more compact, and lighter for me to carry. I do a good deal of outdoor, nature photography and find the photos sharp, but since I've only had an opportunity to use this lens two times since purchase, I'm still getting use to it. Yes, I would definitely recommend it to others.
