The Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Nikon is a wide-angle to telephoto zoom lens for Nikon F-mount APS-C cameras that features a versatile 35mm equivalent focal length of 24-450mm. This provides users with an extremely wide-angle and super telephoto lens in one convenient package. Also, it has an aperture range from f/3.5-6.3 to f/22-40 across the zoom range.

The 16-300mm is also capable of decent macro capabilities with a reproduction ratio of 1:2.9 when zoomed in to 300mm. This is due to a minimum focus distance of 15.3". Also, for excellent image quality, numerous special glass elements are used in the lens design. There are one Hybrid Aspherical element, three Molded-Glass elements, two Low Dispersion elements, one Extra Refractive Index element, and one Ultra-Extra Refractive Index element.

For general use, there is a Piezo Drive autofocus system which is powered by a fast and quiet standing-wave ultrasonic motor. This allows you to quickly achieve focus for sharp images. There is also Vibration Compensation which provides optical image stabilization that reduces camera shake at slow shutter speeds and longer focal lengths. And, included with the lens are a flower-shaped lens hood as well as front and rear lens caps.

Enhanced support for contrast-detection autofocus and when using Live View modes. Also, this lens has full-time manual focusing capabilities
Lens construction of 16 elements in 12 groups
Angle of view of 82°12' to 5°20'
Uses 67mm threaded filters

High quality lens coatings minimize ghosting and flares in order to provide sharp, high contrast images

I love to cover literary readings, street festivals and political protests. Now, instead of carrying around two lens, I'm down to one that does it all - the 16-300 from Tamron. It works just fine with my Nikon d800. It's like they were made for each other. Taking a photos of patrons at an art gallery and/or showing protesters in front of a public building, I'm very pleased with my purchase of the Tamron's 16-300. The photos I've included in this review were taken at a street festival. One was set at 16mm and the other at its furthest range - 300mm.

At first I truly loved this lens, I like the freedom to just take the pictures and not worry about which lens was on. But my point and shoot takes sharper images. When cropped the images are very soft. I think I will be selling this lens. There are also darker corners on full zoom.

Takes super crisp images even in lower light spots. I use it to take photos during musical performances and pics are great! Results are as good as or better than my Nikor lens.

Just came back from a trip to Korea. Took only this one lens. The range is sufficient for every possible picture, including of people and scenery. The lens is not too heavy to carry given the zoom range.

After reading a few reviews of this lens, I had high hopes for it's use as a travel lens. The lens feels good and seems well built. Unfortunately, the autofocus performance was very inconsistent. Even in bright sunny weather, it often fails to find focus, especially in the telephoto range. And it's also softer than my Nikon 70-300. Perhaps I got a lemon. A much more minor quibble, the image stabilization is a bit noisy.

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Nikon:

I purchased this lens to replace my Nikkor 18-200mm lens for my Nikon D7000 camera. I wanted the extra 100mm of zoom range. I considered the Nikkor 18-300 mm lens but it was too expensive for my budget. I thought that the Tamron 16-300 would not be quite as sharp as my current Nikkor 18-200 but that with the extra 100mm of zoom the trade off would be ok. However, since I have been using the Tamron 16-300, I have been very pleasantly surprised by it's sharpness. It is easily as sharp as my Nikkor 18-200 if not a tad more so. So I am very happy with this lens and would readily recommend it.

I am very pleased with the quality of the photos and the ability to go from macro to telephoto without having to change lenses. I have used a similar Nikon 70-300mm lens and I like the utility and quality of this Tamron over the Nikon.

I purchased this lens as a walkaround lens instead of carrying 4 or 5 Nikkors (my wife's lenses). While I'm not a seasoned photographer, I can't see any quality differences between the two brands when used at comparable stop/speed/iso. My effort now needs to be on using the D5300 to its fullest and seeing if there is an artist in me...(we can only hope). Thanks Tamron for a tool to explore with.

I was looking for a lens that replaced the 18-55 and 70-200 that came with my Nikon D5000 and avoid constant lens switching. This lens fits the bill with an even wider range. I used it for general photography from travel to sports.

Comments about Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD MACRO Lens for Nikon:

If you have to get out of the door in a flash just grab your camera with this lens on, a 16-300mm,f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD Macro, you can shoot almost every things. Colors are so saturate (of course you have to remember to set the Vivid option in your camera), even at the longest end 300mm the sharpness still very good. Mounted it on my D3200,it made a world different(compared to the 300mm of the 70-300mm!)The VC feature is the big plus, I highly recommend this lens to the Senior Shooters or who doesn't bother lugging the tripod/extra gears!. The lens looking a little bit flimsy & odd when it was extended but who cares as long as it was functioning and light to carry. I'm happy to order this lens at B&H.

16-300mm covers 90% of what I shoot. Like other superzooms it's weakest at the long end, but it's still sharp enough to make very good prints up to 8.5x11 which is the largest that I print. It's light weight and compact considering its range. It focuses quickly and quietly. It has no zoom lens creep, and it's well made. Flare is well controlled and it shows good contrast.

This lens performs as expected and meets my needs at an affordable price. I'd buy again and recommend it to friends. I have more enthusiasm for photography than skill, but this covers little league games, soccer matches, and birding. Can't ask for more.
