The black Nikon COOLPIX P340 Digital Camera is a pocketable, Wi-Fi enabled point-and-shoot equipped with a 12.2MP 1/1.7" CMOS image sensor. Its 5x Zoom-NIKKOR lens has a 35mm equivalent focal range of 24-120mm, proving good wide-angle to telephoto coverage. A fast maximum aperture of f/1.8, combined with the large CMOS image sensor, lets you capture clear, detailed images in lower-light situations. With up to 10fps continuous shooting and 1080p video recording, the P340 is ready to capture all of life's moments.

View and frame your shots on the large 3.0-inch TFT LCD screen with 921k-dot resolution, or use an optional HDMI cable for video playback on your HDTV. For those looking for more creative control over their images, RAW file recording and manual exposure controls are available. Sharing your images is easy thanks to the camera's built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. Simply transfer your photos to compatible smartphones or mobile devices and share them instantly with family and friends.

Low-Light Performance
Don't let your flash interrupt intimate moments or live performances. With a large 1/1.7" CMOS sensor and maximum f/1.8 aperture, the P340 lets you capture natural looking, true-to-life photos in low-light environments. When lighting conditions are too dim, the P340 has a built-in flash ready for you.
24-120mm f/1.8 NIKKOR Lens
The 5x Zoom-NIKKOR lens has a focal length of 5.1-25.5mm, equivalent to 24-120mm in 35mm format, and a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture. It utilizes Lens-shift Vibration Reduction technology to help overcome the effects of camera shake for crisper-looking shots. The lens features a seven-blade iris diaphragm for sharp in-focus points and pleasing background blur in the out-of-focus regions of your images.
3.0" 921k-Dot LCD Monitor
The large 3.0-inch TFT LCD screen features an anti-reflective coating and a resolution of 921k pixels. The screen features six-level brightness adjustment and offers 100% frame coverage both vertically and horizontally in shooting and playback modes.
Built-in Wi-Fi
With built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, the P340 lets you transfer your photos to your smartphone or mobile device for instant sharing. You can also use your mobile device as a remote control - great for capturing self portraits or group shots with you in them.
Full Manual Control and RAW Still Images
Choose from Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority or Manual mode for a greater level of creative control than full Auto can offer. Capture RAW (NRW) still photos for a high level of creative control in the editing stage.
Full HD 1080p Videos
Record Full HD 1080p video with stereo sound, and then connect to your HDTV with an optional HDMI cable for large-screen viewing. HDMI output can be set to 480p, 720p, 1080i, or Auto.
Continuous Shooting Options
Capture up to 10 full-resolution (12MP) shots at 10fps. Options for continuous shooting include Best Shot Selector, Continuous H, Continuous H 60, Continuous H 120, Continuous L, Interval Timer, Multi-shot 16, and Pre-shooting cache
In-Camera Image Editing
Options available include Crop, D-Lighting, Filter Effects, Glamour Retouch, RAW (NRW) Processing, Quick retouch, Skin softening, and Small Picture.

In addition to basic data importing and browsing, ViewNX 2 incorporates various frequently used adjust menus and tools, such as resize, brightness control, crop, straighten, auto red-eye correction and auto lateral color aberration correction. Smoother cooperation with Nikon's exclusive image storage and sharing site, Nikon Image Space, is also made possible. I took this on a trip and it performed very well in a variety of conditions - color, clarity, focus range/width, etc. I had a lot of positive feedback on the photos, with most people wanting to know the camera model and where to buy it. It even did well shooting from inside a bus while it was moving - after confirming focus on the desired subject outside the bus, namely architecture. I wish the battery lasted longer and that Nikon made a cable-free battery charger. As I was able to plug in the camera with battery at night, and have a spare battery, I was able to shoot all day. I did later purchase an extra Nikon MH-65 Lithium Ion Battery Charger for the EN-EL12 battery so I could keep shooting while the other battery charges.

It is not an action camera but it a super performer in low light and the wide angle allowed me to include all I wanted in each shot. It is also surprisingly flattering for portraits - although I usually do a bit of post processing for imperfections. It is so lightweight I now keep it in my purse to take advantage of opportunities. I held on to my heavy P7000 bridge camera until this one came out. I have not had it long enough to master macro or the extra manual features. I bought the camera and then took a trip the next day and was never disappointed except for slow focus in certain shots. The view screen accurately portrayed capture such that I often only took one shot.

The 1.8 lens with flash tends to overexpose macro subjects and tends to focus the most slowly in that mode. I took one photo inside the darkened bus at night -focusing on nothing because I could not see. The flash lit up the place and a friend said I almost blinded her. But the result came out great - a surprised subject evenly lit.

Inside the Lincoln memorial museum I filled the screen with stone-etched narratives and no matter the size of type I could read every word, even the letting that was almost perpendicular to the main narratives.

I do not expect a full DSLR in a tiny package but this one has come the closest to doing that. The 120mm zoom is satisfactory for my travel and impromptu opportunities although I rarely use it in order to keep the 1.8f. As a female with large hands and long fingers, I was delighted to find that the grip and layout of this camera made it very manageable. The VR works great for my wobbly grip.

Lastly, the Pearstone pouch supplied by B&H for this camera was perfect. It was just big enough to cover and cushion the camera, while allowing space in an outer zipper for an extra battery and memory card. Most pouches add too much bulk. I often forgot I was wearing the camera and pouch around my neck.

It's a pocket camera, light weight enough......takes nice sharp pictures, but in my use, very good for indoor pictures, a wide lens ability to satisfy my needs. built good and easy to use. Also for my perspective........ No lens cap to worry about losing. Ideal size to carry traveling going to the county fair or local firemen bazaars.

Amazing!

Comments about Nikon COOLPIX P340 Digital Camera (Black):

This little Nikon is feature-packed, lightweight, and easy to use. I own a DSLR but when I am traveling light or would rather capture the action while being a part of it, rather than simply behind the camera watching the action, this is now my go-to.

Comments about Nikon COOLPIX P340 Digital Camera (Black):

This was the second enthusiast camera I tried to buy. It is far better than the LF1 I had before. The lens is super crisp and it shoots good low-light photos. The colors are a bit washed out in the camera's default JPEG settings, however, this can easily be corrected in post processing or if you are shooting in RAW. I'm very pleased with this little camera.

Comments about Nikon COOLPIX P340 Digital Camera (Black):

Great little compact with superb features. Powers up fast and good shot to shot speed. Great grip for one handed pic taking. Menu navigation is easy and camera has a wheel on top to scroll through options quickly. Picture preview loads fast and is needed since preview just after taking a pic is very short. Nice in camera photo effects (Painting is a good one). Really light weight with battery inserted. Buy and carry two additonal batteries if you shoot over 100 pics every outing (I do). Battery life is unbelievably short, and I took no video's. Unbelievably Short! Even with the short battery life I will keep this camera.

Comments about Nikon COOLPIX P340 Digital Camera (Black):

I was looking for an easy to use point and shoot to replace an older Olympus 10MP for my wife. The no fuss fully auto mode is truly easy to use with little lag time. I love the pop up manual flash rather then the menu driven options. The display is bright and crisp. The 1.8mm Nikon lens is sharp in any lighting, and the shirt pocket size is easy to carry, and comfortable in the hand. See additional pros above. No real negatives.

Comments about Nikon COOLPIX P340 Digital Camera (Black):

I have not had a lot time to use this camera, but so far it seems to be a quality camera. The pictures are clear and sharp even at low shutter speeds. The on/off and picture preview buttons are small and could be difficult to use for someone with large fingers. The other controls are easy to use.
The RAW format is NRW and I have not been able to open them with Adobe Lightroom 4, which is an annoyance to me since I manage/edit all of other pictures with Lightoom.

If you never use a point and shoot camera with exposure compensation this camera may not be for you. If you wanted a small camera that CAN take a photo of the moon (not high magnification) this camera may be for you. The Vibration reduction is great. This camera is for someone that wants to optimize images in the field and spend less time 'fixing' images later. White Balance can be tweaked. It still is a point in shoot with all the issues of a small sensor. It will not work miricles but since you can control exposure over exposed images can be a thing of the past.
