The black Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera is a versatile and advanced mirrorless camera featuring a 24.3MP APS-C-sized Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and BIONZ X image processor to produce high-resolution still images and full HD movies with marked low-light quality and sensitivity to ISO 25600. Beyond notable imaging traits, the image processor also lends itself to continuous shooting up to 11 fps and an intelligent Fast Hybrid AF system that uses both phase- and contrast-detection methods to quickly and accurately acquire focus.

For live view monitoring, image playback, and menu navigation, both a large rear monitor and detailed electronic viewfinder are available. The 3.0" 921k-dot XtraFine LCD screen features a tilting design to facilitate easier use from both high and low angles and also incorporates WhiteMagic technology for easier viewing in bright conditions. The 0.39" 1,440k-dot Tru-Finder OLED EVF offers 100% frame coverage and a refined optical design to provide a natural viewing perspective and magnification. The body design of the a6000 also houses a configurable user interface, built around several customizable buttons and two control dials, for efficient and intuitive access to frequently used camera settings. Additionally, a Multi Interface shoe is available for attaching external flashes, continuous lights, or microphones.

Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, with support for NFC-enabled devices, is also integrated into the a6000 to support remote camera control and image sharing to linked mobile devices.

24.3MP Exmor APS HD CMOS Sensor and BIONZ X Image Processor
The 24.3MP APS-C-sized Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and BIONZ X image processor work together to produce high resolution, well-detailed imagery with minimal noise and notable low-light quality and sensitivity to ISO 25600. The sensor utilizes a gapless on-chip lens design, which fills the gaps between neighboring pixels with optimized lenses that match the angle of incidence to increase light gathering ability and produce edge-to-edge sharpness and quality. The processor also contributes to providing a wealth of speed throughout the camera system, including Fast Hybrid AF, a top continuous shooting rate of 11 fps, and full HD 1080i/p video recording in multiple frame rates.
Fast Hybrid AF System
The Fast Hybrid AF system utilizes both a 179-point phase-detection system and 25-point contrast-detection system to achieve precise focus in as little as 0.06 sec. Utilizing a Spatial Object Detection algorithm, this fast focusing system first employs the phase-detection AF points to quickly bring the subject into focus and then uses the contrast-detection AF points, with wide AF coverage, to fine-tune the sharpness for ensured accuracy. Beyond supporting single shot modes, this system also provides AF tracking when shooting up to 11 fps in continuous high mode and functions seamlessly when recording full HD movies.

For further refinement, a series of distinct AF modes can be selected from depending on the subject. Eye AF is a detail-oriented focusing function that can prioritize a subject's pupil and dedicate focusing performance on that for sharply-rendered portraits; Lock-on AF is a dedicated focusing method for use with moving subjects and adjusts the target frame size as the subject moves throughout the image frame; AF area settings allow you to prioritize specific regions within the frame for increased accuracy; and AF-A (Automatic AF), AF-S (Single-shot AF), AF-C (Continuous AF), DMF (Direct Manual Focus), and Manual Focus modes can also be chosen.
Full HD Video Recording
Full HD 1080i/p video recording is supported at both 60 and 24 fps frame rates to produce high resolution movies with a smooth, cinematic look. Full HD videos are recorded using the high-quality AVCHD codec, while 1440 x 1080 and 640 x 480 formats are also supported in the Internet-friendly MP4 format.

Benefitting advanced video applications, clean HDMI output is available for recording uncompressed video via an optional external recorder. Additionally, a Zebra function is available, in 70 to 100+ levels, during recording for easier detection of exposure clipping to prevent overexposure.
Body Design
Revolving around a compact and lightweight profile, the a6000 incorporates both an electronic viewfinder and a large rear LCD monitor. The Tru-Finder 0.39" 1,440k-dot OLED EVF features a refined optical system that integrates four double-sided aspherical elements to provide 100% frame coverage and a wide 33° viewing angle for clear edge-to-edge viewing. The electronic viewfinder's design offers a true live view image, which is able to simulate the appearance of the finalized image prior to shooting and also avails focusing aids, such as MF Assist and the Peaking function. The 3.0" 921k-dot rear Xtra Fine monitor is a larger alternative, suitable for making accurate compositions, reviewing imagery, and navigating the menu system. It features a tilting design that can tilt upward approximately 90° or downward 45° to benefit working from high and low angles. Additionally, WhiteMagic technology works to increase the overall brightness of the screen to better support use in bright or sunlit conditions.

Complementing the overall handling of the a6000 is a customizable user interface that includes an Fn function button and seven other buttons that can be adjusted depending upon user preferences and assigned to one of 47 different functions. Furthermore, two top dials offer an intuitive means for selecting crucial camera settings in a deft manner. A built-in pop-up flash, featuring a guide number of 19.7' at ISO 100, is available for working in difficult lighting conditions and a Multi Interface Shoe is also available for attaching additional on-camera accessories, such as flashes, video lights, and microphones.
Built-In Wi-Fi Connectivity
Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity enables the a6000 to instantly share imagery to mobile devices for direct sharing online to social networking, via email, and to cloud storage sites. NFC (Near Field Communication) is also supported, which allows for one-touch connection between the camera and compatible mobile devices; no complex set-up is required. Once connected, the linked mobile device can also display a live view image on its screen and remotely control the camera's shutter.

Additionally, PlayMemories Camera Apps are also supported via the built-in Wi-Fi connection, and allow you to personalize the camera's features depending on specific shooting styles. Apps are available to suit creating portraits, detailed close-ups, sports, time lapse, motion shot, and other specific types of imagery.
Other Camera Features
  • The Sony E-mount affords compatibility with an extensive number of lenses and lens adapters.
  • An advanced 1200-zone evaluative exposure metering sensor delivers consistent and accurate results using multi-segment, center-weighted, or spot metering modes.
  • Auto Object Framing is an intelligent shooting mode that can automatically analyze the scene and subjects within it and determine an aesthetically-pleasing composition. The subsequent imagery will be cropped according to subject matter, resulting in a well-balanced composition that utilizes Face Detection and Tracking Focus to ensure high image quality and sharpness.
  • Clear Image Zoom can be used to magnify the center of scenes by 2x to effectively extend the reach of any focal length lens. This digital zoom technology uses an intelligent interpolation process to minimize the amount of image degradation in order to produce realistic, high-quality images.
  • Picture Effect modes allow you to apply creative settings and emphasize certain facets of individual images for a richer, more aesthetic picture quality. Posterization (Color/B&W), Pop Color, Retro Photo, Partial Color (R/G/B/Y), High Contrast Monochrome, Toy Camera, Soft High-Key, Soft Focus, HDR Painting, Rich-Tone Monochrome, Miniature, Watercolor, and Illustration modes are available.
  • The Photo Creativity feature provides quick access to Picture Effects as well as dedicated controls for adjusting Background Defocus, Brightness, Color, and Vividness. Additionally, these effects can be combined for nearly limitless adjustment options.
  • Superior Auto mode is an intelligent automated setting that can quickly identify the current shooting environment and adjust crucial camera settings to deliver optimized results. This mode also utilizes Auto HDR and Hand-held Twilight modes, which employ image compositing techniques to better handle difficult lighting conditions.
  • Anti-Motion Blur automatically corrects for subject movement in order to deliver clean, sharp imagery in low-light conditions. This is accomplished by recording six sequential frames and compositing portions of each image to ensure overall sharpness.
  • Hand-held Twilight Mode automatically composites details from six sequentially-recorded images in order to attain higher overall image sharpness when working in low-light conditions.
  • Multi Frame NR records consecutive images at a reduced ISO sensitivity and then composites them into a single image to realize higher effective sensitivity with minimal image noise.
  • Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO) works to improve images featuring backlit subjects or scenes with high contrast where details can be lost in the shadows or highlights. This mode can be controlled automatically or fine-tuned using five settings.
  • Auto HDR automatically records three sequential frames of an image and composites them into a single frame to realize greater shadow and highlight detail with an extended range of mid-tones.
  • Creative Style settings provide control over how the camera processes images based on six different predetermined styles: Standard, Vivid, Portrait, Landscape, Sunset, and B&W. Within these settings, contrast, saturation, and sharpness can also be adjusted depending on personal preference.
  • In-camera creation of 4K slide shows is possible for rich playback to ultra high definition televisions. An HDMI port is incorporated into the camera's design, too, to enable direct connection to HDTVs.
  • TRILUMINOS Color support is afforded by the a6000 to produce rich, natural colors when imagery is viewed on a TRILUMINOS Display.
  • Convenient USB charging allows you to charge the included lithium-ion battery in-camera via USB connection from either an AC outlet or PC source.

I've had the Sony a6000 for about 2 weeks, before this, I used a NEX-6 for about a year. Big difference will be the menu and I think it's easier to use. There's a lot of menu but you'll mostly use only a few things all the time. I upgraded from NEX-6 to a6000 because of the 24 mg sensor vs 16mg. I like to crop crop out the parts of the picture that don't tell the story. This is giving me less grain than the Nex-6 when I crop, but there is still grain in darker areas using iso 3200. But I can manage with Topaz plug-in. I am amazed that I can use Auto iso and that is adjustable, you can change the range of iso you want to shoot at which is really great. But, if you can use a tripod and keep iso low, it helps a lot. Focusing is supposed to be faster but I still see it struggle in low light. Still not as fast as a full size DSLR, but you don't need to be fast with landscapes. There are a lot of features I still have to explore. Using a 18-105 G lens and that is a great lens, but better than the 16-50mm kit, but it is bigger. On the street, the kit lens would be less conspicuous. The lens does take some getting use to. The zoom is slower, I need two twists instead of one to get from 18 to 105mm. I'm ready to order an adapter for canon lenses.

First off when I went to the support website everytime I clicked on download it would return to the same page, So I don't have the software or firmware updrades, and the manuel was a short version instruction manuel of 48 pages. I found the Sony English website had a larger 209 page manuel un available on Sony USA.

I like the camera, but it didn't come with a shoe cover that I thought was tacky. The complexity of options, and lack of in depth descriptions of their utilization has me still experimenting rather than shooting productively.

In short, great camera (so far) and poor support!

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Silver):

I have used Canon cameras for as long as I can remember. Due to some joint pain (and simple convenience), I needed a light weight GOOD camera. After reading loads of reviews, I chose the Sony a6000 and LOVE it! The silver and black body has a classic look and the body is small, light and easy to take with me everywhere. Now, instead of wishing I had my camera, I DO have my camera with me almost all the time!

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

I use the a6000 for nature shots, for portraits, sports photography and for vacations.
It is well equipped for all. It is light weight, it is fast, and it is programmable (and has programmes).
I love the camera, hands down.

One negative thing about the camera: It will not take a fool days outing on one battery. But thats life. It will also - fairly easy - overheat.

One negative thing - in connection to the camera and gear line: I bought a Zeis 16-70 mm lens to go with it. The quality is great, but I do wish that a 18-200 had been available (like my old Nikon). I know that such a lens sacrifices quality for variaty, - I do miss being able to do tele-close-ups without having to change lenses back and forth all the time.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

I replaced my Canon 7d MKII with this little beast and I have absolutely no regrets. Smaller, lighter, cheaper with extra features such as zebras, better wifi, and a tilt screen just to name a few. The continuous autofocus system on each camera is quite impressive and robust so I say "Why not go for the lighter option!" Of course it all depends on how rugged of a rig you need. For me, the a6000 fits the bill since I'm not out in the jungle or on the basketball court. I'm just chasing my kids around.

    Couple of criticisms:

-I wish it came with a hotshoe cover so those connection points don't get damaged. I must order one separately.
-Battery life is not great but just carry an extra battery or two.

I purchased this camera after a 5 month review of my own. It works just as
advertised. This camera really shines if you will learn to operate in the full manual mode. I did use this on a recent wedding and also used my sony 16mm 2.8 e mount lens and the video was exceptional as well as my nikon 50mm 1.8
I also mounted my sony ea50 18-200mm and it works quite well for day or night time shots. My only complaint is that is does not have audio in.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

I heard many reports about the fast AF system, and how this was replacing some pro's DSLR. So, since I shoot a lot of sports and this was inexpensive relative to a DSLR with similar characteristics, I decided to try it. There is no way a professional sports photog would use this. The AF system is no where near as fast as my Nikon. The 11 FPS is awesome but if the subject is running the AF system can't keep up - so the 11 FPS would be worthless. The lock-on focus is nice, but you have to use the wide area focus area and it has issues distinguishing between your subject and others. The renders lock-on essentially worthless unless you subject is very well separated from other objects. Otherwise, this camera is nice and many features.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

I bought the A6000 to be used as a camera for sports, primarily skiing, but love it as a general purpose camera for kids, birds, etc. Another reason I bought it is that I wanted a relatively inexpensive, high quality camera I can take into riskier situations (backountry skiing) without worrying about breakage. Since I also own an A7 I share lenses with the A6000. Thus far I find myself using the Sony FE 70-200 G lens the most but I've also got the Zeiss 35mm, 50mm and 24-70mm lenses. I'm very pleased with the image quality even with cropping. The frame rate and autofocus speed on this camera is incredible...you won't be dissappointed. Sony really seems to be on a great run with all their mirrorless products. Some reviews knock the EVF resolution, but I have not found that to be an issue at all, in fact, I was very pleased with the clarity.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

Heard so much about this camera.

I had the original fuji x100 (12 mp). Had to upgrade to bigger file size because I'm doing some wall prints. Instead of lugging around my 5D mk3 around, this camera fit the bill in: file size, image quality, quick handling and small form factor.

Matter of fact, I'm so happy with this camera's performance, I'm thinking of using it as a 2nd camera for video shooting. The video features on this surpasses the 5D MK3, I think, notably the auto focus during video. Because of its light weight I'm using it as my "stedicam" camera.

        Some concerns.
It is a consumer camera so I don't think its too durable. Its nicely made but not solid enough. But if it was more solid, it would be heavier… which would negate its "pocketable" charm.

Also, when you use a quick release plate on this tiny bottom area, it seems that there isn't enough surface area on the camera to securely attach the QR plate. Here's the big design flaw: So when you tighten the quick release on this camera, the rubber pad starts to grip the LCD screen to a point where you can't pop it out. I'm more concerned with putting upward pressure on the LCD screen like that. I pop the screen out then I tighten the QR plate. They should've made the frame of the LCD so so flush with the bottom of the camera.

But once again, this camera was not designed to be used on pro camera support. But more of pros are using this camera. This says a lot about this camera.

Good job Sony! Just upgrade few things like more durable body, weather sealing, and better means of coupling the camera… I would pay more money for these features.

i'm a professional who started with minolta 30 years ago, went to nikon through the f-5 film days and then to canon to the mark series and then to nikon through the d4. sony is the next generation and the future to me. mirrorless is pretty fantastic.

there is a learning curve in using this little, tiny, itty bitty shrimp of a camera and it's also tricky remembering all the options in powerful tools. it works perfectly when you are sitting and moving at a normal pace, if you are chasing a news event or reacting to different fast moving situations, you better be well versed with the tools.

it's just around the corner when this sony system will be the standard and everyone else will have to come up to them.

the focusing on this camera is stinking amazing. and all the fabulous features in the a7s and on are all available in this baby beast!

it's a good intro to the world of sony.

I use this with sigma 30mm art. Fantastic combination. If you're a beginner this camera will make you love photography. As kinda advanced enthusiast I am amazed of the performance. Minimal Lightroom adjustments. Contrast, colors for jepg are excellent. RAW rocks. The only frustration is that Sony limits Sigma lenses to use wide area AF points all across the sensor. Come on Sony! and don't forget to buy extra batteries.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

This is a fantastic camera that has fast autofocus, a sensor that makes great images, and a very clear electronic viewfinder that is the closest I have seen to a real optical viewfinder (I also shoot film with a Leica rangefinder).

But it has a terrible usability bug that hits specially hard those that prefer to use this great EVF: the sensor that detects whether you are looking through the viewfinder resets the timer that makes the camera go to power save mode. The problem is that this sensor is also tripped by your body when you are carrying the camera in a strap, so the camera stays on and on, with the EVF consuming power (and it consumes more power than the LCD).

This translates into dismal battery life (a couple hours from full charge, even if you aren't shooting much), unless you make turning the camera off everytime you are not actively shooting into an habit, as I did. This also means that you do not want the kit with the power zoom lens, as the power zoom has slower startup time and forgets the focal length it was when you turned it off.

My recommendation is to do as I did: get the body, a good prime lens and, if you want a zoom, but a black SEL1855 (the non-power zoom version) off eBay. And turn the camera off frequently. Or buy several extra batteries to last you through the day...

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

I wanted a lighter weight camera for travel abroad which takes sharp photos and is versatile. I am very happy with my purchase. The only drawback is that Sony has a poor information booklet. I relied on a video from You Tube which described how to use the camera. I like the idea of not having a huge camera around my neck as I toured. The smaller camera puts people at ease and is unobtrusive. So far, the photos have been very good and will get better as I learn how to use more of the functions available.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Silver):

Where to start? The a6000 is a tiny wonder, and should be priced at $1,000 for what you get. There really is nothing that it cannot do. Do yourself a favor and go on YouTube and type in Sony a6000 reviews. Gary Fong is the first place I'd go, but also check out what Sports Illustrated photographer Patrick Murphy Racey, who has used the Sony a6000 to shoot college football, has to say--he sold his Nikon gear and switched to Sony. The image quality from it's 24MP sensor is staggeringly good, even up to ISO 3200, the camera is lightning fast and a joy to use. You may like it so much that you'll leave your DSLR at home...I've sold mine. The shutter sound too is wonderful and to me and sounds very similar to an old film Leica camera (M6)--it's quiet and pleasant to the ear. There is so much more to be said but the bottom line is...BUY IT!

Bought this camera for shooting sports and I am not disappointed at all. It picks up my subjects and follows them across the court. The tracking with the 50mm and the 20mm are consistent in several of the gyms I have had to work in. Using the the auto ISO allows me to capture what I need. Shooting in RAW and then tuning in Aperture gets it done! I also like the size and the rapid fire capability. I do not miss what I am photographing. Wish it held two cards.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

I have both a Sony A7 and A6000 and I use the A6000 as a second body to mount my old Nikon film lenses with a Metabone adapter. The A7 is more forgiving of zooms, the A6000 really performs well with a great zoom. But both cameras give wonderful results with old primes. The Sony sensors are capable of great detail and sharpness.
I love the manual focusing options and the focus peaking, but the Zebra function is far less useful than Olympus's highlighting feature. I would love it if the A6000 would use a wireless remote - it is so much better than wired ones. And as yet I have not found a way to press a custom button to turn on a feature (focus peaking) and then turn it off by removing pressure on the button. Could use a longer life battery and a faster response time. Oh and stop over compressing the RAW files, they are not as good as Nikon.
