The Scott Kelby Mitros+ TTL Flash and Odin TCU TTL Flash Trigger Kit for Nikon from Phottix features the Mitros+ TTL flash for Nikon, the Odin TCU TTL flash trigger, 10" flash softbox with strap, a 36" Double-Small white shoot-through umbrella, Varos II multi-function flash shoe umbrella holder, a 6.6 pound Stay-Put Sandbag II, a 28" gear bag, and a 6.5' 5-section compact light stand. This gives you a wide variety of tools and accessories for advanced off-camera flash photography.

The basis of this kit is the Mitros+ flash, which has a guide number of 190' at ISO 100 and 105mm and a built-in Odin transmitter/receiver. This works well with the Odin TCU flash trigger for remote flash control and firing. They work within 4 channels and 3 groups within a range of 328' with a 2.4 GHz frequency. These are specific to Nikon cameras with i-TTL.

The 10" softbox and strap lets you diffuse the light of your shoe-mount flash unit. It even has movable inner diffusers for more control and a top vent for bouncing light. There is also a Varos II Multi-Function umbrella holder for mounting a flash to a stand and utilizing the included 36" Double-Small folding white shoot-through umbrella. Additionally, there is a 5-section 6.5' light stand, a 28" gear bag, and a 6.6 pound Stay-Put II sandbag.

Radio transmission is compatible with Odin and Strato II wireless triggering systems up to 328' away
Wireless functionality via optical pulses in 4 channels and 3 groups with a range of up to 52.5' indoors
Ratio modes from 1:8 to 1:1 and 8:1 are available for firing multiple flash units

Comments about Phottix Scott Kelby Mitros+ TTL Flash and Odin TCU TTL Flash Trigger Kit for Nikon:

I am a film shooter, and this kit is a steal of a price, but be warned. The Name of the product consists of the word TTL, but this flash only works with iTTL not the older TTL of the Nikon FM3a.
Now for most people that is not a problem at all, but for me it means this is only a manual flash, and in that case not worth the price (I don't think I'll be getting a F6 any time soon).
I am in the process of returning the flash as buying a manual flash to use off camera, as well as an older flash that can do TTL (not iTTL).
Besides a rivit that came loose from the umbrella right away, the whole kit seems to be very well put together, I was impressed with the quality.
However this kit isn't one for me as I have to use a sync cable as I can't get the Odin to sync.

Comments about Phottix Scott Kelby Mitros+ TTL Flash and Odin TCU TTL Flash Trigger Kit for Nikon:

The product, when it worked, worked as advertised. Unfortunately, it stopped firing properly after 3 months and the only option I was given by Phottix was an RMA where I had to pay to ship it back. I almost wish it had flaked out earlier so I could have returned it with B&H, but they refused.

Comments about Phottix Scott Kelby Mitros+ TTL Flash and Odin TCU TTL Flash Trigger Kit for Nikon:

I am very pleased with this product. I have only had it for a couple of weeks at this point, but I would buy it again. I really like that I can test trigger the flash from the remote as well as trigger a modeling light from the remote. This is a great feature when you're not quite sure where the light is going to strike your subject. I also have another flash that I can setup to be triggered from this system which is great. It givers me the ability to have a multi flash setup. The only thing that I was a little disappointed with is the umbrella.

Comments about Phottix Scott Kelby Mitros+ TTL Flash and Odin TCU TTL Flash Trigger Kit for Nikon:

The flash is near perfect for the price, but it does have some issues that could have been easily fixed (maybe still will be in a firmware).... Same goes for the Odin.

The goods that come with this package are pretty useless unless you're just a hobbiest.

Comments about Phottix Scott Kelby Mitros+ TTL Flash and Odin TCU TTL Flash Trigger Kit for Nikon:

I bought 2 of these kits and I gotta say the value is GREAT! The built quality of every item is definitely good. I ran tests and also used them in the field. Although a great value, I would like to alert everyone about some of the things that I ran into.

1- Be aware of the adaptor that comes with the Mitros+ to fit the Nikon cable when using external battery packs. If your cable is from either Nissin or Bolt it will NOT FIT the adaptor. You need either the Quantum or the Impact version of the Nikon cable.

2- When using a Mitros+ to fire another remote Mitros+, the remote Mitros+ will fire the TTL pre-flash even if the Mitros+ transmitter flash is setting the remote flash to fire at a manual power. This does not happen if I use the Odin transmitter to fire the remote flashes in manual instead of using the Mitros+ as the transmitter. This does drain batteries faster, makes recycle time longer, and its pretty annoying!

3- For some reason, there is barely any difference in terms of flash output from firing at full VS 1/2 power. I tested this on both Mitros+ and they both show the same issue. I would like other users to test it and let me know if they notice the same thing. just put the camera on a tripod, take a picture at full and then at 1/2 power and tell me if you see a stop difference in light.

4- Maybe its me, but I cant turn off the blinking red beam of light that the mitros+ shoots every couple seconds when used as a remote flash. Its not a deal breaker but videographers and other photographers might hate you for it. I set my 2 flashes off camera in a church, and it does become distracting.

5- Even if you turn of the beeping sound from navigating though the menus, if you press an hold a button (for example the arrow button to change power from 1/1 to 1/128), the flash will start beeping! ANNOYING specially in a church!

6- The recycle times are a little disappointing to me. Well I got to admit, I have been using the Nissin MG8000 which to me has the best power output, recycle, consistency, never overheats, and the interface is the easiest and most practical I have used! I have owned SB800, SB700 and SB900, and I would say this flash is somewhere between the SB800 and SB900

7- In opposition to the Phottix StratoII, both the Mitros+ nor the Odin transmitters will work to fire off camera flashes on my Fuji X100s. Actually, if you use the Mitros+ on the Fuji it will fire FULL POWER all the time UNLESS you have it set to optical transmitter mode where then you can control the power on the Mitros+ when u use it on camera.

I did think of returning the flashes to B&H BUT… there is no doubt the Mitros+ has the potential to become my new favorite. Most of the bad things I mentioned can be fixed with firmware updates, but for that to happen Phottix HAS TO LISTEN TO ITS CUSTOMERS and I gotta say, their tech support is not the best. I have emailed them last week and I just received an email saying that my case was closed due to lack of activity.

I would love to give a 5star to this flash, but I cant do it YET!

This kit is a great buy. The flash and Odin TCU are worth $ alone. The other stuff in the kit is well-made, and very worthwhile. And the case it all comes in is very high-quality.
