The Thunderbolt Docking Station from StarTech gives you a single connection point to your home or office workstation, for a flexible setup. The Docking Station adds Thunderbolt and HDMI video outputs, 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet, a USB 3.0 hub, and 3.5 mm audio ports to your Thunderbolt-equipped laptop.

Single Connection
The Thunderbolt Docking Station reduces the hassle of connecting a typical laptop workstation by leaving your entire peripheral set connected with one cable. Through a single connection to your laptop, such as MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, or Ultrabook), you can easily connect and disconnect from the Thunderbolt Docking Station.
Flexible Setup
With a small footprint and included stand, the Thunderbolt Docking Station allows for a tidy and customizable work space. The included stand allows you to set the Thunderbolt Docking Station horizontally or vertically. Connect more of your USB peripherals through the integrated 3-port USB 3.0 controller. External USB 3.0 hard drives benefit from the smooth response and faster data transfer rates. Older USB peripherals are also supported with USB 2.0/1.1 backwards compatibility.
Formidable Speed
Increase your overall system performance with a dedicated controller for onboard I/O handling, which frees up system resources. With data transfer rates up to 10 Gbps, Thunderbolt technology simultaneously supports a high-resolution display and high-performance data devices through a single interface. You can even daisy-chain up to 6 devices (Thunderbolt 1 and 2 compatible) for maximum connectivity.
Multiple Monitors
Expand your screen real estate and increase productivity, using the integrated monitor outputs. With support for resolutions up to 1920 x 1080 (HDMI) and 2560 x 1440 (Thunderbolt / Mini DisplayPort), the dock provides several options to add external HD displays.

When using a single display, the dock lets you connect one HDMI, DisplayPort, or Thunderbolt monitor. The Thunderbolt interface on the dock is backwards compatible with Mini DisplayPort; when connected to a DisplayPort monitor, only a single display can be added, as HDMI will be disabled. For dual-display configurations, you can connect one HDMI monitor and one Thunderbolt monitor simultaneously.

Comments about StarTech Thunderbolt Docking Station:

Purchased 3 of the docks but to my dismay, I found that I could not use the docks as it is only compatible with OSX Mountain Lion upwards and all my Macs use OSX Lion. Disappointed. Must read the small print before purchasing!

Comments about StarTech Thunderbolt Docking Station:

This dock seems well built and functional. It looks like the port layout is almost identical to the Elgato dock that Apple sells in-store for $ (I wouldn't be surprised if they are the same reference design, just OEM'ed by different companies). Can't say much about how durable it is or whether it does everything it should because I returned it almost immediately for one simple reason: I bought this dock primarily to drive two external monitors off one Thunderbolt port, to extend my desktop (not mirror it). The dock is advertised to be able to do this, but *only* if at least one of the monitors is a genuine TBolt monitor (monitor has a TBolt input, rather than DVI or VGA or anything else). This was not clear (to me) from the marketing spiel. Probably because I did not yet understand that TBolt != MiniDP... Anyway, I have two older LCD monitors that have only VGA and DVI inputs, and there is no way this dock can drive both of those monitors simultaneously. At least not by itself. For the record, I asked the ubergeeks at the Apple Store about the Elgato dock, and it has the same limitation, exactly. So, this StarTech dock may in fact be best-in-class, but best-in-class doesn't meet my needs.

Comments about StarTech Thunderbolt Docking Station:

Using this docking station with a Mid 2014 Macbook Pro Retina 15" and so far it's been working well. I dock it at home on a single screen (DVI adapter @ 1920x1200) DVI output), an ethernet connection, and a USB KVM, and the laptop is well behaved before and after docking.

Comments about StarTech Thunderbolt Docking Station:

The attached paper says, you must download the newest driver before connecting docking station. I dutifully did what I was told + discovered that Mac OS 10.9.3 was too new for their driver upon trying to install. Removing it + re-starting didn't help. After hours of futzing around + calling tech help, I finally had to re-install my OS. After loosing lots of data that had been scanned + shredded, I discovered that the recent files vanished after being opened in Time Machine. Fortunately I had a cloud BU, but having done work subsequent, had to try to remember what work was missing. Needless to say this was a nightmare that could have EASILY been prevented if StarTech had any consideration for their customers. The thing is that it woud have worked fine if I had never tried to download any driver. They could have had this on their website, but didn't.

In addition, Star Tech says it has 2 thunderbolt ports. But in reality, you get only ONE usable port because the other port connects to your laptop.

I use the product with a Macbook pro (late 2011.)

StarTech did not cut any corners here.

The form and finish of the product is excellent and it worked right out of the box. It looks great on the desk and the vertical stand is perfect.

The product packaging was sensible and the included TB cable is a real plus.
