Comments about Sony HT-XT1 170W Soundbar:

A distinct improvement over the TV speakers. Surprisingly - and counter to some other reviewers comments - there was a real inprovement in bass response. The mushy dialogue that these aged ears had trouble with is now much clearer. Some other reviewers found that performance with Bluetooth was not good. I found that the BT connection was dependable and that Pandora or iTunes, using my iPhone 5S or iPad, gives excellent results.
Set up of the SB, both with the TV and with BT was super simple. This device is recommended.

Comments about Sony HT-XT1 170W Soundbar:

The Sony soundbar is a big improvement from the weak, side projected sound that comes out of big screens. The dialogue is much clearer and easier to understand and would definitely help people who are hearing impaired. Don't expect too much from this unit; it's a halfway point between the lousy tv speakers and a big sounding surround system. The price is good for this quality of a unit and it's easy to set up. The only weak point that I've found is the remote. It's a skinny black stick with flush black buttons; it's very hard to see and is not at all intuitive. I put white labels on all the buttons so it wouldn't take 5 minutes to figure it out every time I wanted to use it.

This Sony soundbar is perfect for the bedroom. Does not take up much space. My 40 inch Samsung is on top of the soundbar. Without this soundbar I had to raise the volume to 35 - 45 to listen to movies on Netflix. Now I don't. Much better sound than the TV speakers.

Comments about Sony HT-XT1 170W Soundbar:

We use what was once a small bedroom as our TV room. The entertainment center containing a 32" Samsung HDTV, a Samsung BR Player/Media Streamer, and Comcast Cable Receiver sit in a recessed area of the room. The TV sound was less than satisfactory since the TV speakers are on its sides and the entertainment center seemed to absorb the sound. My wife has experienced some hearing loss and she needed the sound at a level that was uncomfortable for me. This sound bar solved the problem.

Like others, after doing some research I chose the HT-XT1. It arrived well-packaged and a day earlier than expected. Just the sort of service I've learned to expect from B&H. The sound bar is sturdy, and well engineered. I used the sound bar as the base for the TV. I used the optical audio out connection (cable included) from my TV to the sound bar, and the HDMI from the BR Player/Streamer to the Sound bar HDMI In connector. My cable receiver is not HDMI (ARC) compatible so this is not the optimal setup, but its very good as is.

The sound is more than enough to fill our small room. It is a 2.1 system so you don't really experience full surround sound and audiophiles would be critical. But on some BR movies, or streaming movies or music, the sound bar can rattle your teeth. The remote is easy to understand and use, though small and compact. My wife really doesn't use it at all, only adjusting the volume with the cable remote. Best of all, we can sit in the same room and watch TV together without fighting over the volume control.

Comments about Sony HT-XT1 170W Soundbar:

The IR sensor on our 4 year old Sony TV died making any remote useless. Our cable box remote works fine for channel selection through the cable box, but controlling the TV volume from a remote was impossible. Only the buttons on the TV itself could change it……what a hassle! I hated sending an otherwise perfectly good TV to the bone yard so I looked into setting up some kind of soundbar system that included a remote. The Sony HT-XT1 Soundbar (better referred to as a "soundbase") has some competition out there (Boise, LG, Samsung), but after researching and listening to those devises, I concluded the Sony was the best. The HT-XT1 is slim and is designed to fit under the base stand of the TV. But since my TV fits into a custom built cabinet/shelf system, there wasn't quite enough room to place it under the TV. But it fits nicely on a shelf just above the TV. It sounds great in that location, as I'm sure it does under the TV. Our problem of controlling the TV volume from a remote is solved. I was also able to program my universal cable box remote to work with the HT-XT1.The HT-XT1 vastly improves the sound quality over the TV speakers. It clearly can not compete with an all out theater/surround sound system with sub woofers, but it very nicely bridges the gap between that and the TV speakers. There are plenty of ways to tweak the sound to match our tastes. This can all be done from the included RM-ANU207 remote. My only minor complaint would be that the remote is a little small and difficult to see and use in a darkened room that most of us like when viewing our TV's. But since I can also use my universal remote, this is not an issue. This product is well built, attractive and beefy. The price is quite fair for what you get. If you are not ready to invest in an all out theater/surround sound system, but want enjoy greatly improved sound from you TV, this is the answer.

I installed the Sony Soundbar with relative ease. It fit perfectly under my 32 TV. It took a little effort to understand its functionality (e.g., Movies, Music, Voice, etc.) but when I did the sound was great. It is even better with Video Streaming. The sound was "concert hall" like. Great price, great sound! I recommend it.
