Questions? Ask our experts:

The Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum Tripod is a three-section support that replaces the 055XPROB tripod. It has a load capacity of 19.8 lb and extends from 3.5" to 66.9". Its legs are secured by the Quick Power Locks. These updated flip locks increase the tripod's rigidity by 50%, and its load capacity by 4.4 lb over its predecessor.

A redesigned center column has a "one finger" operation, and includes an Easy Link attachment for attaching accessories such as an LED light or a reflector. The center column can be positioned horizontally, allowing for low-angle and macro photography. The upper disc where a tripod head is mounted has been redesigned as well, and now has a bull's eye bubble level that rotates 360° so you can locate it where you can see it. This allows you to level your camera on both the horizontal and vertical planes.

Im an architectural Photographer and I needed a stable tripod that wouldn't move at all during my shoots as i need to layer so many images together for a final image. I paired this tripod with the new Xpro 3 way geared head for a fantastic combination. The grips on the legs also make it very convenient when carrying the tripod around.

Best part- On my old manfrotto the legs would always slide up and into themselves even after tightening the leg clamps. These new leg clamps will not allow the legs to change length at any time which is awesome. very pleased with my purchase.

A little heavy but I knew that. The legs are very thick and I chose not to go with the carbon fiber because its weight does not effect me very much.

When I lost the height knob for my 3021 (yeah, that's how long I've been a Manfrotto - Bogen guy) I started looking for a replacement. I knew I was over paying, but Manfrotto was once worth a little more. Not so with this tri-pod.

The first thing you notice is that there's only one screw to attach the head. In the instructions they suggest using Manfrotto heads, but attaching a Manfrotto ball head proved less than satisfactory. With only one screw, it's way too easy to unscrew the head while rotating the head.

The next problem is the advertised ability to place the column at a 90º angle. Sorry, it falls below 90º even with only minor extensions, and the holding knob just isn't strong enough to correct that. Not a deal breaker, just one more indicator that quality is lacking.

Then, the level fell out. I'm sure I can glue it back in, but with equipment this expensive it's ridiculous to have this many problems.

Finally, I called Manfrotto's support desk to give them the opportunity to defend themselves (or instruct me). Two calls, both unanswered, and several weeks later, no return call even though I left a detailed message and a phone number.

I've since switched to Benro and I can tell you, they ARE what Manfrotto once was as far as quality, and have something Manfrotto never had – great prices!

Comments about Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum Tripod:

Have not had it very long, but it looks to be well constructed. It is heavy, but I expected that since the weight is in the specs. Tall, so I will probably never use it fully extended or with the center column extended. This tripod, along with a SV BH5X head, holds my gripped 6D and Sigma 150-600mm C lens rock steady. Very nice piece of equipment.

Great balance between regidity and weight

Comments about Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum Tripod:

I purchased the Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Tripod as a replacement for an old tripod. What drew me to this tripod was the build, the flexibility of leg adjustments, and the ability to hold my DSLR low to the ground.

When I took it for a day at a local state park, I found that the rigidity was more than enough to meet my needs. No matter what I mounted on the tripod. Yet, the weight was comfortable even after five hours of hiking with significant elevation changes.

Flexibility and performance make this a winner.

Comments about Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum Tripod:

I was looking to replace my Manfrotto 55XPro that had faithfully served me the last 8 years but was getting long in the tooth. I first bought a carbon fiber version as I thought "nice and light...easy on the old bones" BUT it was awful, legs didn't drop by themselves and the clasps drew blood when they pinched so I returned and went with this unit. Perfect... legs drop by themselves and that helps keep me from having to lift the tripod and alter the leg height by hand which was causing me to handle the clasps in a way that was getting me pinched. On an average day I move the tripod 150 times altering height about half of those moves so it was very important for me to get a quick setup (I shoot RE) also I need a full 6 feet of height so this fit the bill and with just 3 sections to shorten setup times I can't say enough about how this suits my workflow.

Comments about Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum Tripod:

Use this for landscapes/studio. I've paired legs with 055 Mag Ball Head RC4 Quick Release for an extra sturdy combo. I was a little worried as when I first opened and extended the legs, they wouldn't remain tight when clamped. However, they provide a tightner tool (which attaches to the leg) to tighten down any clamps that need it. So make a mental note that tripod will probably will need adjusting first off.

I'm 6'-2" tall. I extend the legs all the way, mount my gripped DSLR and my eyes are right on the eye piece. I do not extend the center column at all. This tripod is perfect for us taller folks. No more bending over, that was originally my selling point.

-90 Degree column is cool feature.
        -Legs and clamps are solid.
        -Sleek design.
        Happy with my purchase.

Comments about Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum Tripod:

This tripod came as part of Manfrotto 502HD kit. It becomes my standard video tripod after months of researching. The MT055XPRO3 stands out as my choice because of its extra height which I found to be very important (I mostly took concert and band competition videos). This tripod is big and heavy compared to general photo tripods but is lighter than other video tripods I looked. The only surprise is that it does not come with a tripod bag and you have to spend extra $ to $ for it. I think it is kind of understandable because the size of tripod heads varies a lot and you will need a bag to handle both of them.B&H shipped the tripod with a huge box and with excellent protection.

Comments about Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum Tripod:

I watched a couple of reviews on YouTube before buying that tripod. It seemed to be just the right tripod for my needs and with a fair price. It seems tough made (I guess it really is), but there are some flaws, if you are expecting to use it for video. The biggest problem, I think, is that the middle section which allows you to lift your tripod's head a bit more than the actual tripod makes it impossible to balance the tripod's head to level it, so you must level by its legs only. Adding to that, there is no built-in light for the level bubble, so it may cause you much trouble if there is no light around and/or especially if you need the shoot fast. I used to work with ''Sachtler'' tripods which you can always easily level the head fast and easy so I regret my Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum Tripod a little...

I bought this tripod to use with the 502HD head. It's not a super light combo which perfect since I plan to load it up with gear. When used with my Rhino slider I get 0 tipping from the slider when the camera is at the ends. ALSO, the quick releases for the legs are awesome. I've used a lot of professional tripod kits and for the price I am very impressed with this piece.

I had used carbon fiber tripods before. While they are lighter, this one is more stable for photographing in windy situations. This tripod is very stable and easy to use. That said, because it is so heavy, you may not want to haul it very far (such as a hike) unless you have a good way to transport it.

I purchased this tripod for my 128R fluid head to use for DSLR video work on lower budget productions. Very pleased! My only gripe about it that it is little troublesome extending the legs to get low to the ground - pinched my fingers on a couple occasions. All in all, good value and the build is sturdy without being bulky.

Comments about Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum Tripod:

The tripod is very sturdy and easy to use. The kit also includes the 3 way head and the bag, all in good quality. Although the aluminum is slightly heavier than the carbon fiber, it's just 0.5kg difference. Would recommend this to anyone who does not need to carry it to travel every day.

Comments about Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum Tripod:

Very good quality tripod. Great height without extension and is tall when extended. Perfect for me at 5' 11". When I need to use the extension (I know purists say its a no no) it is solid, I use the timer and I get the shot I need. The extension flips so you get many different perspectives of your subject which is very hand in landscape photography. It also lets you get low to the ground. The only downside is weight, I use it with a Kirk ball head so this wont go trekking with me. I knew that going into it so that doesn't take anything away from the performance of this solid tripod. Compared to the other ones in this category it is worth the extra $$

This is my first good tripod, and I could not be happier. Extremely sturdy, adjusts very quickly, and can be put away in a quick manner. I use it for automotive photography and I don't think it will be letting me down at all. Definitely a pro-level tripod.
