The GoPro Battery Eliminator with USB from Switronix is designed to provide a secure way of powering a HERO3 or HERO3+ action camera from an external USB power source. The GoPro's form factor may be a major part of the camera's appeal, but it limits the effective battery life to what an internal battery can provide. Where the camera is readily accessible, it is simple enough to keep spare GoPro batteries on hand and simply swap out as needed. However, especially as a growing number of professional filmmakers are drawn to the GoPro's versatility, the camera is increasingly finding itself placed in spots that are difficult to access for a quick battery change. The GoPro Battery Eliminator employs a similar concept to a DC coupler that you may be familiar with from camcorders and DSLRs, using a coupler plate that mimics the original battery, but with a 10' power cord that terminates in a USB type A male power connector.

Since the HERO3 and HERO3+ cameras support USB charging, you can use the Battery Eliminator to power the camera from nearly any 5VDC USB source: a laptop computer, portable powering station, car USB port, or even an AC wall adapter. In addition, using optional transformers, it is possible to adapt the USB to power from 12VDC sources such as car batteries or professional video battery systems.

If a housing is used, the Battery Eliminator requires the Skeleton Housing. It is also possible to use the Underwater Housing with the Skeleton back door. Using the Underwater Housing will still provide splash protection from the front, however the camera will not be fully watertight because of the opening at the back for the USB cable.

Comments about Switronix GoPro Battery Eliminator with USB:

After connecting Battery Eliminator for the first time, everything was good. Second time, when I actually wanted to use it for video capturing, my GoPro came up and, after few seconds shut down. Now, my GoPro is completely "eliminated" and it does not power up anymore even with the original GoPro battery.
Voltage across the Battery Eliminator contacts was measure - it is 5V. Battery is rated at 3.7V, fully charged is around 4.2V. Contacted the vendor; they claim to have a regulator in their Eliminator that should drop the voltage down. They said even if that was not the case, it should work. Clearly not. Having overvoltage of 20% is not specified in any electronic manual.
DO NOT BUY this product unless you want your GoPro Hero investment to be destroyed!

Comments about Switronix GoPro Battery Eliminator with USB:

I bought this product and the first one I received did not work. I was going to send it back or ask for a refund. But after speaking with the associate I changed my mind and excepted a replacement. Arrive within two days.

I could not wait to try although still a skeptic after installing it and plug it in two days later still working. this will help me tremendously. I video while Kayak Fishing and i hate to have to worry about changing the battery. With this unit no longer.

The reason I did not give it a five star was because its not water proof. Other than that I love it so far.

Comments about Switronix GoPro Battery Eliminator with USB:

Great for anyone looking to do time lapse photography. This is the only safe efficient way to get the job done. Leaving a battery plugged into power for extended periods of time overheats the camera and damages the life of the battery. This eliminates that, thus allowing you to not babe to use any batteries while doing long hours of time lapse or video.
