The silver Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera is a versatile and advanced mirrorless camera featuring a 24.3MP APS-C-sized Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and BIONZ X image processor to produce high-resolution still images and full HD movies with marked low-light quality and sensitivity to ISO 25600. Beyond notable imaging traits, the image processor also lends itself to continuous shooting up to 11 fps and an intelligent Fast Hybrid AF system that uses both phase- and contrast-detection methods to quickly and accurately acquire focus.

For live view monitoring, image playback, and menu navigation, both a large rear monitor and detailed electronic viewfinder are available. The 3.0" 921k-dot XtraFine LCD screen features a tilting design to facilitate easier use from both high and low angles and also incorporates WhiteMagic technology for easier viewing in bright conditions. The 0.39" 1,440k-dot Tru-Finder OLED EVF offers 100% frame coverage and a refined optical design to provide a natural viewing perspective and magnification. The body design of the a6000 also houses a configurable user interface, built around several customizable buttons and two control dials, for efficient and intuitive access to frequently used camera settings. Additionally, a Multi Interface shoe is available for attaching external flashes, continuous lights, or microphones.

Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, with support for NFC-enabled devices, is also integrated into the a6000 to support remote camera control and image sharing to linked mobile devices.

Included with the camera body is a Sony E-mount 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Retractable Zoom Lens, which provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 24-75mm. This range of perspectives is well-suited to everyday shooting and is further enhanced through the inclusion of Optical SteadyShot image stabilization for minimizing the appearance of camera shake. Power Zoom technology allows for electronic control over the zoom position and the inclusion of one extra-low dispersion element and four aspherical elements helps to reduce chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range as well as contribute to high overall sharpness.

24.3MP Exmor APS HD CMOS Sensor and BIONZ X Image Processor
The 24.3MP APS-C-sized Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor and BIONZ X image processor work together to produce high resolution, well-detailed imagery with minimal noise and notable low-light quality and sensitivity to ISO 25600. The sensor utilizes a gapless on-chip lens design, which fills the gaps between neighboring pixels with optimized lenses that match the angle of incidence to increase light gathering ability and produce edge-to-edge sharpness and quality. The processor also contributes to providing a wealth of speed throughout the camera system, including Fast Hybrid AF, a top continuous shooting rate of 11 fps, and full HD 1080i/p video recording in multiple frame rates.
Fast Hybrid AF System
The Fast Hybrid AF system utilizes both a 179-point phase-detection system and 25-point contrast-detection system to achieve precise focus in as little as 0.06 sec. Utilizing a Spatial Object Detection algorithm, this fast focusing system first employs the phase-detection AF points to quickly bring the subject into focus and then uses the contrast-detection AF points, with wide AF coverage, to fine-tune the sharpness for ensured accuracy. Beyond supporting single shot modes, this system also provides AF tracking when shooting up to 11 fps in continuous high mode and functions seamlessly when recording full HD movies.

For further refinement, a series of distinct AF modes can be selected from depending on the subject. Eye AF is a detail-oriented focusing function that can prioritize a subject's pupil and dedicate focusing performance on that for sharply-rendered portraits; Lock-on AF is a dedicated focusing method for use with moving subjects and adjusts the target frame size as the subject moves throughout the image frame; AF area settings allow you to prioritize specific regions within the frame for increased accuracy; and AF-A (Automatic AF), AF-S (Single-shot AF), AF-C (Continuous AF), DMF (Direct Manual Focus), and Manual Focus modes can also be chosen.
Full HD Video Recording
Full HD 1080i/p video recording is supported at both 60 and 24 fps frame rates to produce high resolution movies with a smooth, cinematic look. Full HD videos are recorded using the high-quality AVCHD codec, while 1440 x 1080 and 640 x 480 formats are also supported in the Internet-friendly MP4 format.

Benefitting advanced video applications, clean HDMI output is available for recording uncompressed video via an optional external recorder. Additionally, a Zebra function is available, in 70 to 100+ levels, during recording for easier detection of exposure clipping to prevent overexposure.
Body Design
Revolving around a compact and lightweight profile, the a6000 incorporates both an electronic viewfinder and a large rear LCD monitor. The Tru-Finder 0.39" 1,440k-dot OLED EVF features a refined optical system that integrates four double-sided aspherical elements to provide 100% frame coverage and a wide 33° viewing angle for clear edge-to-edge viewing. The electronic viewfinder's design offers a true live view image, which is able to simulate the appearance of the finalized image prior to shooting and also avails focusing aids, such as MF Assist and the Peaking function. The 3.0" 921k-dot rear Xtra Fine monitor is a larger alternative, suitable for making accurate compositions, reviewing imagery, and navigating the menu system. It features a tilting design that can tilt upward approximately 90° or downward 45° to benefit working from high and low angles. Additionally, WhiteMagic technology works to increase the overall brightness of the screen to better support use in bright or sunlit conditions.

Complementing the overall handling of the a6000 is a customizable user interface that includes an Fn function button and seven other buttons that can be adjusted depending upon user preferences and assigned to one of 47 different functions. Furthermore, two top dials offer an intuitive means for selecting crucial camera settings in a deft manner. A built-in pop-up flash, featuring a guide number of 19.7' at ISO 100, is available for working in difficult lighting conditions and a Multi Interface Shoe is also available for attaching additional on-camera accessories, such as flashes, video lights, and microphones.
Built-In Wi-Fi Connectivity
Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity enables the a6000 to instantly share imagery to mobile devices for direct sharing online to social networking, via email, and to cloud storage sites. NFC (Near Field Communication) is also supported, which allows for one-touch connection between the camera and compatible mobile devices; no complex set-up is required. Once connected, the linked mobile device can also display a live view image on its screen and remotely control the camera's shutter.

Additionally, PlayMemories Camera Apps are also supported via the built-in Wi-Fi connection, and allow you to personalize the camera's features depending on specific shooting styles. Apps are available to suit creating portraits, detailed close-ups, sports, time lapse, motion shot, and other specific types of imagery.

Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Retractable Zoom Lens
The included silver 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Retractable Zoom Lens provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 24-75mm, covering wide-angle to portrait-length perspectives to suit working in a wide variety of situations. It features Optical SteadyShot image stabilization to help minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to four shutter speed steps to greatly benefit working in low-light conditions and with greater zoom magnifications. One extra-low dispersion element and four aspherical elements are integrated into the optical construction to help reduce chromatic aberrations as well as increase clarity, sharpness, and contrast and the Power Zoom electronically-driven zoom mechanism brings greater efficiency to controlling the zoom position of the lens.

There are many things about this camera that caused gut wrenching disappointment in me when I first started taking pictures with it. I am writing this review to let you know it is a GREAT CAMERA, once you get past the handicap. The handicap – Sony software engineers have loaded it with picture fiddling software, that causes unfortunate outcomes like fine mud smear background effect, lack of precision in pictures and unreal colour. If you are experiencing difficulty loving your new a6000, stop using the auto and auto plus settings. Put it on P, and go through all the menus and turn off any Sony ingenuity you don't actively and knowingly want. After I did that I got STUNNING PICTURES, and could see the value in the extra megapixels. The camera itself is a great camera. Even the heavily compromised design of the kit 16-50mm lens can give excellent pictures.Don't give up, and you will love the pictures you get.Other thoughts – it isn't physically small, like youtube reviews had me thinking. Its eye viewfinder is good enough quality to be enjoyable to use. Lens adapters fitted well, and I have used three manual film camera lenses on it with good results – a Nikon 50mm prime, a Sigma PK mount zoom, and a Canon zoom/ macro. Battery life: turn the LCD onto bright sunlight mode all the time, and buy a spare battery – what good is specified battery life if it is measured with the camera in an unusable state?I hope you buy one and get as much fun out of it as I am getting out of mine.

I love the size and the quality photos of this camera. Along these lines it was exactly what I was looking for. I would like to see a better lens selection, which seems to be one of the issues with Sony. The other issue is the software apps which are tedious and sometimes difficult to set up. For instance, in order to upgrade one app on the camera, I am being required to upgrade the firmware, but unfortunately it is not compatible with my latest version of Mac OS and I don't seem to have an alternative. So, I'm stuck not being able to use this smart remote control any longer. It's very frustrating and the user experience is very poor figuring out the software situation. Sony should stick to cameras, get some help with lenses and avoid software completely --- IMHO.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 16-50mm Lens (Black):

I wanted a light, small backup camera for my heavy full-frame DSLR. After doing extensive research I decided to get the Alpha A6000. For the price, I can't imagine a better camera. It suits my needs perfectly for street photography, portraits, and travel. The video capability is exceptional for a still camera—of course, I would have expected that from Sony, with their years of building high-quality camcorders. The audio quality for videotaping exceeded my expectations, for such a small camera. I had thought that I would probably have to buy an external microphone, but for most of my needs, the camera's microphone is adequate. It's just a great, fun, and exciting camera. I carry it everywhere I go.

I sold my canon g12 (my 3rd of the g series) and bought this camera. The image quality, speed, and ease of menus makes it a much better carry around camera. I carry it everywhere! I also love the wifi capabilities.

While I have only had it for a couple of weeks, I love it. 11 pictures a second, makes catching those special moments in sports easy. One button video at the tip of your fingers. Enough resolution for large prints. As a long term Canon owner, I am still adjusting to some control differences. tg I s light enough to have at hand at all times. I recommend it to all serious photographers.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 16-50mm Lens (Black):

I have been a Nikon guy for 30 years. I have a ton of lenses and my current favorite Nikon SLR is the D7100. (I prefer the DX format to the FX format for a number of reasons). It's a great still camera, but shoots absolutely terrible video. Sony on the other hand is known for making amazing video cameras, but has struggled to gain market share in the stills world. My wife got an a5000 and I was incredibly impressed with it, but it lacks manual controls--too many menus required to get into the settings. I decided to buy this camera as something more portable than an SLR but with much higher quality images than a typical fixed-lens point/shoot. This camera is amazing. The video looks like the video from an FS100. The stills are as good as the ones from my Nikon D7100. The autofocus is as fast as any DSLR. It can do ANYTHING a DSLR can do, and a few things they can't. This may be the future of cameras. A DSLR is starting to look like something I don't really need anymore. My only complaint is that the battery is pretty small and the battery life could be better. So buy a couple. It has enough manual controls and assignable buttons that you can set it up to be able to change settings/focus/mode/etc in just a few actions and once you get it set up, the darned thing is absolutely fantastic to use. The kit lens is sharp and has optical stabilization built in which works in both stills and video mode! Crazy cool. Honestly, I haven't been so amazed by a camera in a long time. For the money? Best camera I have ever owned. Buy a battery charger with the camera....Sony is too cheap to include one with the camera and expects you to charge it through a USB cable. Lame Sony!

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 16-50mm Lens (Black):

I own a Nikon d7000 and a D5100 which are both wonderful cameras. I have taken 10s of thousands of pictures with both and I am mostly satisfied with my user experience. My only two issues are that I often don't have either with me for a great photo opportunity because of size and focusing accuracy with my f1.8 primes are sometimes out.

So I decided to try the mirror-less world. I debated between the Olympus OM-10, Panasonic GX7 and the Sony A6000. I couldn't pass up the recent deals on the A6000 along with the 50mm f.18 OSS. Too good to be true. I also got the sigma 19 and 30mm f 2.8. M43rd primes are reputed to be great but just above my budget.

So what is my verdict? After one week of use, I love the a6000. The ability to see what you are getting, before you shoot is wonderful to the dslr user. The focus seems more reliable than my My Nikons. I haven't missed a shot with the 50mm f1.8 wide open as yet! It is small fast and image quality is as good if not slightly better than the Nikons.

I also got a dumb adapter for my Nikon lenses and I am finally able to accurate focus the lens because of focus peaking and image magnification. It really works well for me. The A6000 is also easy to carry around.

Does it replace my Nikon? Not yet. Battery life can't compare, I have big investment in Nikon mount glass and three flashes which works best on Nikon equipment. But who knows. In time I may switch completely to mirror-less.

If you have a Sony Camera, you will love this one it does everything. If you are undecided, watch Gary Fong's video a6000 on B & H. If you have owned any kind of Sony product you know it does not come with a manual, there is a .pdf manual at the support site.

More than a point and shoot, this is a real high performance camera. Great image quality, tons of features. I use this for family get togethers and other informal gatherings.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 16-50mm Lens (Black):

This camera is everything I hoped for. I use Canon cameras and lenses for work, but I wanted something personally with just as much capability, but wasn't nearly as big. This is perfect. I recommend getting the a6000 with the kit lens, and also looking at getting a few other lenses that suit your needs. If you're looking for a great camera at half the cost of a bigger DSLR, you found it. I've seen complaints about the battery only shooting about 400 photos - my battery has shot around 1000 before it died. So, not sure what that's about!

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 16-50mm Lens (Black):

While I enjoy the form factor and the feature set, I would only trust it to take pictures of indoor pets. Every time I take it to the river to take pictures of the sunset the LCD screen blanks out when the camera is turned sideways, aka portrait orientation. Right before the screen blanks out there's lines that run through the screen reminiscent of a TV losing reception. Even when I turn off the EVF and have the LCD on 100% of the time it still goes blank in portrait mode when used outside.Occasionally the unit will lock up and a message will display prompting to turn off and then back on to reset the camera. Turning the camera off does nothing and the message stays on the screen. When this happens I have to take the battery out to unfreeze the camera. It appears that it is overheating, however, the outside temperature was only in the 70's here in Florida this time of year.I thought about purchasing a fixed prime lens to see how good the picture quality can be over just the kit lens. I tried the Sony 35 and 50 at a local store and snapped away using the automatic and the aperture priority modes. When I got home and looked at the pictures it seemed that focus was slightly off, except on one photo with someone posing, perfectly still, 5 feet away.I called Sony support and explained what has been happening when I take the camera outside, near the river. They said light can reflect up off the water and bounce around inside the camera, causing problems. Apparently the sensor can be confused by this light and it either shuts down or if the light is coming in a portrait orientation the LCD will shut off. Hopefully I can find a buyer for this camera, I'll have a caveat that it can't be used outside near bodies of water or turned in a portrait orientation. The reason I bought this camera is because of the positive reviews, I'm not sure where to turn other than to sell it.

The a6000 is a great fairly compact camera that gives you great quality photos. The focus is good, but it does hunt focus some in low light. The kit lens is pretty good as well and helps keep the camera light and compact. I look forward to using the camera more over the holidays.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 16-50mm Lens (Black):

The quality of the photos and the array of options rivals the big cameras that are much more expensive. Plus, it is light and easy to carry on long hikes, and it is far less intrusive when one is shooting in the city.I would have like to have seen it constructed with a bit more metal and more weather proofing. It is a pleasure through and through.

I carry this as a back-up/second camera. Snapped pictures I would have lost due to changing lens on primary camera. Access to instructions/manuals is torturous. Finally downloaded a manual from a U.K. website. Learning functions/buttons, etc., requires clicking through multiple tabs in camera. Takes some getting used to after knowing my D7100 "by heart".

Sold my Nikon D7100 after a bought this Sony a6000. The fast focus and 8 frames per sec. are great for the sports photography I do. The low light performance is exceptional. For the quality of the photos and the amount of settings this camera should be twice the price. Takes some getting used to the small size and weight when coming from a big DSLR but you learn to love it after carrying it around on an all day shoot.
