I no of nothing to compare

Comments about WD TV Media Player:

This little box is the best access to My AVI files with nothing more than a remote for playback is better then the quality of playback that I received from my laptop plugged into the TV via HDMI cable connect.
I now own 2 of the WD media players the best video playback I know.
As for the wifi connect I have no opinion since I have not used it.
If there is something better out there I have yet to find it.

Great Product if you know what you're getting. It plays and organizes all of your home media which is great if you have tons of files. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it doesn't have netflix. Otherwise it is prefect. Forget those who gave it a poor rating. I wasn't looking for a Roku box.

I have a poor internet connection where I live. Streaming movies over the internet is not an option. This is the solution for me. I have a lot of movies on my computer I put them on the hard drive that I purchased with this player. It plays everything perfectly. Every audio and video codec that I have it plays it. I bought this for my master bedroom and I'm going to buy another for my living room. Added bonus I can drag files from my computer over my wireless LAN directly to the hard drive that is connected to this player. It shows up as a network drive it the player auto sorts and detects whatever I drag and drop to it. Simply amazing.

I purchased this unit to play video from a USB drive with Mp4 content and it did that a couple of times without any problems. Then the audio started "stuttering" and nothing that I've tried (firmware upgrade, different formats, etc.) have resolved the problem. Online forums reveal the same problem as well as other difficulties with this player.
I have thrown the unit in the trash (where it belongs) and now play my USB Mp4 files from my Bluray DVD player.

This is head and shoulders the best media player on the market currently. It will consume most data types from computer files along with all the data on the web. If you have a lot of media on your computer, along with accessing web content, this is the media player for you.

I thought the interface was easy to operate and nice visually. There were some issues with the player reading and playing movies from my external hard drive. It seems as if there wasn't enough processing speed or something lacking when the player was trying to recognize all the movies on my hard drive as well as playing them. I am not a big tech guy so it could've just been the speed of my external hard drive not being fast enough but there were definitely some lag issues. Other than that all of the internet apps worked perfectly and the setup was easy.

The only complaint I have is that it turns off the audio at random times through the optical output which sends a signal to turn off my home theater reciever while playing a movie file. It seems to be completely random. Otherwise a very simple to use great product.

I purchased this unit thinking that I could play back my movies from a Mac "Journaled" USB flash drive. This is not the case. It only recognizes the FAT format available in Mac's Disc Utility which supports only about 4GBs. Hardly enough capacity for a 25GB HD movie.
