Comments about OWC / Other World Computing ThunderBay IV 4-Bay Thunderbolt Enclosure (Diskless):

I bought this enclosure and paired it with 4x 4tb HGST NAS drives and set it up as a RAID 1+0 with Disk Utility. So far its been performing great, easily one of the most reasonable thunderbolt enclosures out there. With RAID 10 setup I am getting around 330MB Read and Write. I would HIGHLY recommend this to any one looking for a thunderbolt enclosure. My total setup ran about $ for everything,$ for the enclosure, and $ for the 4 HGST Drives (found on sale for $ each). So for around $ I was able to get 8TB of usable space with fast read and write speeds of 330MB/sec all while maintaining good redundancy.

Comments about OWC / Other World Computing ThunderBay IV 4-Bay Thunderbolt Enclosure (Diskless):

Using this system is very fast and reliable. I configured mine with four 6TB drives from Seagate to form a 24TB Raid 0 volume. I have other drives that I use for backup & redundancy, so I only wanted the Thunderbay to be fast and large. Highly recommended.

This is the best per terabyte enclosure out there, but get the thunderbolt 2 version instead if this one.

Comments about OWC / Other World Computing ThunderBay IV 4-Bay Thunderbolt Enclosure (Diskless):

good price, very fast, comes with thunderbolt cable and mounting screws for the HD's

really fast, no need for Thunderbolt 2 even set up as RAID 0 with 4 WD black drives its not even close to saturating the Thunderbolt connection (if you are going to be running a 4k screen you need to look into Thunderbolt 2)

I have 2 of these and for video editing (the media) I have it set to RAID 0 plenty fast... so fast I can just use WD RED drives for half the cost of the BLACK versions

Very quite even with the strong fans always running

Wish they came with RAID 5 software

See image of the speed test, thats running 4 of the slower WD RED drives on a late 2013 iMac with 4TB out of 12TB used

Comments about OWC / Other World Computing ThunderBay IV 4-Bay Thunderbolt Enclosure (Diskless):

Works really well for the movie I'm working on. I already have everything backed up in another location and I just need something that will let me access all of my footage using the least amount of devices. It's nice to have something that can hold 16TB of space... I'm glad I got this over a drobo since I don't need an auto backup solution.

I haven't been using it in any sort of RAID setup I've just used it to connect multiple individual drives.

It's not the quickest enclosure to be swapping drives in and out of all the time but it's well worth it to be able to access 4 hard drives from one device.

Obviously it takes up some desk space since it's big enough to fit 4 drives

Haven't had it long but so far nothing to complain about.
