The 6TB G-RAID Studio Storage System with Thunderbolt 2 from G-Technology is designed for more advanced applications, like storing or saving 2K and 4K compressed video, as well as more basic storage. The G-RAID Studio has two removable enterprise drives that can be configured with multiple RAID options that also supports Thunderbolt 2.

The G-RAID Studio comes with two enterprise drives running at 7200RPM preconfigured in RAID 0 for transfer rates up to 330 MB/s which makes this suitable for many purposes such as backing up family photos and video, professional digital content use and more. Also included are all necessary accessories to get the G-RAID Studio running, such as power cable and Thunderbolt 2 cable.

Dual Thunderbolt 2 Ports
Thunderbolt 2 offers a single 20Gb/s bi-directional channel that allows you to stream and write 4K video at the same time. Also daisy chain up to six Thunderbolt devices at the same time
Hardware RAID Options
Preconfigured in RAID 0 but also supports RAID 1 or JBOD. RAID 0 shares data between two drives giving you the best performance. RAID 1 stores identical data onto both drives to preserve data if one drive fails but reduces the total storage capacity and speed by half. Lastly JBOD creates one logical drive so instead of seeing two drive letters you will see one.
Capacity 6 TB
Disk 2 x 3TB 7200 rpm enterprise-class hard drives
Transfer Rate 330 MB/s (in RAID 0)

RAID Configuration Preconfigured in RAID 0 (Configurable in RAID 1, and JBOD)

My apple computer immediate linked this to the desktop and I had fast transfers. Also my workflow had no lags and I still have plenty of space for more projects. Overall this was a great buy.

Comments about G-Technology 6TB G-RAID Studio External Storage System with Thunderbolt 2:

No complaints. Set up in RAID 1 this drive is pretty fast with Thunderbolt out of my iMac. I have not seen the degradation in speed or the audible complaints I have seen in others reviews. For a dual disk enclosure this is relatively quiet. Uploading to the drive from CF card is quick and directly editing from the drive is nearly as fast as a local file. My only complaint is the G-RAID software... not much control or ability to confirm redundancy.
My workflow is... Developing 77MB RAWs in Capture One and retouching 120-200MB TIFs in Photoshop. This drive handles it... Speed tested at a consistent 145-155 MB/s read / write speeds.
        Overall happy with this drive.

Comments about G-Technology 6TB G-RAID Studio External Storage System with Thunderbolt 2:

I have this set as it comes configured as a raid 0 and partitioned into two volumes. one as Archive storage and the other as a time machine backup. The time machine is on the front volume and give me read/write speeds of 297 and 281, the back volume has speed of 248 and 248 respectively. Fan noise is still more than I would like but it is temperature controlled and is very quiet until it is in heavy use. The drives themselves make more noise than normal for a two drive system but not terrible. I was swayed to this unit because of the stated enterprise class drives it uses. It should be more robust and long-lived.

I use this product to back up my photos. Connected to my Mac Book Pro, it works just like the internal hard drive. I am using this in Raid 1 mode.Took a little bit to figure out how to reconfigure for Raid 1, but I guess I should have read the instructions more carefully

Comments about G-Technology 6TB G-RAID Studio External Storage System with Thunderbolt 2:

This drive helped solve many hours of render time. It is three times as fast as any RAID I've set up, even when I pile two or three effects onto a clip. I read some reviews complaining about noise but I find there is little noise so I can sit it in the open. It looks pretty good sitting on my station. I think this new G-Raid has given me a lot more confidence editorially so it's a winner as far as I'm concerned.

Comments about G-Technology 6TB G-RAID Studio External Storage System with Thunderbolt 2:

It was a very simple plug in and use process to get started. And it just COOKS with speed. I dumped 480GB of RAW 4K from this feature film I'm shooting and it took just over 30min. It was a huge upgrade from the DIT's USB drive which took over 4 hours to dump 480GB the day before. Also editing from it is just an absolute breeze. Also I love that I got the two 3TB internals with this one, giving me 6TB of Raid0 (which I use because I duplicate on a separate HD) and I can REPLACE the two 3TB drives with two 6TB drives when they're full... and that will give me a 12TB RAID0. This is very exciting. IT is well worth the $ for the original purchase as you will save money in the future with the internal drive replacements. The exterior is made of plastic, so I kept the box and packaging it came in to move it from studio to location.

Comments about G-Technology 6TB G-RAID Studio External Storage System with Thunderbolt 2:

I purchased and use this device in my 4K Video Production Workflow. This product does a great job during the video editing but the claim of not dropping any frames is not exactly accurate. So yes, frames are dropped during playback in FinalCut X during the editing process. You can avoid dropping frames by stoping the background render option if you are using this same drive to host your project. If nothing is being rendered then no frames are dropped. One other note, the up to 360MB/s spec - I have not been able to reach those speeds with my new Mac Pro 6 Core purchased in Feb 2014. The unit is louder than what I like, so rather than sitting it on my desk, I moved it to the floor. This required a longer Thunderbolt cable. All in all, I am happy with the performance of the unit now that I have a better understanding as to how to use it and how it fits into my video editing workflow. Also the fact that it is not an expensive solution makes it that much more attractive.
