Questions? Ask our experts:

The Sprint 150 Aluminum Tripod with SBH-150DQ Ball Head from Slik is a camera support that can hold up to 4.6 lb and weighs just 2.3 lb. It extends from 7.4" to 64.3", and folds down to 19.9" for transport.

The tripod's four-section legs are individually adjustable and are secured by flip locks. Each leg has a foam grip for added comfort, and rubber feet for gripping slippery surfaces. A split center column allows the tripod to reach its minimum height of 7.4" with the legs spread to their widest position.

The ball head has a single lock to control the movement of the ball and the panning movement. It has a 3/8"-16 female threaded mount on the bottom, with a 1/4"-20 bushing adapter. The ball head includes a quick-release plate with a 1/4"-20 male threaded screw for attaching it to your camera. Also included is a carrying case to protect your tripod during travel.

I have larger tripods, but it's hard on my back to carry alot of weight in gear. So I got this Slik Sprint 150. It's small and light weight. But the rule is to have a stable and strong tripod, and this is far from it. I sure wouldn't use it with a super telephoto wildlife lens. But there are some tricks you can employ to increase stability. Don't extend the center column. In fact, I removed the bottom part of the center column and leave it at home. And don't extend the smallest sections of the legs-they're very thin. Yes this will put you on your knees but if you need to carry a super light tripod and you want sharp pictures this can work for you.

One good feature over those super light super cheap tripods is the legs spread wide so you can get low.

On mine I mounted a Really Right Stuff clamp to the quick release plate so I can mount any of my Arca Swiss dovetail style plates.

The ball head is pretty secure when locked down, but there's no minimum tension adjustment. So be careful because when it's loose the camera will flop around and hit the tripod legs.

I bought this tripod to shoot small products with a 100mm macro lens, using focus stacking software. I went with a less expensive, small and light weight tripod because I won't be carting it around, and I need to store all of my equipment in a small space. I read good reviews of this tripod on several photo sites.

I was very disappointed! This tri-pod had a ball head that works fairly well, but the problem is in the connection between the ball head and the rest of the tripod. First, the connector can rotate 360 degrees, but there is no way to lock it down. Second, there is so much wiggle room in the connector that when you adjust the ball head to the right position then let go, it moves a significant amount. You then have to reframe the subject several times to try and compensate for this. If you are planning on taking pictures by pressing the shutter button, your camera is going to wiggle or rotate on this tripod. It kind of defeats the entire purpose of a tripod if you can't make precise adjustments to the camera and lock it down or if any part of the tripod is so unstable.

I bought this tripod for my son and it's of much better quality than I expected. It is sturdy when fully extended and I love all of it's features. Compares well to alternatives costing $ more. Best all-around tripod for non-pro.

Comments about Slik Sprint 150 Aluminum Tripod with SBH-150DQ Ball Head:

I was looking for an affordable tripod I could use on my journeys. I mainly walk by feet and need a light tripod. The Sprint 150 was a very good choice. Inside the bag it is not too bulky, and unfolded it provides me with a very good solution on every ground. I have shot several great pictures of New York. The photo position is easily adjustable and the two spirit levels definitively help. Altough it is a little bit too light if the wind is blowing heavily, but this does not come at a surprise, I wanted a light tripod. So be careful.

If you're looking for a cheap alternative to an expensive carbon fiber tripod - I'd look to this one. It's not the smallest and it doesn't carry the heaviest camera gear but for 95% of us this one will work great.

I have only used the Sprint 150 tripod a few times since I purchased it--but it has made my life several pounds lighter. I've used it for architectural photography in good weather and it held up just fine and did the job! I'm not sure how it would fair in windy conditions as it's as light as a feather, but I'm sure I will find out soon enough. It's incredibly easy to set-up and moves quickly with me on jobs that have a time constraint. I also am looking forward to using it for nature work as it's a joy to carry around.

This is lightweight to carry. I use it for my Zoom H4N recorder.

At this time, I doen't have anything to say negatively for what I am using it for.

Bought for travel. Nice and light weight. Fit in the suitcase and takes up little room. Sturdy. when the legs are all the way out the smallest sections are a little thin.

I will use this tripod with a Nikon D5200 and the 18-250mm lens from Sigma plus other lenses from the Nikon stable. This tripod folds into a compact package, comes with a carrying bag and has a quick release ball head feature that makes setup painless. Plans are to use this equipment on an upcoming camping trip where many photos will be taken landscapes and waterfalls. The tripod is disable and an excellent but for the money.

Comments about Slik Sprint 150 Aluminum Tripod with SBH-150DQ Ball Head:

I bought this because it was a Slik. The Slick I bought in 1974 works as good as it did the day I bought it. I expect the same reliability from this one. I was looking for a lighter tripod when I was in the field. I like a tripod that is tall enough for me to see easily through the camera viewfinder. This tripod is lightweight and stands tall enough to meet my needs. It also folds down to a size that easily straps to my backpack camera bag. It would also fit easily into my luggage when I travel. The down side is it is a light weight tripod. It is not quite as solid as my other Slik. I would not buy this as my prime tripod, but it is a good travel tripod. I am used to a pan/tilt head and using the ball head took a little practice.

I bought this to replace a couple cheaper tripods that were wearing out. I haven't had it for very long but so far I am VERY pleased with it. This is not a heavy duty tripod but it is not cheap and flimsy either. It is exactly as advertised and you can't beat the price.

After lugging around a monster tripod in the field for macro work, I'm looking forward to trying this little tripod out. The ball head seems strong enough and does comfortably support a D300 with a 200mm macro lens. BTW, although not mentioned in the product description, additional quick release plates are the same as those used for the DQ-20 quick release adapter. The case isn't extraordinary, but I'm able to fit both the tripod and a monopod in it.
