The Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens is a wide-angle zoom lens designed specifically for EOS APS-C DSLRs, where it provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 16-28.8mm. The optical design incorporates one aspherical element, one UD (Ultra-low dispersion) element, and one large-diameter element to minimize chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range and contribute to notable image sharpness and clarity. Enhanced lens coatings have also been applied to lens elements to minimize lens flare and ghosting for maintained image contrast and color neutrality.

Benefitting working in difficult lighting conditions, an Optical Image Stabilizer has been integrated into the lens design to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to an effective four shutter speed steps. Pairing well with Canon's EOS Movie Servo AF, an STM stepping AF motor produces smooth, near-silent focusing performance that is further benefitted by a rear-focus design, high-speed CPU, and intelligent AF algorithms for quickened focusing. Full-time manual focus override can also be utilized for fine-tuned focusing precision as closely as 8.7".

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens:

I could not afford previous versions of very wide angle zooms, so the price itself is an enabler. It is so light, that I find it convenient to take everywhere even if I don't plan on using it. Compared to my ef-s 17-55 f2.8, it weighs close to nothing!

The creative options that a 10mm focal point allows is eye opening. The small focal length & the resulting short hyperfocal lengt allows some beautiful close/far compositions.

The pictures are sharp across the frame. The manual focus ring is smooth, but has no tactile feedback. It only works when the shutter is half pressed.

I wish it had a distance scale on it. If there are any distortions - LR5's RAW processor with the lens profile seems to handle them pretty well.

it is absolutely a great lens

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens:

the Canon 10 to 18 is amazingly wide lens and although the aperture is pretty small the Image Stabilizer helps to get long exposurea nd great images.
there is a little bit of dark corners on the corners of the images but when you stop down the lens aperture it's okay. I think it's a good lens.

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens:

This lens has sharper corners than the 10-22, and sharper in the middle. Also better than a 17-40L on a 5D II. The only problem is that Canon has not released lens correction data. Chromic aberration is noticeable and not just in the corners, throughout the frame, but that is looking at 100%. I shoot at f8 so falloff is not a problem. There is distortion at the wide end which can be a problem in some shots. Eventually Canon will ad this to their corrections list so we must wait for that.

I haven't had this lense very long but I'm really enjoying the unique perspective of the 10mm ultra wide angle. The limited aperture has not been a problem, partly because of the image stabilization feature. I'll be going on a cruise next month and am looking forward to getting some wide angle shots on the ship. The lense is light, sharp and priced right.

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens:

I'm almost embarrassed to say I love this lens; it's plastic, it's an EF-S mount (crop, APS-C sensors only), it looks and feels a lot like a kit lens. I'm a pro... I shouldn't like this lens... should I?Strapped onto an APS-C body, this lens translates into 16mm-29mm, with the 1.6x magification factor. For me, that's about perfect - great for scenery, architecture, and similiar usage. The auto focus motor (STM) is incredibly quiet and fast. Like, really. You can't hear it and I haven't noticed any "hunt" when focusing with the lens. The first time I used the lens, I thought it was broken because I couldn't see or hear anything happening while focusing. I had to take 2-3 pictures and then look at the results to realize it was working perfectly. The image stabilization is also excellent - the minor vibration you typically experience with IS lenses isn't present from my observations. The IS is very helpful for taking longer exposures without a tripod - I was able to get very usable shots at 1/8 of a second, hand-held. The aperture is admittedly "slow" - producing blurry shots in low-light if the subject is moving. Stationary objects will of course look good, but the blur is caused by long exposures - not by the lens itself. To me, this is a mute point. Who buys an ultra-wide lens to take portraits? I bought this to take photos while (primarily) mounted to my tripod. In that case, the lens is a stellar performer. Sharpness is great; a bit softer at the edges - which is to be expected - but still very acceptable even by L-glass standards, let alone $ plastic standards. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the price and performance of this lens. It's an incredible performer at a budget price.

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens:

First, let me thank B+H Photo for shipping this in just 3 days using on-line order. And with duties and shipping, it was still less expensive than the quotes from Montreal area dealers. The lens build looks like the standard kit lens, but somehow has a better feel and finish. At F4.5-5.6 its not the brightest bulb on the tree but its the only IS lens available at this or any price in an ultra wide. Not exactly the sharpest lens I have, but a rectilinear field of view around 107 degrees with huge DOF at say F8-11 make up for sharpness and the visual excitement of seeing your toes and the skyline at the same time more than makes up for a minor deficit. Very happy I have this lens but cannot believe how miserly Canon is for not including a tulip shade in the price...

I've had my nose pressed to the glass for an ultra-wide but not fish-eye lens for my APS-C Canon for years, but the price of the EF-S 10-22, which was around $ for years and slowly fell to $, was always hard to justify for the limited need I had for it. When this lens came out for $, I waited for the reviews, which were uniformly positive, and got it in time for a vacation in the mountains. It's a good lens, but unless you're hiking off the main "scenic vistas" and going into areas free of benches, signs, etc., it's hard to put it to use.It may come in more useful in taking group shots where I can't back up far enough.

Canon did good wnen they added this lense to the stm lenses available for my Canon Rebel T5i camera; Now I have 3 lenses for the camera that easily cover 90 % or more of what I want a camera for; Be it traveling extensively , shows or taking photos at special events .

I've only had this lens a couple of weeks, but so far I've really enjoyed it. I use it with my Canon T5i and it works great! I'm excited to use it in the future on trips to Colorado and Arizona to get some great landscape shots.

Comments about Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens:

I am thoroughly impressed with the lens after using it just twice since receiving it. Though it is made entirely of high quality plastic, even the lens mount, Canon didn't skimp on the glass. The other thing I can say without hesitation about this lens is that since it is made of high quality plastic, it is extremely light. After using the 24-70mm L lens for several years, using this new lens is a breeze. And the focal length is amazing. The price of this lens $ blew me away. For that inexpensive price you wouldn't expect to get L quality photos. That's exactly what I saw after I processed the photos. Because, the lens is plastic, Canon was able to invest more resources into the glass and in my opinion it has paid off. This is an EFS lens which means it will only fit cameras with an Canon APS-C sensor. If you have one of these cameras, I can unhesitatingly tell you you will NOT be unhappy with this purchase. The one area where this lens is lacking is low light shooting. The camera has a challenge focusing at sunset. I went out to West Wharf in Madison, Connecticut on August 6 and handheld the camera. It was the first time I was out at sunset with the lens. This is not a lens to shoot sunsets. As long as I get to sunset an hour before I should be okay. It's only after sunset that the lens runs into the wall. I love this lens even with this limitation. And I think you will too.
