Comments about Little Brown Book: Ansel Adams Guide - Basic Techniques of Photography:
Okay $40 is expensive but this book is worth it. It seems dedicated to film photography but the beauty behind this tome is the theory of light. The principles explained by the Ansel crew are universal to film or digital, B&W or Color. Most basic photography books tell you how to set up a picture; this book explains WHY (much more important and open ended for learning). There are many great images in the book and the author explains how they were captured; he also points out why my pictures don't look like Ansels..... Everytime I pick up this book and read a section I find myself saying this is a really good book. I never would have picked it up if the staff at B&H hadn't recommended it. They really seem to know their stuff.
